Chapter 10: Beware the Brutal Green Giant

The ground below shook as the sounds of loud stomping footsteps approached nearer and nearer. Then, from the trees came in a creature of large proportion. A green giant, the sight of which could easily intimidate any woman or man who were unfortunate enough to stumble upon its presence.

Its complexion was green, its clothes were made from that of the skins of animals (most probably from a bear), its size towered for around the same height as some of the young trees, and when it glared, it sent auras of chills, causing for many of the woodling sprites to stumble back into fear.

But for Juleka on the other hand, she did not cower, how could she? She actually found the sight to be quite oddly fascinating, in fact she was possibly more marveled by the monster than she was with the breath- taking scenery with the sprites earlier.

Awesome., she blurted in her usual low volume, while her coppers were awestruck and glued at the creature, creeping a smile.

Mgragl! What is this?!, the Elder demanded.

The water sprite simply smirked.

Have you gone blind, Elder?! Can't you tell an ogre when you see one?!

I KNOW What An Ogre Looks like!, exclaimed the old sprite., What I'm asking is-

He pointed his staff to the foul fiend.

-why is one doing in here?!

We should be the ones asking you that?, spoke another water sprite, a female one.

Seems like we weren't the only ones who came up with this idea., sneered a male.

Their attentions then focused on towards Nathanael and Juleka, making the two teens flinch, but the Elder quickly flew in front of them defensively when he saw whom they were referring.

Leave this kids out of these!, he shouted., They are not part of our affairs!

And why should we believe you?!, yelled out the voice of another water sprite.

Yeah!, their leader agreed., For all we know, you're probably only just saying that to trick us!

I assure you! This is no trick!

Quiet!

Silence followed after.

Last chance you bunch of tree huggers!, he threatened., Leave this place now or face the destruction that only an ogre could inflict!

The woodling crowd shivered, and some looked compelled to obey, but the majority however stood their ground-er-air.

Whether of which it was an act of courage or a display of just how stubborn sprites can be, either which though, there was no denying the truth that they were afraid.

From their, while all were still distracted due to the pressure of the atmosphere, Nathanael managed to have snapped his mind back into focus as he wandered his hands into one of his pockets.

Well?, the water sprite's leader impatiently asked.

The redhead then grabbed the item he was searching for and immediately took it out.

A silver colored, circular-star shaped necklace with 13 pieces of stones attached to it, one larger than the other 12 surrounding it.

As he secretly held the piece of jewel in hand, Nathanael whispered-

Beat them. Beat them., he repeatedly chanted, almost pleadingly, but no matter how, nothing happened.

After a couple more seconds, more of the water sprite's patience dissipated. Their leader then growled.

Suit yourselves., he then snapped his fingers, and from there the ogre immediately stomped towards them.

A number of woodling sprites scattered while a few couple still remained.

Any plans?, one of the sprites asked him in panic.

Nathanael thought, the situation now getting to him. He didn't have an entire minute to make up a plan so he decided to do the first thought that came into his mind.

Earlier today, somewhere around before he was about to head to school, his mothers decided to teach him a practice that could very well, as they believed, could potentially save his life one day.

The protection spell.

*STOMP* *STOMP* *STOMP*

With the monster now approaching closer, and with no other idea or option, Nathanael clenched his fists, gritted his teeth, stiffed his body, swallowed his throat, before finally choosing to do the unthinkable.

He ran forward.

It was an action he had taken at the last and final second, an action he never considered of ever doing.

If it were any regular scenario with Hawkmoth and his akumas, he would, in all fairness, would most likely head for the hills, knowing full well that everything would simply return to normal like always.

However, unfortunately, that wasn't the case of the present, for in this moment, there were no heroes that they could count on to save them.

It was foolish, truly foolish, but he couldn't just stand by watching as the woodling sprites scatter into fleeing, without even a chance for them to defend what they cherished most dear.

He just couldn't.

And so he did, he stood in front of everyone with only the most simplest plan riding on his head, hoping his best that what he had in mind would work.

Please work. Please work., he prayed, nervously.

He lifted both his hands ahead of himself, then intertwined his middle with his index on both of his hands while standing in a rather awkward posture.

From behind, Juleka tilted her head.

You're…going to wish it luck?

Nathanael's eyes widened at that as his mind was taken aback, shifting pupils towards the girl as he was unsure on how to respond to that. But then was quickly changed when a large looming silhouette enveloped them.

The boy looked in front of him and saw the ogre standing before him menacingly. His eyes nearly gorging out when his blues took attention of the distance between him and the beast. He almost felt as if he nearly shrunk while his heart dropped in utter terror.

The aforementioned being then growled before it balled both of its hands into fists, raising them up above its own head.

Seeing immediately of what the creature was attempting to do, Nathanael took into his senses and dodged quickly before the monster could strike the earth, ultimately causing it to shake.

Nathanael watched with a mortified face at the sight of what could have potentially have been his end.

Scatter!, shouted a yellow sprite, and it did not take for a second voice to speak for all the others to follow suit.

All flew into various directions, flying to here and there like a bunch of flies, while the ogre on the other hand continued doing its task, breaking property and causing damages.

It bellowed and roared as the woodlings cowered even more, much of course to the water sprites' amusement apparently.

Amidst all the chaos, while as he still laid at his position, Nathanael watched in a state of frozenness while the creature proceeded. There were screams, there were loud noises, there were roars and shrieks and sadistic laughter, he watched it all, he watched them all with widened, unblinking eyes.

But not long after, his body instantly winced when he felt someone trying to pull his sleeve, he turned around and saw Juleka attempting to drag him out of the area.

He then stood up and followed her to hide from the brutish green menace, who in turn clearly seemed to be having quite a lot of fun while doing its job.

They then fled the scene, and hid by some trees and bushes. They gasped for air while holding their knees.

What was that about?, the girl asked between breaths.

Nathanael flinched, then looked at her, then gazed down shamefully upon the soil.

Found two! Found two!

They became startled as their bodies slightly jerked, they turned their views to the said voice's direction, and became dreaded when they saw a blue colored sprite shouting out while heading away. Immediately as it disappeared a bellowing roar was heard. Their skins paled in horror as they sprinted away hurriedly once again.

The two ran away further into the trees, hoping to find safe shelter to conceal from the terrible monster. They both listened as the sounds came louder and louder.

It was just like back at Granny Spooks, Juleka thought. How could she allow herself to become involved into such a similar fate once again?

Nathanael and Juleka fled further, wanting nothing more but to get away and not get caught by the monster's grasps.

Just then, as they were still fleeing, they both subtly felt something grabbing them by the ankle. However, before they could turn and look, the two suddenly found themselves being lifted off the ground while being carried upside down.

It happened as a quick experienced though, as it ended only as soon as it had started. Both the boy and the girl were dropped down behind some bushes not that far from where they had just been running.

As both teens elevated themselves from the sudden pain they felt, they saw a glimpse of the entity that had caused it.

Roots. Yes roots, they were carried away by the roots of trees which went away and back into the earth.

I'm sorry I got you guys into this mess., they turned back behind them after their ears caught her voice. They then saw Zelena with her feet touching the dirt, looking apologetic and ashamed.

She rubbed her left arm with her right hand while her entire body went stiffed from unease, her face turning away out of guilt.

But instead of accepting her apology, Nathanael had only looked bewildered, his ceruleans only read astonishment as the boy inquired the sprite.

Was that you?, he pointed at the roots earlier.

Caught by surprise, she narrowed her eyes and questioned back with an unsure tone.

Yes…?

Nathanael, remaining aghast and shocked spoke up immediately.

If-If you can do that, he inquired., then why did you needed to call for help in the first place?

Because violence is not our ways!, she then stomped her foot while her knuckles formed into fists.

Despite her sudden shift in emotion, Juleka and Nathanael did not faze, their faces still quite remaining puzzled.

Elder always taught us that violence was unnecessary, that it was, in essence, fundamentally useless., Zelena explained after calming herself down a bit., According to him, it is our sacred duty as the woodling sprites of Trocadero to uphold this truth so that the rest of the world could see us as an example. That's why we're not allowed to fight on our own, even if that means…losing everything…we've ever known…

After listening to her, the redhaired boy instantly scoffed, viewing on how absurd the nature of her reasons was.

He then sarcastically derided.

So, instead you'd thought that it would be better if you find someone else to do you're dirty work, is that right?

Excuse me?

You heard what I said., his voice now growled., Because of you're so called "pacifistic beliefs", you decided that instead of solving your own problems by yourselves, you'd rather have some random person to take all the hits for you instead, right?! You guys don't support non-violence, you're just a bunch of cowards who are too weak and wimpy to do things on your own.! No wonder the water sprites hate you guys!

Are you ridiculing the teachings of the Elder?, Zelena furrowed her brows.

If I say yes, he answered back., what good can you do? You're not allowed to hurt me, remember?

You're one to talk Nathanael.

Suddenly their tauntings were disturbed by the voice of a third person. They turned their attentions and saw Juleka, who was only now making herself be heard.

The girl hitched with narrowed brows as her coppers glared at her classmate with a bitter expression on her face.

While I am with you that Zelena is at fault, you on the other hand were the one who first accepted her stupid request in the first place!, for the first time since Granny Spooks, Nathanael had finally heard her voice more coherently and clearly once again. It surprised him as his eyes went large, his mind and body turning stunned at the state of shock.

His mouth became aghast as he listened while the girl continued.

You were the one who first nodded you're head and said yes! You were the one who came here naively thinking that you got everything under control! And, hey wait, you don't! Just leave everything to me, he says., she scoffed., Why did I ever even listen?! Now I'm probably going to have my life on the line again because of you!

Hey!, the boy retorted., It's not my fault that you're in here, I never forced you to come! In fact, as I recall, you came here under your own choice!

And another thing!, Juleka proceeded., Why on Earth would you so stupidly head in front of that monster-

Ogre., the sprite corrected, despite the girl not listening.

-with nothing except – crossing fingers? Crossing fingers? Seriously! Was that you're plan all along?! Do you realize how absurd you were?! Wha-What was that all about?!

Nathanael's face burned red from embarrassment, averting his own gaze from her and Zelena.

W-well, actually-

Before he could complete his sentence, familiar loud sounding footsteps became visibly heard, fortuitously turning the group into quietness.

The two Francoise Dupont students hid themselves lower while Zelena hovered above ground slightly in order to check view.

We need to find a better hiding spot., Zelena whisper-told, to which the two adolescent had instantly agreed at.

The pair crawled their way while as their tiny companion flew, the sounds of the footsteps approaching louder and louder.

They managed to reach themselves behind a near by tree, still tensing at the thought that the creature might find them.

The ogre in turn came into the very bush where they all had initially occupied, turning quite baffled when it looked and found none.

But unfortunately though…

…the ogre showed persistency.

Instead of giving up and moving on, the ogre proceeded to sniff the air through its two large nostrils, and to its senses detected the odor of 3 living flesh.

The ogre begun stepping through the bushes, quickly causing the group to tense, wince, flinch, and heave, the horrifying noises of its now slightly loud stomps heading nearer.

Hey you!

Just then, the voice of an unlikely miracle then came, approaching the giant green humanoid with a scowling face and an annoying tone.

Where do you think you're going? The woodling sprites are over there!

The aforementioned sprite placed with extra emphasis on the last word of its sentence while pointing at a particular area.

The beast simply looked at him uncaringly.

Oh? Don't tell me that you don't want you're fishes anymore?

That was when the ogre grumbled incoherently, rolling its eyes before turning around, going to where the water sprite had previously been directing.

The insectoid smiled before following the large creature.

The last the party saw of it while as they were still hiding there, were the sounds of its loud stomping footsteps slowly disappearing.

Immediately, the girls sighed.

*Sigh*

That was really close., remarked the little Zelena.

Juleka responded by nodding before her eyes became written with puzzlement.

But, what was with the fishes though?, the girl asked wondering.

Oh, fishes are well renowned for being one of an ogre's favorite foods, especially if their served raw., Zelena simply answered., My best guess is that that's what the water sprites would be paying him after all these is done.

The other girl nodded her head once again as she noted that, but then suddenly she accidentally wandered her copper pupils when she instantly completely turned her entire body after glancing at the state of where her classmate was.

She saw as the boy sat down on the grass while using the tree behind him for support, he breathed heavily and difficultly as his chest heaved in large portions of air.

Is he ok?, the sprite asked.

Yeah., Nathanael quickly responded while breathing harshly., Just need-just need my-

The illustrator aimlessly travelled his right hand throughout his various pockets, trying to ravage for his inhaler, but as he done, he subtly stopped after his hand reached into his pants' right pocket, now grabbing hold at a certain object.

The boy then slowly took the said object out, revealing the Wishing Star in hand, he glared his eyes at it, remembering his failed attempt in using it earlier.

He recalled as he was told of how it was his mothers whom made it, and how it had failed him drastically.

He then suddenly recalled of his mothers' lies and secrets, and of how they had even kept an important subject regarding his own parents away from him.

"For his own good, they were doing this for his own good, they were doing this for him," pathetic. That was what it all was, that was all they were, that was what this stupid necklace was! Pathetic!

He gripped onto the piece of jewel extremely tight before gradually throwing it away, disappointed and frustrated once again at his very own pathetic mothers.

After that he then finally took hold of his red inhaler as he immediately placed it into his mouth while pressing the button at a stressed pace.

What's this?, Juleka then suddenly asked curiously as she bent down in order to grab it.

It was supposed to have helped us earlier., Nathanael quickly answered, making his anger towards it clear.

Hey is that what I think it is?, Zelena then flew closer to the item, It is! Oh. My. Gosh. I can't believe you have one of this!

The boy didn't respond, his eyes focusing only at the grass below him as if it were the most interesting thing right now.

What is it?, inquired the girl with copper eyes.

It's a Wishing Star!, the female sprite answered quick., It's a very popular item to get during the New Years. Personally, I never really got the chance to ever having one, but that doesn't mean I don't plan to.

Why's that?

Because it grants wishes!, Zelena stated., Or…at least to some extend that is. See, its supposed to be a party toy, but that doesn't make it worthless.

Actually, it's completely worthless., the boy sitting finally started speaking again as he muttered.

Still holding onto his inhaler, the adolescent folded his arms and placed them on his knees, Nathanael's head then dropped on his arms as he covered his face depressingly.

With her eyes gleaning perplex upon the tiny necklace, the girl tilted her head and raised one of her eyebrows.

Why would you bring such a thing?

The boy flinched as a respond to her before releasing a breath.

I was told that that thing was supposed to be capable of handling any sorts of problems., Nathanael explained, not bothering by the slightest to conceal his exasperation and frustration., The only reason why I even brought that was because I was told that it should guarantee any job., he then scoffed as his face turned slightly away., Guess even "he" lied.

Though she still didn't know of what he exactly meant at that last part of his sentence, nor did she even cared, she still returned her eyes at the jewel in question, and immediately felt bad at her earlier accusations of him afterwards.

So…you mean you didn't come here unprepared?

What? Of course not!, he quickly reacted.

Juleka's eyes droop slightly from guilt as her head hang down.

I'm such an idiot!, she inwardly muttered.

How she allowed her stress to get the best of her, ultimately leading her lashing out and releasing all her exasperation on him. She knew in truth that she wasn't really mad at him, in fact, in all honesty it was more likely that she was mad at herself.

Mad and disappointed.

He was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. She had no rights whatsoever to blame him for her current predicament, for as he told her…

…she came under her own accords.

Even if said accords were a mistake.

Juleka sealed her orbs tightly shut for a few seconds before she once again opened them, expressing nothing but utter shame.

Meanwhile, at the young male's point of view, while as the silence reigned and the two girls minding their own businesses, Nathanael revealed his blues again after taking in a heavy and tired sigh, and then cautiously began glaring at the accursed piece of jewelry.

He began hating that object, hating it with a deep sense of passion. Just peering at it made him think about them, and right now that is simply what he didn't need.

To others, one could easily say that he was being unfair and, a bit, overly dramatic simultaneously as well, but if those same people were placed under his situation, then perhaps they would understand him or cut him some slack.

He thought he had already forgiven them, but turns out his resentment didn't fade.

He was infuriated, and angry, and stressed, and every other emotion in between.

His right hand was already shaking due to intense exasperation.

He eyed the jewel for about the final time before he started speaking in a pained and low voice.

You know what the worst part is?, Nathanael could no longer contain his boiling anger, an anger he had been harboring, showing of how exhausted from stress he was presently., That…they played at me.

Zelena looked baffled at Nathanael's sudden statement.

Who?

On the other hand, Juleka, took every bit of her logic based on all the words he had already uttered.

Your moms?, she guessed, to which the boy had nodded.

They know that I don't like being lied to. They know of how I hate being made fun with. They know of how…

He paused for a brief second, hesitating as he thought his next words carefully.

how important "they" were to me.

The two raised an eyebrow, oblivious as to what he was speaking of.

The young boy sighed once more as he continued.

I…know that I might be being a little unfair to them., he told., And maybe, Maybe, I do would like to think that they were doing that for my own good. I mean…look at now.

He gestured his left hand, the one that wasn't holding on his inhaler, vaguely as to show as to what he meant was the present moment that they were all in, being chased around by a rampaging ogre that is.

He somehow chuckled when he said that, puzzling himself about himself even more.

However, still…*inhale**sigh* I wish that that they could have done a better way to do that.

Just then some pebbles, sticks, twigs, and other stuffs lying around begun emanating a blue glow while as they hovered above ground.

The females immediately knew that it was actually him that was causing the phenomenon with Zelena turning stunned. She began landing her feet onto a close by rock that had floated near her and started hopping at it vigorously, trying to bring it down.

You should stop right now. We could get spotted because of this., Zelena warned.

But the boy didn't hear her, he was already too deep into his own grief to hear of anything right about now.

Maybe, perhaps if they had just been honest from the start, I would at least be able to fully understand what's happening right now., said Nathanael., I mean, yeah I do understand to a certain extent now, but still…everything still just seems too unbelievable to me. Magic? Me, magic? Magic being an actual thing? Its just really hard for me to believe all of that, and yet I'm now forced to suddenly embrace all that up with little opportunity to just step back and think for a second. Everything just keeps coming and coming with one thing over another. Sometimes I'd just wish to just suddenly wake up to find that all this is just a dream.

I know what you mean., Juleka remarked., I too still can't comprehend all this nonsense. Like, it started in turning into a mouse, then meeting a hag, shadow people, a leprechaun, a nymph, a sprite, then I had to find out that I could possibly be something that's not like the rest of my family or friends. Being…alien to them. A...familiar, as you called. I mean, how does that even work anyway? And settling, am I supposed to expect that I would just randomly turn into any animal? How does my body know in which animal to choose?

Juleka., said the boy., I was just making a suggestion, I'm not even sure if you are a fa-

Then What Am I Then!, she snapped once more, taking the other two aback. Once she realized on what she had done, she immediately covered her mouth with her two hands in embarrassment.

I'm sorry., Juleka quickly apologized.

Nathanael blinked for a couple of seconds, still having to get used with her raising her voice. After processing, the teenaged artist immediately shook his head.

It's fine., he reassured her, shrugging his shoulders as he did so., It is a hard thing to grasp after all. So I wouldn't really blame you for getting all worked up about it.

He then narrowed his peripherals, returning his attention towards the necklace again.

But still…

His body tensed and the fingers on his left began to twitch a bit.

at least your folks didn't lie to you., one of his eyebrows then raised., Wait, did they?

Not as far as I know.

Of course., Nathanael sighed., It only has to be me, does it.

Are you seriously that mad at them?, Juleka asked.

Yes. I mean no. I mean… I'm not really all so sure. On the one hand I don't think I could ever forgive them, but in the other, I…just simply don't want to be mad at them., he averted his eyes at her., I don't want them too., his voice whispered.

Juleka became puzzled, she clearly couldn't pick up on that last one, but she did took notice of the way on how he glared at the star shaped jewel.

She then inquired., But, what does this necklace have to do with them?

The artist blinked and sighed as he thought about it, his body beginning to relax a bit as his legs dropped from their position and extended on the blades of grass.

Because they were the ones who crafted it., he casually answered.

What!, Zelena cried out flabbergasted, finally halting from her attempts to bring the same rock down while her eyes widened out of astonishment. She obviously couldn't believe what she had just heard.

You mean YOUR MOMS made that?!

Yeah…

She turned her head around to eye the item before returning back to Nathanael.

Is it original?

I think so?, responded Nathanael uncertainly, placing two of his fingers to his chin., Shadow did mention of how popular these things can be during New Years. You know, kind of like what you just said.

Her green tiny hands shivered as she froze in place.

D-d-do you have any idea-, she stuttered., o-on how FAMOUS YOUR MOMS ARE!

She cried out in disbelief, causing the other two to inwardly jump. Realizing her mistake, she instantly covered her mouth with her two hands.

Silence reigned over for a couple of minutes with the only sounds present were the once coming from Zelena's wings.

They listened intently incase if any of the water sprites, or worst, the ogre, heard her yelling. They quickly relaxed and eased when none came.

Once he calmed, Nathanael sighed, then he viewed the sprite girl with a now creased eyebrow.

What did you mean by…famous?, he asked her.

The girl returned back into her previous state as she looked at him.

Oh, not exactly "famous" famous., she admitted., what I meant to say was "famous", in a sense that they're quite well known, if not the best charm makers in all of Paris.

They are?, Nathanael's eyes widened.

Mm hmm., she nodded., That's right. Honestly, I'm quite surprise that you're surprised. You did just acknowledge of the Wishing Star's popularity?

Well yeah, he stated., But I really didn't thought much about that, I didn't even know that thing-

He pointed at the Wishing Star.

-existed until today. Are-are they really all that popular?

Very popular., she quipped back, oblivious to his confusion., People from all over Paris would flock all the way to their shop every New Year just to get their hands on one of those. How come you of all didn't know that?

Well…, replied Nathanael, averting his eyes away., To be honest with you, I'm kind of still pretty new to all of "these".

These?

Then suddenly, everything came into place, her mouth formed into an "o" as she realized of what he may have meant.

Oh.

Are you disappointed?

I'm already quite am.

The boy bobbed his head down in guilt.

But-but not at you two of course., she quickly stated, holding out her hands frantically., What I meant was…what I meant to say was that I'm honestly quite disappointed in myself.

Why would you be disappointed at you're self?, then out of nowhere, from her corner, suddenly came the voice of Juleka, who had now just started to speak once again after seconds ago. Zelena and Nathanael would be forgiven if they say that they had actually forgotten all about her, leading to them to become quite surprise when she broke her own silence.

The purple haired girl sighed deeply before opening her copper pupils and directing them to Zelena.

You just wanted to save your home. I was the one that let your hopes up. If anything, neither you or Nathanael are to blame, the purple head squinted her eyes prior covering her face with her knees., I'm the one who should be blamed.

Her mind was a chaotic mess right now, for fear and regret don't make for a pretty good mix. Her dread of having everything be just like last night with an evil hag was only just as strong as the guilt that was weighing in her shoulders.

Hey come on, don't say that., she tried to make the other girl feel better, but then her face fell down as well.

Was I… being a little "too" pesky, earlier?

The two then looked their heads at her with bafflements on their expressions.

You guys don't have to lie, I'm already pretty aware that perhaps that I was, was I. Its… a habit of mine. If you ask anyone from my people, almost everyone of them would say of how annoying I could be, even Elder knows about it., she chuckled the last ones out, though sorrowfully.

I'm sorry if the both of you had to come here because of me. I really didn't mean to. I… just get tendencies to get too over excited you know?, then she dropped her head again., Which almost always leads people into trouble. *sigh* But in this case I guess, I went a little too far. I'm sorry.

The winds blew, allowing the tree tops to sway, the rustling of the leaves along with the beating of Zelena's wings becoming the only visible sounds that were heard for a while, deafening silence had come to ensure, again.

The rocks and twigs remained hovering around, with blue colored auras remaining suspended above ground.

Juleka and Nathanael shared a sorry look while staring at the poor woodling sprite, knowing fully well that both of them had failed on their words.

Spectacularly.

How they had initially promised but failed to fulfill, how they had given their word (even if stupidly), only to fall back. It no longer mattered on whose fault it was or who started or brought them there, for a failure was a failure, and they had failed, making them feel shame.

The only thing they had actually achieved in doing tonight was probably giving a pseudo sense of hope to her and everyone else. And now they could only sit back and do nothing as all of the other woodling sprites lose their homes, how terrible did they respectively felt right about now.

So, shall we go now?, Zelena suddenly inquired, snapping the Francoise students out of their thoughts.

Once again, both looked at her with widened eyes and curious faces.

Go where?, returned the redhead.

Out of here, of course., stated the sprite., I'm the only reason why you guys are here in the first place. It's kind of like the least I could do.

But what about Trocadero?, asked the purple head.

Zelena turned her pupils down.

There's no use in that now. What matters is that I get you guys out here safely.

Then she released a deep huff from her mouth, and furrowed her eyes.

But that's not what you want to do, don't you?, inquired Nathanael.

No., she told, admitting., It's not. I-I want to stay here. I want to stay here and protect my home. I want to do something. I want to redeem myself after earlier. I want to make things up with everyone. I…want to prove myself, once and for all, that I'm more than just a pesky menace who causes people trouble everywhere she goes. That, I am someone worthy of being proud of having in their lives, and not just a flying embarrassment.

He looked at her and quickly saw the sorrow in her face, he looked at her and noticed the glistening in her eyes. He sensed her sadness, that glimpse of hopelessness, that yearning to still hold on even when nothing was at her favor, that shinning light that would slowly fade over time. He sympathized with her, for he knew all too well how agonizing that feeling felt, and so he had to mentally slap himself when he shut his eyes and let out a breath.

Then… I'm staying with you here then.

What?

What?!

Both the two girls immediately reacted with bafflement, jerking themselves tensely all while questioning the validity of their own ears.

Nathanael tried to keep a still face while looking back at them, though that proved difficult based on their surprised and puzzled expressions. He wanted to curl up into a ball and take back his words right then and there, but he knew that he had to stand with pride, even if he had none of those currently.

He could also already sense that his breathing was already getting heavier.

Th-that's crazy!, exclaimed the sprite., You're crazy! You-you can't do that! You've barely even handled yourself out there, you nearly almost got yourself crushed!

The redhead tried hard not to get fazed by that, instead he took a large intake of oxygen through his nostrils, raising up his shoulders and gulped down.

I-I'm aware of that-

Then why?

Why?

Admittedly he too found that question a little complicated, primarily because even he couldn't find out an answer to that one as well. He simply just did what his insides were screaming at him to say, but that didn't mean though that he felt any less relieved from his current distress, in fact he only felt it increase.

However, despite all that, he had to act dignified, he had to keep his word no matter what.

He had to keep his word this time, and this time he had to accept it out of actual willingness to, despite the possible consequences.

He simply just couldn't allow them to lose something in which they cherished, for clearly it was obvious on how much Trocadero truly meant to her and her entire community. He couldn't let that happen, he simply couldn't, not without a chance of actually trying.

Nathanael then looked towards Zelena straight at the eye, making sure that any sign of cowardice he had wouldn't show itself and manifest.

*Inhale* *Sigh*

Look, the young boy started., I…I may not be this "valiant hero" that you were expecting, but, I am also not gonna allow some low life bullies step on you guys., he paused for a couple of seconds to contemplate before continuing., I'm not a hero, ok, and I'm not a warrior, I'm not good at fighting off bad guys, and really, I'm not this strong and skilled mage that you were supposedly imagining. But I did gave you a promise, and I'm not turning down on that promise now. You brought me into this mess of yours, and you're not going to get rid of me that easily.

Zelena couldn't say anything after hearing that, speechless while as her mouth was left gawking. From beside her Juleka was too left stunned for words by Nathanael's little speech, ultimately allowing her brain to travel back to when he was still trap at that cold and filthy dungeon cell, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, a spurt of confidence and determination appeared from her acquaintance's mouth and face after just previously seeming hopeless moments prior, and another when he chose to become left behind in order to save a naiad's life with the great risk of his own in the process.

To throw himself into danger for more than one count was in all honesty, insane. She herself couldn't comprehend thinking that she could utter the same phrase he just did.

Granted of course she always did have a hard time actually speaking her mind in the first place.

It was like Granny Spooks., she realized.

Fine., huffed Zelena with folded arms once she gained back her senses., Let's say that I did allow you to continue in handling this problem, that I will let your life be at the mercy of that crazy ogre. What will you do after? Run in front again? Hit him with a bunch of twigs?, she gestured that last sentence while pointing at the number of hovering pebbles., Ogres may not have any form of special magics like hags do, but from what I've heard they can be just as dangerous when you cross them. There's a reason why they have such a fearsome reputation, they can pulverize you, crush you, tear you're bones apart. The point that I'm making to say is that they possess incredible brut strength, and you're just a settling mage. It wouldn't be a fair match, and flukes don't happen twice. So, with that image now in your head, would you still choose to stay and confront him?

He then felt himself stiffen, swallowing some of his saliva down his throat, drawing his back slightly nearer to the tree behind him.

Maybe he did bite off more than he could possibly chew, maybe perhaps he truly did make a mistake, but even then, it still wouldn't feel right to take back his words.

He had to keep still, he had to remain seemingly confident.

And yet his breathing kept speeding.

But why confront though?

They then turned their heads and faces upon hearing that, turning their gazes as their eyes were met with the quiet purple head.

She didn't meet her glances with them though, instead remaining her visions primarily on the necklace she was still holding, her expression quite unreadable.

Juleka twinged upon seeing their stares, her mouth freezing the second their pupils reached hers, attention still not being her strong suit and all. She stiffed her body for a small moment prior to her shutting her orbs and forcing her mind to regain her sense of focus. The female then shook her head briefly before she decided on speaking once again.

The girl lifted one of her hands and showed them the jewel.

She twisted her neck to face Nathanael.

You claimed this thing can grant wishes, right?

Umm…right.

Then how come we don't just use it?

Both her companions stumbled back after upon hearing Juleka's suggestion, orbs widening.

That's the point why you brought this thing here, right?

Nathanael inhaled as he allowed out a small sigh, reluctant to answer.

Right., he nodded.

Then, let's use it., his classmate persistently insisted.

Y-Y-Yeah, Yeah. Yeah.!, the green skin toned female then suddenly sputtered, shifting her mood and thoughts with a renewed feeling of hope evidently observed., She has a good argument. Let's use you're charm to save Trocadero!

W-we…we can't.

He stated to them, sadly dropping his head on his knees once more.

Sorry.

What? Why?, the sprite inquired.

*Inhale* *Sigh* Because like I already told before, he frustratedly explained in a low volumed voice, resurging irritation becoming visible., that thing is practically useless. I've tried using it and it did absolutely nothing. It's probably just a worthless piece of garbage.

About a second came to pass, and the two just looked at him. They didn't know on what to say or what to do, though they knew that he clearly wasn't feeling fine.

W-well…did-did you tried doing the instructions properly?, quipped Zelena, trying to change the mood.

Instructions?, Nathanael questioned, lifting his head again as he faced the tiny woodling.

Yeah, the instructions., the sprite gave a small smile, glad that her idea worked., All charms have their instructions. It's so that they know when their being used or what exactly they are supposed to do. It's actually pretty much mundane knowledge basically, even a non-charm making expert like me knows about that.

Oh, so its like pushing the right buttons on a remote., said Juleka.

I have no idea what you're talking about, returned the other girl., but yeah, I guess.

While they were conversing, the boy had suddenly become silent, not uttering even a single word till the sprite looked at him again.

She raised an eyebrow.

You did do the instructions, right?

His face instantly turned as red as his hair, while as he attempted to avert his eyes away.

I-I didn't even know that there was supposed to be an instruction?, he nervously defended., Shadow never told me about that part.

Well maybe he just assumed that you already knew. Like I said, it's pretty much mundane knowledge.

Then she began beaming.

Wait just a second, her face slowly brightened., so that means that there might still be a chance.

Coppers and blues shifted their attentions back into the sprite after listening to her tone. They glanced as they saw her look straight, only to end up staring below herself, quite appearing to be at deep thought, eyebrows furrowing in pondering.

I have to save my home.

Surprised at first, Nathanael subtly twisted his mouth upwards.

Then let me help.

M-me-Me too.

He turned shocked as his eyes went bigger and faced his other companion.

That's sweet for the both of you to say, Zelena told them joylessly., but, I can't let the two of you be a part of this anymore.

But-

No buts!, she interrupted the boy before he could finish on what he was going to say., you're both leaving and that's final. Now, follow me.

We're not leaving.

As she was about to fly away, the winged girl fortuitously halted, stopping at her tracts once she heard Juleka's voice.

Nathanael also subtly faced the direction of the voice's said owner, once again getting to hear her tone change from that of timid to that of sternness and clarity.

Juleka narrowed her pupils at the little small humanoid creature, her previous unnoticeable presence abruptly transforming into an intimidating aura. She frowned at her before allowing herself to continue on speaking once again.

Do you have any idea on how much stress you put me into today?, she earnestly questioned the sprite.

Sorry., the other apologized in regret.

But unfortunately, the purple haired teen didn't seem quite eager to listen or accept.

Sorry isn't going to cut., the girl looked at onto the sprite more deeply, she raised her free hand and began counting on her fingers., I have been dragged out in the middle of the night, again, faced against a monster, for the second time, almost gotten killed, and forced to lie to my mother and brother. If you think I could just forgive and forget all of that, then you got another thing coming.

Again, Zelena bobbed her face in shame.

From where he was, Nathanael instantly became lost for words, his brain couldn't seem to make up anything as a response.

Where going to finish this, whether you approve of it or not. So-

She shoved her occupied hand with the Wishing Star, close to the green sprite while continuing to hold it.

-tell us about the instruction so we could get this over with.

Silence reigned and with it along came the rustling of the grass and tree branches to become visibly heard, for a moment, not a single one of the group dared to utter a word, until finally Zelena gave in and sighed.

Fine. Alright.

The classmates silently cheered prior to the sprite proceeding.

But…there's just one problem though.

And that's?, questioned the boy.

I don't really know on what the instructions are for that, actually.

What?!, the two simultaneously exclaimed, and Zelena having to close her eyes shut while swearing that a gust of air came and blew her hair and dress briefly when they inquired.

Like I said, I never owned one before., she elucidated., All I know about the Wishing Star is that it grants wishes, along of course with being an awesome party gift, but, that aside, I don't have any other information regarding it to share. However…

Her memories came running.

Eceny does have a magazine that focuses about charms, and if I recall correctly, I think I once saw an article dedicated just for it.

The other girl blinked her copper pupils, astounded by the knowledge that Zelena had just told, for one thing, sprites can own magazines? Her head was already spinning from all the questions that were flooding her mind, never mind the fact as well that apparently, magical beings also publish magazines, (her head became dizzier).

Meanwhile, as she was busy pondering on that, Nathanael keened his eyes at the jewel Juleka was holding, he stared at it and instantly felt a pang of guilt. Since this morning he had been scorning at his mothers for their secrecy, angry and stress that they never told him all about these things until now. And while he still kind of felt like that, that didn't mean that he should be pointing his digits at them (or at Shadow) for the dumb choice he made.

He chose to be here, he chose to aid Zelena, he chose to grab whatever magical item his mothers might have and hoped for the best that it would do its job properly. But he never assumed though that things would turn this badly, even still though, it was still his own choice on why he came, and now he chose to do something he would probably regret even more.

So if we find this magazine., Nathanael thought deeply as he spoke., we find the instructions to activate the charm.

I didn't say that., immediately told the sprite., but there is still a slim chance.

She then raised a brow.

Are you two still certain that you would want to stay?

Both had hesitated, knowing the consequence if they did so, memories of the old hag and the shadows still lingering fresh.

It wasn't long till both respectively nodded.

Zelena nearly froze once again, but this time not much because she was puzzled, baffled, or flabbergasted, but because more on the note that she was…touched. Touched on the fact that they were still willing to help despite the conflict having no real part to do with them. Touched because they were still committed to give for something they were not connected with.

Soon she felt her eyes glistening with tears, but she tried her best however not to shed a single one. For it was there that she found out, that even though she had failed in attempting to search for professional warriors, she still succeeded in finding herself some heroes, and perhaps that was all what she needed.

Maybe this is it., she told herself mentally.

Her lips twisted upwards, a fist placed on her chest, a sense of confidence written on her face.

Alright then.

Minutes later, after Zelena had already explained to them about her friend owning a magazine, and how she would usually hide her valuables under the roots of a particular tree, the party consisting of a boy, a girl, and a tiny woodling sprite, had hitherto set on their feet (or in Zelena's case, wings).

They already formalized a plan, and that plan was quite honestly, pretty simple.

Find the magazine, hope that there was a page reading about Nathanael's charm necklace, search for the proper instruction from the guided article, and lastly, make the wish that would force the water sprites (along with the ogre) to withdraw and leave.

Simple, but still very much quite risky.

If one slight part of that scenario didn't come to meet as they anticipated, then all of them can kiss their "simple plan" goodbye.

For one thing, it depended way too much on Zelena's friend's piece of pop culture media, if so that they do manage to achieve in getting their hands on it, they would have to pray that the article that they were searching for would be there, looking at it, that part would most certainly take for an entirely different wish on its own.

Another problem was trying to go get that magazine from that one specific tree, since as already mentioned by their doll-sized compatriot, the tree's location was not really all that far from the area where her people lived, meaning, that the chance of them meeting the unjolly green giant while on their "little quest" was as probable as finding chicken feathers at a chicken coop.

It was likely.

They all nervously walked, making sure that they were quiet along the way while as the sprite was leading. Not a single one spoke a single word or phrase, all being quite preoccupied with their own inner internal conflicts going on inside their heads.

Zelena was ahead of the group, with Nathanael by the middle, and Juleka falling slightly behind.

As they walked, the girl cast her copper eyes downwards, a frown shaping her face.

Within her very neurons, she pondered on how she managed to have turned on a 360 from being frightened of certain danger to once again finding herself stepping back to the very situation on how she even got involved within the chaos in the first place.

It was frustrating, annoying, irritating, and yes, nerve wrecking and scary.

She did not desire to return into such a predicament, she truly wanted to avoid another Granny Spooks-life and death, incident to repeat. But it seems that, like her desire in becoming visible, no matter how hard she tried in coming out of the darkness, she still manages to walk back in all over again.

*Sigh*

She sighed out of exasperation.

Juleka then raised up her peripheral visions a bit and glanced at the sight of Nathanael walking in front of her. She averted her face away slightly, immediately being reminded of how he was still determined to help Zelena despite already being told that he was free to leave.

The sailor's daughter couldn't really quite pin point exactly, nor could she understand.

Why would he choose to continue and stay, despite clearly being afraid and unsure himself?

That, she simply couldn't process.

From one memory onto another, Juleka recalled once more regarding the events prior to their clash against the old crone, flashes of him choking and giving in, becoming uncertain, quivering on his sentences, collapsing himself on the grass, only to as well make up a confident face at the end.

This moment here was no doubt just like that, and both for the same exact purpose as well.

She peeked up ahead as she saw Zelena hovering by prior to returning her focus back into the redhead.

Aside from sharing the same advisor for the last two years and now, the purple head would admit that she truly knew of nothing about him.

To her eyes, he was basically just a presence that was there. Sitting at the back, sketching with his pencil, and remaining there until if either the school bell rings or when the Akuma Alert was set in place.

In her point of view, there was no reason to knowing him better, simply because they never really talked all that much to begin with. However, through unexpected chances, and through unorthodox encounters and experiences, the universe had showed to her, once again, that it could play with her in a variety of ways that she could certainly have not anticipated, even within the span of a hundred years.

Now she was forced spending most of her time unintentionally learning things about someone who was by far, a practical stranger to her.

How he needed an inhaler, how he didn't feel comfortable about the information of his own supernatural inheritance, how he would sometimes nearly associate everything with comics, how he would easily shake and panic, only to decide on walking the path that would clearly put himself at harm's way.

She was aware he was scared, she could tell based on previous observations of him.

His voice was trembling, his breath was intensifying, his blue orbs revealing a certain emotion which was not quite unlike her own.

Fear, uncertainty, nervousness, doubt, whatever one may want to call it, the terrible sensation she could far too, recognize was obvious, even if he tried to conceal it.

And yet, even through all that, he would still choose to offer in a helping hand, despite probably knowing of the high probabilities of that said hand being cut or crushed in the process.

She couldn't comprehend that part, she couldn't understand on why he would select the most suicidal of options. He wasn't required, he was free to shut up and sit this one through.

He was frightened, that much she understood, the mere idea of running into the fire spooked him as much as it did her, nevertheless though, here they were now presently, walking into the flames one more time.

And on that topic, she also came into questioning in regards to her own decision on why she stayed.

Was it due to guilt? Or was it due to peer pressure again?

She couldn't direct herself for any proper answers, but whatever the case could be, she was here now, preparing to play another game of tug of war with Death again, and this time there was no turning back.

Then… I'm staying here with you then.

The way he subtly said it astounded her, shocking her earlier to the point until her entire form went stiffed. She didn't anticipate him suddenly sputtering those words, whether it be for a sick naiad or a woodling sprite.

Why does he keep saying that? Why doesn't he just give in into the fear? His obviously afraid? Why isn't he tempted to hid in the shadows?

What is it with you?, she then focused on him again as he kept on his tract, all while complaining about him internally., Why don't you just say you'll leave? Can you really grabble with how insane this all is?

It just doesn't make sense? He just doesn't make sense.

Then why confront then?

But again, she guessed so did she.

As the group went on, they then fortuitously stopped from their trail, pausing at a random sight.

The two looked at her before they suddenly took notice of some "gruffing" sounds nearby, causing them to already worry and flinch. They proceeded to walk to some bushes, slowing themselves as they peered through the said bushes.

Through their luck, they widened their eyes in horror once they saw the very creature they were trying to avoid, patrolling there while sniffing the air, possibly in search for more woodling sprites to terrorize with.

Please don't tell me that the tree is over there?, Nathanael inquired the tiny lifeform, who was now floating just right at the level of their faces.

Zelena swallowed a lump in her throat prior to silently nodding.

Oh good grief.

They stared and watched as the ogre surveyed, peeking through various plants and trees with nostrils largening and shrinking over and over repeatedly.

Why is it not leaving?, asked Juleka.

Some of my people may probably be nearby., the toy sized girl speculated while placing an index and thumb under her chin.

Or, his probably smelling us right now., Nathanael dreaded, and with the others following suit after hearing his suggestion.

What do we do now?

It's not too late to leave?, said the teenaged sprite, showing her face to the violet haired girl innocently. In turn though, she responded by giving a scowl and a grumble. Zelena then plastered an awkward wide grin before around and away from her, unintentionally meeting her view with the sight of Nathanael, who was still steadily watching the enormous humanoid with evident nervousness. Her eyes then caught the presence of pebbles abruptly floating up again and looked at them quite keenly. An idea suddenly emerged.

Or perhaps we can just call in a warrior.

Juleka and Nathanael both quickly turned their heads and shared a puzzled expression at her.

The sprite simply smirked.

As the ogre walked around in search, his ears suddenly caught on something strange. It circled around its body and immediately found some rocks and twigs shaking from the ground before fortuitously levitating in midair.

They all also had some kind of blue aura enveloping them.

All the random objects remained in suspension for a quick second before they subtly started attacking it.

It covered its face with its arms at first, and then it began swatting at the sticks and stones like they were a bunch of mosquitoes.

Its arms were trying to knock them all back, but unfortunately, they all seemed to be rather persistent. It growled and bellowed but nothing came to be.

The creature then began stomping until it was finally at a distance.

The three hurriedly emerged from the bushes as Nathanael kept his attention on the green giant, both his two hands directing at the monster's direction.

Keep him away, ok?, said the sprite.

I'm trying, but like I keep telling you, I'm still pretty much new to this., he returned with hints of annoyance.

Then we'll make it quick.

Both girls then proceeded in heading to the tree that Zelena had described.

It was admittedly a typical looking tree. One could literally walk pass by it without ever knowing that fantastical entities were using it in order to store their stuff. Some may even had tried sleeping under its shade, ignorant of its other purpose.

Zelena then raised and flicked her hand, with glowing dust forming out of nowhere.

Instantly, the tree begun opening a small gap through its roots.

Juleka stared at it out of wonder, but then was immediately driven back once Zelena flew right inside.

What are you doing here Zelena?

Somehow another voice came out of the hole, making Juleka tilt her head with a raised eyebrow. It didn't take long till she jumped when she saw Zelena got shot out and fell on the soil. The purple-streaked haired girl quickly knelt down to aid her.

She saw as three of Zelena's kind came out of the dark cavity, one being yellow while the two others being as green as Zelena was, all of them appearing quite angry.

E-Eceny., Zelena addressed while rubbing the top part of her head, being quite shocked.

-We don't want to see your face here.

-Yeah, get out.

But-Eceny I-

Leave Zelena., sternly huffed the green one at the center.

Eceny., Zelena stood to her feet before kneeling and clasping her hands, she moved closer towards the trio using her knees., Please, we just need to borrow one of your magazines.

The girl sprite, the other one who was apparently named Eceny, appeared disgruntled when she heard Zelena's words, rolling her eyes in disgust at the process. However, if Juleka were to be honest, it does kind of sound ridiculously stupid given that she wasn't aware on what they were arranging.

Are you even listening to you're self?, Eceny remarked., At a time like this? What sort of favor is that?!

We have a plan Eceny.

We?, questioned the yellow sprite with a layer of skepticism.

Yes, we., Zelena gestured to herself and Juleka.

You mean you're so called "warriors", the other green colored woodling at Eceny's right jeered.

Well I didn't know they weren't warriors., she quickly defended.

Yeah, just like when you didn't know that "toad" was actually just a rat.

It was dark. And-

Enough!, instantly all went silent once Eceny shouted commandingly.

She looked towards Zelena's face with an absolute irritated look, Zelena didn't seem to want to meet the other sprite's gaze, but had to fight the urge to glance away.

Tell your friends to head out at once, Jardins du Trocadero won't be a safe place to sojourn in tonight. After that …come with us. There's still plenty of room left at my hole.

Her two companions looked like they were about to protest with her, but Eceny gave them a glare, quickly shutting them up.

No.

Surprised, Eceny looked behind her and stared at Zelena right in the face again.

No?

No., Zelena stated stubbornly.

The woodling sprite sighed, holding her right hand to her forehead to relax them from her sudden stress.

Zelena, stop being ridiculous.

I'm not being ridiculous Eceny, I swear.

*Sigh*

Zelena. Please. For once in your life, stop being distracted by your own head and listen to me-

I am listening to you!

Then why-

BECAUSE I TRUST THEM OK!

From her last sentence, all of them froze and stiffed, even the Francoise student, turning quiet for a couple of moments before proceeding back.

I know it sounds crazy, though I think you're pretty much use to that., she chortled at herself sorrowfully., But, I really-really think that they could handle this.

Eceny was about to voice out on her own opinion (probably regarding on how absurd her statement was) but she stopped her quick.

I'm aware they're not the warriors I promised about earlier, I know they're not the guys you were hoping, I know that they're just settling., her voice shook at that last one., But… I trust they can still help. I don't know why…but I trust them.

Juleka, who overheard, didn't quite know what to say after listening on what Zelena had just told.

The other sprite, on the other hand, then sighed in exasperation.

Are you sure this is what you want?

I'm placing my entire bet in them., she confidently returned.

With another second passing, the other girl closed her eyes and allowed Zelena to once again enter her hole. Perhaps it took her one second, or two, or four, however long she took, she eventually, at the end, got what she was looking for as she headed out once more, this time carrying a rolled-up magazine, which apparently seeming to be quite too large and heavy for her size, as seen with the fact that she was struggling a bit just to lift it.

Thank you Eceny.

The aforementioned sprite smiled and bowed her head, after then, she and her two colleagues flew in back inside her hole before as it closed.

Right.

Juleka huddled down while Zelena unrolled the magazine.

"Time's Charm", the name of its publishing company, displayed various photos of many different supposedly magically powered accessories from its cover and all throughout its many pages. To the purple head's eyes, most of the subjects presented had seemed rather ordinary, at least to her point of view.

The sprite continued on flipping on and on from page to page, hurryingly finding (and hoping) the very article that they were looking for.

Until…

Ah, there it is., she pointed her finger at a certain article, it showed a picture of the same exact necklace that her fellow female compatriot was still holding on to. She then began reading it, but before she could initiate, a looming shadow suddenly blocked her view.

Could you please move., she requested, but no response. She drooped her eyes as she annoyedly turned around to look at Juleka, however, when she did, she, like her, had froze, went quiet, and gasped.

Her eyeballs grew larger as her mouth instantly went gaping, for there, standing, the sight of the ogre peering down at them menacingly with its huge carnivorous-like-teeth.

Not one of the girls dared to move, since both became paralyzed in fear. Their hearts trembled as they could feel their bodies grow cold.

The ogre continued to glare at them for a couple more moments, until, suddenly it was interrupted when it felt something hitting it from the back of its head.

Its mouth turned into a frown as the ogre attempted to rotate behind. It then saw the puny redhead from earlier ago, who foolishly actually sprinted into the forefront. A grin came unto the monster's face, making Nathanael wince. It made its left hand into a fist and raised it up skyward, but just before it could squish him, a strong gust of wind suddenly showed up, affecting the ogre.

The large creature attempted difficultly to keep itself firm, however, the winds became stronger and stronger. It tried with its hardest might not to stumble, to keep its balance, but the longer it struggled, the winds had only increased in power. It didn't take long till the ogre got knocked back and fell through the wind's force.

A loud "crash" sound was heard as its body slammed the earth, which fortunately was sideways, or else his acquaintances would have easily been flattened by the impact.

Once the monster regained its sense of awareness, it quickly shot Nathanael a glare with murderous-blood-shot-eyes and terrifying gritted teeth.

Nathanael took a step backwards as a chill ran down his spine, he hitched a breath as he felt his entire form tightening. He froze in place, staring at the humongous beast until his ears caught Zelena yelling at him.

Nathanael! Run!

And just like that, he immediately obeyed, sprinting himself away as fast as he could while as the ogre stood up and gave chase.

*Rooooaaaaaaar!*

Ahhhhhhh!

The noise of the foul creature's roars and the boy's screams of terror had quickly managed to have captured the attentions of every sprite in proximity, wherever they were hiding or standing, whether water or woodling, all popped their heads in order check on the commotion, only to witness the redheaded teen fleeing from one of the most dangerous lifeforms that nature could ever possibly offer.

As Nathanael tried his best to avoid each tree which came his way, the green ogre simply pushed out every single one of them with its impressive power.

It was determined to catch him at all costs, much to Nathanael's dismay, he didn't know in which path he was running straight into, but he was sure that which way he went was definitely better than the option of stopping right then and there.

He began panting, his knees were tiring, his lungs were giving in, and yet still, he did not pause nor halt, placing his entire dependency within the adrenaline rush that were unfortunately now was beginning to wane from his system due to exhaustion. He closed his eyes and desired for everything to just halt.

Soon he felt himself stumbling down, when he opened his eyes again, he suddenly found himself occupying at more familiar territories within somewhere between two main walking areas, not that far from Palais de Challiot.

*ROAAAAR!*

Another one of that dreadful sound came to be heard, and he quickly looked to the direction of its source, only to find a tree flying straight towards him at full speed.

He pushed himself up and jumped to the other side, dodging the aforementioned tree in the nick of a second.

The boy was panting in air as he looked at the fallen plant, however that quickly changed when he heard the terrifying sounds of stomping once again.

He scampered as the creature nearly almost caught, immediately running away once more. The ogre looked, then went at a close by park bench. It grabbed it and picked it up with ease. Placing it above its head level before throwing it.

Nathanael stopped, paralyzed when he saw the flying chair. He almost thought it would hit him that time, but as the seat fell it instantly exploded before it could land at him, breaking into pieces and splinters of wood.

His eyes grew and remained fixated at where the bench blew up, until he heard the ogre growling once again.

The creature bellowed, but another gust came, and this time it carried sands along with it, forcing the being to close its eyes lest it wanted the sands to strike.

Using his settling as an advantage, Nathanael fled once more.

He ran and ran until he found himself standing near the new statue honoring the city's two local superheroes, sculpted by the same sculptor and artist, Theo Barbot.

Unlike his previous project at Place des Vosges, where one was kneeling down and Ladybug was appearing to be jumping, this one was a bit more or lest simple in comparison of style as it depicted both the iconic duo standing side by side each other while proudly watching over the Iron Lady, one of Paris's main cultural symbols.

Nathanael continued to catch his breath while staring at the statuettes, his shoulders, messy hair, and entire body showing evident exhaustion from running. To his luck though (or the lack of it), the worst wasn't over yet, as he looked behind him and saw the ogre sniffing the air to hunt him. He immediately went and hid behind the two sculpture's stoned pedestal.

His panting proved hard to stop, but he needed to manage his breathing if he wanted to make sure that he was creating as little sounds as possible. He leaned his head by the stoned stand, keeping his ears into listening mode, afraid of what would happen if the creature managed to find him.

As if he were jinxed, the ogre came nearer, sniffing the atmosphere, tracking for Nathanael's scent. It furrowed its brows as it almost caught him, making Nathanael wince. He then cautiously stepped sideways, attempting to come at the other side of the square shaped structure, but once again, through his "luck", the ogre did as well, and was now gazing at the area where he was standing previously. Soon enough it seemed as if they were playing a game of musical chairs, circling around that block, or perhaps, more accurately, a twisted version of the classic game of hide and seek, where instead of losing, they get pulverized if the hider gets caught.

It was like one of those old funny cartoons now that he pictured it, where both the protagonist and antagonist were to circle around the same pillar or something similar to that. What made Nathanael even more anxious was the part that he knew on how such a scenario usually ended.

Soon a looming silhouette enveloped him, and he knew just of why.

Like in television, the ogre caught up to him through redirecting the other way.

He hurriedly leapt at the opposite direction, adrenaline once again taking over.

The ogre stood up straight and took the statue of Chat Noir, breaking it apart from its feet before launching it at him like a javelin.

The redhead possessed no time to dodge this one out, so he simply covered his head with his hands, hoping that the statue was lighter than what it appeared to look. Instead though, through a flash of cerulean blue, the boy became baffled when the figure of Ladybug's partner vanished out of thin air.

Having enough, the creature now made the loudest roar it could make yet, turning Nathanael's feet even colder, he thought he would have frozen once again, if not for the sight of the horrid fiend charging his way.

He ran ahead, not knowing where else he should go. He felt tears almost falling down his peripherals, however he forced them to keep back.

The artist wasn't aware where he was running, but at some point, his lungs could no longer handle all the action as he held a tree branch to support his balance since his body could no longer anymore, he just looked faraway ahead while he grabbled with the simple process of breathing.

Then, while he gulped, he then felt something (or someone) grabbing him by the collar and pulled.

Hey-

Shhh.

Once he regained himself, he found that he was now standing from right behind the tree, with Juleka and Zelena basically warning him to stay quiet.

Juleka then walked towards the bushes and crouched herself downward, indicating for Nathanael to follow and to do the same. He obliged and flopped down, walking closer as he took out his inhaler from his jacket prior to placing it onto his mouth, panting really vigorously while doing so.

Are you…alright?, Juleka asked with concern. The boy merely gave her a stare as a response, silently telling her as if the answer wasn't already obvious, the girl in return displayed a sheepish face while covering her eyes with her violet color hair streak.

Nathanael continued to glare until he made a sigh.

Did *pant* did you at least f- *pant* find the instruction thing?

Yup., Zelena quipped.

The redhead released a deep but quick exhale once more, however, this time, out of gladness. For some reason, he felt as if that was one, if not, the best news he had ever received on a lifetime.

He smiled as he proceeded on panting.

But…there's a catch though.

A catch?, the boy then looked at her again, his eyes growing with puzzlement.

Yeah., returned the sprite., Apparently since the Wishing Star is sold legally, it has to follow certain rules which restricts it from doing anything truly damaging. So that kind of includes any violent stuff.

Nathanael stared at her unbelievably while his jaws were slowly descending.

O-ok?, he said., No-no violent stuff, got it. But-but maybe we could, you know, wish them to leave?

The green haired girl sighed in exasperation.

No mind control, and any form of forceful teleportation is unallowed as well.

He felt himself dropping, all of this he'd done and said, was led to nothing. Turns out, entrusting the fate of an entire people's residency to a single piece of accessory was actually way too good to even think of as a possibility.

So… what now then?, the sprite inquired of him.

He cast his view down, grieving in disappointment at himself once more, despondency resurging in his soul.

He failed, he failed them twice.

The male teenager shut his eyes tightly as his teeth gritted, his left hand clutching strongly into a fist.

I'm sorry., he spoke softly.

The sprite became baffled and raised an eyebrow.

Sorry?

Nathanael glanced at her direction prior to continuing.

I let you down, again. I'm sorry.

The lines between Zelena's lips ascended upwards, forming a small yet genuine smile.

Apologize when you're dead.

Huh?

Both of the settling adolescents gave her strange looks, making Zelena wince a bit briefly, before shaking her head awkwardly.

Or… if you get really, really, really, hurt, or immobilized, that's good too-er-bad. Well, you know what I mean., she gently chortled.

They threw their peripheral sights at her, with expressions appearing as if like she was now beginning to talk in an alien language.

Zelena inhaled a large portion of air, before releasing them all out.

The point that I am trying to come across is…you shouldn't, give up, not right now.

Surprise, the boy crested his two brows.

Do I need to make a speech?, the sprite jabbed with an innocent-sarcastic tone. She awaited for his reply, though she already knew he would because of how vague she was. When he didn't, she spoke again.

Fine. But I'll make it fast.

She mentally prepared herself, inhaling and exhaling with her orals forming into the shape of an "O" when she was doing the later.

I don't know how to say, but, put it simply, I'm…placing my entire faith on you two.

Nathanael opened his mouth as a reaction while his compatriot sat and listened with a frowning expression.

And, that is why I'm saying that you shouldn't give up, just yet., a wide-fond smile crept on her face., Ever since I could remember, people looked at me as if I were bad luck, as if whenever I try to do something, people expect for things to end up getting 10x more worst., then she sighed., Which was exactly why people would often tell me to…stand back, and let others do.

And that was why you followed us?, the purple head asked.

And that was why I've searched., she confessed., When the water sprites delivered their message of threat, I…will admit, that there was some part of me that was simply doing it for…selfish reasons. I scoured the entire city, from here to the Louvre, from Notre Dame to somewhere within the Seine, to find someone, anyone, that could agree in helping us. I've searched so that I could finally prove something to my community that I can do things without ruining them, that I do too, possess worth among us. Many years I've tried, many years I've been stuck searching, finding, for an opportunity, taking every single challenge until I could finally show them all. So when this chance showed up, I couldn't just let such an opportunity go to waste. I was completely shattered when I heard that I mistook you guys, but I guess that was my mistake, cause like the Elder said, I still need to learn to pay attention to what other people are telling me. But that immediately changed, her gleeful opportunistic mood returned, while as her body posture straightened., because, my hope came back, and, it was all because of the both of you.

I am confident now. I am confident that you guys could handle this just as I am confident that I could prove them all wrong in regards on how they view me. And perhaps, that maybe, just maybe, when you do that, this could perhaps finally, be the night I show them all, through you guys.

She gestured her hands to them.

I don't know why, and I have no clue, but I'm ready to put my fullest bet into this one. So, whatever you're going to do, I'd be here supporting, cheering you on.

Once she completed, both he and Juleka had basically became at a lost for words. Rendered speechless by the uplifting nature of what she had just said. She truly did trust them, and she truly did had faith for them as well. But, admittedly, it also kind of felt burdening, allowing as if some kind of weight to had just been placed for them to forcefully carry. It was burdening because now they both respectively sympathized with her even more now that she told them the whole honest truth.

She felt like a failure, and she had done nearly everything just so she could do something right. And, as a result, she found them. Whether that was simply a coincidence or some insult coming from some higher being was beyond their own understanding. But still, they were simultaneously flattered that after their "minor" misunderstandings had cleared and went, she still decided to offer them one more chance (despite initially giving up on them moments ago).

She trusted them, she said. She felt faith that they would succeed. She trusted and was fully certain based entirely on that said faith that they would become her doorway, her golden path, her greatest gamble yet.

However, to do that, they first had to win and drag that ogre out of there.

*Stomp* *Stomp*

Flinch. As if reminiscent to a classic sketch, their unjolly "friend" came when he thought of them. Perhaps it would have kind of been funny in a twisted sort of sense, but for now, he and the others had simply frozen, anxiety running through the back of their necks.

He keened his eyes at the foul creature, at first he was tempted to avert them, but he decided to go against his instincts as he strongly had shook his head.

Zelena had faith in him, he wasn't sure why, she told him herself. But despite, she had faith.

Why would she place her faith onto a loser? How could simple words have such a large impact on him? Those were definitely a question he'll have to ponder on later, for right now, he needed to focus his mind into constructing an idea, for Zelena.

He thought and he thought, concentrated, but nothing came to be no matter how hard he tried.

*Sigh*

Eventually he re-opened his eyes again, allowing for his sense of sight to resurge, and that was when his orbs' attention took notice on the Ladybug statue not that distant from where he was crouching.

The sculptor gave her justice, he thought to himself as he crept a smile, from the stance of her height, to the posture she was showcasing, all had beautifully captured her flawlessness and engraved them to breath life onto lifeless stone.

The way she confidently smiled, her self-esteem, her bravery, her courage. Truly, who cannot admire such an extraordinary muse? If things had only turned out like the fantasies he had inside his dreams, he would most definitely cherish every tiny moment he'll have with her. She was just too perfect, like a goddess sent from above.

The way on how she talks, the way on how she saves people everyday, the way on how she fights, -

Then, something popped inside him.

His gazing was narrowed once as he continued to peer at the figure of his hero, considering his chances as if he were shaking dices mentally. Then, once he did, he threw away from the spotted heroine and faced towards Juleka. He looked towards her classmate, before quickly extending a hand. Though silent, the girl immediately gotten his gesture.

She then handed the necklace to him.

The boy clutched the Wishing Star, hesitant slightly, but shook it off quite fast.

Zelena. The instructions.

Upon his words, the small sprite made a gleeful grin on and raised herself up straighter.

Ok. Alright. First, hold it in your hand tightly.

He did as she described.

Yes, like that. Then, hold it near your mouth. No, bit higher. There, good. Now, finally, quietly whisper you're wish into the Wishing Star. And make sure that it's in sync with your heart.

Nathanael gave her a perplexing look.

Wait. Heart?

That's what it's says., Juleka confirmed with a nod, being since she had a few glances on the article herself minutes earlier.

The boy felt he was flabbergasted, blinking his eyes for about twice prior to shaking his head back into concentration.

He took a deep-long breath, performed as he was instructed, neared his mothers' charm to his mouth level, shut his blue eyes, and thought.

He contemplated on what he should say, he needed to make himself coherent and clear. How he should say it, how he should speak, he was never really an expert in talking, considering as he hardly ever did, but he tried to remain himself calm, knowing that doing otherwise would only increase his heart rate.

Air in, air out, air in, air out.

Finally, he decided on his words, hoping they were good.

Bring us something we could use.

The Wishing Star then started sparkling, brownish-orange lights enveloping the jewel. The brightness intensified more and more, until a small blast shot itself upwards, and from there manifested a rope, which fell unto the boy's hand.

A rope?, Zelena questioned.

They all stared at the object with inquiry.

Why a rope?, asked the other girl.

I…don't know., Nathanael admitted.

Just then, the charm began vibrating, increasing its speed rate as seconds went on till it flew up and exploded, leaving a trail of confetti and a small note reading "Happy New Year".

Guess there goes a do-over., remarked Nathanael in his thoughts.

Now, with nothing else, they were now forced to stare at a single rope.

*Stomp*

They hitched on their breaths, crouching even lower, after seconds, they lifted themselves back up, cautiously, before peering through the bush again.

A close call, as it had seemed, with the ogre nearly coming close to their hiding spot, the noise of the jewel's explosion almost blowing up their cover.

Zelena sighed.

Lucky his ears don't seem to be as good as his nose., she commented.

While as it returned into seeking around, Nathanael took note on the familiarity of how it did.

It looked through here, and it searched through there, turning and circling around while displaying its persistency. The redhead's eyes then slowly grew when he recalled.

Hey Zelena?, he faced once more., Aside from fish, what else do ogres like to eat?

Oh plenty, they have a reputation for being glutenous, let's see… well, there's humans for one, particularly the younger ones-

He kind of winced at that.

Then, there are cats-

Cats?

Yeah, they find those things as delecacies.

Cats. He needed a cat. If only Shadow were here right now. But he wasn't. So, instead, he would have to make due with what he did have, which was a rope, an inhaler, grass, leaves, a sprite, and-

He made a bright look on his face.

Turn into a cat.

The boy turned towards Juleka, putting both hands on her shoulders.

Juleka instantly jumped from his abrupt action.

Realizing what he did, he immediately took back his hands off her and apologized.

Sorry.

The girl's mouth hanged open, her eyes still and steady.

W-w-what?

No. F-forget what I said. We'll just have to find for another way.

A cat?

Nathanael exhaled before confessing.

We need bait.

She shuddered after hearing that short sentence, feeling as if all the hairs behind her neck beginning to stand.

Bait?

I have an idea., he told her., But it's going to have to be at a certain place for it to work. And to do that, we're going to have to lure that thing there.

I…, the girl hyperventilated, memories of almost dying resurfacing and flashing, the image of her family that day appearing before her eyes., don't, want-, but then, she suddenly also remembered again of how her schoolfellow declared his statement to the sprite. She balled her hands into fists and shook them.

Alright. I'll do it.

He jolted upon hearing that.

A-are you sure? You don't have to…

She hesitated, but nodded in response nevertheless.

Somewhere within his memory lane, the boy could have sworn that he already had the same exact conversation from some place before, making him jerk back for a tiny bit.

He felt guilty, that was definitely an honest fact that he wouldn't try to conceal. Perhaps in some ways, she was right about earlier, that he did keep on placing her within the reaches of harm's way, even if he never meant to.

The young amateur artist wanted to choke back what he said, however, he kind of knew well hitherto that that wouldn't work, particularly since Juleka had already proven to him again and again on just how obstinate she could be during these kinds of crisis.

It was odd, and he would plainly admit that it was strange, to at least his point. Was she secretly some kind of risktaker?

Whatever the case was, he'd have to meditate on it some other time at least as well, adding it to his list of questions that he'll ponder on later (assuming if he still lived).

He took a deep breath, and mentally promised to himself that he wouldn't put Juleka unto these situations anymore if he can, but for now, he'll have to take chances and gamble with his last and final bet (not that he was delighted).

Thank you.

The girl tilted her head at that, not aware on why he just expressed gratitude, though, nevertheless decided to vanish that ponder from inside her mind out when a different inquiry sparked her interest.

She cast down.

But… I don't know how?

Now that was another obstacle altogether, since after all, they all weren't even precisely certain if she was what Nathanael proposed her to be earlier.

A familiar.

A magical creature like ogres and leprechauns, said to be able to change their appearance into any form according to what serves them.

Any random individual might stroll by and find a toad at one second, then see it suddenly transform before their eyes into a fox, then fly off into the distance as a feathered owl, with the last thing they were to heard from it were its hoots.

Truly, they are an obscure specimen as recorded throughout a diverse range of folklore, some claim that they were devils, while others emphasize that they were specters, or goblins, whether what the answer, all were almost certain, that anytime they were around, no good would await those who stumble upon their paths as the harbingers of curses and hexes.

For whenever a familiar does show up, mischief will surely follow.

Nathanael's eyes gazed down on the earth, deeply thinking of a way.

Ok., he said., Let's just think for a sec then.

He remembered on his mothers' statement that morning.

Magic is consciousness sensitive. It reflects with whatever state your consciousness is at.

W-when you turned into a mouse yesterday, was there any reason? Like, were you thinking or feeling something? Anything that has to do…here?

He pointed at his own forehead.

With that, Juleka began to ponder, travelling deeper into her memory stream in order to remember.

She then recalled.

I was sleeping.

Of course., he deadpanned.

But…I did have a dream.

Dream. That could work., the boy straightened up.

He then decided to ask further.

And, what was your dream about?

The girl seemed as if she just shuddered, her face appearing as if she was ashamed about something.

Long story. But…it did have, E-Eris, and Reflecta on it.

Eris and Reflecta, two different supervillains, one commonality, they both were the alter-egos of the same exact person.

Wait! Reflecta!, Zelena suddenly interrupted., Like, Reflecta trampling all over Trocadero with a giant pink doll Reflecta?! Well, I can definitely empathize on why you're so bothered about her, that girl was the worst.

Both blinked for about two times after hearing her complains.

Yeah. Worst., mumbled Juleka, looking down.

Perhaps it's a good idea to tell her later., awkwardly thought Nathanael to himself, referring to the sprite's ignorance regarding the identity of the person she was sneering.

Nathanael…

Hmm…, he then went back to her when she called.

Reflecta. She…threatened me to…go and hide myself…like a mouse.

Nathanael's eyes went wider, feeling something crawl from under his skin.

And then, after that, Eris showed up, and then she pointed her finger at me, I was so…so scared that I froze, and then that was when-

You woke up., he finished for her.

- when… it all started. I-I did wake up, but I nearly almost thought that it was just another nightmare. It didn't take long till I realized that it was all really happening.

So, basically, you let Reflecta get to you., the redhaired teen formulated.

I guess I didn't thought it like that during that time. But yes.

And then there it was, the answer for that mystery, and along with it the steps to perform before their plan to commence.

You're not gonna make me think about cats are you?, it seems like his classmate already predicted.

But… cats are adorable.

No their not., she immediately countered., Their a nuisance, one moment you're setting in the table, and then the next moment you find that one of them abruptly popped out of nowhere, takes one of the dishes, then leaps out of the dinette without a hint of shame. Their basically just four-legged compulsive thieves that people enable to wander around. They ruin everything. I mean, do I need to mention on how many times I had to clean up the plants because of their-

Ok, I get it. You're not a cat person., Nathanael stated., But, you did say that you were willing to do this for Zelena, didn't you?

Juleka became quiet, she shot a glance at the aforementioned woodling sprite before nodding her head.

You're sure this thing is going to work? Me turning myself into a feline that is.

The boy lowered his pupils.

I'm not even certain. But hey, he plastered a smile, trying to cheer her up a bit., at least we can consider this as a test to…you know, finally confirm or not if you are a…you know-

She simply sighed.

He gave her another sympathetic look while also feeling a huge amount of regret.

I'm sorry.

Juleka re-opened her copper circles, raising a brow while doing another head tilt.

Hmm?

For this., he cleared., And for whatever happens, and if anything does happen. I'm sorry.

Juleka nodded once more, understanding of what he meant.

She re-shut, once again, her eyes for another time, concentrating deeply. Her ears caught the voices of her two companions encouraging her, not as the annoying constant chatters that often make people lose focus, but as whispers, meaningful whispers, little words and phrases here and there, that which actually made her flattered (just a tiny pinch).

They were relying on her, solely on her. And because of that they believed in her, and thus, trusted on her. If she failed, if she did not deliver, then it was certainly a "game over" for this plan. Which was why she felt that she had to commit, that she had to accomplish her role. It was a heavy loan that was placed upon her shoulders, and the expectations coming from the two did not make it any less easier.

Juleka meditated, churning her entire brain into thinking only about cats. Why cats? Why did it had to be cats? Furry little devils.

She prayed for this to work. She truly needed for this to work. Zelena counted on her. But being requested to turn oneself into an animal wasn't something that was asked on a daily basis.

How can she be expected to change form? It was as if like ordering a goldfish to fly! Or a clam to grow legs!

Deep breaths.

She dropped from her frustration.

Don't get so worked up little Jewel. Not everyone can be as naturally talented as your brother. Focus. Concentrate. Listen. And soon, you'll be as much as a pro as them in no time. Now, strum.

As the flashback ends, Juleka decided to take those words into hearth.

Deep breaths.

She did.

Focus. Concentrate.

The girl proceeded to return in dedicating her mind centering around cats. She brushed all forms of bias she had towards the creatures, and contemplated into becoming one. She thought about the average cat's face, slitted eyes, whiskers, ears, tail, she imagined about their claws, and their paws, she thought about every little thing she knew about cats along with remembering a few memories she had with them without regarding any judgement.

Deep breaths. Focus. Concentrate.

Listen.

She felt her entire body, a strange tingling sensation somehow as if it was trying to wrap itself around her. She felt a couple of changes, but strangely, she did not sense any pain or ache.

She continued to concentrate, to focus, and to listen, meditating with slight discipline, thinking only about becoming a cat.

Now strum.

Finally, Juleka opened her eyes, and when she did, she found a gaping Nathanael and a delighted Zelena.

She looked at herself as she saw that her hands were now gone, replaced with two paws. She felt something moving behind her back, and when she took a peek, she saw it was a tail.

Her tail.

Nathanael was utterly frozen, totally not anticipating for that to go all that well. Minutes ago he was watching his classmate sitting down, then suddenly violet colored flame-like "things" began penetrating her entire form. He was about to call out to her, worrying that she might get burned, however, the woodling sprite immediately stopped him. Saying that it was a "normal" familiar thing.

The next thing he knew, he saw a black feline sitting where the girl had just previously sat, but he knew that it wasn't a different being that he was staring at, it was still her.

Juleka had winced. She had metamorphosized into a cat.

Her size was that of the average house pet, her fur was black, but not as dark as that of Shadow's. He could spot that it had a tinge of purple (quite reminiscent to those on her hair, he commented). And when she revealed her pupils again, he saw that her usual coppers were transformed into that of the same violet color, he could also swear that they were somehow slightly glowing, though he could blame that on light reflecting, or whatever weird fact that cat anatomy provided.

On the one hand he was exhilarated, but majorly he was already feeling sorry.

Now that she did it, that only meant that she was what he was hypothesizing, a familiar, or probably another type of shapeshifting magical being, either which was the answer, one thing was now clear, she wasn't all human.

The redhead could already feel her dilemma right now.

Unknown to him meanwhile, she was hitherto thinking on the same exact thing.

Freak!

I know!, she exhaustedly replied to the echo., I know.

You did it!

Zelena cheered, attempting to embrace her, however she couldn't fully wrap her arms around her neck, being since she was still smaller.

Oooh! Your fur is so soft.

While that, Juleka then looked at the boy's eyes.

Well, Nathanael. What now?

The ogre circled, terrorizing the gardens with every step at its wake. The woodling sprites were still hiding, and the water sprites were already reveling it as an early victory.

The creature smashed a couple of pots and knocked down a number of trees with one push, it circled and destroyed until suddenly, its nose caught a rather recognizable, and might it add, "scrumptious" aroma. Its eyes widened and it quickly turned around to check, and when it did, it saw of what it had anticipated.

Sitting just right at arm's reach, was a "delicious" black furred feline, staring and looking back at him. Suddenly, all the other things that were riding the ogre's mind began to appear like almost nothing now, the woodling sprites, Trocadero, the search for that annoying peep squeak, all were instantly replaced the moment it eyed the animal, pure craving instincts subtly kicking in, mouth watering, the windows of its soul, reading on that of insatiable hunger.

Juleka, in the form of a cat, twinge at the very sight of how the monster was looking at her, the hairs behind her back threatening to stand (literally) as she shook and withheld a breath. The way it was seeing her was almost, at least according to memory, nearly identical to the one gave off by Granny Spooks. Glutenous eyes, faces which only told "oh what a wonderful snack" the second both beings' attentions was caught on her.

The two faced one another as if like they were unofficially playing a staring contest, their visions never leaving the other until…

The ogre charged.

Quickly knowing that that was her cue, and partly simply because she didn't fancy to get devoured, the girl, in the body of a cat, instinctively leaped, using the might of all her four legs to get away from the gigantic beast, planning not to be at its dinner plate.

Not die. Not die. Not die. Not die!, Juleka chanted repeatedly.

She immediately climbed on the nearest tree, somehow instinctively knowing to retract her claws in order to climb its bark, (she presumed that it was due to feline reflexes), and headed on top of its very branches. The girl's purple orbs watched as the ogre came heading in, and pushed that tree to bring her down. Luckily, however, Juleka hurriedly went and hopped off another branch on another tree, but the ogre knocked that tree off too.

This process continued on and on with the ogre giving chase to its prey.

The situation instantly reminded her of last night's events and how closely they resembled to her. How the hag came that close into killing her that evening still traumatizing the hell out of her, the flashes of her tearing family haunting her mind.

She did not wish to get eaten, she did not desire to die, she did not want to be the cause of her family's cries. As she jumped, she swore a promise to herself that this shall, and will, be the last and final time she would allow herself to become involved within such types of scenarios. But first, before that-

*ROAR!*

The ogre then bellowed loudly, managing to catch the attentions of the sprites once again, heads popping, orbs of lights appearing and showing up.

Unbeknownst to the creature's awareness however, was that, while she may be the one being chased, in actual fact, she was the one who took the control as she was luring it into its own "watery" defeat.

That was the primary difference between this situation and that of Granny Spooks, she wanted to become the prey, she initiated it, and somehow that idea drew a smirk on her face, and made her eyes glow brighter.

She became faster, adrenaline at her side, forcing the ogre to become infuriated with rage, but also more determined to finally having her within its grasps.

And in turn, making her part way more easier.

Finally, Juleka reached the end of the public gardens, leaping off the trees and landing her feet on the concrete road. She halted for a second to allow the ogre to catch up. The trees burst and fell as the now stressed ogre emerge, roaring ever so loudly than before.

Satisfied, the cat ran further, with its chaser following close by.

Not that long, both prey and predator had made their way into the Seine, the girl hopped and balanced herself at the rail.

Panting, the ogre grinned, both hands raising as it slowly walked to its soon to be food.

It became slightly startled when she made a loud growl, but it quickly returned into finally catching her.

Behind, while it was still exhausted and preoccupied, Nathanael ran out from the park, carrying with him the rope in hand. He stopped at the right distance, making a mental picture of the beast as Kung Food, he took a deep and a heavy breath, wishing himself some luck.

Whenever they fall, they rise.

He gripped at the rope tighter, and with one more contemplation, he threw the end part of the item, aiming it on one of the monster's feet.

Then…

…it fell.

Noticing his presence, the ogre turned around and made a puzzled look on the boy holding along a rope that was obscurely lying on the ground.

Nathanael wince, his plan miscalculated by one factor.

His scrawny arms.

Juleka almost mentally face palmed while looking at him with utter pity.

As the ogre began to turn into fury, Nathanael shut his eyes, took another deep breath and exhaled…

… and shouted.

ZELENA! PLAN B!

From the gardens, a long figure of something brown colored popped out and managing to reach itself onto the ogre's left foot.

A little while, it revealed itself to be the root of a tree, with the said tree emerging.

Alright. You can do this., said the sprite as she patted the tree's body sort of like it were a pet.

The ogre raised a brow, seeing their randomness with mild curiosity.

It then bent itself down, attempting to get rid of the root from its ankle. But, before it could do that, traffic cones, soda cans, chip wrappers, rocks, and a couple of dusts came in and showed up, blocking its view while seemingly attacking. It then, once again, tried to swat them off with a great amount of irritation.

Nathanael threw his arms towards its direction, taking a great deal of self-control just to focus on distracting.

From Trocadero again, all the other sprites of all different colors showed, watching the events that the kids were doing unfold.

Now!, the redheaded illustrator cried.

One pull, with one pull from the root, the ogre instantly lost its balance, its enormous body stumbling over the rail before finally splashing over the river.

All quickly looked to check on the ogre. Nathanael, Zelena, the sprites, and Juleka, who hopped back at the rail.

At the cold waters, the ogre popped its head back, spewing water off its mouth, while its arms were busy keeping it afloat.

Oh, forget it!, the creature complained, annoyed more than ever., No amount of fish are worth all this nonsense! I'm outta' here!

Hey!, the water sprite's leader called out., Just where do you think you're going?

You be hearing from my lawyer!, yelled the ogre.

As it swam away and left with a huff and an irritated growl, eyes were suddenly placed solely onto the water sprites, with even the tree Zelena was controlling looking as if it was glaring at them intimidatingly.

Mgragl stared until he made a sigh.

You win for tonight hippies, but mark my words. Trocadero belongs to Us!

And with that they all flew away.

Cheering and celebration noises could be well heard, the woodlings showing gratitude for their heroes.

Back at the gardens, at the area where the woodling sprites dwelled, a small party was held in honor for the two teens. Leaves were used as musical instruments while almost everyone was enjoying themselves as they all danced some kind of traditional dance. Laughter, chats, giggling, all replacing the what had once previous silence caused by fear. Basically, it was a merry scene.

Focus. Concentrate. Listen. Focus. Concentrate. Listen.

She chanted to herself over and over until finally she re-opened her eyes. She looked and saw as everyone was at their regular size, and then she checked on herself and was a bit glad to find her usual form (a bit).

She was a little proud at herself for getting the hang out of her new found ability, but also a bit bothered as well.

She brushed those thoughts aside however when she shook her head, after all, this was supposed to be a happy party, which means, no downers allowed.

The elder, Nathanael, and Zelena, all gave her warm smiles, and she in turn, returned their gesture by making her own.

She made an appreciating nod.

Then came in four sprites, about two pairs, each carrying with them two crowns made from the local flowers. One pair placed a crown onto the girl's head, and the other for the boy. Both of them laughed after the four sprites joined their comrades in all the excitement.

The two sat under a tree while the two sprites hovered by, they watched as the others celebrated, a beautiful display of magical lights literally dancing around, making a fantasy within a world made by reality.

Are you sure I can't take a picture?, Nathanael asked the bearded elder.

Absolutely not., the senior strictly replied., But…I guess there is nothing wrong if you were to simply just come back for some other time with your art supplies. Do that, and you may draw for as much as you please. So long of course that you don't say on how you got it from, got it?

Nathanael nodded., Deal.

The authority figure smiled back before making a (dissatisfied) frown.

As for you young Zelena.

Y-y-yes, Elder., the said sprite stuttered with nervousness.

The Elder looked at her.

Didn't I taught you myself along with the other younglings on regards about violence?, he said, clearly referring to when she used her magic to force the ogre earlier to fall off.

Yes Elder., Zelena said while placing down.

The settling adolescents immediately widened their eyes.

Bu-b-but- that doesn't count as-

She saved your people.

It doesn't matter what her intentions were., he told them., We have rules, and she broke one of our most sacred ones.

You can't do that.

Yeah, I was-

It's fine guys., Zelena stated. She inhaled her nostrils and held her head with dignity., Elder, I will take full responsibility for my actions and will not try to excuse them. I shall take whatever punishment you give and am prepared to face the consequences for my actions.

The old woodling sprite nodded in approval. He nodded at her and she nodded back. After a while, he then left the youths as he attended to the rest of his community. Nathanael and Juleka then glanced at her.

Zelena., Nathanael started., I'm-I'm sorry. It was my fault, if I only knew-

Before he could complete himself, the aforementioned sprite raised her hand to stop him. She then gave the both of them a smile.

Its fine. I'm not mad, so don't worry.

But-, Juleka was about to speak out, however, again, was halted.

Its alright. Ok, so maybe I did kind of screw up once again in my goals., she stated., But…I think..., she looked behind and watched as her community became happy for something she was a part of, she then turned her eyes and gazed as her parents danced merrily too., I am finally one step closer at changing their views than I have ever been., she then faced them., And its all thanks to you!

They both gave her empathic stares, but nevertheless smiled for her determined spirit. All they could do now was to simply wish her luck.

Hey Zee!

Someone called out from the crowd and they spotted Eceny with her group, waving their hands to gesture her to join them. Zelena grinned with excitement and hastily flew to them in an instant. Soon, all that was left was the two teens.

She seems happier now., Juleka commented, along of course with her regular low volumed voice.

Yeah. But I still do feel bad though., replied Nathanael, referring about earlier, how it was his idea to make Zelena do what she did.

Juleka looked at him consolingly before offering him a soft smile.

Well, she said., don't feel too bad about it, maybe you can make it up to her. You are planning to come back, aren't you?

Nathanael seized from moving for a short while, he thought as he watched the scenery surrounding him, the sight of the woodling sprites dancing around and just having a good time. His lips curled upwards.

Yeah., he answered., How about you?

The girl shot a glance at him with her still violet color eyes prior to returning them.

I'm not sure.

Hmm?, the boy became confused so Juleka thought it best for her to elucidate.

While I do think all this is beautiful, she gazed at the scenery., I…also think that I should have some time to myself for a while, you know, to ingest all of these things. Yesterday I turned into a mouse, and tonight I turned into a cat, at this point I wouldn't even be surprised if tomorrow, when I look at the mirror, I'll find myself a poodle., she then chuckled before her face went grey again., Also, I…kind of got lucky tonight, so that's a thing., by "lucky", she was alluding to the fact that she once again had avoided the likely fate of getting eaten.

Nathanael suddenly dropped his shoulders.

And… I guess I was partly responsible for that one huh?

The girl tensed.

I'm not saying I'm blaming you.

No. No., he countered., I am kinda responsible for those.

*Sigh*

It's been a long night, hasn't it?

Same like yesterday.

Both then chortled, laughing of how accurate her statement was. In all honesty it has been a long and difficult couple of nights, both having them clash against creatures and beings they once wouldn't even have minded much of, at most simply in behalf because they never considered of them literally existing. Whether it would be a cannibalistic old lady, a bunch of self-awared silhouettes, tiny packaged-sized loud mouths, or a giant grunt with temper issues, all of them proved to be in essence, the same, instances in which they wouldn't want a repeat of.

Nathanael internally sneered to himself, finding it oddly weird on how precise his mothers were.

The magical world was indeed dangerous, and in a city where innocent civilians could so easily turn into maniacal supervillains, it was a statement that rings more truths than anything else probably could. And the worst part, is that now he was a part of it.

A dreadful surge of electricity ran down his spine, making him jump. So, he chose to change the topic at hand. He turned and watched again as Zelena was having fun, to see her happy right now was definitely in polar opposite to the sorrowful expression she was displaying about an hour ago.

Do you think she'll be fine?

He turned his face towards Juleka, shocked she was thinking the same thing.

Hope so., he responded. He remembered when she confessed about her backstory, the truth on why she started on her own "miniquest" to find some warriors.

To be always constantly told that she was unwanted, that much Juleka can empathize with, however, the other at least knew her goals, and now, like she said, she finally had a starting point to walk on. She was glad for her, and truly wished her for the best of luck.

At least she has her first step.

Nathanael caught her words and smirked.

Don't you mean, first "flap"?

The purple headed teenager tilted her head in confusion, so Nathanael decided to clarify.

You know, "flap", since she has wings. Or do those things just vibrate? Shake? Flap-Shake? I'll…stop talking now., he concluded awkwardly, and that, not the joke, was what made her laugh a bit.

As everyone partied, from the crowd, two sprites flew in near them. A red one and a yellow one. Both simultaneously appearing nervous about something.

Umm… excuse me., the red one called to Nathanael specifically., My-my friend here wishes to ask you something.

-You ask him.

-No you.

Nathanael looked at them curiously.

Shoot.

The two sprites twinged as they self-cautiously tried to make themselves more comfortable and presentable.

W-we would just like to ask, are you… by any chance… applying yourself to becoming as the new Sorcerer?

Sorcerer?, he repeated back. He had heard Zelena mention that word before, back prior to all the chaos and destruction had started.

Did you say Sorcerer?

Not long after, the music stopped playing, all dancing had seized as everyone began almost crowding the young boy.

-Sorcerer?

-You want to become as the new Sorcerer?

-That's a pretty big ambition?

-Ooh, yes, apply as Sorcerer!

-I believe in you, whatever-your-name-is!

They all pressed on him, flooding him with questions and inquiries in which he couldn't even understand, the poor boy instantly felt anxious, but fortunately the Elder stepped in, and told them to give him some space.

*Sigh* Thank you.

The Elder nodded.

It's getting late., said the senior., You both should better get going, its still a weekday after all.

But…what about the damages?, the girl pointed at some of the fallen trees.

From his bushy face, the old woodling sprite made a warming smile.

Not to worry about that. Since you've saved us, we would all be more than happy to clean up.

All agreed by cheering and nodding their heads.

With a wave of his staff (stick) sparkling green dust, same as that of Zelena's, took form and appeared as he directed to one of the trees that had fell. From there, suddenly, its roots began moving, and the tree stood up on its own independently. Its roots then dug itself back into the earth, and soon it was as good as new, almost as if it was never knocked down.

The teenagers watched in astonishment at the display. Although they have already seen such a phenomenon before, it was still a bit different when one is not beings chased by a large looming monster.

In behalf of my people., he bowed., I, thank you.

I thank you too!, the all too recognizable sprite popped in., Thank you for everything, if ever you need help, or if you simply just want some good fruit juice to drink, please know that you are free to ask me for favors any time., then she bowed herself while smiling.

Both of them reciprocated her smile, and her gesture.

So, what do you say?, Juleka asked her companion.

He made another devious smile.

I would say…tail.

Baffled by his reply, the girl tilted, then abruptly, she sensed something moving from behind her, and her eyes had nearly gorged out when she checked.

Oh. Tail.

Now outside of Trocadero, somewhere within the sleeping streets with only the streetlamps to guide them, Nathanael and Juleka rode on their respective bikes until they had to part ways.

Juleka stepped her right foot off from her paddle and placed them on the road for balance. She then pointed her head at a certain direction.

This is where I'm heading., she said to him.

The boy smiled and nodded.

I guess that I'll just see you tomorrow at school then, huh?

When she realized that, her face made a slightly shocked expression, but immediately got over it right away.

Yeah, guess.

Nathanael then frowned and gave her another sympathetic look.

Juleka, are you sure that you're ok on the idea of being…you know…

Of course she wasn't, the very thought or mental imagery of being "not all human" bothered her to an excruciating level. She hated the mere mention of it. The very conclusion that she was "different" from every person she knew caused her skin to turn pale. But she wasn't going to say that, he probably already had dozens of personal issues on his shoulders, such as his mothers for one.

Besides, she was already quite used to being treated as a…freak.

I'll manage.

He didn't seem like he was satisfied with that reply, but if he was, he surely didn't show it.

That's good.

The redhead then gazed ahead of himself, breathing in and breathing out. He checked his left palm, looking at it keenly prior to returning them to his bicycle's handle again. He then took another glance at her.

You know, for all its worth, tonight wasn't really all that bad.

Ironically, she couldn't quite help but agree with him, now that she thought about it, her evening experience had turned out more well than she had initially anticipated, minus the fear and terror.

Of course, she wasn't planning to do it again anytime soon.

They then shared one final nod before heading into different directions, smiles on their faces as they went on home.

A woman was walking on a quiet hallway as her heels tapped the floor with every step she took.

Her face was still and steady, showing no signs of emotions whatsoever. Within her arms, she was carrying a folder, read on it was a single word, written in red and in capitals.

CLASSIFIED

Finally, as she had reached the end of the halls, a French door, made from fine wood was awaiting. She was about to knock on it before a male voice called out from the other side.

Come in!

The woman opened, and there she was met by two men, one was standing formally while wearing a typical driver's uniform. The other man, meanwhile, was sitting on his desk, a smirk on his lips.

Sir., the woman spoke., the results for the research conducted by our historians are here.
