CHAPTER 9: The Feud At Trocadero

-You are you.

- And that's the part that I hate of most.

When Nathanael woke up from his slumber, he immediately felt a sensation of pain panging on the upper parts of his head. He sat from his bed and wasn't at all disturbed to find all his belongings spiralling, instead he only expressed even more annoyance at the sight that was surrounding him. With a sigh the redhead grabbed the alarm clock that had conveniently hovered above him. He checked the time and his eyebrows raised when he saw to where the hands were pointing at.

Well that's a first.

Indeed, for the first time since he could remember, the young teenaged artist had finally beaten the intended time for his alarm clock to wake him up, since usually the scenario goes by him jolting up from the abrupt sounds of annoying ringing bells at best, or at worst somehow falling off of bed or chair, depending on where he had fallen asleep. In all fairness though he didn't question on the nature of how he woken up just now, considering on the fact that he didn't get much rest from it due to the events of yesterday.

*Set*

*RING!*

Only now did the little time measuring contraption device started doing its work as Nathanael looked at it, appearing nonchalant.

From his hand he switched the machine off before throwing it, only for it to float and join its fellow objects in creating a collective chaos inside the boy's bedroom.

Suddenly a knock came from his door as a nervous voice was heard.

Toma- I mean, Nathanael. Are you awake yet? If- If you are, then can you please get dressed? Breakfast is ready.

A small second of silence followed before another voice continued.

We made your favorites! *pause* Please Nathan? We all really need to talk.

What else is there to talk about?, he grumbled mentally.

He then obliged to his mothers' request as he got to his feet and stood up. Then he headed towards the exit, not even bothering or caring about what was happening to his own room anymore.

From a different part of the city somewhere, a dark haired girl with violet streaks on them, walked anxiously as she made steps through the main deck. Her body posture was obviously feeling uneasy while a mass of churning nervousness was literally torturing her through her insides.

Now that the night was done, came the dawn of a new day, and along with it an explanation to tell her family.

She dreaded that.

When she first woke up from bed this morning, one of the first thoughts that came into mind centered around the unusual nightmare she had while asleep, but when she carelessly wandered through some of her valuables, and saw the sight of a small green skinned humanoid figure with insect-like wings, sleeping soundly on top of her make-up kit with flowery designs on it, she immediately realized that all those strange happenings, from metamorphosing into a mouse, to getting chased around Paris by a bunch of sentient shadows with red eyes, to nearly almost loosing her own life, had all been more than just simply the random jumbles of her own subconscious.

Juleka released a breath after meditating on that.

*Sigh*

She placed two of her fingers on both of her shutting eyelids in order to massage them due to stress.

When she finally calmed down from the thought of death, the girl had then returned into focusing on her previous ponderings.

What am I going to tell them?, she muttered worriedly.

With one final sigh Juleka proceeded to head to her destination, at the dinette, hoping her best that her family would believe whatever she had to say.

Her legs suddenly weakened when she reached the door that would lead her to the said dinette.

Here goes nothing. I guess., she mumbled with her breath.

When she entered, eyes were immediately shot at her, Juleka jerked back, as attention had never been her strong suit, which was ironic really considering as attention was also what she desired of most.

It was an inescapable loop she would muse, and she would even sometimes miserably snort at herself at how difficult she knew she was. How she would often wish to be basted on the sunlight, like everyone else, only to cower back to the shadows where she had grown to call her safe zone.

There was just something about actually being noticed at times that made her feel extremely uncomfortable. Sometimes there were even those who would say that she was simply overreacting, but to her however, the feeling could easily be described as nothing more but torture. To her, the very idea of letting herself be gazed upon while being stared and judged was also the very equivalent of being pressured to near her hand towards that of a venomous snake.

Frightening and dangerous.

When her family saw her, they quickly set up her plate, cup, and utensils with Luka pulling the chair next to him slightly before patting it, indicating for her to sit down there.

Juleka gulped hard as she nervously walked to them. She then came to her seat and sat down next to her brother.

When her visions turned towards the table, she looked upon the sight of some of her favorites, instant noodles covered in ketchup, frozen garlic topped pizza from House Lavillant, garlic croissant with red strawberry jam feelings, and a hot cup of milk tea. Despite this though she didn't smile, she appreciated their efforts, but she didn't smile, instead the sight had only made her eyes more nervous (along with guilty) than she already was.

Here they were trying their hardest just to make her feel better, and yet here she was not even doing just that.

How she disgusted herself sometimes.

So, um… did ya' had a good rest last night sailor?, her mother asked, a wide smile on her face.

Juleka was playing around her noodles with her fork when she was suddenly taken out of her trance state.

Oh um… yeah. It was good. I guess?, she sputtered.

Anarka merely responded with a nod as she went back to her own breakfast.

An awkward silence filled the air, and all that could be heard were the sounds of their dishes.

Not a moment too long though the middle-aged woman took in a deep breath and spoke once more.

Juleka? Sweety? If there's anything that is bothering ya', ya' know ya' can tell us right?

The aforementioned girl gently placed her fork down when she heard, taking on a small exhale as she put both of her hands down to her thighs.

I'm sorry., she spoke, barely audible but at least enough for both to hear., I'm really, really, really, really, really, really, am sorry. It was- it was never truly my intention to cost so much trouble like that. I just didn't want-

She paused at midsentence.

Just didn't want what?

I just- I just didn't want-

She didn't want to tell them, and even if she did, would they actually believe her? If by any chance that she managed to have decided to tell them the truth, what would she exactly say? That she was suddenly transformed into a mouse? Even if they were to believe her strange tale, what would they see of her after? Would they never look at her the same way ever again? Or worst, would they start viewing her as a freak as well.

That last part kind of scared her.

And so, with another thought she decided to proceed with her original plan, to conceal what really happened and simply create an excuse.

The question was, How?

To lie to her mother was difficult, but not impossible, if she could conjure something as believable as she could then she would be just fine, however it was Luka who was a different story.

For some whatever reason that was a mystery to her, Luka always had a natural affinity to know what others were feeling inside, or what he would personally refer to as "their music".

Whatever on how this "music" actually works she didn't know, or how he actually does it. All she knew and thought of right now was how to convince Luka with her white lie.

But then again, why lie?

An idea popped as the gears inside her mind started turning.

She sighed.

I just didn't want for anyone else to see me.

It wasn't a total lie, in fact it wasn't a lie at all, what she told was the truth, the actual honest truth, via manipulated.

Twisting the truth wasn't the same as lying after all, she would still be concealing the entire details, but her emotions were a bit calmer knowing that she didn't have to make up a story right on the spot.

From Anarka's gaze, she took a short glance towards her brother, appearing to be curious as to what she had meant when she said that.

So far so good.

Another sigh.

Anarka's face looked to be quite confused, not exactly understanding of what her daughter was trying to say.

Why would ya' not want for anyone to see ya'?

The girl gulped.

Here goes.

Because I didn't know on what you might think of me once you did.

Is this- is this about the day before?, asked the woman with glasses.

Juleka winced, recalling of Eris and how she allowed herself to become akumatized. Although she may have no memory as her second super villain form, she did however had already heard quite enough on about how much damage she had inflicted on the city of Paris and everybody just because she failed to watch her own emotions. How it suddenly came into Eris wasn't on how she intended to steer the conversation. However since she was already on the note right now, she might as well use it for her advantage.

By once again "telling the truth'.

I don't want to talk about it.

When not a word was spoken, she knew that she had done it.

But that didn't mean that she felt any lest better.

Oh. Okay then., said her mother as she returned to her noodles. Juleka looked to her disappointed mother and felt guilty afterwards.

Mom., she told., I really am sorry.

Anarka gave her a reassuring smile.

It's alright sailor., she nodded her head as she reached for her daughter's hand., But if you were to ever feel like talking, then know that I'll be here listening.

Juleka returned her smile with her own while nodding her head back.

Also, Juleka., interrupted the blue haired musician., You should know that you're not the only one of us who has given to Hawkmoth's control.

The girl lowered her coppers.

Yeah I know. But Eris is… different.

Can't argue with you there., he admitted., But hey, at least unlike with Reflecta, I didn't had to go walking on heels this time.

I said I was sorry!, Juleka chortled. And after then the entire room started laughing as well.

Her morning may not have started quite great, but right now, at this very moment, Juleka was at peace.

Back inside the apartment building, the redheaded boy sat at his chair with both of his arms folded, all while glaring daggers at the two women who were seated at the other side of the counter.

Their morning meal was already well prepared, with many of his personal favorites being set. But even then though his mood didn't change, not one bit, he was still infuriated, crossed, angered, and hurt. Hurt from the fact his own family had been keeping something important from him within all these years.

As he sat, he remembered of the little talk he had with his mothers when he got home last night.

I-I swear, I-I don't really know what's happening right now., said a panicked Nathanael, who was struggling to make his words coherent while sitting on his bed.

The scene that was surrounding them wasn't doing any lest better as well, as mysterious blue energy had caused his belongings to return in a spiral, while at the same time making the light bulb flicker on and off from the ceiling.

Bu-but I can promise you that-that I-I-m not akumatized or anything, I'm just-I'm just-, he then covered his entire face with both of his hands., I'm not really sure anymore.

It's okay Nathan., Naomi crouched down., Just take in deep breaths and calm down. It will all-

It will all-

It will all-

As she tried to complete her sentence, cluttering noises kept on disturbing her.

The chubby woman drooped her eyes and made a nonchalant face as she released a huff.

She then took out something from her jacket pocket, which to Nathanael's point of view, appeared to be a stick.

Both the redheads became surprised, with Nathanael slightly hitching and Naomi simply widening her eyes. When she turned behind her, she saw her partner Wendy extending her own "stick" while directing to the newly spiraling yellow energy.

What?, she asked confused when she saw the two, along with the feline, staring at her.

Wait, is that-, Nathanael thought to himself.

The woman with the bob cut then waved and directed her "stick" towards various directions with his stuff reacting by following her movements like a conductor to an orchestra.

When every single item fell gently to certain places, Wendy then put her stick down and turned back to them.

-a wand?

Nathan., called the chubby redhaired woman once again, her face expressed worry, as if she was afraid., I know that this may all seem confusing to you. But I promise-

Magic., Nathanael whispered, his face completely blank. This caused shock for both his mothers.

That was magic, wasn't it?, he asked them.

How-how did you know?, Naomi questioned confused.

A dame blanche told me., he answered.

A dame blanche?, came Wendy, positioning lower as well as she inquired that.

A naiad., he clarified., A-a water nymph., he then looked at them., She-she told me about magic, about me being magic.

Nathanael then focused his entire attention to them, eyes appearing to be begging for answers.

How-how long have you been able to do that?

Wendy turned to Naomi who nodded her head as she looked back to Nathanael.

She sighed.

Longer before you were born.

Nathanael slightly gasped.

Why-why did you never told me?

Naomi took in a deep breath before speaking once again.

I think, that it's getting kind of late. You're probably really tired right now.

What?, the boy's eyes widened., No. No.

She's right Tomate., said Wendy as she stood up., Its best to discuss about this for tomorrow. We all need some good rest after today.

What! No! You can't just expect to leave this talk?!

And where not., Naomi assured, placing a hand on his right shoulder., Its just going to have continue for tomorrow when you're ready.

But I'm ready now!

If you ask me, interrupted Shadow., It's not him who has to get ready.

The two gave him a glare, indicating for him to shut it, to which he had simply sighed as he complied.

Nathan, you're exhausted. Just trust me, this is for the best.

Please. Please.

Naomi and Wendy gave him worried looks as they started heading for the exit, followed by the feline.

Goodnight Tomate., said Naomi.

Please. No. Please!

As they were about to close the door, they suddenly found themselves halting at the last question that left his mouth.

Did they know?!

Frozen like statues for simply just a second, they then shifted back to him as they saw his distressed form. Both read his eyes, almost appearing as if he was ready to plead the answer for that one right out of them.

He wanted to know. He simply just wanted to know. Was it really considered a sin to know?

His breathing patterns escalated as he stood up from his bed, his body tensed as his blue orbs focused only on them.

Naomi released an exhale before looking back towards Nathanael until finally closing the door.

The boy stood there, staring at the sight where the two women had left, he felt as if he was staring there for hours, processing everything he had learned thus far, until his teeth clenched in frustration and released a loud yell while he clutched his own messy hair.

Ahhhh!

His cry caused him to unintentionally let out a powerful burst of the blue aura which had made his room to spiral crazily and for the lights to flicker on and off intensely until finally it burned off.

When the room suddenly went dark, all items had instantly fallen down, ranging from his school stuff, to his personal, to his action figures, to his comics, to his drawings, to even his precious art supplies, but he didn't care, instead he continued staring at the door, appearing completely destroyed.

Did they know?

Meanwhile back at the Seine, within a certain house boat, a girl with dark cloths had just returned to her room, getting ready for the day ahead.

Good morning!

The girl gasped as she slightly stumbled back, looking at the familiar green creature who was now hovering in front of her face.

Are you all set and ready?, the being said rather cheerily.

Ready for- ready for what?, Juleka managed to have returned.

The being rolled her eyes.

To help me!, she reminded., We've already discussed about this last night remember? My people are in desperate need!

Oh, that's right., Juleka had now fully recalled.

She drifted her eyes downwards, remembering the talk that she had with the little specimen last evening when she met her. It was already late, and Juleka had just returned home after an extremely odd and crazy day. She recalled flopping to her pillow when all of a sudden the aforementioned being showed up.

She appeared to have had a pleading look, and her breathing patterns were a bit quick. She told the girl that her name was Zelena, and that she was from Trocadero.

Zelena told Juleka that her home, along with her people, were in dire need of assistance, but never truly got in full detail when she started flying, taking one of Juleka's fingers, and begun attempting to pull her (obviously that did not work).

She had only stopped when she saw Juleka making a really tired face, and it was also only then when she let go of the girl's digit before folding her arms and sighed.

Supposed it can wait until tomorrow., said the being reluctantly.

And then that was that, she never really offered Juleka a chance to say yes or no, nor did she ever got into explaining as to why her people were in supposed danger in the first place.

Returning to the present, Juleka looked back towards Zelena as her shoulders dropped and sighed deeply.

I'm sorry., she said monotonously., But I don't think I can help.

Back at the apartment, as the flashback ends, Nathanael gazed and stared deeply at his two mothers who appeared ashamed at themselves while also being still afraid to talk.

Nathanael however was not going to give them the benefit of staying silent however, after all, they've been silent long enough. Now was not the time for silence, now was the time for answers.

He shifted his pupils for a split second and saw Shadow drinking water from his water bowl on the counter appearing (as always) to be minding his own business without a care.

He wondered if he really still was the same cat he had been hearing of talking since recently.

He then returned his view back.

The silence created was awkward at best, until it was finally broken when the woman with the black hair cleared her throat before she started speaking.

So… what do you need to know first?, she said nervously.

What do I want to know first?, he asked in his mind, as if that was truly a question.

He stared at them deeply before opening his mouth.

I already asked last night., the boy told.

He took in a deep breath before asking it.

Did they know?

All then went into silence, with the two women simultaneously feeling as if an ominous cold wind had went through their spines.

Even Shadow had to halt from his drinking when he heard that.

It took a few seconds of heart wrenching silence before both answered.

Yes.

Nathanael already knew the answer though, it was so painfully obvious that it could have been the very air he was breathing or the very light he was seeing. All the signs were already there and it became very clear when his mothers became reluctant to say anything, even going as far as literally becoming shocked once he inquired those words.

He thought he was prepared, but now hearing it made his heart sank.

That "they", "them" knew about magic.

His parents, knew about magic.

He was at a state of frozenness for a while, processing that new found information, all that the women and the cat heard from him were his intense inhales and exhales.

When he finally cleared his mind a little, he looked at them deeply (along with pleadingly) once more.

How?

The couple looked at each other worriedly before nodding at each other and turning back to him.

Nathanael., said the redhead., I'm not really sure on how you would react to this., she gulped before gazing back at him., But… you're a mage.

But why?..., asked the little insectoid as she now stood on top of Juleka's drawers, next to her bed. The girl in question meanwhile was busy packing up her school items into her back pack to even look back at the other, but in reality she simply just didn't want to get involved with another strange and otherworldly situation.

As she packed her books, and pens, and notes, the purple head would eventually have her feelings over ruled by guilt and shame until she sighed and turned to Zelena.

Because I can't., she stated simply, and just like before, barely audibly as well.

- Of course you can.

- You keep saying that.

- Because its true.

- How can it be true., the girl told as she now zipped her bag, her voice lower than ever and her tone more depressed.

Because I saw you.

That had piqued Juleka's attention as she raised one of her eyebrows.

You what?

The creature nodded her head, clearly mistaking Juleka's confusion for a need for more details regarding her glory.

I saw you last night., Zelena explained., At Pont de Mars, beneath the Eiffel Tower. You were awesome!

Juleka stepped back a bit, realizing she was talking about her battle with the hag last night. She wasn't sure whether to feel bashful or nervous about her comment.

You… saw that?

I saw everything!, the being cheered., How you faced off against such a dangerous opponent like Granny Spooks, and how you managed to have triumphed at the end, that was INCREDIBLE! I can't imagine myself doing that same thing you did even in a billion years! And to think that how you achieved something that the warlocks have been doing for months now was nothing short but, WOW! You were absolutely Amazing!

The girl blushed as she was instantly rendered speechless.

And that is why I'm asking you- No. I'm begging you!, she clasped her hands together tightly., To please, Please, help my people at Trocadero.

Yeah about that., Juleka spoke questioningly., I've actually been to Trocadero and its gardens before, and never have I seen a single fairy whenever I'm there.

I-am-not-a fairy!, the creature stomped her foot, she then placed her right hand to her left side chest., I am a sprite. A natural gardener of the woods and forests, and I am certainly nothing like those overly zealous spectres!

Juleka stared at the being wide eyed, managing to blink about two or three times.

O…kay., was all she could respond.

Her face then changed into a serious one, then to a sorrowful one.

But still… that doesn't really change anything. While I am flattered that you would see of me as highly as that, that still doesn't mean that I could do anything to help you. I'm sorry. But I think you'll have more luck if you'll find someone else. Like Ladybug-

But I can't ask Ladybug!, the now known "sprite" exclaimed as she flew to Juleka's bag., Please. You're the only hope we got.

Zelena was persistent, Juleka can give her that, but there was something within those trembling words of hers that just made Juleka sigh.

Perhaps I'll think about it., the girl gave in, to which the creature reacted with another cheer. It wasn't a total promise though, but the part that she at least considered gave Zelena a reason to celebrate. It made her sick inside knowing she might be giving her false hope. How she managed to keep on finding herself to similar situations involving things she didn't even believed in just a few days ago was a complete enigma on its own.

Why me., she muttered to herself.

Will your mage be joining us as well?, the creature suddenly asked to which Juleka had to tilt her head at (a habit she had unintentionally gained during her time yesterday as a mouse).

My… mage?

A mage?

Both women nodded their heads reluctantly.

Once again Nathanael was at stress due to all the information that were crashing before him. He placed his right hand at his temple and tried to massage it so to reduce all the confusion he was having.

His breakfast he barely touched, his favorite cup of coffee, he barely took a sip of. All that was on his mind right now were the revelations regarding himself, the anomalies that were following him, his mother's hidden secrets, and… his parents.

He then took on another deep breath before preparing with another question.

So…, he raised his eyebrow., does that mean that we're all born with…magic?

Yes., they both answered together.

Why would you guys wait so long just to tell me all this?, his eyes had now furrowed and it was clear through his horsed voice that he was trying to contain himself.

The lights then started to slightly flicker a bit and the couple observed as they watched the utensils on the counter starting to shake. They knew of what was causing it, or rather "who" was causing it. They knew since last night that he wasn't going to take all this new found knowledge well, and they couldn't exactly blame him for that. They were aware that he was probably feeling both betrayed and disappointed, and both knew as well that he had all the rights to be.

But even still, their secrets wasn't without reason, and he needed to understand that before it was too late.

We just wanted to keep you safe Tomate., spoke Naomi, her eyes about at the brink of tears (and not at the usual way). The world of enchantments and magics can sometimes prove to become a rather dangerous place., her face expressed a knowing and grieving look., W-we just simply didn't want you to get badly hurt.

BY KEEPING SOMETHING ABOUT MY PARENTS!?, Nathanael had now finally snapped as one of the plates flew to the ceiling and broke. They both had instantly been taken aback while Shadow sprinted and hid under the drawer table where the television sat.

They boy's nostrils were basically flaring with anger, it was clear that the entire house was about to receive a renovation, but all then stopped when he saw of the sight of his mothers feeling guilt.

He then took deep breaths in order to calm himself down.

I'm sorry., he apologized., I didn't mean to lash out like that., he told them.

Well next time-

An irritated voice spoke. Nathanael turned his head to the voice's direction as he saw Shadow getting out of his hiding spot with eyes appearing as if he were about to growl or hiss at him., try to control your anger! Especially right now while you're still settling.

There goes that word again, "settling".

Settling…, his mouth trailed., I've already heard of that from the naiad I've told you about., he halted for a moment to ponder and recall some of what she said., She told that its this stage thing that supposedly appears in a later part of most magical creatures. Where the magic itself is raw and I guess is still just probably beginning to take form.

And that naiad would be correct., Wendy abruptly lectured., Settling is indeed a stage that most individuals belonging into certain species, like ourselves, will have to go through. Me, Naomi, we both already went there, and it wasn't pleasant. Settling is when our internal magic is still inexperience, still new and thus still at its rawest potential. Although its not necessarily painful or anything like that, it could still prove to become quite problematic as during settling, it tends to act out of our own control.

Out of our own control?, Nathanael asked perplexed.

Yes., it was now Naomi's turn to speak., During this time your inherent magic would more likely serve as more of a sort of natural defense mechanism, where it would usually manifest whenever you are feeling threatened. So don't act too surprise if something weird goes on when that happens.

Nathanael thought of that and remembered some of the events that had recently transpired, from the thing with his pencil case, to the rubble that had nearly crashed on him. And just as they told him, those were indeed when he witnessed the anomalies occurring before his eyes.

Are there any other ways for magic to happen while still at…settling?, he questioned out of curiosity.

Well…, Naomi thought before speaking again., there is now that you mentioned. You see, to explain, magic is consciousness sensitive. It reflects with whatever state your consciousness is at.

Including your emotions., sternly told the other., which is also why we are warning you to take a better job into guarding your emotions, that is, if you do truly want to prevent all of yesterday's disasters.

Guarding my emotions., Nathanael silently echoed.

But of course you don't really need to worry all that much., Naomi assured him., Settling is as said only a temporary process. As time goes by your magic would pretty much settle itself, and soon you'll probably no longer start poltegeising at random moments. Till then you can trust that me and Naomi will teach you in all the basics at harnessing your magic that we know of.

Teach-me?, the young teenaged illustrator warily asked.

His body shook a bit once they told him that.

N-no thanks. I'm good., he told them.

But you have to dear., reacted Wendy., Otherwise the settling process would only grow even worst without you properly handling it.

Nathanael stiffened when he heard that claim.

Even worst?

Yes worst. But like I'd told you already, you really have nothing to worry about., came the stout woman., Me and Wendy are here for you. And besides, we'll only be teaching you some of the simpler and easier stuff that you could get by with, particularly protection spells. After then we could all go back in living our usual lives, except of course now you'll have to understand what Shadow is saying from now on.

Yup., the aforementioned feline proudly exclaimed., And since we're of the topic I would like for you to listen on some list of complains that I've already prepared., the cat faced the boy., number 1-

There isn't going to be some kind of wizard school, is there?, Nathanael inquired all of a sudden.

The two women flinched and froze.

U-unless you want to., answered Naomi with worry., Do you want to?

The boy shook his head, making the two sigh in relief.

Oh thank goodness., the red haired woman lowly whispered with she and Wendy both holding an arm to their respective hearts.

Meanwhile Nathanael simply looked at them with complete bafflement, although he might have an idea as of why considering their character. Wizard or rather magic schools in general do indeed tend to get portrayed as boarding schools as well in works of fiction, at least in all the movies he watched and comics he read. So by applying the possibility of that logic, along with knowing them, they were probably just worried that he would be leaving them, so he simply just shrugged the thought off.

A part of him was glad that the tension between him and them dissipated so easily, but another part of him though was still upset that they never told him.

Especially since it also concerned "them" too.

Magic. Of everything that could have been his family's secret, it had to be magic of all things. In just a while ago he only enjoyed the concept of magic through the comfort of a nice seat, but now he was literally living it, and that had made him feel uncomfortable inside.

Never in his entire lifetime did he even found himself relating to some fictional characters as he precisely did now.

Confused, overwhelmed, stressed, disappointed, a variety of emotions all blended into one mix.

Such a terrible combination.

As he thought of all those things, his blue cerulean pupils accidentally trailed and landed at the black house cat that was looking at him. He then turned slightly and faced the feline with a bored expression.

So, are you really a cat?, he nonchalantly asked.

What type of question is that?!

Sorry., Nathanael mumbled., Just thought that you might be something else too.

A sudden recollection then came flooding in his brain, remembering more about the events of yesterday.

He turned to his mothers once again and fired out another inquiry.

What other creatures go through settling?

Yes, your mage., answered Zelena with a nod., Will he be joining us as well?

For a moment, Juleka just stood there, trying to figure out in her head on what the little sprite girl was exactly meaning. It was only until when realization hit her in memory lane that she finally knew.

You mean Nathanael?, Juleka asked.

So that's his name., said the sprite.

Suddenly there was a knock on her door that was then followed by a male voice.

Jules? Are you done packing yet?

The young girl stiffened before running to the door's direction. She then leaned the side of her head to it before answering her brother.

Almost.

She then proceeded to sigh in relief when she heard his footsteps. She pressed her back against the door as a way to keep her balance. The sprite girl then flew to her while giving her a curious look.

Juleka pondered on what exactly she should do with her until an idea popped inside her head while a cunning smile crept around her lips, the sprite in turn was taken aback by her abrupt shift in demeanor, suddenly now feeling a little uneasy.

After finishing a discussion about which species of magical beings goes through settling, the boy looked to the clock hanging by the wall and stood.

I'm off to school now., he told them nonchalantly.

The couple quickly became surprised.

You're still going?, Wendy asked.

You know you can stay here if you want?, Naomi suggested.

Nathanael shook his head as he sheepishly stated., I can't. You see, the thing is…

He took a second to consider before deciding to speak.

I'm not exactly the only one in my class whose going though settling right now.

The two women, along with even the cat, had instantly became even more shocked by what he told them.

Was that why you asked?

Nathanael reluctantly nodded.

Not exactly. We're not really all that close.

Awkward., teased Shadow.

Nathanael gave him a glare as he shot daggers at it.

Just want to check on an update. From what I could tell from yesterday, she seemed to have been as confused as I was with this whole settling and magic thing going on. I just want to have a talk and see what she now knows that's all.

This garnered the duo's curiosity.

Was she poltergeising like you?

No. But she did transformed into a mouse.

They then turned baffled.

Are you truly certain that she knows nothing about?, Naomi asked, as if demanding to know the answer.

No. I'm pretty sure about that.

Have you at least seen her family before?

No., Nathanael answered while thinking., Her parents never really show up during family stuff. But I think Alix mentioned that she lives with just her mom. Oh, and she also has a brother whose a part of Rose's band. But other than that, that's all I know about him.

The two continued being perplexed.

Have you ever seen her or her brother doing something… suspicious?

Not really., he said., But I rarely ever interact with her so I wouldn't really be much of a good source. And as for her brother, well his hair is completely blue but I'm pretty sure those were just dyed. What's with all the questions anyway? Is there anything else I need to know about?

They both looked at each other uncomfortably.

It's nothing dear.

Although if she does know of something-

Naomi said within a stern face.

- then you must inform us of this immediately.

She received an elbow from her partner after that.

After a brief second of exchanging banters, the woman with the bob hair cut began to speak once again.

Well then if that's the case., she raised her left hand and demonstrated to the boy her two fingers intertwining with each other., I want you to do this?

Confused, the teenager asked., Why?

It's a basic protection spell., Naomi explained., It's design to keep you from any form of danger.

Crossing…fingers?

They both nodded their heads at the same time.

Nathanael obliged as he looked at his own fingers crossing, turning him even more confused.

By… wishing myself luck.

The two women's eyes droop.

Well where did you think that belief originated in the first place?, Wendy stated as if it was already extremely obvious.

Though still perplexed, the boy still nodded his head anyway, not taking his gaze away from his two digits.

Just then a knock was heard from their door. Since Nathanael was already standing up, and while also being as the one positioned the closest, he instinctively came and opened it. When he did, he was met with a man that he had never seen before.

Standing there in front of his door step the man in question appeared fairly normal. With brown hair, a slightly tanned skin tone, and an orange t, he could literally walk by pass him on the streets and wouldn't even think of it. However, it was through his red pupils that stared at him that made the boy feel quite uneasy.

Can I…help you?, he asked warily.

The stranger delivered him an amused smile as he spoke-

So this is the famous Nathan heh? You know you caused me a lot of trouble yesterday?

Nathanael stumbled back at the man's surprising choice of words, being startled as it wasn't necessarily something one would expect for a stranger to say (especially as he knew his name). He then decided to study the unknown man a little more, just to make sure if he had really did never met him before or else their interaction might result in him slamming the door and calling the police department.

As he did, he observed that the man looked to be about around his young adulthood stage, probably somewhere about his late 20's or early 30's. He looked to also be carrying something from behind his back but couldn't properly tell what.

With nothing to get through from that, he chose instead to simply asked-

Do I know you?, he inquired curiously with a raised brow.

Amour!, suddenly both his mothers exclaimed from the counter, causing him to jump and turn around out of sheer shock.

The man by the front door step then started laughing, making him turn around once again to face him once more.

Sorry. *chuckle* You should have seen your face though- *chuckle*

As he calmed down from his chortling, he then began to speak again.

No. no., he explained., Amour-*chuckle* Amour is just simply my name.

Once he found out, his face immediately turned red while he used his bangs as a cover while he looked down.

Oh., was the only thing that managed to have come out of his mouth.

The man then continued looking at him fondly while inspecting his features. His eyes reading with amusement.

Amour what are you doing here?, asked the chubby woman with red hair, her voice seeming to hint as if she was also saying "you're not supposed to he here". Amour however had simply rolled his pupils playfully while returning back to the boy.

I believe this-

He then finally revealed on what he was hiding behind him, and what Nathanael saw completely surprised him.

It was his book bag.

His eyes widened as his mouth went agap, he then tried to ravaged every part of his form, only now realizing that he wasn't currently wearing his bag.

He looked back to Amour, who now was trying to hand the said item to him. Nathanael took it a bit cautiously with an expression still showing both bewilderment and disbelief.

Thank you., he said sheepishly with a low voice.

You're welcome., Amour shrugged playfully., I've heard what you did by the way.

From looking at his bag, the boy gave the man a questioning look.

What?

The man giggled out of amusement prior to coming a little closer, kneeling a bit down, and whispering-

Granny Spooks.

Nathanael gasped.

Don't worry though., the young adult calmed him while pointing his eyes to the boy's mothers., Your secret is safe with me.

The redhead relaxed himself before asking-

How?

The man laughed inwardly once more.

Let's just say that when the hag came behind bars, the story she confessed on how she got her butt kicked by two kids immediately kind of spread like wild fire., his red orbs then looked at him proudly., One of the kids in particular, she told, was said to have red hair.

The boy jerked back.

Fortunately for you, she didn't know your name. I just kind of managed to have connected the dots with me searching for you and all.

You were searching for me?, Nathanael asked in surprise.

Didn't your moms tell you?, the young adult raised a brow., I mean they called me themselves to ask for help in finding you? That's how I got permission from the warlocks earlier when they inspected Granny Spooks' hideout. I mean, how did you think I got your bag from?

Nathanael blinked for a couple of seconds before recalling back that the last he did saw his bag was prior to being taken to her dungeon, with that logic it would make sense of how it got there.

What are you two talking in there?, Wendy abruptly interrupted.

Just then something started to ring and it turned out to be coming from Amour's phone. The brunette then stood up straight again as he took out his device. Once he read of whatever was written there, the aforementioned man then made a reluctant sigh.

My job just never ends, does it?, he murmured.

He came back into looking at Nathanael one last time while giving out a fond smile, while the boy in turn looked at him curiously again.

Has anyone ever told you, the man asked, on how much you resemble your old man?

That sudden statement instantly made Nathanael shock.

You knew my dad?

Amour nodded.

AMOUR!, the two women simultaneously hissed, causing for the young illustrator to turn around to them in surprise. When he came back to ask questions to the brunette, he saw that Amour was no longer there. Instead what he saw in his place was a tiny red beetle, a ladybug, flying by until it left, Nathanael watched it until it was no longer of his peripheral view.

A smile curled on his lips, mostly for two reasons. One was because the insect reminded him of a particular superheroine who he very much "admired" (causing him to blush quite a bit), and the second was because he found himself wanting to meet the stranger again soon, wishing to have more of a conversation about what he knew about his dad.

Are you really sure that you can do this?, a concerned Luka questioned while his sister was locking up her bike. Both siblings were at Francoise Dupont, at the area that the school reserved for where students and staffs could usually park their bikes. Luka was already done with chaining his bike while Juleka was still kneeling down, suddenly stopping with her keys and lock when her brother asked her that.

Instead of answering however, Juleka had only remained quiet, not wanting to further the guilt that was slowly tormenting her soul. As said before, Luka had his ways, as it was almost nearly impossible to lie to him. She knew that he knew that she was keeping something from him, and it pained her knowing that she was hurting him.

It was in his eyes, in his face, in his voice. He wanted her to talk to him regarding on what was really bothering her, but he also didn't desire to push her into a tight corner so he was giving hints instead, that way the choice was hers.

He worried about her, and here she was deceiving, a fruitless effort but an effort she still did.

How terrible she was as a person, how disgusted she was at herself at the moment.

Seeing her uneasy state, Luka knew he had already gotten his answer. He then began walking his way into the building, but as he did he plastered up a smile, then held his sister's shoulder.

You know where to find me., offered the blue haired boy before finally making his leave.

Juleka sighed, thankful once again to Luka, but a part of her had only felt even more worst for not even saying a word.

How thoughtful he was yet how selfish she was.

Why couldn't she just confess and tell her whole story of what really happened? Oh, that's right, because of how outrageous it was. No matter how down to earth Luka was, she was certain that even he wouldn't believe a tale involving girls turning into mice, sentient shadows, demon grandmas, levitating rocks, and green skinned humanoids with insect wings, claiming to live at the Trocadero gardens. Well, probably not unless an akuma was involved that is.

Sigh.

Why must all the crazies revolve around her? Why couldn't she just be normal like the rest?

She told herself that while watching as others entered the school.

Juleka sighed again, knowing that there was nothing more she could do. What happened has happened and she guessed that was that.

With a heavy heart, Juleka finally stood up. She placed the key into her pocket as she started entering the stoned structure.

As she walked awkwardly and a bit too self-consciously, the girl decided to distant herself from her guilt and worries with other things.

Like-

Oh how great of a feeling it was to be walking on two legs again instead of four. Never again will she complain about walking, jogging, skipping, or even running.

After climbing the flight of stairs, she finally entered through the gates, she continued and went to her destination.

Meanwhile unbeknownst to her however, just leaving the locker room, a familiar redheaded boy had just exited, standing nervously while clutching his two hands to the strap of his book bag.

He observed the people who were passing by, as they chatted, smiled, and continued to go onto their merry way. How they all lived their lives without much of a care, how they all managed to have blended in to one another into a collective group. Seeing them made him feel a feeling that he hadn't felt for a really long time. A feeling that would sometimes haunt him, he felt…alienated.

He hated the feeling of being alienated. To be forced to stand alone while as others would stand together. To be part of the crowd yet still feeling quite lonely. It wasn't fair, why must he suffer by always playing the role as the black sheep of the herd? Why must he always be left wondering if there was something truly wrong with him.

How they all get to do their daily routines in life while as he had his entire world view shaken, just thinking about it made him feel sick.

Just as he was left at his own ponderings, a voice suddenly called, greeting him.

Nathan!

He turned to his right and saw a particular companion of his coming towards him.

Marc., his own voice muttered out of sheer surprise, probably due to meeting him unexpectedly.

As the dark haired boy walked forward, he noticed that the redhead was acting a little off. He recalled about the news regarding yesterday, about him running off and going missing. He also remembered of how he witnessed the other's sudden strange action when he sprinted pass by him. He first thought of it as nothing at first, until he learned later on from Alix about his disappearance.

He gave him a concerned look.

Are you ok? You really had me worried?

Nathanael looked down in regret, aware of what the other was referring about.

I'm sorry., he apologized without meeting Marc's gaze., Just had some really bad stuff going around.

What kind of stuff?, his friend asked curiously.

Nathanael stiffed before giving out his answer.

Personal stuff.

Personal?, Marc repeated., Personal like in chapter 17 of the Totally Rangers graphic novel kind of personal? Or personal like the latest issue of the new Night Owl and Sparrow kind of personal?

Nathanael sighed.

Like the Night Owl and Sparrow kind of personal?

Oh., Marc responded, knowing that that had meant of him not wanting to bring the topic of whatever was bothering him any further.

Though reluctant and desiring to know, he nevertheless understood as he let out some air from his orals while nodding his head.

Ok then., he said to him.

Nathanael felt ashamed for not telling Marc, his mouth receiving a taste of bitterness while as his hands had now subconsciously clutched the strap of his bag further. He was his best friend and one of is closest compatriots, yet he knew that even he cannot know about the events of yesterday, aware that it would only cause him more trouble than he already does presently.

As he became occupied with such thoughts he hadn't noticed that his associate had already shifted moods from worrying to casual. The boy with the messy hair adjusted himself up before creating a smile to his friend.

He made a teasing smirking look.

Alix was worried about you too by the way., he blatantly told him, causing the redhead to tense in dread.

Joy., Nathanael sarcastically groaned mentally. Knowing Alix, he would most likely have a really long "talk" with his longest friend once they meet.

Sh-she did, did she?, despite the illustrator's best efforts, his voice had still managed to have quavered due to fear.

Yeah., responded the other., She even went out looking for you last night.

Did she now?, Nathanael's shoulders had now dropped while gazing upon the floor, now growing increasingly guilty.

This hadn't gone out of Marc's radar before he made another rather mischievous smirk.

Yup., he told., But I wouldn't really be too worried if I were you.

That statement had caught the redhaired teenager off guard a he blinked before asking-

And why is that?

Marc looked as if he was preventing himself form chortling, making his right hand into a fist while covering his mouth with the side of it, his shoulders jumping.

Let's just say… that our little skater friend had managed to have found herself her "soul mate" while she was out rollerblading.

She what?!, Nathanael practically shouted out of bewilderment, his very mind struggling to grasp on the information Marc had just told him., How?

The other chuckled.

Trust me., he told him., It would be way better if you find out you're self.

The redhead looked questioningly but nevertheless took his word for it.

His peripherals then wandered to the top of Marc's head, to which instantly he drooped after taking notice of their height difference.

Seriously?, he muttered in his thoughts., Every guy gets to have their growth spurts but me?

Said something?, the boy with the red jacket asked with Nathanael shaking his head after.

Its nothing., he managed to have answered quite casually, but inside he was a bit embarrassed for allowing such thoughts to resurface.

Marc furrowed his brows but decided to accept his answer anyway.

He then started walking, to which Nathanael had followed. They then stepped around the same pace while continuing their conversation.

So, started Marc., have you seen the new trailer for the new anime yet?

Which one?, Nathanael laughed., There's a lot.

You know…, Marc snapped his fingers trying to remember, even asking himself on why he even forgot in the first place., The one based around Frozella?

Oh yeah that one!, Nathanael remembered., No sorry I haven't yet. But I can't wait till it comes out though, the first trailer really hit with a bang. Shame we have to wait till winter.

Yeah, I really hate that part too., Marc agreed., Oh what about the book I lent to you, have you read it yet?

The redhead smiled.

Actually I have, and it wasn't as bad as you described it to be. It even inspired me for our next issue next month-

Yeah I wouldn't go there., his companion raised an open palm as a gesture for him to stop., While I would admit that it had me on edge, the plot itself was simply just way too cliché. However now that I think about it, I can see why you would actually like that.

Hey what's that supposed to mean?, Nathanael asked defensively.

Oh nothing., his friend shrugged his shoulders playfully, though the teenage illustrator already had quite a good idea of what he meant of that, and he knew that Marc was aware that he knew as well.

He truly had grown since the last time he first met him, and he wasn't simply referring to his height. Since the year prior he first met the messy dark haired writer, he had observed his slow shift from awkward shy guy, to a more out-going and free -spirited version of himself. Granted he was still the same old Marc, with some habits that would likely never change, he just simply grew a spine that's all.

Still to this day though the mystery of what exactly triggered for his companion to change remained to baffle the young artist. However, whatever the case could be he was happy for his best friend's development. He deserved to be more cheerful and to be able to stand on his own to feet. Sometimes his change would be much to his annoyance (judging from how sassy he surprisingly turned out to be), but ultimately he was indeed genuinely proud for him. And perhaps, even a bit envious.

Its actually pretty funny sometimes when he thought about it. He had heard from a conversation with Alix (whom in turn heard it from Marinette) that the reason on why Marc was so eager to work with him was actually due to being inspired after seeing the drawings he was forced to display online in order to promote the art club. To think that he was actually able to inspire someone with his mere drawings was, kind of flattering to say the least. To have actually had his very own fan was something he would have never anticipated even in a million years.

And the most hilarious part of it all, was that like Marc used to look up to him, it was now ironically his turn to look up to Marc. He was envious, yes, but not in a bad way.

If Marc could grow a back bone, then perhaps, maybe it was possible for him to grow one too someday.

Yeah right., he mentally snickered to himself.

It wasn't long until the two of them parted ways. Since Marc's classroom was on the first floor, he wasn't required to use the stairs like he did.

Welp, guess here's my stop., said the messy haired boy while pointing at a certain door., See you later then Nate!

They waved goodbye at each other.

Marc jogged towards his class while as Nathanael smiled watching him leave.

Once he was alone again his cerulean orbs wandered around subconsciously as they observed the environment around him. He watched as plenty of the people he saw spent their time merrily without a care or a hint of worry again.

Suddenly his mind would return in recalling about "settling".

His mouth transformed into a frown after thinking of that again.

Why must all the nonsense happen to me?, he complained.

His eyes then turned directly towards his associate's classroom, accidentally glancing as his friend talked with some of his classmates.

A slight smile almost crept on his face, but it quickly vanished before it could even develop. His eyes then looked down to the floor below him, his head pondering on certain unwanted thoughts yet again.

There was certainly something perplexing about sudden revelations, especially if said revelations tests on how much one truly knows about one's self. In his own vocabulary, he could probably describe it as something akin to an identity crisis, mixed with an increase in self wariness, and possibly uncertainty, he wasn't really all that sure.

To be a mage., that was a sentence he never thought he would use. In fact, the more he repeated it in his mind, the more he found on how outlandish it sounded. It was even funny to the point where he would almost stifle a chortle. How the gears inside his head could still find a way for him to laugh, was a mystery beyond all doubt.

It wasn't long till he brushed all such thoughts aside for now, just wanting nothing more but to sit on his seat again without anyone to bother him.

He climbed up the metallic flight of stairs, looking down at each step while being aloof.

Once Nathanael was about to reach the top end of the stairs though, the boy looked up and immediately he halted.

Standing there at the top landing, all while unknowingly blocking his way, was a girl with long dark hair.

She must've heard his foot steps because eventually she turned around and instantly became stunned when she faced him.

They both looked onto each other, surprise very much evident. Not a one uttered a single word or sound as they found themselves in an awkward position.

It was as if they became like statues, frozen with no movement.

Excuse me, but are you going to move?

It was only when a random guy showed up and interrupted that they gained back their sense of the present.

They both turned to the guy's direction behind Nathanael who, was too, climbing up prior to getting caught by the traffic jam.

Oh., Nathanael instantly proceeded to step while as Juleka reacted by giving way for them.

Once the guy had left the awkward deafening silence resurfaced, forming for the two to look away from the other.

How they even managed to have talked so casually had now certainly disappeared. All that was left were two practical strangers who just happen to know each other's names, while all attending the same class.

And perhaps that was what initially had conjured it, for despite being classmates they were in all conventional use of the term, stranger.

Strangers who had simply shared a secret with one another.

Awkward.

Suddenly the teasing words of a certain black cat echoed into the mind of the young artist. It was true that checking up on Juleka was the main reason as of why he decided to attend school today, but he didn't expect on how awkward there meeting would actually become. He thought their interaction would be similar to just like yesterday, but it very well seems that without all the confusion and all the life-threatening scenarios going on, had left nothing but pure… awkwardness.

He felt awkward and he was sure that she felt the same way as well.

It was a sensation that was nearly indescribable and a bit too underwhelming, but despite all that he knew in the back of his head that he at least should try and start saying something.

He gulped before formulating his first sentence.

S-so… y-you d-didn't tell anyone about m-me, did you?

Immediately Nathanael regretted that question, mainly because of how selfish it made him sound.

It was then that Juleka turned to the boy, taken aback by his suddenness, then staring at him before making out her answer.

No., she simply told, monotonous and barely audible as usual.

Nathanael blinked for a few times prior to shaking his head back to reality.

O-Oh. Ok then. That's a relief., the boy admitted, while making a small smile, letting out some breath as if he was finally released from carrying some heavy loan (some). After that he then looked back to Juleka who in turn had just stared at him weirdly.

Is she uncomfortable?

He dropped his gazing, deciding that it was probably best to just leave her be and simply head back to his seat where he could properly think and analyze every heavy thing he had learned so far. After all he was never really good at stirring up a conversation anyway, especially if the one he was supposed to be conversing with was someone he rarely took notice of.

True that perhaps in the past he was at least able to make a few small talk with her, mostly just to ask for a repeat on a teacher's instruction, or the usual obligational greeting-nod whenever they find each other somewhere other than school, and perhaps he at least was also able to converse with her just fine for almost the entirely of yesterday, but again that was yesterday, where he just spontaneously went with the flow to distract himself from the things that were stressing him, such as Granny Spooks and the previously unknown accursed enigma that was magic. But now since those stressors were gone, there was really nothing holding him back from reverting to his usual behavior when conversing with people he wasn't already used to. It was really better for both of them if he just left her alone.

Really better. Yeah, better.

What he hadn't known however was that while he was busy spacing out with his thoughts again, Juleka, on the other hand was actually taking her time in observing him.

Though initially feeling nervous at first, she had now stared at him with a mind that was perplex.

It somehow amazed her on how different he now looked compared to yesterday, almost as if she was gazing at an entirely different character. Although his red hair and familiar grey jacket remained, she took note of the fact that he had now seemed…shorter, to the point where she had to slightly look downwards just meet his face instead of high upwards like back when she was still a mouse. The shoulders she had initially rode on, the palms she used as elevators, the collar on his jacket that she had used as a hiding place, had now all seemed so…small?

It was truly a marvel of what the power of perspective can do, she told herself.

Suddenly she was quickly snapped out when her fellow teen started walking, his pace apparently a little faster as if he was eager to leave.

She took a moment to process before finally shaking her head, then went sprinting after him, suddenly remembering a certain promise she was supposed to do after meeting him.

Hey wait., Juleka called, her voice as low as it could ever be.

When she finally got to him he was already at Ms. Bustier's door, his hand was already grabbing the door knob when he responded and re-faced the girl, not because he heard her but because he took notice of what she was doing.

Juleka then stopped, took a second to think on what she should say, then started taking off her back pack.

I have to show you something…

Nathanael droop, his expression showing tiredness and exhaustion.

(He really did just wanted nothing more then just to get to his seat).

Can it wait until later?, he asked blankly, but Juleka gave him a pleading and almost really urgent face instead.

It's really important that you see this., her voice now was a little bit more clearer to hear now, though its quality remained still barely audible to some degree or another.

Nathanael raised a brow., Why?, he inquired while already opening the door in order to head in. He was only barely able to make some steps when he, along with Juleka, behold at the sight that caused all Hell to broke loose.

Inside the classroom a small sea of people suddenly stopped with their activities, leading it to become quiet as all instantly became stunned.

Although not really that many, it felt as if like a thousand prying eyes were staring at them, causing an atmosphere of overwhelmingness that they didn't particularly liked.

Both their bodies tensed with both attempting to hide their faces using their bangs respectively while trying to glance away from the crowd.

The awkward air in which they both dreaded at had soon quickly dissipated when a figure came running forth from the collection of people, heading straight to the door with an unpresented speed while squealing loudly and happily-

JULEKAAAAA!

She rushed to the aforementioned' direction, giving little time for Nathanael to dodge (which luckily he did) as she came and embraced the girl who was still standing outside.

I'm so glad you're safe!, the person cried in joy as she squeezed her tightly.

When Juleka finally processed on what just happened, she smiled warmly as she looked down and patted the blond girl on her head friendlily.

Hi Rose., she greeted.

Although shock at first due to the quick suddenness of Rose's action, he somehow couldn't help but smile when he turned around and saw the two.

But his smile was short lived however when noises started coming from behind him, making him turn once again to see his entire class flocking towards to them. No doubt not only to welcome but also most likely to ask them on how they were.

His hypothesis proved correct.

Individually, not known to the other, both Juleka and Nathanael felt quite uncomfortable by the overwhelming attention that they were receiving right about now.

-Are you ok?

-Why did you run like that dude?

-Are you really certain you're ok?

-Are you really not going to speak up?

A million questions flooded them all at once, giving them little time to actually make up an answer. Nathanael even managed to have received a slightly painful punch on the arm from a certain pink haired roller bladder.

I'm ok. Really. Don't worry about me., answered Juleka in her usual monotone, except this time she carried a hint of nervousness with her delivery.

Are you really sure?, inquired Mylene.

We could get you something from the cafeteria if you'd like?, offered Ivan.

Oww! Alix! Seriously?!, Nathanael complained while still rubbing the spot where the skater had hit him.

Well maybe that's what you get?!, scolded Alix., Now talk already! What in blazes was going on inside your head Nate?! If you really needed to use to bathroom then you could have at least haven't made it seem like as if you were some idiot from a cheap horror flick. I literally had to skate, all night, just to find where you were!

And there, just like how Marc told him, his longest friend had to bother and burden herself into searching for a fool.

Why did he had to go to school that day? Why did he had to make so much of a scene?

It made him feel guilty, gravely guilty, it made him feel disappointed and ashamed. How he was angry at his mothers yet here he was doing the same. A liar, a deceiver, even to those nearest to him. For although true he had lied plenty of times before, but with his friends worrying about him, it just simply felt unfair for them.

Magic is consciousness sensitive. It reflects with whatever state your consciousness is at.

Including your emotions.

As the boy surrendered to his regret, he hadn't been aware of what he was causing.

The magic that was seeping through his cells (which fortunately weren't strong enough to actually become visible) had now caused the lights to flicker once more.

Seriously? Again?, Nino whined.

We should really get someone to check on those things., remarked Alya with folded arms.

While as all were bewilderedly looking to the ceiling, only one of them had glanced at the actual source, who now was gazing with a sorrowful expression, clutching extremely tightly to the strap of his book bag. She still remembered on what he did back when they were still at Granny Spooks', and she had also recalled at the other various times where she had managed to have witnessed him either intentionally or unintentionally displaying such an odd ability. She had her own opinions on it, but she could also tell that whatever he was having, he definitely wasn't feeling fond of it.

While she knew he wouldn't notice, she still offered him a sorry look, having an idea or two of what he might be feeling.

But then, abruptly, a certain brunette came in out of nowhere, making Alix and Nathanael jump slightly backwards due to her unexpected appearance.

As like before, she appeared with a poker nonchalant face, shifting eyes from one to the other before finally landing to that of Nathanael's.

I'm glad to see that you're alright., said she, even though she didn't seem like she meant it.

Uh… thanks?, Nathanael returned, feeling weirded out by her once again.

The girl nodded her head before asking him a question.

You still remember what I warned you yesterday right?

Um… yeah., answered the redhead., Something to do with a… Jolly Green Giant?

Brutal Green Giant., the brunette girl corrected.

Uh… yes brutal. That would tear me limb from limb right?

Correct., said the girl.

Ack! What is SHE doing here?!, came the disgusted words of a certain blond who was approaching towards the crowd with her lackey (who in turn appeared kind of regretful) following her side.

Quickly many of the classmates tried to stop from letting the demoness get to Juleka, with Rose even raising one of her arms sideways defensively for the taller girl. Unfortunately, however this did nothing to prevent the snubbish mayor's daughter from heading to her.

Go away Chloe!, the blond threatened.

Yeah back off., followed Alix.

Chloe however didn't pay any attention to them, instead continuing in giving Juleka a menacing death glare.

The demoness stared deeply into Juleka, instantly sending chills upon her very spine. For it did not matter to her anymore about the state of her injured nose, nor even the hilarious soundings of her voice. For it was those, those gazing prying eyes she was making with them that caused her to shiver. Eyes that inspected, eyes filled with judgement, eyes she was already familiar too, eyes she can all too recognize.

The prying eyes, the stare, the gaze, the very eyes that acted as the foundation on why she would sometimes question herself on whether it was better to live noticed or invisible.

The eyes that were ready to call her names she didn't wish to hear.

Especially right now.

You dare show your face here after all the trouble that you've caused yesterday?, Chloe snickered accusingly.

Chloe, stop!

And here I almost thought that you actually grew a braincell?!

Chloe. Not cool.

Enough Chloe.

Don't you realize it yet, freaks like you are no longer welcome here.

Juleka hitched her breath at that last one.

But it very well seems that I have to put you back in your place!

Chloe!

Remember when I told you, about everyone having their own place? Freak?

The blond snickered once again.

Chloe!

Well, I'm here now, to tell you, to go back to the circus, WHERE YOU BELONG!

CHLOE!

Suddenly, everyone's voices came into a halt, for the sound of Adrien's voice raising was something no one had anticipated, probably even more so than Lila being angry.

He glared intensely at the other blond.

What gives you the rights to say all mean stuff to poor Juleka? Don't forget that she isn't the only one who has ever been akumatized? And that includes you're self as well Chlo?

Chloe merely snickered at him.

Oh please Adrikens., she said., Don't you think I didn't realize that?

Adrien did his best not to be fazed.

Then why?, he asked.

Why?, Chloe jeered., Weren't you there yourself when Eris (a lame name) appeared? Weren't you one of the people whom she turned into one of her mindless monsters? Haven't you seen any of the videos that showed how she instilled her utterly ridiculous tantrums?! Adrikens, just look around you?!, she spread her arms to gesture the entire room., In the first day this classroom was practically crowded, and just with that same day as well a lot had already transferred out. Now, personally, I wouldn't care about that, but as I recall, weren't you the one who was really looking forward into meeting new people?

The model gazed down in disappointment as if her words had accomplished in triggering something vulnerable in his part. He sighed before staring back at Chloe.

Yeah. But that doesn't give you the right to accuse her like that. True. The damage Eris has done were terrible. But what exactly makes her any different from that of Miracle Queen?

Well for starters, the diva retorted., she wasn't so much of a freak.

Freak. Again with that accursed word.

I mean seriously-

Juleka snapped out from her train of thought once Chloe turned away from her heated argument with Adrien., What is it with you and turning people into something else? I mean, I know others have already done the same thing but two personas from the same person! At least Miraculer was a spice up compared to Vanisher.

Thanks Chloe!

Why are you so fixated on that anyway? How much of a weirdo can you really get?

Chloe!

Despite her harsh tone and behavior, everything that the blond diva said was true, and Juleka knew that. The more now that she observed the classroom, the more she sensed her venomous words came through. Innocent kids like herself might have been truly excited to attend here this year, and now, just because she was weak, just because she had allowed Hawkmoth to infiltrate her mind, just because she was acting like such a drama queen during that day, she had also inadvertently caused probably enough trauma for them to decide to leave. And worst, if by any chance her class was merely an example of Eris' aftermath, then who knows how much she had actually caused for the entire school as a whole. Her brother had warned her to not be such a downer, but did she heed? No, she didn't. Why couldn't she be as down to Earth as he was? Why couldn't she be as thoughtful as that of Marinette, Mylene, or Lila? Why couldn't she be as optimistic as Rose? Why couldn't she be as strong as Alya, or as tough as Alix, why was she such a terrible-terrible person.

Oh, when will all the guilt end? From starting her morning with deceit to knowing the results of her own sins, if yesterday was a living nightmare, then today was a close third after the Eris incident.

Gasping was heard, leaving almost everyone agap. But while some went silent and others started bantering against Chloe. Juleka, the very target herself, fell her own gaze towards the floor below, feeling the ever increasing sensation of guilt overtaking her.

Freak!

Freak!

Unnoticed by everyone, including herself, some faint and purple colored energy that took the shape of what might seem like flames, started swirling around the various parts of her body, from her arms, to her legs, to her thighs, to even her very fingertips. Her own eyes even started to glow into faint violet color as they had only grown stronger by the second. But disappeared just as easily as they had appeared once she heard another voice.

What is going on around here?

All the students looked towards the direction of the source of that voice, now seeing as their advisor casually approaching with a puzzled look. She looked around them until she spotted her two missing students amongst the crowd. She then quickened her pace as she skipped forward to them.

I'm so glad that the two of you are safe and alright!, said Ms. Bustier with pure gladness in her tone., I was so worried.

Both the teens she was talking to looked away, simultaneously feeling ashamed.

Sorry.

I'm sorry.

Their teacher then offered them a caring smile as she fixed her hair out.

It's okay., she told., And also, both of your respective parents have already called me earlier. So you don't need to provide for any explanations. Juleka-

She turned to the girl.

If you really don't want to talk it out, then that's okay for now.

She returned with a nod.

And Nathanael-

She turned to the boy.

That goes with you too.

Nathanael sighed before nodding as well.

Also you shouldn't worry about speaking to the principal's office., she informed., I've already handled everything. Although, she gave the boy a stern look., I will be expecting an apology letter from you Mr. Running off while in school hours without permission is still against the rules.

Of course., he inwardly muttered.

Alright, now that that's settled-

From beside her a girl came holding her knees while catching her breath due to exhaustion.

Sorry I'm late!

The entire class just stared at her perplexed while as Marinette raised her head only to find everyone looking strangely.

Did I miss anything?

After the whole messy and chaotic ordeal from earlier, with the entire interrogation thing, Nathanael found the actual class hours to not truly be that bad. Granted of course he still kind of felt uncomfortable with his classmates and friends glancing at his direction from time to time, it was at least still relatively better than to be forced to stand in front of everyone while being stared upon and judged.

He was absolutely grateful for Ms. Bustier for that, she truly committed to her words when she told him that she wasn't going to try and push him. Reminding the redhead once again on why he would always favor her over Ms. Mendeleive any day.

Soon as the clock went by, it had seemed that his entire class had now completely forgotten about him. No longer were they offering him a concerned side-stare, but instead had now either proceeded to listen to the teacher's lessons, or were now quietly indulging themselves with whatever they were doing.

He took that as relief.

While as plenty of other people may probably become annoyed on the fact of being just another background character, he wasn't. As already explained before, he was never particularly fond of receiving too many attentions all at once, to him the feeling was just way too overbearing for his taste, still though, he would wish for at least some little amount of visibility from time to time.

Ironic he knew, but to be fair he was pretty sure that no one would like to experience being grilled like he was.

As he sat alone in his seat at the back of the classroom while drawing in his sketch book as he usually does, the illustrator somehow cannot help but take a peek at the girl who was just at the other side to where he was.

She sat there, alongside her usual blond haired companion. While the later seeming to be taking down notes, the former had appeared to be uninterested, instead she seemed to be thinking about something while appearing uneasy.

And he might have an idea as of why.

He after all knew about her secret as much as she knew his. It was obvious without a doubt that something regarding yesterday might still be bothering her.

He knew he was.

Nathanael was aware that he will have to talk things out with her eventually, and so, with a reluctant and heavy sigh, he made his decision. That later, he was going to have to go and confront Juleka.

It was now lunch time with almost every student at school presently occupying the cafeteria. Some were at the counter waiting in line, some were already sitting and eating their meals, and some didn't even bought food at all, instead buying their spare time doing other activities such as reading, texting, playing video games, gossiping, etc.

From one of the tables Alix was seen, phone in hand, showing to her friends some photos she had taken last night.

Isn't he just so cute?!, the said girl cooed excitedly as she proceeded swipe her screen to reveal various other pictures. Her friends could only agree with her, "he" truly really was just so cute.

Soon after both Rose and Juleka joined their crew, sitting down along carrying their trays of food with them respectively.

Once Rose's eyes landed on Alix's device, the former quickly, and just as instantly, grabbed the said gadget with her large sparkling blue orbs and her regular wide smile.

Oh my gosh! SO Adorbs!, the blond squealed in passion.

With her interest and curiosity now piqued, the girl with dark hair crested her brows as she took a look of what the fuss was all about.

Immediately her eyes went wide and her mouth gawked.

She then turned her gaze towards the owner of the phone.

Where did you get this?, she asked baffled.

The pink haired female returned her friend's puzzled stare, becoming puzzled herself.

Last night. Why?

Juleka returned her eyes back towards the screen, seeing the sight with shock. She then looked the photo more keenly, its familiarity she could undeniably recognize. The picture on the screen, there was no doubt about it, for in those photos, in every swipe and every picture, were nothing more but the same exact rabbit she had met back at Granny Spooks.

Found him last night actually., the roller bladder suddenly explained, returning back to her earlier cheerful mood., See I was skating around town when out of nowhere this white fur ball hopped right in front me and made me fall on my butt., she spoke the last words with slight annoyance., So yeah, anyway, when I took a glance to see what it was and saw this poor little bunny just wandering off the busy streets.

Everyone listened to her story, but from all of the bunch, Juleka appeared to be the one who was most invested.

So, then what?, asked Alya.

Well, the skater continued., at first I looked around, hoping to see if I could find his owner or whatever. But then when I couldn't I looked back to the fur ball and saw it look scared for some reason., everyone shared a sympathetic look for the small animal, with Juleka being the only exception, being more curious and baffled on how that same lagomorph somehow found itself to someone she already knew.

I didn't know on why it was scared, but I knew that I couldn't just leave it there. I didn't know what I should do until…

She abruptly paused at midsentence, making her circle of companions even more curious.

Until what?, inquired Mylene.

Until…I realized, on how much cute it really was!, Alix practically squealed out the final parts in her own tomboyish-Alix way.

It was truly a strange and rare occasion whenever watching Alix behaving in such a manner, but despite that it was totally nothing new really.

Just as how people weren't bound to the stereotypes they were given, Alix was always more than what people viewed her as.

Not long after she had first met the roller bladder, she, and probably everyone else, noticed her weakness towards the things she considered as adorable, a weakness that could potentially rival Rose's if ever offered the chance.

For in contrast to her regular attitude, she was actually surprisingly fond with the idea of cuteness.

At times she and her friends would even wonder on what her bedroom might look like. Which probably might be an odd admixture of all things cute and cool.

Which was fine, funny, but fine.

She could still even recall that awkward time when Alix and Rose made a bet with each other regarding Marinette with the later ultimately losing at the end, having to relinquish her possession over one of her plush unicorns, much to the internal joy of the former.

She wished she could be like Alix, not caring about what the opinions of others say.

So anyway…, the pink haired roller bladder then continued on., after making a couple more rounds around I've made up my mind to carry the little fur ball and brought it home with me.

Her friends cheered in delight, but at a low volume of course as to not disturb any of the others eating.

So, what do you call it?, Rose inquired, both her fists raising up to somewhere right about to the level of her jaw.

The skater smirked.

Well, after checking its uh…you know, and discovering that it was a boy, I'd decided to personally name him, Fluff.

It was then that the majority of them cooed and awed with Juleka remaining to tilt her head and Marinette somehow becoming surprised, worried, and shock, all at the same time.

Uh…why "Fluff" exactly?, she hesitantly questioned.

The roller bladder widened her eyes for a split second and before turning away sheepishly with a now stiff body as she answered the bluenette with a rather suspicious tone.

Umm… I don't know…, she returned nervously., I guess-I guess he just kind of reminded me of someone else I know. Totally nothing to do with superheroes or an awesome future and anything like that, you know?

Her circle stared at her weirdly.

She then returned back her smirk after that.

And besides, she then revealed her phone again, along with the pictures., you got to admit, he does kind of look like a Fluff.

Though still having questions they couldn't help but agree.

Marinette sighed contently prior to reverting her relaxed expression.

They then watched as the tomboy continued on swiping her device while proceeding to proudly talk about her new pet.

I know its kind of weird of me to say this, but I'm kind of glad that I met Fluff. He really helped me cheer up after the stressful day I was having., she stated., Honestly he was probably the one good thing that happened last night.

Her mood then quickly transformed to an angry and frustrated one.

Speaking of which-

She stood up before pointing an accusing finger at someone sitting not that far away from her own table (Marc) while scolding at him.

You were supposed to question him!

The green eyed boy became shocked for a second before defending himself.

I did!, he told., But he told that it was a Night Owl and Sparrow kind of personal!

And I don't even know what that means!, she retorted.

She then concealed her peripherals as she massaged her forehead all while mumbling to herself-

I swear, when you're friends with a bunch of nerds.

Until she heard snorting.

She opened her eyes again and threw another accusing finger towards a particular redhead, causing the boy to tense.

And you! Don't even think that you're already at the safe zone yet buddy! After I'm done with you, Ms. Bustier will not be the only person you're going to write a letter of apology to!

Yes ma'am.

The girls shared a couple of laughs after watching such a hilarious display, Juleka also chuckled herself before her coppers accidentally drifted into a particular demoness who, in which glared at her prior to heading on her way.

Juleka bobbed down for a moment before tapping Rose's shoulder.

I'm heading back to class., she told her.

The cheerful blond gave her a nod before the dark haired girl stood and walked away.

Nathanael silently watched her leave with an empathic expression.

As Juleka headed her way towards the exit she suddenly became a little surprised when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around in curiosity and was stunned to find Nathanael standing there self-consciously while looking straightly at the floor below.

He seemed to have hesitated for a couple of seconds at first before he eventually began speaking.

We really need to talk.

The girl just stood there, processing of what he just said, prior to shaking her head.

She then nodded at him, indicating that she agreed.

The two then headed out the cafeteria together.

As they wandered through the court yard, which also acted as the school's main hallway, the two walked aimlessly without sharing a single word nor making eye contact with each other.

Still too hesitant and nervous.

Juleka then saw an empty bench and offered for her classmate to sit in there while also telling him to wait until she gets back.

The boy obliged.

He then sat there while as the girl quickened her pace while heading up the stairs.

He wondered on what she might have in mind.

It wasn't long after until Juleka eventually returned, now presently carrying her bag in hand.

Nathanael looked curiously at it.

When she finally got closer, the teenage artist scooted over slightly as the girl sat right beside him.

They then shared another quiet and awkward moment.

(these was seriously getting old)

Both of them were never really all that good whenever it came to the art of socializing.

They then looked down to the ground nervously, trying in their best to think of something to say.

It was obvious that neither of them wanted to talk about yesterday, as yesterday was simply one of those days that one wishes to have been a nightmare instead. But unfortunately for the two, that wasn't how reality worked.

In addition to that, they were also practically strangers (as already mentioned)! Strangers who knew of nothing and have only been forced to come to when they are now, simply for the very fact that fate was cunningly cruel.

How ironic it was for two classmates that weren't friends or enemies, to be the only ones in the entirety of Francoise Dupont to share in such a common yet enigmatic experience.

And hopefully that was the only thing they shared, Nathanael thought in his mind.

After all, suddenly finding out that you weren't what you always thought you were was a deeply heavy concept to grasp. To suddenly learn that the very people who you trusted were keeping something hidden was painful to say the least, even if he understood on why to some extend. Even until now he was still busy fighting that internal war inside his head, and he'd rather go through it alone. He'd rather be struck by lightning than to let someone else go through that same burden, so it was why he'd rather hope that his classmate was simply just "placed under a curse" (if there really was such a thing (after all magic was a thing)) or something along those lines.

That way it would be easier to solve her problem, unlike his, his fate was now definitely sealed.

Nathanael then attempted his best effort to look at her, whom in turn, remained gazing her eyes away.

He felt sympathy towards her, for although he did not know much about the said girl, he did know that she didn't deserve all this.

After all, she was one of those few people who never tried to make fun of him.

And he hated being made fun of.

So, eventually, gathering up whatever self-confidence he had, the boy gulped in and swallowed some of his own saliva before finally starting the conversation.

He thought of what exactly he should say, as he didn't want to make an embarrassment for himself like earlier. She was probably thinking that he was too self centered, so he thought it best to start things concerning her.

But what?

Like said, he pretty much knew nothing about her.

He then recalled of last night after he and Juleka managed to have miraculously defeated Granny Spooks.

It was when she had mysteriously returned back into a human, when both of them had a talk.

She talked about heading back home which ultimately lead him to do the same as well, she also talked about the reason why was because she didn't want her family to worry about her.

Her family.

That seems to be the perfect way to begin.

After taking in an inhale of breath, Nathanael finally made his vocals cords into use.

So…um…, he begun nervously., how are you're family by the way?

This instantly caught the girl's attention as she looked at him by surprise.

She blinked for a few times prior to speaking herself.

My… family?, she inquired.

You know…, Nathanael clarified., how did they take it, once you got back.

She nodded her head.

Pretty good., Juleka shifted her pupils., Mom was cool enough to not ask questions until tomorrow. Which is today.

It took a moment for Nathanael to get that, it amazed him on how he could understand her words more clearer back when she was still a mouse rather than a human.

Don't worry., she continued., Like I said, I didn't told anyone about you., she then looked curiously at him., Did you told anyone about me?

Nathanael winced when she asked that question before glancing below shamefully.

Sadly yes., he confessed in guilt.

Juleka became shocked before Nathanael jumped while trying to explain.

But I swear I can explain!, his speech was quick, indicating nervousness. He threw both his hands in front of him, sort of as a way to gesture for her not to hit him.

Nathanael then cleared his throat as he returned back to his previous mood.

You see…

He then detailed to her about everything, every single part, from start to end with nothing (as far as he knew) left in between. From confirming the existence of magic, to discovering that he was magic, to telling her that he belonged to an entire family of mages, down to even telling her about his own self dilemma of identity and existential issues.

Nathanael also told her of how he learned about his mothers being magic, and how he had to ask if they knew anything about people transforming into mice as he inquired about her.

Oh., was all Juleka could utter after.

Yeah., the redhead returned., I'm sorry.

Juleka simply nodded, indicating no hard feelings.

A little moment of quietness ensured while they thought of where to go through next.

So, Nathanael re-started., since I kind of already told you about me, can you tell me about you? Did…did you also find out that you're secretly a part of an entire underground world of magic? (he hoped not)

The girl glanced at him.

No., she answered., But to be fair I never asked, so I'm not really sure. Though I kind of doubt it.

Why?, he raised a brow.

I don't know. Its just a feeling I guess. Trust me, if you ever get a chance to meet them, you'll be surprise of how open they can be (unlike me). It would be really hard to imagine that they could keep a secret that big.

You never know., Nathanael muttered.

Juleka stared at him weirdly, not exactly catching of what he just said as the teenaged boy shook his head vigorously before plastering a smile.

It's nothing.

He calmed when Juleka accepted that.

Another awkward moment of deafening quietness came forth between until Juleka spoke.

Mages?

Nathanael's shoulders tensed once he heard her say that, he also took the tone of her usual low voice into consideration.

He looked down shamefully once more.

Yeah I know, it does kind of sound stupid., he embarrassedly hid his face from her., You must think I'm some kind of monster or something, do you?

Not at all.

He was surprised by her answer.

You…don't?, he couldn't believe his own ears., But-but you saw what I did yesterday?, he released some breath from his nostrils as his shoulders dropped., You…saw what I was capable of.

Mmm-hmm., his classmate nodded.

I did. You were really cool., she stated simply.

He then became stunned.

Cool., he reprised., You think I'm…cool?

Of course., Juleka nodded once again., I mean the way you could make objects float like that, then make the lights go flicker, that was awesome.

Nathanael just stared at her for a couple of minutes before his orbs looked away while his mind went into deep thought, wondering of how someone on Earth could potentially find something that seemed as if straight out a horror movie as "cool".

His pupils simply just wandered around astonished.

Ok then., he blankly returned.

After a while Juleka crested an eyebrow upward.

What is a mage anyway?, she inquired.

The boy looked at her.

Mages., Nathanael started., Mages are…people who basically perform spells and other magic things. Kind of like witches and wizards actually.

Oh., replied Juleka., Did you learn that from you're moms too?

Well yeah., his cerulean orbs shifted to his left., But even if they didn't went into details, I kind of already know of what a mage should be. Mostly from video game lores but more because I read it from a comic.

A comic., she repeated in her mind, remembering of how he already used that elucidation before back when describing the differences between hags and witches.

She then abruptly recalled that she still had something she promised she would do once she met the redhead today.

Juleka grabbed her bag, looked around to check if anyone was watching, then motioning for the boy to come closer.

You really should see this.

Despite her low volume, Nathanael could tell the urgency of the topic based on his tone.

It wasn't long before she started unzipping her school bag. Then…

*Inhale* Finally!

The redhaired male looked bewilderedly at the creature he was seeing.

A small skinned humanoid with insect like wings hovering in front of his eyes.

Zelena., spoke Juleka., This is Nathanael, my classmate. Nathanael., she said as if she was unsure if she should actually be doing this., This here is Zelena, she's a-

Sprite., he finished.

Juleka immediately turned utterly surprise by that, wondering on just how he could possibly know that.

Either she was the only person who would confuse a sprite for a fairy or he just simply knew what the differences was. She doubted it was the former though, as she considered that her knowledge of pop culture was enough to be aware that even it confuses the two fantastic creatures with each other.

She was even completely certain that Rose, a literal fairytale fanatic, would also call a sprite a fairy.

So she eventually concluded that it would have to be the later then.

However, with it arises another deep question.

Just what kind of comic does this guy even read?, the dark haired girl wondered.

See!, exclaimed Zelena while turning around to Juleka., he knows., she gestured one of her arms towards him while irritated.

Juleka just stayed quiet, not even caring of what the sprite had just said just now.

After that the tiny being looked back towards the redhaired boy, who was still quite stunned after seeing her pop right out of Juleka's backpack.

The sprite fixed her hair, cleared her throat, then she fixed her dress.

Hi there., she extended her arm., I'm sorry, but is this how you guys say hello?

He didn't spoke so she simply took that as a yes.

Well anyway, Zelena continued., you must be the mage. Hi. I am Zelena, but your familiar already told you that, didn't she., she chuckled.

Familiar?, Nathanael asked unsurely.

Yeah, that's what she keeps calling me., explained the sailor's daughter., But I don't really know why? I never even recall ever meeting her till today.

That's not what I meant you know., said the sprite girl.

Juleka looked at her dumbfounded.

That's not?

No., interrupted Nathanael., She probably meant like the" creature" familiar.

There are creatures that call themselves as…familiars?

Yeah., Nathanael confirmed with a nod., Their mostly known as the servants of wizards, but at times they could also take on the role as the witch's teachers, overall though, their most primary purpose in life is to devote themselves to their wizards' well-being.

The girl with purple streaks pondered, now beginning to understand.

Ok., she commented., So they serve guys like you then.

Nathanael was taken aback, now realizing that she had a point.

Yeah. Guess you could say that?

His mood quickly dropped once he remembered of another fact regarding about familiars.

He drenched at the possibility.

Also., the boy hesitated to proceed., another thing to know about familiars is that…, he looked at Juleka before looking away.

So hand over your familiar to me now!, the hag's words suddenly begun ringing in his head.

is that their usually presented as shapeshifters.

Shapeshifters.

The Couffaine's coppers grew.

Shapeshifters., for some odd reason, that word had somehow tasted weird to her., So they change shape?

He nodded.

That's cool., her voice was now shaking., What do they shapeshift into?

Anything., the male replied., cats, dogs, frogs, owls, rats,… mice.

The girl tensed.

But-but I'm not saying that you're a familiar of course., he tried to assure her., I'm just trying to suggest a possibility, that's all.

The girl however only proceeded to look down, tightening her left hand into a fist.

Freak!

Wait, I don't get it., questioned the little sprite., So, you're not a familiar?

She was caught off guard by the sound of Zelena's inquiry.

Juleka looked at the creature, her mind in complete confusion.

I…I don't know. Yes. Maybe? I'm not sure.

Zelena became even more puzzled as she turned back to the redhead.

So she's not your familiar then?

Before Nathanael could answer, the sprite then suddenly clasped both of her hands together.

Oh I get it!, she exclaimed., You're still thinking whether you should hire her aren't you?

What?, this at least brought Juleka back from her worries as both her and her classmate questioned simultaneously.

Yeah, that makes so much sense now, after all I have heard on how picky mages can be whenever it came into choosing a familiar, plus that would also kinda explain on why she doesn't live in the same roof as you do. She's still technically an applicant.

Both just stared at her speechless.

I-I'm sorry. But I believe you are mista-

The sprite interrupted him before he could finish.

However, if you were to ask for my advice., the sprite turned around to wink at Juleka before turning back., then I would say just hire her already., she proudly nodded while placing her arms to her chest., Look I know I'm no mage obviously but I've been known for my great judgement in character from where I'm from. I get it, I know she could be a little hard to hear, and her taste in fashion are indeed quite questionable.

E-Excuse me?

But I can tell that she's a good person, and she very well seems to be honest and loyal. Perhaps that's not the type you've been looking for, but trust me, that's definitely likely what you would need when fighting off against another wanted criminal, if you know what I mean?

She lightly nudges his arm playfully (despite her small size), but all Nathanael could think about were the last parts of her sentence.

Wanted – criminals?, he questioned.

Yeah., delighted the sprite., Like I already told your friend over here, I've seen on how you battled Granny Spooks and how you won! It was amazing!

The creature cheered before her expression changed drastically to a serious one.

Which, is also why, I'm here to ask, please, please help me in saving Trocadero!

Trocadero?

Its my home. And my people have been living there for years. But now, now we might be forced to move out. So please, please I beg you oh valiant warrior, please help me-help us, save our home.

The sprite appeared frightened and worried after she said that.

Nathanael glance towards Juleka who in turn shook her head as to say she had no clue either.

He then focused towards the sprite.

Tell us everything.

And then she told them, describing of how there was a rival group that wanted the public park all to themselves with her people out. She didn't go through all the details though as she only told all them of what she thought were the most important parts.

Not to mention of the fact that she kept on becoming distracted by the most random of things, and with a hallway where a diverse number of people were passing by, it was a case.

She mentioned that there were actually two kind of sprites, woodling sprites and water sprites, and how basically the two types never really got along. She told of how the feud had now escalated to the point where the other group threatened that if her people wouldn't leave tonight, then their people would surely suffer the consequences.

What the consequence exactly were however, even she didn't know herself.

All she knew was that her people did not deserve to leave their own territory, which was how she was ultimately compelled to act on her own by searching for someone who could help in fighting the water sprites for them.

To which she actually had been doing all day yesterday as she already explained, until she eventually stumbled upon them when she was searching around Pont de Mars last night.

To say Nathanael was flabbergasted to learn that someone was actually there watching him was a bit of an understatement while Juleka on the other hand was kind of shocked after listening to her story, now fully understanding of why the sprite was so eager to ask for aid.

Of course Nathanael was stunned by that part too, but still-

So will you help me?, Zelena pleaded, bringing the pondering boy to return.

He looked at the small tiny specimen before looking away.

I-I don't know., he said., I mean-WOAH-that's a pretty big problem you have there, I'm-I'm not really so sure if I'm perfect for the job.

He then looked straightly at the winged girl.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not cut out for that kind of role.

The boy told.

I apologize for your time.

Silence fell back from where they were until the sprite girl spoke again.

But-but you have to., Zelena had now begged., Please. Please. You have to help. We don't have much time left in our hands. The water sprites will come for us tonight! My home, my people's home. Please!

He avoided glancing at the sprite, knowing well that it wouldn't do him any good. He truly did felt sorry for her, especially after just listening to her story. Nathanael could only imagine what she might have gone through. But despite all that however, he knew he couldn't be much of assistance, he was after all, was weak.

He hated admitting that.

While he was feeling guilt for himself, the other individual, Juleka, still sitting at her side of the bench, gazed down after now becoming more aware about the extend of Zelena's woes. Truly, her cry for aid was no small issue, that's for certain. It made her situation extensively more difficult, if not, down right hard.

On the one hand she sympathized, but on the other she was confused.

She was asking them to fight! If that wasn't a regular occurrence in her life, she didn't know what was.

Perhaps waking up as a rodent?

She shook that.

*Sigh*

Why was everything suddenly turning complicated?, she frustratedly cried in her head.

Zelena needed the help of a true fighter, not some emotionally broken teenager.

She required better, but that better wasn't her.

Juleka already felt terrible as she knew the creature would be disappointed. However, reality was still-well- reality. And she had to hear that.

They can't be of help.

She took a deep heavy breath, then mentally prepared herself for what's to come.

Juleka then embraced as she started opening her mouth, however, before the girl could even manage to deliver the bad news, her male classmate seemed to have already beat her to it.

I'm sorry. I'm really-really sorry.

He didn't know on what else to say.

But why?, questioned the green skinned and green haired female, her tone tired, probably from all the disappointing apologies she kept receiving., Is-is it because your concerned that we won't be able to pay? Because if that is I'll be more than happy to offer in a huge sum of the juiciest of fruits and the prettiest of flowers. I'll-I'll even become your own personal gardener.

Nathanael looked down.

That's not it-

Then what's it?!

She now shouted, likely due to stress.

You two kept on saying this, kept on saying that, when I know, as I saw from my own two eyes, that the both of you are more than capable of handling this! You outlasted an insane hag and an army of shadow people! What other reason is there for you to not help a bunch of innocence?!

Nathanael began turning even way more shameful.

You see-

The sprite cut him off again, her expression and mood now softening as she calmed.

Please. Please. I really-really beg of you, of valiant hero. Please, help my people.

Hero., that one echoed in his mind frame, his entire form suddenly being taken aback.

Hero., he repeated once more.

As he sat there stiffed after hearing such a word, and be referred by such word, caused the redhead to go silent as he thought and pondered. Him, a hero? That claim is so ironic it was laughable, truly how ironic could things even get?

But despite that, however, it also somehow made the gears inside his brain to begin turning to a different direction.

It was stupid, that much he knew was accurate. How possibly low could a person get to re-evaluate his answer simply because he was called something such as that?

It was absurd! Not to mention downright silly.

But even still, to re-evaluate and re-consider he did.

Nathanael wasn't sure what went through him (or perhaps he did) but whatever the case was, it definitely was too late to back down now. For in the moment he started to open his mouth once again, was also the moment he knew he'll regret.

Drastically.

Alright., he said in a fast pace that the two females had barely comprehended.

Alright., he said once more., I'll do it. I'll help.

Juleka became surprised by his sudden change in mind while as Zelena clasp her hands in joy.

Oh thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

He pretended to smile back as the sprite continued to thank him, cheering.

Yup. Definitely no turning back.

As the sprite gleefully celebrated on Nathanael finally agreeing to lend a hand, she then so suddenly stopped, halted, then turning around curiously and puzzledly towards the dark haired girl who had brought her there in the first place.

How about you?

The girl jumped as she shot surprised eyes at the other female.

She looked at her then at Nathanael, shifting glances from one to another. She observed as she saw Zelena looking ecstatic while as Nathanael appeared a little bit distressed and unsure. Juleka gazed at the both of them, realizing now that both individuals had now agreed for a common cause with each while she on the other hand still hadn't made a decision.

Her mind was in jumbles, a cluttered mess in need of desperate cleaning. Various thoughts went here and there causing an internal conflict inside her braincells.

On the one hand she pitied Zelena, but on the other she was afraid.

After the incidents of last night, and all the near deaths she almost (and did) experienced, Juleka simply just didn't wish to gamble with her fate again.

However upon once more glancing at the two people she was with presently right now, staring at her all while expecting for her answer, made her to feel uneased, particularly due to sensing the emergence of one of her least favorite scenarios.

Peer pressure.

She grew immediately uncomfortable.

Juleka then gazed at them one last time with their eyes just staring at her waitingly with that awful sensation still penetrating her emotions.

It wasn't long until she could no longer withstand the feeling and gave in.

Sure., was the word that escaped her mouth.

Upon hearing that, Zelena had grown even more ecstatic and giddy, quickly flying to her as she tried to embrace one of her arms.

Oh thank you! Thank you so much!

She stopped from her hug as she turned back to the redhaired boy.

Both of you.

Zelena then flew to her original position, a wide gleeful smile on her face while as she turned her head to the both of them.

Alright then. There's no time to loose., the sprite told., Let's go now!

However, just before she could fly away, she was immediately interrupted by Juleka.

But we can't.

She turned confusedly at her fellow female.

Huh?

Nathanael then explained.

She's right. School isn't over yet.

Oh., the sprite girl now realized before returning to her state of optimism., That's ok. I'll go on ahead my self to tell everyone about both of your arrival.

The two simultaneously flinched.

Uh… I don't think that's a good ide-

But before the artist could finish the sprite once more interrupted him.

Alright then, that's settles it. I'll just meet you guys back at Trocadero, ok?

But-

See you at Trocadero!

She then finally flew at an extremely fast pace, easily avoiding the attentions of people as she disappeared from their visions, leaving only the two of them behind.

They stared ahead of themselves as that was where Zelena had left, until finally snapping out of their trance and started speaking once again.

I guess that was something., Juleka spoke first.

Nathanael just nodded in response.

The two paused for a moment before they continued.

So, what do you have in mind then?

Huh?

Juleka looked surprisedly at him.

You mean you agreed with her without having any plans?

Umm…

The girl sighed while slapping herself softly on the face with one of her hands.

You got to be joking right?

Nathanael looked awkwardly.

Well…at least we still have time?

The girl sighed once more.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

He then gazed his orbs directly at her.

What about you then, why did you agree?

She quickly avoided eye contact.

Peer pressure.

What?

N-nothing.

Juleka's cheeks grew slightly red.

Please don't look at me like that., she sheepishly asked., Besides, we still have to think of what we're going to do later.

He obliged with her while nodding, then focusing onto her again as he questioned-

So, any ideas?

The dark haired girl begun pondering, cresting both of her brows while her mind went deeply into thought. With simply just in a span of a few seconds, the girl sighed thoroughly as she covered her eyes and spoke. A certain thought abruptly manifested itself.

How should I know? I'm not even so sure of what I am anymore.

Juleka told in a painful expression, shoulders dropping as she recalled the earlier proposed idea that she was possibly something "not all human'.

She dreaded that idea.

After hearing what she said, Nathanael immediately felt guilty, knowing well what she feels while also knowing that he was the sole cause of how such a pain was inflicted upon her. How he regreted ever saying that, especially since after just wishing for such a probability to become false.

The term "terrible" doesn't justify on describing of what he was feeling right about now.

The two of them then sat quietly once more, allowing the silence this time around to take over.

Juleka sighed heavily with a twisted feeling inside her gut, an influx of negative emotions swirling inside of her.

Truly, there was nothing doubting it now.

She really was a freak.

A stupid, ugly, worthless, good for nothing freak.

And anything denying it has now been proven wrong.

Oh why must everything despise her so much?

She balled one of her hands into a fist as she rested them to her forehead, via slightly into the right.

You're the one with the magical moms right?, she said depressedly., Can't you just…talk to them…or something?

By then, after hearing what Juleka had just proposed, Nathanael's expression slowly started to brighten, as if a whole new thought had just registered in his head. His eyes widened as his body slowly straightened.

I got it., he murmured.

Upon hearing that, Juleka looked at him confusedly.

I know what we're going to do., he told her., We're going to show up at Trocadero tonight and save Zelena's people.

The girl tilted her head as one of her brows raised.

How?

Just then, the school bell rang, and was then followed by the sudden sounds of collective footsteps and chattering voices while at the same time accompanied by people heading back to their classes.

Just leave everything to me., he assured with a serious face and tone. His mind clearly in deep thought.

School had now just finished as a certain redhaired illustrator had just arrived home.

I'm home., he called out, but he didn't receive any responses after that.

He sighed gladly, satisfied at the fact that neither of his mothers weren't home as well. After all, although he no longer held as much of a grudge towards them, he still didn't have the heart to talk to them either. Being lied to for so long wasn't something that could easily be forgiven, even if he did now understand most parts of why exactly they chose to do that. However, with the lingering idea that they were keeping something regarding his parents hidden from him, he'd rather just spend his time being alone for a while, it was after all a really eventful day, and he needed to rest before heading to Trocadero.

But before he could do that-

He checked his surroundings one last time, eyeing directly towards a certain door.

His mother's bedroom.

Despite knowing that he was alone presently, he still made the effort to walk his way quietly and cautiously, simply for safety's sake.

When he finally reached the said door, the boy slowly raised his hand and touched the doorknob, but just when he was about to turn it, he suddenly heard a voice speaking.

Need something?

Nathanael jumped due to shock and surprise as he turned around instinctively towards the voice's source.

Immediately his eyes were met by a black furred cat looking boredly at him while sitting on top of the sofa's back rest.

Of course, he forgot about the talking feline.

Shadow…

If you are looking for your moms, their probably still at the jewelry shop. You should head there.

It was still a little weird for him to see the more "sentient" side of Shadow, it was as if he was staring at a completely different cat than the one he grew up with. It was kind of as if he was facing at an actual person (well technically he always did considered Shadow as a person, but not a person person!)

A few more seconds ticked by until Nathanael realized that he had actually been staring distantly prior to shaking his head back into focus. He then returned his mind onto Shadow once again as the cat only gazed at him with his usual uncaring face.

O-oh, umm…, Nathanael tried to find an excuse before the feline cut him off.

That is of course, hummed the black cat., if that is your intention?

His eyes then widened, he knew then and there that Shadow had caught him red handed.

H-how did you-

I already know you well enough to study your mind most of the time. However I must say that it isn't quite like you to sneak into your mothers' bedroom. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Nathan. What would your mothers say?

From those words, sudden boiling anger fortuitously grew inside the boy. His eyebrows cresting as his teeth clenched.

What would they say?, he asked bitterly., Why should I care about what they would say? They've been lying to me for YEARS! IF ANYTHING, I'M THE ONE WHO SHOULD BE SAYING SOMETHING!, he placed one of his hands to his chest., I'M THE ONE WHO SHOULD BE SCREAMING AND SHOUTING MY THOUGHTS OUT!

Ah, now there's the Nathan I know., the cat suddenly beamed., Oh, and could you please stop with that, its really quite annoying actually., he said pointing up the ceiling.

It was then that Nathanael had now realized that the lights were flickering and he immediately tried to calm himself just to stop it.

He still really needed to get used to that.

Once he managed to have stopped the lightbulbs from behaving funnily, he turned his attention back onto Shadow, this time a bit more at eased.

I'm sorry.

If cats could roll their pupils, Nathanael was pretty certain that Shadow was doing it right now.

So, started the house pet., care to explain?

Nathanael avoided the feline's green orbs, shifting his eyes towards various directions in a speeded manner, acting sheepish.

W-well, I um…, he tried to form the proper sentence to say., I just…need something.

The animal blinked before chuckling.

Typical of young mages, always acting as if it was the end of the world at first, then they go and search for magic ones they realize its uses.

That's not really-

Say no more., Shadow then yawned, then stretched, then the feline leaped off from the backrest he had just been previously sitting on. He made another stretch before walking his way towards Nathanael.

Well? What are you waiting for? Open the door already.

Nathanael became surprised before he obliged while still having a rather confused mind.

It's been a really long day.

The boy then finally opened the door, allowing for both him and Shadow to enter.

The room itself appeared rather typical, nothing magical, mystical, or out of the ordinary. Then again he never really expected any of that, he had been to their rooms plenty of times before, especially back when he was still a kid having nightmares about monsters, croque-mitaine, or gruesome images of-

He quickly shook that thought out.

The room had white wallpapers designed with dot like markings as an aesthetic. There were decorations of pictures, paintings, and a drawing he made for them as a present for their anniversary once. There were chairs, furnitures, a large bed, some drawers (one of which was attached to a mirror), and a green carpet. The entire room was illuminated by a closed window not that far from their bed.

As he looked around he wondered on where the magic stuff could be hiding (that is assuming if there was any (he hoped)).

He shifted eyes almost towards everywhere, but couldn't find any that fits in what he was hoping.

Everything just seems…normal?

As he wandered his gazes, the cat jumped from the wooden floor and onto the bed as he sat.

Alright then, back onto business., Shadow spoke, catching Nathanael's attention., I'd like 10 cans of sausages every week for 5 months.

What?, that caught him by surprise.

You want me to help you, do you?

Nathanael then widened his eyes, never did it ever occur to him that he would negotiate with a cat in his entire lifetime.

So what do you say?

He shook his head.

But that's too much.

Take it or leave it.

He furrowed his brows.

-1 week.

2 months.

-5 weeks.

-A month and a half.

-1 month., then Nathanael sighed., and I'll throw in a can of salmon too.

Shadow thought about it for a minute before eventually he agreed.

Two salmons.

Fine., he answered bitterly.

Then it's a deal then., the feline brightened happily.

Nathanael just sighed again, still having a hard time just thinking what he just done.

Ok, now you got what you want., the boy said irritably., Can you please just do your end of the bargain already?

The cat just simply appeared relaxed and satisfied as he let out another extremely brief chortle before pointing at a certain direction.

Open that bottom drawer over there., he directed to the teenager.

Nathanael looked perplexed before following in the feline's instruction. He walked his way, kneeled down, then pulled the said drawer open.

When he gleaned he saw a number of different jewelry, necklaces, rings, bracelets, and many others more of that kind.

He wasn't surprise to find so much jewelry, his mothers ran a jewelry shop for a living, what baffled him is how a bunch of accessories were supposed to help him aid Zelena.

He turned his head towards Shadow with a frustrated face, giving him a growl.

The feline simply seemed unfazed as he blinked prior to continuing.

You said you wanted magic., he elucidated., So, there you go.

Nathanael glanced back to the drawer then returned to the little domesticated animal.

How are this supposed to be magic?

The cat just gave him a look until suddenly the boy's eyes went bigger with realization.

You mean-

Yup.

He gazed back to the number of jewelry, this time with bewilderment.

Those very same jewels his mothers made, those jewels they would sometimes leave at various places around the house, those jewels he would sometimes sketch during his free time were in fact magic. (at least some of them probably)

This…are magic., he spoke in shock.

Yup.

As he wondered through the various collection of jewelry, another revelation hit him right on the head.

All this time, all this time he may have very well been living surrounded by enchanted jewels, hiding in plain sight, without even his knowledge.

You ok?

That pulled him back as he quickly shook his head.

Though he failed to respond, Shadow knew that he was fine.

He then started to lick himself on the left side of his back, still remaining not much of a care.

Grab the one that looks like a star, the one with the big stone at the center along with the bunch of smaller stones surrounding it.

He nodded.

He did as he was told as he began searching for the jewel that fitted Shadow's description, and soon enough he achieved in finding it.

As he took it and grabbed it on his hand, he inspected the object that was told more keenly.

He studied its designs. A necklace that was like a sun or a star, a circle with many points at every side of it. On it was as Shadow described, a big stone at the center with many smaller ones decorating it, making it seem like a solar system or a planet with various moons. All the smaller stones were brownish-dark in color, with the only exception being of course the largest one, and the one at the top most part which were both orange rather than darkish-brown. He looked curiously at the details.

That is a Wishing Star., the cat stated, causing the young boy to look at him.

Your moms sell those things during New Years., he explained., If you noticed there are twelve small stones surrounding the big one, those twelve are supposed to represent all the twelve months of the year while the one big one is supposed to symbolize the very year itself.

When he heard that, Nathanael couldn't help but smile, not at all surprised by his mothers' creativity in designing their craft.

Yeah, those things are certainly one of their best., the cat commented., Every year tons of people come flocking to their shop just to get one of those babies.

He then questioned that claim as he looked curiously at him.

If their so big? How come I never saw such a thing? I've been to their shop during New Years too you know?

The cat simply just laughed as he vaguely answered-

I'm not talking about that shop.

Nathanael's eyebrows rose by that respond before gazing back at the jewel in hand.

But even so, how is this supposed to help me?

The feline let out another brief chortle.

It's in the name.

What?

Wishing Star. Its in the name. It's supposed to grant wishes.

The redhead then understood.

So, its supposed to grant any wishes?

So long of course if it isn't too big, the wishing magic imbued within it aren't really that powerful, so that was why they were allowed to even sell it in the first place., he explained., In addition it could only do it for at least twelve times, although I can't really see it, I think your supposed to know on how many times it's been used based on how many ones are still bright in color.

That was when Nathanael keenly observed the jewel once again, seeing now as of why only one was still orange.

So, will this do?, asked the fury animal.

He stared at the necklace in hand a few more seconds, thinking, before turning back to his friend.

Yeah, this will do. Thanks.

But would they notice when they find out its gone?

The cat shrugged.

Don't worry, the thing is a prototype, they always keep all their prototypes inside that drawer, so I guarantee that they wouldn't even care.

The boy's bright mood was then quickly replaced with one of puzzlement.

Aren't you going to ask of why I need this?

The cat continued licking itself.

Meh.

Yup., Nathanael thought., That's the same old Shadow alright.

The artist took one last glance at the jewel before holding it more tightly.

Well, I think I should get ready.

Just a moment., Shadow paused him., 7 salmons.

What?

You don't want me to tell your mothers do you?, he taunted him.

The redhead couldn't believe he was doing this again, that was, until he took notice of how only one stone was presently orange, causing his curiosity to take over.

How come only one of this is orange?

The cat flinched.

This didn't went unnoticed by Nathanael, much to Shadow's unfortune circumstance.

And isn't helping me supposed to make you guilty too?

The cat flinched again.

And aren't you supposed to be on a diet?

You know what, Shadow already stopped the settling mage before he could go anymore further., Maybe 2 salmons are enough after all.

He then quickly hopped off the bed then hurriedly ran his four legs towards the exit.

But that's it!, was the last thing he heard him say before he finally left.

Nathanael chuckled at his triumph against him, despite practically still owing him a total of 9 cans of sausages and salmons for every week for an entire month, but he guessed it was fine, he still did help him after all, perhaps it was still possible to stretch his allowance.

Once he glanced back to the door, he shook his head at Shadow.

Cats are such glutz.

Night fell upon the city as always. Buildings and streetlamps activating their lights in order to illuminate the fine evening.

From the road a girl rode on her bike, still appearing unsure with her decision as she continued the now dark path.

After classes were done for the day, she had an absolute horrid time just thinking about the idea of her being "not all human". Those were hours she could never return back.

Freak! Freak! Freak!, how she was already tired with that chant.

Eventually as she contemplated, she finally spotted her destination from view and peddled there, mentally preparing herself for what might come ahead.

When she entered the public gardens through peddling slowly, her eyes quickly caught a glimpse of her fellow peer who had apparently already arrived earlier. He in question, was standing there, probably awaiting either her or Zelena to show up. Her classmate was standing next to his own bicycle while seemingly being preoccupied while having his phone in hand. He also seemed to be rather annoyed by it too.

Yes moms, he whined, his shoulders and back dropping sluggishly while as he tried to explain himself to the person or persons, his conversing with., I know should have declined their requests but you know on how persistent Marc's family can be.

It wasn't though as if she was nosey or that she was a habitual eavesdropper, but with the entire area devoid of people and with only them causing disruption upon the quietness in the park, it was really difficult for her to not overhear.

Yes, I know this is a really a bad time to have dinner at someone else's., he paused for a few seconds as Juleka heard some incoherent chattering.

And yes, I know I shouldn't even be out of at nights., he rubbed both of his eyelids to relieve him from the stress he was experiencing right now.

After a while, as Juleka got off her bike and started to walk near him, she suddenly noticed him easing up as he began nodding his head.

Mmm. Mmm. Hmm. Yeah. I promise to keep myself in check.

He shut his eyes, and with one final nod, he took his gadget off his ear and deactivated it, then sighed.

You ok?

He quickly jumped once he heard that then he turned around. It was only there when he noticed her presence.

Juleka., he held one of his hands to his chest as if he just had a heart attack.

The dark haired girl offered him a smile before she looked towards the phone that was still on his other hand.

Nathanael followed her gaze, and quickly deduced of what he was implying.

My moms., he answered, irritation found within his tone., I told them I was late working on a comic at Marc's place.

So, you didn't tell them?, the girl inquired with a hint of surprise in her voice.

The redhead chortled at that.

If I told them where I really am and what I'm doing, they would most probably have forbidden me from going here at all.

Juleka tilted her head at what her acquaintance had said, but made no attempt in questioning him any further, instead she simply just accepted at what she received despite not getting it.

How bout' you? He then subtly asked, surprising the poor girl., What's your excuse?

Excuse me?

Excuse?, he repeated himself in order to clarify., You did made up an excuse right?

Oh., she now understood.

I, told them that I was helping one of my classmates on something.

Nathanael was astonished at her answer.

You do realize that's pretty much more or lest of an excuse, right?

I had to., she depressedly answered back again, releasing a breath while gazing away from him, once more feeling a little guilty for her deception on them.

The teenaged boy just stared at her as he made an "o" on his orals, he then later began placing one hand by his hip while his other was awkwardly rubbing the back of his hair.

And there, just like back at Francoise Dupont, silence that was deafening fell on them once again. Neither one of the two shared a word with the other after that, the overwhelming sensation of nervousness simultaneously seeping through all the parts of their forms.

It just felt so unnatural for them to be talking so casually, as if they were actual friends.

The silence between them had only managed to seize once another party came into the scene, approaching them with a cheery voice.

There you guys are., she gleefully called as she came, circling around them before she paused, stopped, then hovered at the same level as to their gazes.

Hurry, there is no time to loose., her attitude quickly changed from that of glad to that of extreme worry., We need to get there now!

She then flew and lead the way, with both peers following suit.

They went into the parts where the trees roamed, walking the grassy landscape while letting the sprite lead their way.

It was quiet once again as they continued their steps. Nathanael wandered his eyes at where they were, taking note of how different the gardens slightly looked to his view at dark. It was hard to imagine that this was the same public park he had been on many occasions, especially now realizing how large the Trocadero gardens actually were. It was now as if he was taking a stroll at an actual forest, for although he could still clearly see that it was still a park, the part where he was now stepping on unfamiliar grounds made it seem as if he was about to step into another world, uncharted territories, just awaiting discovery and exploration.

He wondered on whether he did actually step into some kind of vortex without his knowledge, or whether this setting had always been there, and he simply just never noticed it.

It was a strange feeling to have if the answer turned out to be the later, making him ponder on how much things he did not know about the things he already knew. What are the mysteries outside his daily attentions, and what stuff goes on within the realm that tries to hide from his visions.

What are the things that goes on beyond his notice.

Ever been here before?, as if she was reading his mind, Juleka abruptly asked with her usual monotonous voice, causing Nathanael to look at her. It was obvious she just wanted to rid the unnerving silence through making small talk, despite her own nervousness to speak. He decided to just go with her in this one.

No., he simply stated., Have you?

No., she returned back, shaking her head in the process., But it is calming though.

Nathanael nodded as he agreed, the trees really did gave off a feeling of serenity. And considering the past few days, they truly needed that serenity, no matter what shape the package came to be.

After a while, Nathanael turned his attentions to the sprite girl who was leading them, and decided to ask some questions with her, just to pass the time while they were still walking.

Hey!, he called out, and the sprite immediately responded by looking at him while still proceeding towards their destination.

Huh?

Seeing his opportunity, he then asked-

Any ideas yet about, you know, the water sprites?!

The girl's pupils slightly went down as her pace slowed.

No. Sadly no.

The redhead sighed, his one hand wandering to his right pocket.

How long have you been at feud with the water sprites?, now it was Juleka's turn to question as she directed her copper gaze at Zelena.

Zelena appeared curious as she made her own question.

Come again?

The girl sighed.

Of course., she complained internally.

Fortunately the sprite decided to come down to her while remaining to continue straight ahead.

I said, Juleka repeated., how long have you been at feud with the water sprites?

Zelena opened her mouth, then appeared thoughtful, placing her left hand under her tiny chin.

I…actually don't know honestly., she told them while her mind was still contemplating for the answer., It's just been like this since I was very young, since…I could even remember, possibly even before I was even born.

Have you ever asked., the cerulean eyed boy inquired.

I did actually., she nodded., But in truth, I don't think anyone, even the Elder, remembers of how our people first started fighting. I personally just think it's something that's always been.

Why's that?

Because it has always been, at least in my point of view., the green haired girl stated.

The other girl with long dark hair then began to wonder.

If that's the case, how come we've only started to hear about it now?, Juleka asked., I mean, surely, if your groups have been fighting for that long, then we should be hearing news about random damages frequently occurring here at Trocadero, and yet only now have you guys taken drastic measures to take down the other?

Nathanael, who was listening, couldn't help but agree with Juleka's point, if small fights between individuals don't necessarily usually end cleanly, then how much between two entire groups? It just seems logical that Trocadero should be receiving a reputation for daily damages caused by they're fighting. And yet, that wasn't the case at all.

Zelena,, still meditating on the question, narrowed her brows while her mind went deep.

Well, now that you mentioned it., Zelena detailed., I've…been told stories of how both our peoples managed to have relatively co-existed.

They did?

Zelena nodded her head.

Though it wasn't said to have been a peaceful co-existence, it was still at least better than what our current relationships are today., she was still at deep thought., I believe it was said to have all been thanks to the old Sorcerer.

Sorcerer?

Zelena smiled before nodding once again.

Yeah. The old Sorcerer. Though I never met him, I have heard plenty of stories about him. It was told that back then, the Sorcerer would act as a sort of diplomat for both our sides, it was through his efforts that tolerance was at least possible. Honestly, I really wish that he was still around though, I would have really loved to have met him.

Their conversation paused for a couple of moments before eventually starting over again.

Sorcerer., Juleka pondered, she then looked to Nathanael and questioned-

Isn't that just another word for what you are?

Nathanael then thought about it, remembering the fact of how he was informed of the list of synonyms of what he was supposed to be. Mages, witches, wizards, cunning folks, it was very much likely that the term "sorcerer" would also make it into the list too. However, just before he could answer her back, Zelena spoke up prior to him.

We're here!, she suddenly cried out, flying around gleefully up upon branch level as she circled.

Juleka and Nathanael had only appeared confused by her sudden action. They looked around their environment, only becoming even more baffled. For the area in which they were right now had appeared rather "regular".

Despite their previous initial thoughts about the vastness of the Trocadero gardens, the mundaness of the scenery where the sprite had taken them had just looked ordinary. If ever anyone else were to stroll around and to abruptly stumble upon this same area, there was no doubt they would simply just view the place as nothing special while continuing on their own merry way.

Subtly, Zelena started clapping her hands loudly while yelling at the upper parts of the trees.

Its ok everyone!, she cried out., They're with me! They're the ones that I've been talking about!

Then, unexpectedly, from all of a sudden, the leaves and branches begun to glow with various orbs of light, each with different numbers of colors ranging from not only green, but also yellow, orange, red, violet, and even indigo.

It was a scenery as if taken straight out of a fantasy movie, from typical to wonderous, a beautiful night scene that suddenly sprang with life.

Soon, after the two then took noticed that the glowing orbs begun to approach closer, and once they did, they both saw of what the entities actually were much more clearer.

Sprites, just like Zelena, those glowing orbs of light had actually been sprites. Small, humanoid, with insect like wings, strange little people of various inhuman skin and hair colors, looking at the them rather warily while others instead appeared suspicious.

Is this still Trocadero?, the two simultaneously asked within their respective minds, their eyes at pure astonishment.

They were silent, but this time not out of awkwardness or nervousness but simply due to the marvel brought forth by the display that was surrounding them.

Then soon after, the familiar sprite girl flew nearer to the two beholded teens with a welcoming smile drawn on her face.

Welcome, to our humble little hamlet., Zelena said while making a rather dramatic yet respectful bow., I know it doesn't seem much-

Seem much?, Nathanael interrupted., Zelena, your home is incredible!

Cool., commented Juleka while making a nod.

Well, I'm glad you guys like it., she smiled warmly with her hands behind her back.

Has this place seriously always been here?, exclaimed the redheaded boy, still marveling at the sight., Oh I wish I had my sketchbook right now. Maybe I could get a picture-

That! You shall certainly not do!

Suddenly came the voice of another, speaking with an aura of authority.

When they turned they saw another sprite, slowly flying down to where they stood. He appeared old, a man peering at them with narrowed brows. Like Zelena, his skin was too in the color of green. He carried a small stick which to him looked like a staff. His scalp barely had hair, and his face was covered by a moderate sized pale-green beard.

He also wore what seemed like a robe.

The moment that the old man came, all other sprites looked to him intently, including Zelena, who now showed signs of anxiousness.

It was obvious that whoever this sprite was, clearly held some form of high respect from his community.

Zelena!, his voice called.

Zelena in question had stiffened before completely facing towards the old sprite's presence.

Y-yes Elder? Sir?

The old sprite glared at her, then towards to the two Francoise students, then returning back to the sprite girl.

Come here., the sprite spoke commandingly.

The girl, despite a bit shaking, obliged to the old sprite's order and flew towards him.

The man simply stared at her observingly before releasing a frustrated sound while covering his eyes with one of his hands.

What have you done this time., though his sentence seemed like a question, the way he delivered had appeared more like something he had already expected, but irritated nevertheless.

Elder!

Elder!

Two more sprites then came in, one male, and one female, both seemed older than that of Zelena, yet younger compared to the elderly sprite with the greenish-white beard. They both flew in in front of Zelena, as if covering her from the senior.

They both showed pleading eyes while facing the bearded sprite.

Elder. Please Elder.

She was just trying to help.

This sudden course of event had apparently annoyed Zelena, as clearly seen through her expression.

Mom. Dad. Enough., the green sprite girl struggled her way out of her parents' shielding as she once again faced the senior sprite.

Her expression showed nervousness in the presence of the authority figure, and for just a second she actually went silent just glancing at him before she cleared her throat, then mustered up the courage to speak.

Elder., she presented herself., This are the warriors I was talking to you about. They're going to help us in dealing with the water sprites.

Warriors?, both the non-sprites' questioned in their mind.

The Elder or so as he is called, glanced at them before quickly returning his pupils back to her.

Ridiculous., exclaimed the Elder, How could you expect for they to help us Zelena?

I saw them Elder., she told him., I saw them just the other night as they fought off against Granny Spooks. I have even watched them as they won!

From the moment she said that, both the acquaintances heard whispers and murmurings coming throughout everywhere.

Another wave of whispers then surfaced, but stopped just as immediately when the Elder raised his hand.

He sighed before looking back at Zelena.

Do you really expect me to believe that, Zelena?

But its true!, she exclaimed.

Zelena-

Elder-

Zelena!, the Elder snapped, forcing the girl to hush as she lowered her head.

The Elder, looking at Nathanael and Juleka again, threw his hands at them as a gesture for Zelena to pay attention to him.

Zelena. Have you at least tried letting these two poor children speak before you got them into our affairs?

Yes of course-

Without you constantly interrupting them in the process?

Zelena winced, probably from realization, then followed by uncertainty. A new wave of nervousness then developed from her.

Y-yes. At least, as far as I recall.

Zelena., he told her., If you had just rid yourself of that bad habit, you'll probably have learned that this two are actually still settling.

S-s-settling?, she repeated that word with an echo of dread., I-impossible. The-they can't be settling. I watched them, I watched them with my own two eyes.

She flew down to the both of them.

Tell me. Tell me that you're not actually settling.

The classmates threw their eyes to the ground.

Sorry., apologized Juleka.

We tried to tell you., followed by the young artist.

The girl then started to shake.

But-but Granny Spooks?

Actually-, explained the other girl with dark hair., that was honestly just a fluke.

A fluke?!, Zelena repeated in her mind, eyes widening out of horror at the moment she heard that. She then turned around, gazing as the other sprites looked at her in disappointment, including her own embarrassed parents.

She turned around directly to the Elder with a voice that was trying to explain herself.

I swear, I didn't know.

But the elderly sprite paid no attention to her, instead hovering himself down before the redhaired boy and dark haired girl.

I apologize in behalf of one of my own people for wasting both of your time., he shot Zelena a glare, much to her added humiliation., But you must go now immediately before-

Elder!, a new voice called and growled.

The incoming voice of a new individual suddenly appeared, and when all the crowd looked they saw even more sprites, but this time glowing in all different hues of blue while a small minority of them illuminated in white color instead.

The water sprites., Juleka heard Zelena whisper.

The one who spoke was a sprite with blue skin, appearing to about middle aged. The top part of his head was balding, and he also had a large apple belly at his middle section. He glared his eyes at the elder before continuing to speak.

I hope you and all your other tree hugging people made the right decision?!

We did!, the Elder responded., We're not leaving, my people are here to stay!

The water sprite who spoke scoffed at his answer.

Well, I guess that means that you made the wrong decision then, huh? What did I expect, this is what happens when you negotiate with a bunch of hippies.

All his fellow water sprites laughed. They continued on their laughing until eventually they all calmed down and quieted.

Ah that was fun., the water sprite said., But joke time is over. Now. Will you not leave?!

No.

The two leader figures shot death glares onto each other before the water sprite spoke again.

Then can't say that we didn't warn you!

He took in a deep breath before shouting.

Now!

Just then the very ground started shaking, accompanied by the loud sounds of what seemed like a stomping footsteps.

Nathanael then focused on where the loud footsteps seemed to be coming from and what he saw caused his heart to beat faster.

There, approaching slowly was the intimidating sight of a large green skinned giant humanoid, peering at all the woodling sprites with an unhappy look on his face.

The creature then bellowed, frightening the boy even more.

The leader of the water sprites smirked wickedly.
