Ch. 10 Yuletide Serenity

December 25, 1994 (Avalon)

The teens awoke to a lively scene bustling around Emrys Hall, despite only the three of them there. Their light breakfast, curtesy of Ruby, worked to heighten the atmosphere of cheer as the group tucked in before heading to the sitting room to trade gifts. All moving at a sedated pace even with them soon needing to depart for the castle and the festivities of the night.

From Merlin, the teens each received three exceptional gifts. Harry receiving an Enchanted Runic Bracelet, a typical yule gift passed from one male Emrys to another that added a new layer of defense, on top of Merlin's teachings, for him against a limited number of nefarious potions and charms. Along with the Emrys family gift he also received post NEWTs collections on Curse breaking, Wards, and Battle Magiks, lastly in a joint present from him and Sirius they gifted him a photo album full of pictures from various days of import. Harry soon learned they had used his pensive memories to supply the photos. The last leaving not a dry eye.

Once emotions were back under control, Hermione proceeded to open her gifts as well. She was gifted a delicate ring with the same protections as Harry, A section of the Emrys Grimoire that Pa and Harry both agreed to release to her alone on Advanced Arithmancy and Magical theory, and a surprise magical photo of both her and Harry the first day after training in Avalon. Both were seated on the couch, 'Tauva above them and Crookshanks splayed across their laps, each leaning into the other as they slept in front of the fire. Before waking up and blushing at each other for the comfort they felt around the other. As she handed the photo to Harry, she could feel a swell of pride coming from him and witnessed the utter happiness that bloomed in his face from the casual image.

Collaborating together for Pa's gifts the couple gifted him The Adventures of Merlin book series as a gag gift, which they had come to learn were completely fiction, and a handmade Emrys Family Plaque that listed every member of the family up to its end at Harry. Earning yet again teary eyes and a whispered thank you from the elder mage.

Moments before Harry and Hermione were set to leave Merlin pulled Harry off to a side room with a stern look,

"Now listen young man. I expect nothing less than your finest effort for that Lady out there." Holding his hand up to forestall Harrys rebuttal. "Harry, again, I doubt you would provide her with anything less than the greatest evening. I am simply reminding you that even without a current Magical Head of House, she is a lady to two Most Ancient and Noble Houses. That will demand certain actions from you towards her." Noting a growing frown but subtle nod from Harry, Merlin smiled before finishing his statement. "More important than any of that though…You both are absolutely besotten with each other. Treat her as a Lady but enjoy the wonders of your growing relationship with her. Sirius and I are both in agreement that it has been one of the most magical things to watch over the last year here in Avalon. Now do not forget your Yule Ball gift for her."

Finishing his monolog to the now grinning boy, he tossed him the gift for the evening before leading him back out to Hermione. She could not help but smirk at her blushing boyfriend and his attempts, unsuccessfully, to hide the wrapped package from her.

Hermione and Harry both arrived after breakfast to an atmosphere in the Gryffindor Common Room not unlike Avalon earlier that morning. The couple descended their respective staircases to see Luna dragging Neville along into the common room to take part in the groups gift exchange. Both chuckling at the excited young witch. Luna receiving a family pendant from Neville, a silver lace shawl to match the evening's dress robes from Harry, and an enchanted and transfigured Crumple-horned Snorkack surprisingly from Hermione. At the awed look from the young Ravenclaw Hermione smiled while saying,

"Well, when you do eventually find one having this animated decoy should draw wild ones to it, right? Allowing you more time to study them…" She never got to finish as Luna threw herself into Hermione's arms. Knocking both over in the process. Easily earning a laugh from the two boys.

Neville's gifts from Luna included a book on herbology and a few rare plants seeds from her and her father had collected from their travels, Hermione gifted him a book along the same vein that talked about best practices for harvesting plants for potions and how timing of their harvest plays a role in the plant's efficacy for various potions. Last, from Harry and Sirius, was their gift. A hand-crafted photo album completely created from Sirius' pensive memories that included scenes from his parents lives and courting during their time in Hogwarts, their wedding, and his birth. While openly weeping Neville noted that the album was incomplete. With a questioning glance at Harry and Hermione the couple replied,

"Those last pages are for when you find the cure for them…" Harry stated

"When you introduce them to their daughter-in-law and grandchildren…" Hermione continued

"Simply it is to show that you never need to give up hope. We will find a way to cure them and give you the family you deserve… I promise you that your time with them has not passed" Harry finished with Neville crushing the two in a massive hug.

"T..Thank yyyou, Harry, Hermione. Please pass on my thanks to your godfather as well for this precious gift." The young man whispered to his friends. Both smiling as they nodded to him.

Hermione's gifts from Neville included two 50 galleon gift certificates to Flourish and Blott's & Tomes and Scrolls, earning a playful glare from the woman to her friend. Neville simply stating to her,

"Hermione how in all that is magic could I possibly know what books you do or don't have… Let alone the entire contents of a library that Harry gifted you in one day…" Earning him a laugh from the group before he continued, "If you cannot find a good read from either store then the wizarding world is truly full of more small minded idiots than we thought."

"Thank you, Neville." Hermione stated across him hoping to avoid any further friendly digs at her about her reading habits as she opened Luna's gift. As the book fell out of the neat wrapping, she couldn't help but gasp at the priceless family heirloom the young women gifted her. A Healer' Hand by Lillian Le Fay

"L..Luna, hhhow did you come across t..this?" Hermione stuttered out as she reverently held the book

"Why? It's your family's, right?" Luna asked, her face full of confusion

"Yes.." Hermione hissed out before realizing what the girl asked, "H..How did you know?"

"Oh, was I not supposed to?" Luna asked, quirking her eyebrow before gaining a dejected look, "I's sorry you don't like it…"

"No no no Luna I love it!" Hermione exclaimed cutting her off. "It's just a shock that you know. I assumed that only Harry and I knew… We were trying to keep it a secret within our families for the time..."

"Ahh. Ok. Well, are you going to open the rest of your gifts?" Luna asked returning her attention to the Snorkack oblivious to the world once again. Harry smirking to his girlfriend as he handed her his gift. All in the group knowing its contents. Hermione was certainly not prepared for the contents even with her theory being correct. Surrounding the jewelry box was a gold and blue lace wrap. Inside, the black velvet box, held a pinky length, oval shaped periwinkle gem, surrounded by perfect-cut clear diamonds, set in gold with a white gold chain. The tasteful necklace was not what surprised her though. That response was saved for the two notes she found within the box. One from Harry's father to his mother in celebration of their engagement ball prior to the end of their 7th year, and the second from Harry.

Dearest Hermione,

Happy Yule!

Please accept this gift and its intentions. To me, your worth, brilliance, and beauty far outstrip any and all of my family's priceless heirlooms. Much the same as with my mother, I wanted to gift this to you as the first of hopefully many for your own collection before our first ball together.

Just like the brilliant stone, centered within this piece, surrounded by matching diamonds, you are the beauty and light that shines through for me. The unique within a crowd of replicas.

Please also accept this as my thanks for all the help you have and continue to give. I hope that I can continue to prove worthy of your efforts.

Yours as long as you'll have me,

Harry

"Thank you, Harry. Of course, I'll wear it." She answered to his unasked question. Both of their faces carrying a soft smile.

Luna and Neville gifted Harry a package of sweets and a professional rune carving kit. Hermione surprised him with another photo this one from the brilliant part of summer they spent with each other. Both of them where flanked on each side by her parents. Her and him leaning into one and other. Harry could not help but gaze at the photo reverently.

"Thank you, Hermione." He whispered as he hugged her tightly.

The Hours of the day flew by for the foursome before Hermione and Luna bogged off to prepare for the evening 4 hours prior resulting in both boys shaking their heads. After a short training session, consisting of Neville progressing through being taught the Patronus Charm, and trip to the kitchens, both found themselves relaxing near the fireplace of their common room. As they settled in Harry probed Neville about their coming evening,

"Excited Nev?"

"Y..You bet Harry. Im just glad L..Luna accepted." The teen replied before slightly grimacing at a thought that passed

Curious about the short shift in his friend's features Harry asked, "Of course she would Nev. Why would you think she wouldn't?"

"Well, I was actually intending to ask Ginny… I eventually located her and Luna in the Library Facing away from the entrance. As I approached them, I got a good listen to Ginny going on about how Hermione stole you from her and you should never be with that 'Slag'. That you probably where just with her for benefits while waiting for a real woman. I was incensed at her, but all Luna did was smile and greet me. I swear to you Harry, Ginny could not have been any paler at hearing I was behind her after that vicious rant of hers. Then on top of it, the entire time I fumbled through asking Luna, she looked at me as if me asking her to the ball was the most obvious decision I should have made. Its pleasing but also so unnerving, Mate…"

Sighing at yet another Weasley that he did not wish to deal with, Harry, as he pinched the bridge of his nose, stated, "Well Nev, I think you easily made the right choice… Godric knows why Ginny feels she has some claim over me. I can count on one hand the number of conversations me and her have ever had, mate… Let's just enjoy our evening with our beautiful women." Neville replied with a smile. Easily agreeing with Harry. As they both heard the bell ring Neville checked his watch, blanching at the time.

"Harry! We need to get ready… We must have spent far longer training than we thought."

"What are you on about, Nev. We have plenty…"

"No mate. We only have an hour and a quarter to get ready… If we don't hurry, we will be caught behind all the other berks in our dorm."

"Fair…" Harry agreed, running his hands through his hair, as they both rose. Heading off to get ready.

50 minutes later found Harry pacing a hole in the floor at the base of the stairs. Neville and Luna having departed not 10 minutes earlier. Luna with a sly smile stated to the nervous teen, as she was led out of the common room by Neville,

"You will find the wait is well worth it, Harry."

Turning for the hundredth time as he paced the sound of a door softly opening and closing met his ears. His line of sight darting up towards the noise coming from the top of the stairs that led into the girl's dormitory. At her slow descent, Harry's mind went blank, eyes widened, and his mouth dried at the sudden gasp. He couldn't believe his luck. That the ethereal vision of beauty approaching him was his Hermione. His reaction bolstering her soft smile and shining eyes as they brightened even further.

Neither teens eyes left the other as they strode to each other. Hermione patiently waiting for Harry's brain to reengage. Any nervousness, she could have had, never mounting within her at his palpable expression of awe and care. The couple never realizing their complete relaxation on the reigns of their magic. Resulting in tendrils of magic from them suddenly reaching out, meeting the other, and accepting the others before quickly settling back within themselves, control returning. With an absolute feeling of contentment Harry said, barely above a whisper, after he bowed and kissed her offered hand,

"My Lady. You have made me the luckiest mage attending the ball tonight. Your beauty is simply unmatched. Athena herself would pale beside your presence."

"Thank you, milord." She stated with a small curtsy working overtime to control her blush at his words. "You look quite dashing yourself."

Nodding a thank you Harry quickly pulled out a final gift for the evening. As he opened, revealing a deep blue and gold rose corsage he said,

"Merlin helped with the enchanting. At the end of the night, once you take it off it will crystalize into a broach. I hope you like it my dear." Hermione simply nodded and extended her left hand, afraid to voice her gratitude at his thoughtfulness, for him to place it on her wrist.

Offering her his arm he asked, "Milady shall I have the honor to escort you this evening?"

"Lead on kind Sir." Hermione responded as she looped her arm through his.

A stern Professor McGonagall accosted the couple as they neared the other champions outside the great hall. At seeing the couple, her expression softened before she asked, "Could not help but delay us tonight? Hmm, Mr. Potter."

Sensing the playful banter in her tone Harry replied, "Why of course, Professor McGonagall. It is quite the task, perfecting this windswept look. Surely you know this Professor. You, after all, had seven years to familiarize yourself with my father and his similarly arduous task…" His retort earning him a subtle twitch in Minnie's thinned lip and a full-on grin from Hermione.

"Oh hush Harry." Hermione whispered into his ear. "If you and Professor McGonagall continue on much longer, we will miss the entire ball."

"Yes, Dear…" He responded coyly earning a whipping sound from Cedric and chuckles from the rest of the group.

"Yes. Yes. Well, let us get a move on. Miss Delacour you shall lead us out, Mr. Krum to follow, Mr. Diggory 3rd and to close us out Mr. Potter." McGonagall stated. With a nod from the group, she thrust open the doors to the Great Hall announcing each of their entrances and the start of the festivities. At Harry and Hermione's entrance they both caught bits of people's statements through the cheers

"…look at Delacour!"

"How did Davies luck into th…"

"…should have been asked by Krum!"

"No way! That's Granger on Potter's Arm!"

"What are you on about?"

"That pair cleans up well."

"Lucky Bin…"

'Founders above its good Harry didn't hear that last comment' Hermione thought to herself as she glanced toward him, glad she saw no reaction, as they rounded the corner leading up to the head table which was set up to host the Champions for the meal portion of the evening.

"Thank you, Harry" Hermione stated sweetly as Harry pulled out her chair for her before seating himself to her left, saving her from dealing with Percy who was here in place of Crouch who was sick. At his actions she gave him a grateful look before turning to Fleur to discuss differences each had noticed. Before long the Headmaster stood opening the start of the feast,

"Thank you to our honored guests for celebrating this blessed Yule with us this winter. Tuck in!" Dumbledore stated with a raised glass, before seating himself again. He then looked down at his plate and spoke clearly, "Pork Chops."

With his pronouncement his plate filled with 2 lean cuts of grilled pork, sautéed vegetables and whipped potatoes with a glass of light red wine beside it. Harry witnessing this turned to Hermione, quirking his eyebrow. The unasked question obvious.

"Yes, Harry I would like to share," Hermione said stating the obvious before turning to her dish, "Croque Monsieur and Chips"

"Coq Au Vin" Harry stated repeating the same action as Hermione. As the plates filled, Dobby also filled Harry and Hermione's glasses with a La Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 1982 while also splitting their dishes between the two. Earning the pair, a host of incredulous looks from the other champions. Neither caring as they clinked their glasses together and dug in for their wonderful meal. Eventually relenting under Fleur's look, Hermione requested a glass of the same vintage for the women as well.

At her first sip, a groan escaped her lips before Fleur exclaimed "Zis, zis is what zis castle is missing. Magnifique! How did you get zis, 'Arry? 'Ermione?"

"It is one of our favorite selections that is stored at the Potter Winter Villa in Southern France. Quite surprising it is available to us, If I'm honest, considering its year. I must assume my Father or Mum, prior to their passing, set it up to consistently purchase new vintages from the vineyard. I am please you find it suitable. Please simply ask for more if you desire." Harry answered before turning back to his meal and one-sided conversation with Percy. Missing the thoughtful look growing upon Fleur's face. Hermione not missing it asked in French,

"What is it Fleur?"

"'Ermoine, my family lives in the villa neighboring the exact house 'Arry mentioned… For the longest time my parents would not tell us who it was that lived there but never visited… We should have grown up with each other. It's so obvious now.." The young women replied to her question with no small hint of sorrow. Her voice finishing barely above a whisper. Hermione quick to pick up her tone gave her a questioning look.

Fleur continued, "While I made the worst of first impressions to 'Arry, it is now quite easy to see he holds all of the characteristics Veela find so attractive, in spades…" Placing her hand on the younger witch to calm her before she continues, "Non, I can easily feel that his heart is yours to do with as you wish. I am sorrowful at the loss of a friendship I could have cherished without any fear of my allure causing issues… 'Arry should have grown up with my family nearby. To have been able to experience a friendship like I have perceived with the two of you would have made for a far improved childhood. From the little I have gleaned in my time here it is easy to say that all three of us experienced lonely childhoods and could have benefited from closer friendships."

At her understanding of Fleur's words, Hermione replied, "Fleur, while I am sure that you did indeed make the Worst of impressions, simply apologize to him and it will be in the past. For him it probably is, believing, I'm sure, that you acted that way simply to protect yourself. He would appreciate your kind words. Maybe see if your parents remember any interactions with his family. Harry is quite starved for family stories and tails…"

"Thank you 'Ermione for your insight…" She paused before her next question gathering her resolve before it had time to flee, "Would you be willing to switch partners for a dance or two so I may offer my apologies?" Gaining a small smile and a nod from the Young Gryffindor, Fleur brightened up at her acceptance. Before Fleur could continue with other topics Hermione had to ask with a small hint of worry,

"W..What are these t..traits you spoke of that H..Harry has so much of?"

The Beauxbaton's Witch, now blooming out in a full-on grin, pulled her close as she whispered, "Obviously he is powerful. You both are… You both need to continue to work on controlling your auras. They slip from your control quite readily during highly emotional times. The ease with which he delt with the worst sort of dragons was overwhelming. He is completely unmoved by my allure to the point where I am not sure he even notices it. He is passion, just as Veela are beings of fire, we too are passionate people and require the same from our partners. I can now see that he is wise and mature beyond his years and probably never was a little boy, as I mistakenly spoke. At times I could see his viewing me as childish. I would say, though, of the utmost importance, is that he is utterly faithful to those he cares for and is the day of reckoning for those that would dare cause those he cherishes harm. You are quite lucky, non?"

Hermione stared at her open-mouthed at the quick synopsis the young woman next to her had given. As she snuck a glance at Harry, she noticed his smirk as he also glanced towards the two women before returning to his apple tart. 'Of course, you've been able to hear this entire conversation you prat…my prat.'

"Yes, I would agree I am quite lucky. I have no doubt that he would attempt to argue that he is far luckier though. He certainly can be mature beyond his years, but it is a blessing when you get to experience his mischievous, childish side the few times he allows it out. Thank you for sharing… Truly Veela are searching for the same traits all women are… Your magic just allows you to have a greater sensitivity to your desired traits and to sus out the ideal partner for yourself… T..That's quite remarkable."

"Qui. It is but as I have said and you have witnessed," Fleur's hand gesturing to her partner for the evening, "The benefits come at a cost… just as all magic does 'Ermione." All further talk was halted at the Headmasters low level concussive spell to gain everyone's attention.

"Now that everyone is properly sated… can the champions and their dates for the evening lead us in opening the ball tonight with the honor of the evenings first dance." Dumbledore stated to all.

Hermione excited to experience their first dance together, at the Headmaster's statement, did not even wait for Harry's offer. Simply standing the two of them up herself and leading them out to the dance floor, Harry laughing at her fervor. Once the four champions and partners were spaced out Dumbledore addressed the crowd once again,

"Everyone please give a warm welcome to our entertainment for the evening… The Weird Sisters…" Whatever he had next to say was drowned out as the band started opening dance with a waltz.

With practiced ease Hermione melded into Harry's arms as they relaxed into the dance. Their world shrinking to the other. Eyes only for the other with gentle smiles adorning their faces. What almost all of the crowd did not realize a subtle casting of matching wandless Notice-Me-Not Charm and a Compulsion Charm to avoid them that enveloped the couple as they glided across the floor, to detract from unwanted attention for the night. Unknown to Harry, one pair of blue eyes situated behind half-moon glasses he wished to avoid never moved from their form.

Neither caring for the length of time between that first dance and when they finally dropped the charms to leave for a drink. On their way to the drinks the couple witnessed Ron being dragged away from the both of them by the twins. Silently both thinking of how to thank the twins for shielding their evening from that unwanted advance.

Towards the latter half of the evening Fleur approached Harry and Hermione asking to cut in for a dance to which Hermione easily agreeing. After thanking them for agreeing Harry led her out for their dance. As they started Fleur quickly started the conversation she wished to have.

"You two 'ave been a difficult couple to find zis evening 'Arry" Fleur said with a smile

With a crooked grin Harry replied, "Well that's because of the charms and compulsions that we've been putting up to avoid the sheep that surround us right now. I'd wager they are powerful enough to even keep the idiots around us from being affected by the full brunt of your allure. If it pleases you, we can switch to speaking in French."

"Thank you 'Arry," Fleur quickly answered, switching to French, "And thank you also for being willing to let me have an opportunity to apologize to you for my behavior the night of the selection…"

"It is in the past Fleur. No harm." Harry said cutting her off

"Again, thank you but it still was not right for…" Harry again cutting her off to offer his reasoning for needing no apology.

"Fleur I knew that night your tone and action was a mask to protect yourself. Until recently I was well adept at hiding behind those masks in an effort to protect myself. There were other aspects to that evening situation that needed my tone and response to be thus. If anything, I must apologize for my tone towards you. I would love to move on. Maybe become friends…Now how about you ask me the question you desire to?"

With a hint of nervousness she asked, "'Arry w..wwould you allow me relax control of my allure? I promise that I have no intention of ensnaring you with it." She finished looking at him pleadingly. Harry easily answering with a nod and smile.

At his answer her entire demeanor shifted. As if a mountain was immediately lifted from her shoulders. Her smile brightened, growing wider, as the last of her control was relaxed. Harry, easily recognizing just how much of an effect this brilliant woman would have on the Great Hall, simply shrugged comfortable in his belief that his magic would contain the affect of her magic from people surrounding them, allowing her this reprieve. All the while the pair maintained their step to the beat. A handful of songs later with a bow Harry said,

"Thank you, Fleur, for your enchanting company, and I greatly appreciate your apology. I will give you a moment to gain your allure back within your control before I dispel my magic. As I mentioned I do hope we can move forward as friends." He finished with a kiss to her knuckles

"Friends. Most certainly 'Arry. And thank you for your offered apology even if it was never warranted." She replied, not even attempting to mask just how much she enjoyed finally being able to completely relax her control over her allure. Looping her arm in his they departed the floor in search of their dates, Harry canceling his charms at her nod, confirming she had her magic back under control. Each thanking the others partner for allowing them to share a dance. Hermione, eager to return to dancing, dragged Harry back out. A small groan escaping Harry's lips as she did.

"You have had plenty of rest milord. Now how about you continue to show a lady a good time, hmm." She stated to him as they departed Fleur and Rodger. Neither noticing the look of longing that quickly decorated the French Witches features at their departure…

The close of the ball saw Harry and Hermione leaving the Great Hall as the final couple McGonagall had to herd out. They were spared the ire she directed towards the more blatant forms of passion some couples where showing, both believing they heard her grumbling about this generation having no sense of propriety. The happy couple, leaning into each other, simply enjoying the company of the other, as they approached the grand staircase that led towards the Gryffindor common room were ambushed by Cedric and Cho.

"Good Evening Harry, Aye?" Cedric posed as he noted the closeness of the couple.

"Brilliant Cedric. Best Yule I've ever had…" Harry easily replied before asking, "What can I do for you Cedric?"

The older teen glanced around the hall, checking for anyone who may overhear them. Noting no one of consequence he leaned forward as he whispered to Harry, "Have you cracked the egg yet?"

"No, we think we are close though," Harry stated sparing a glance to Hermione, "My guardians already know what it says but refused to give us the answer until February if we were unsuccessful in deciphering it by then…" The two teens miffed at themselves for not having figured it out by now.

"Err… Yea well.. listen Harry take a bath with your egg. It will help…" Cedric whispered

"Take a bath with it?" Harry blurted out looking at the young wizard incredulously

Cedric nodding continued not bothering with Harry's tone or look growing across his face, "Yea… a bath… Actually, take it to the prefect's bathroom on the fifth floor. Password is Pine Fresh."

"Your serious?!" Harry still not comprehending the teen in front of him.

"Deadly. Remember password is Pine Fresh… have a pleasant evening you two." Cedric finished returning to Cho to lead her back towards her dorm.

Harry, who stood stiff as he stared at their departing forms until they turned the corner, looked to Hermione who simply shrugged her shoulders before looping her arm back into his and leaned into him as they restarted their trek back to the common room. The air around them settling into comfortable silence as they traveled.

Soon reaching the Fat Ladies portrait they both situated themselves onto one of the many couches facing the dwindling fire. Hermione leaning into Harry as he wrapped his arms comfortably around her center. Neither wishing to separate from the other as they relished in the contact their closeness gave them. Hermione, while still staring into the fire spoke finally,

"You realize he was giving you the answer we have been searching for without really giving you the answer, right?"

"I do… It's more than I expected though. Even with giving them what the 1st task was…" Harry replied with a hint of venom lacing his voice

Tilting her head up to his as she gazed into his eyes she smiled and kissed his cheek, "You're growing into a noble young man, Harry. Not everyone would wish to have this competition be fair or so easily give away an advantage." She paused for a second before continuing, "Simply take what you are given and nothing more… I cannot describe how proud you have made me, and you will win out in the end."

Smiling at her words he lay a kiss on top of her head, softly saying after, "I hope I continue to earn your approval and that you'll keep me in line when its needed." Hermione snorting at his last words

"That's a tall order, Mr. Potter… We might have to discuss further payment on top of the back pay you owe. Do you know how much effort I've had to put in, simply to this point, and not ever been able to keep you in line." She retorted with no small amount of mirth. Harry ducking his head to hide his blush.

After a moment he finally replied into her ear, "True. Yes, but would you ever really want to go through all that effort a second time to train up another humble soul to the point you've finally gotten me to?"

Hermione harrumphed at his words before shaking her head, "Godric help me no… I've only just now gotten you here and it took 4+ years. Barely even half-way trained up you are… Going through that a second time would grey me out prematurely…" she paused in order to gain a pouty, puppy dog look before continuing, "You wouldn't subjugate poor, sweet little me to that torture, would you?" nibbling on her bottom lip as she finished.

"Circe, woman that look should be illegal." Harry stated as his whole body shuttered at her, "No dear I wouldn't… Returning to the start of this discussion, when do you want to go 'take a bath with the egg'?"

"Smooth Potter… Smooth." She giggled back, "Let's wait for after the new year. We've been pushing extremely hard. I feel we have earned a break, don't you?" After seeing his nod, she burrowed into his side as they settled in for watching the fire in silence once again.

As quickly as they settled into comfort the clock struck 1pm. With no desire of being discovered by McGonagall this late they both stood from their spots. Harry dragging his feet in any attempt to prolong their time together. Earning him a huff from Hermione,

'Honestly, Harry… I have loved this evening, truly, but getting in trouble is not how I desire to end our evening… No matter how close you and Aunt Minnie are…"

"Ok, ok Hermione. I'm sorry. I had an amazing night with you as well. I don't think it would have been even close to pleasurable without you by my side." Both stopped at the base of stairs leading towards the girl's dormitory. As he gazed into her eyes for the final time of the evening his magic subconsciously flared around them before he kissed her knuckles before laying a kiss on her cheek.

"Good night, my Hermione." He whispered to her

Flushing pleasantly at his possessive phrasing she lightly shook her head as her lip twitched. Deciding she enjoyed it she replied after a kiss to his cheek, "Good night, my Harry." She whispered into his ear, pleased at the light shiver in his demeanor she noted her words created as her breath blew across his ear. Both releasing the others hands she turned, retreating up the staircase into the 4th year girl's dorm.

Harry could not help but smile at her receding form. Internally feeling truly blessed she would be willing to choose him. As she disappeared into her dorm he turned towards his stairs and his preparations for bed. Entering his dorm, he quickly approached his trunk to grab his washroom things. Never having a chance to deactivate his wards, he was struck from behind with some object. Noting blood already on the ground from the wound as he collapsed onto the ground, the last thing he heard before the 'pop' of his ribs breaking and him passing out at the aggressor's kick was,

"Selfish Prick… learn your place…"

With a groan as he woke, Harry found himself once again at Madam Pomfrey's mercies within the hospital wing. Noting something enveloping his right hand he looked to see Hermione asleep still in her Yule Ball dress, her hair as bushy as ever. As he took in her form, he couldn't help but swell with pride that she was here for him, finding her as beautiful as ever as he stared. 'I need to stop ending up in here for her. Can't have her getting grey hairs too soon because of me. She'd neuter me…'

Dragging his eyes from her he finally noted his Godfather seated on his left and the matron to the foot of the bed. Both grinning a knowing smile. Possibly for different reasons. He couldn't be sure. Sirius unable to hold back asked,

"Eventful evening Pup?"

Grimacing at his Godfather Harry replied, "Obviously it was a serious evening…" his pun never finishing as Hermione awoke to his words.

"Harry. James. Potter." She punctuated each with a prod to the sternum, "You were viciously attacked. This is no time to joke… especially with name puns… Honestly." At being taken to task Harry had the wherewithal to at least gain a look of embarrassment.

"Yes Dear. I'm sorry for worrying you." He mumbled out to her as she simply crawled into his hospital bed to be held by him. Harry noting a dual chuckle from Sirius and Amelia, who had now arrived, at the couples antics. Harry after wrapping his Girlfriend in his arms continued, "So who got the plate number of the lorry that ran me over?"

"Tut Tut… Mr. Potter. Really? Enough with the jokes. How are you feeling?" Madam Pompfrey questioned

"Im Fi…" Harry started before he withered under Hermione's glare. Clearing his throat, he began again, "I feel decent Poppy. A bit sore in the ribs and my head is pounding." The Matron quickly left his bed side to grab him a headache and pain potion to help with his lingering symptoms. His view now unimpeded, Harry glanced around the room noting only one other bed filled from the night before. Noting the redhead asleep in the bed with both legs heavily bandaged Harry asked the group,

"What happened to Ron?" his voice filled with concern only to become more confused at the venomous scowls all those around his bed gained from his question.

"Do not concern yourself with that piece of filth, Harry." Hermione bit out. Only for her to sigh even more at his confusion. "Harry, that walking waste of space is the reason you've been laid up in a magically controlled coma for almost three days…" Noting his quickly darkening features she pushed on, "If Neville had not walked in at the time, he did there is no telling what could have happened to you. If you ask me Weasley over there got off lightly…"

"How did Neville let him off lightly?" Harry questioned deciding that he needed more information if he was going to require further retribution.

Sirius with a bark of a laugh hopped into the conversation at this question, "The Longbottom Heir was right brilliant, Harry. Acted almost on instinct. Soon as he saw the situation, he banished Weasley into a pilar of his four-poster bed, swatted the prats bone breaker hex back at 'em, then incarcerated him and to add insult conjured a handful of spiders to torment the bugger as he tended to you waiting for Poppy and Minerva to arrive." Harry bubbled with pride at Sirius' words for his friend's actions.

'Well done, Nev. Ol' Wolfe might have been on to something with his description of you' Harry thought smiling at the description of his friend and his actions. "Sirius can you see to it about getting him a gift for his actions. Something from the House of Potter. I am unsure if you would wish for him to be gifted something from the House of Black." Sirius easily agreeing with Harry.

After Poppy returned with his potions, the group quickly settled into comfortable conversation. Hermione informing him of his various visitors including the Twins, Neville, Luna, and Fleur. With both Sirius regaling tales of how him and James, through their various antics, wound up in the hospital wing. Amy, as she enjoyed being called, pointing out how much of the trouble they deserved for their hassle. Harry quickly learned that his mother could maintain a massive vindictive streak, if Amy's stories of how Lily and her with their friends chose to gain retribution for the marauder's antics. Dobby popped in halfway to deliver a light meal and a round of hot chocolate to lift their spirits. The cheerfulness of the atmosphere sucked away at the appearance of Dumbledore, Snape, and Mr & Mrs Weasley.

"Good Evening Harry…"

"Mr. Potter, Professor/Dumbledore" Harry/Sirius stated firmly

"Yes…well.. Mr. Potter are we feeling well?"

"I am as well as I can be for being placed into the hospital wing by their prick of a son." Harry noting Mrs. Weasley bristling at his statement.

"That is quite harsh of you Ha..Mr. Potter. Surly you wish to hear his side. Do you so readily desire to throw away your friendship with young Ronald, Mr. Potter?"

"Professor…Weasley ruined any chance of us being amicable to each other the moment he attacked my person from behind after hiding in the shadows. A better question is what is being done about the Pr.. Weasley to teach him the error of his ways?"

"We have decided after the thrashing he took from Mr. Longbottom that no further action is needed…" the Headmaster never able to finish his thought.

"That is not good enough, Professor… Not even close. You sit there, looking for a way to be lenient to that waste of food and air they call a son when if not for Heir Longbottom's quick action who knows the total of the damage he could have ensued upon my person. No, his physical damage in not enough. Not even by half…" Harry growled out

Raising an eyebrow at the young mage Albus asked, "And what would you have us do, Mr. Potter?"

"It is quite obvious, Professor, that your decision has been made… I require nothing from you. I will discuss the arrangements with Mr. and Mrs. Weasley and how House Weasley will repay the slight raised against my house."

"You cannot dismiss us, boy. We are the professors here. You have no say on that matter. It's just as I have told you repeatedly Albus. His arrogance knows no bounds…" Snape sneered out, but Harry had no patience left for the git.

"Again, I must ask you Headmaster to reign in your dog before someone neuters him or worse. To his point, I have absolute say in this matter as I am now claiming this as an Issue of House Potter against House Weasley, so mote it be." With a flare a binding magical glow surrounded the affected families. "You will now leave Professors. This no longer concerns you."

Begrudgingly the professors took their leave. Harry's decision also forced Hermione to vacate the area for the time being as well. Calming and recentering his emotions Harry then turned to Mr. & Mrs. Weasley. "Hello Mr. Weasley Mrs. Weasley. I wish we were seeing each other under happier circumstances. I believe it would be best for us all to sit down. This might not be the most pleasant of conversations…" At his words they agreed but neither group wished to begin the conversation.

Mr. Weasley deciding to break the silence asked, "L..Lord Potter, before we start for the actions one of House Weasley's Sons took against your person I offer my deepest apologies."

With Dumbledore removed from the situation, Harry's posture and presence moved into easy relaxation at Mr. Weasley's words simply replying, "Thank you for your words Mr. Weasley. I wish to apologize for worrying you with my tone and venom from earlier… Albus has much to answer for in his actions towards me and his hubris, and has provided nothing in return to answer for his actions…"

Unable to stand hearing Dumbledore besmirched in front of her any more than that Mrs. Weasley growled out, "You have right to…" She never got to finish as Harry windlessly silenced her. His magic seeping out as the temperature of the room descended sharply around them. His eyes glowing as the magic churned slowly below their surface.

"Mrs. Weasley this conversation will go one of two ways… It can be a conversation between families who consider each other friends to fix a slight against the other or It can be a conversation between an Ancient House that slighted a Most Ancient and Noble House… I can promise you the latter of the two versions will be far less pleasant and agreeable than the former…" Harry paused here to gather his magic back under heel before starting again, "To your impending remark I. Have. Every! Every Right. to hold that man in contempt for what he subjected me to my last 13 years of life. He unilaterally acted to directly defy the wishes of my parents, allowed my sworn godfather and blood adopted father to rot in Azkaban for 12 years even though he knew the man to be innocent, and that is not even the half of it… How would you feel, as a parent, if I defied every one of your wishes, placing your children into an environment you specified against, emulating Dumbledore's vaunted 'The Greater Good'… If you can look me in the eye, witness what I lived and still respect that man I will relinquish my current concerns with him." Harry was pleased to see the adults had the sense to look grim and grey.

"Very well Lord Potter," Mr. Weasley stated after a pregnant pause. "What is it that you demand of House Weasley for Ronald's slight on yourself?"

"Please Mr. Weasley, its Harry. After all it is my wish for our families to be considered friends at the conclusion of this discussion."

"Then it is Arthur, Harry." The elder stated to Harry with a smile

"Thank you, Arthur. I simply desire a public apology, in the Great Hall followed by a vow from Ronald that he and all of his descendants will never raise hand nor magic against House Potter."

Mrs. Weasley greying at his words alone was not missed by the group. She again was unable to hold her tongue, "You ask to much Young Man!"

Grinning at her he couldn't help but show just how little he was being vindictive, "Well, Mrs. Weasley, I guess you could say that. IF.. that is the case and you wish for me to ask for what I truly can I will demand Ronald questioned under veritaserum as to if his intentions were to see me killed by his hand and if he plans to continue with his actions. Where he to have truly been intending to end the line of House Potter I would declare a Blood Feud against House Weasley. I would bring fire and brimstone down upon your house magically, politically, and economically. I would challenge him to an honor duel and leave him embarrassed before ending his life. Let us not forget the life debts your family currently owes me…"

Looking ill at Harry's words Mr. Weasley asked, "Would you truly wish that upon us, Harry?"

Shifting his gaze back to the man he shook his head, "No Arthur… Why would I have offered to simply ask for a public apology and vow. I truly do not wish your family ill will… yet."

"Albus was…" Mrs. Weasley started to screech out before Mr. Weasley silenced her.

"My apologies Harry. Molly spoke out of turn." Arthur stated while glaring at her.

Kindly waving it off, Harry replied, "It is forgiven Arthur… I can appreciate the importance and draw of a lady with a strong, determined disposition. I would not have asked Hermione, if she would allow me the honor to court her as her boyfriend, if I did not see the brilliance in a woman with a similar character." He finished smiling kindly at the young woman in his arms. "All I ask is that your wife see that I am a man with my own opinion that will probably disagree with her many more times throughout our lives and that she respects mine as I will hers."

"That is agreeable, Harry, and I believe we have come to an understanding and as Head of House Weasley I graciously accept your terms to alleviate our family dispute." Arthur stated as he held out his hand for Harry to shake. Harry easily accepting it.

"I look forward to many more years of kinship between our houses, Arthur. Thank you for not forcing me to make this worse than I truly wished to." Harry stated with a smile

"Thank you, Harry. We will hope to see you around the burrow this summer. Have a great rest of your afternoon." Mr. Weasley offered as he and Mrs. Weasley stood to depart

"It is possible." Harry gave in return. The Weasleys nodding before turning to leave.

As they exited Hermione was the first to speak, "Well that was more eventful than I wished."

"Agreed. That wiped me out." Harry stated to the group with a yawn

Seeing him on the verge of falling asleep Sirius and Amy stood to leave. Amy stating as she embraced Harry, "I am grateful that you will make a complete recovery Harry. I always seem to have the most enlightening of conversations in your company."

"It's always a pleasure Auntie." Harry replied

"You have surprised me with your handling of the Headmaster…" she sated with a quirked eyebrow. Her question not asked

"Understand this Auntie, Albus will answer for his slight against my houses, but he is far more important to me to us, currently, as an educator and as a free, extremely powerful mage than a prisoner. He is lucky that Sirius is willing to even stomach him in the same room…" Harry replied with a menacing grin to her questioning look.

"That is a cunning decision, Harry." Sirius cut in. "Wise beyond your years, young man."

"I don't know about wise, Sirius. I'm just smart enough to finally start listening to the brightest witch of our age." Harry replied cheekily earning a radiant blush from Hermione.

"Oh, hush Harry." Hermione snarked out as Sirius also said, "Heavens above. I've failed you James… He's been corrupted like Lily did to you! Oh the shame…" Finishing his statement, he took to acting a faint.

"Quiet you!" Amy snaped out "He is just proving to be far more intelligent at that age than you rapscallions."

His reply gaining snickers from both teens as he abashedly said, "Yes, Dear… I believe though we will be taking our leave you two. Again, you did very well today Harry. I am proud of how you conducted yourself with Arthur." Both adults sharing a hug with each teen before heading out.

Hermione seeing him struggling to stay away simply said, "Relax Harry. I'll be here when you wake.." Placing a gentle kiss over his scar as he relaxed into his slumber.

Madam Pomfrey, much to his aggravation, forced Harry to remain under her care until the morning of the 30th. With him only being released after she demanded his promise, under Hermione's watchful eye, that he not perform any further magic for the next 24 hours.

"Worry not, Poppy… If the Prat doesn't follow through with your recommendations his healing is the least of what he will need to worry about." She asserted to the Healer, casually twirling her wand. The result of which was a gulp heard from Harry's direction and him instantly handing over his wand to Hermione as fast as he could. Even with all his training he did not wish to see the end of that want trained on him after invoking her ire. 'I still haven't sat right since her last hexing…'

Offering her his arm the pair noting their departure matched up with lunch time headed to the great hall for their meal. Only to be confronted, halfway there, by the Weasley twins.

"Hermione dearest/Harry Dear Sir!" greeted Fred/George

"Gred/Forge. How are our friendly neighborhood jesters?" Hermione and Harry greeted back with Harry continuing, "Follow along dear gents. Walk with us."

Wary of the couple's tone, the twins continued on walking with the couple at a slight distance. Another tell the twins noticed was an identical grin they had adopted as soon as Fred started on them.

"Now tell us good sirs…" Harry began

"How may us lowly fourthies help you brilliant sirs?" Hermione finished

"Oi… That is our gag." Fred stated

"Besmirching our good nature and the noble art of prankery with your blatant thieving." George added

"For Shame!/For Shame!…" the twins finished together

"Our apologies, kind sirs." Harry began stating again with copying the twins

"We simply are looking to flatter you" Hermione continued

"Stroke your egos" quipped Harry

"Inflate your heads…" jested Hermione with Harrys next line cut off

Having sufficiently become fed up with their mimicry, George and Fred stated, "Enough/Please stop."

"What is it we can do for you, Golden Couple o' Hogwarts?" Fred asked. Both him and his twin not realizing they had now been caught off balance by the couple's scheming.

"Why Frediekins. What makes you say that we need anything from the resident prank masters of Hogwarts?" Hermione quipped

"Oh, that's right my dear Lady. We had a pranking proposition for them." Harry returned

"Quite right Milord. What was that again? Quite brilliant of us. Do tell…"

"You see chaps. Me and the missus, as you have refused to call us anything else, have a deal we would like to offer you to help you along in your noble endeavor?" the twins eyebrows rising at where this conversation was headed, but Harry continued on "This said it is not without sacrifices on your part. Interested?"

"YES!" the twins bellowed as the group turned the corner into the Great Hall heading for Gryffindor Table.

"Well, chaps, we would like to invest in your company. In your dream." Hermione stated to them. Laughing as they watched the twins faint at their words and upon hearing McGonagall groan. "Enervate!" Hermione cast. Awaking both twins.

"Are you interested?" Harry asked forcing himself to hide a Cheshire grin from his face

"Are we interested Gred, he asks?"

"Why of course Forge. Why wouldn't we be?"

"All that matters now is the deal?"

"Its reasonably simple dear sirs. If I win the tournament, we shall gift you the 1000 galleons as startup funds for you to begin creating and testing products. Upon your graduation, if you pass muster, you will receive a further 5000 galleons to establish your shop." Harry stated now realizing the hall was completely quite listening to them.

"You will not be able to test any products on anyone below a 3rd year…" Hermione added as she withdrew a contract Ragnok had drawn up for them in the event they wish to use it. "This is the contract you would sign for the deal to become binding…" she had more to say but never received the chance as the twins snatched the contract and quill from her, swiftly signing their names. As they both finished signing, they realized two things. One neither of them read a word to the contract, and two it was signed in with a blood quill. The quill and contract both quickly flashing at their finished signatures. The quill disappearing and a copy of the contract being created for them. Which Hermione passed to them with a large grin

"Thank you, gents… it has been an absolute pleasure doing business with you." She said before adding, "You might enjoy reading Section 3, paragraph 4. We both thought it was quite genius."

Fred quickly reached the page as he began mumbling out loud what the paragraph entailed, "Signees here after to execute said contractual agreements must meet said educational standards before or upon the completion of their 7th year of education:

Passing of all current scheduled NEWTs at or above an Exceeds Expectations

Passing of either a retake or newly scheduled OWLs in listed classes at or above an Exceeds Expectations taken as self-study:

Said Listed Courses:

Transfiguration

Ancient Runes

Arithmancy

History of Magic

(All extra educational costs will be handled by Executor of the contract)

The twins looked at the coupe in front of them in insurmountable horror. "What have you done?' They posed to the couple.

"Sweet innocent us?" Harry posed back "Oh nothing we simply created a contract for you to gain everything you've ever wanted. It's not our fault you fell for our pranks…yet again."

"Think about how happy your mother will be…" Hermione added. Her and Harry enjoying seeing the disgust at her comment upon their faces. Enjoying it so much that neither noticed McGonagall and Flitwick come up to see about the commotion.

"Alright you two what have you done now?" McGonagall asked pointedly at Harry.

"Oh, Nothing Pro…" Harry started before Fred cut him off

"Don't you dare Harrykins. You most certainly did something. You and the Missus enraptured us, naive souls, with your honeyed words." Fred barked out

"Yes, those sweet, succulent honeyed words. So sweet of you to trapped us within a contract we must execute." George added

Her lip thinning McGonagall asked, "And what pray tell are the terms of the contract?"

"To earn the 6000 galleons offered, Harry must win the tournament, gifting us the first 1000 Galleons, and then to further earn the other 5000 Galleons by the end of our 7th year we must receive 3 EEs at minimum in our NEWTs and. AND they scammed, hoodwinked us into retaking 2 courses and taking 2 others for 4 extra OWLs. Those of which have to be passes at or above EEs as well…" McGonagall now fighting a losing battle with her twitching lip asked one further question

"That doesn't sound like too harsh of a deal. Which classes?" to which George grumbled out a reply,

"Transfiguration, History of Magic, Runes, and Arithmancy." He paused to look at Hermione before glaring at Harry, "She has corrupted you mate. These pranks of yours are vicious." To which Harry only bellowed out a laugh before throwing in his part of the prank.

"True Forge. True, but you and your more attractive counterpart have missed the real juicy bit in all of this…"

The bait to enticing to leave alone George asked, "Oi how dare you spread such falsities, and pray tell what's the juicy bit of your master prank?" In response, Hermione passed them the fake survey her and Harry had created to tease George, her replying after his discussed look grew at his glace over the results,

"Well, my dear Georgie it is quite simple… To pass those four additional courses with EEs will require a minimum of 1200 hours per class. Probably closer to 16-1800 hours." falling apart into a state of giggles at his and Freds look

"Do you two know what you have done?" Fred whispered.

"Why of course we do Frediekins…" Harry answered.

Flitwick finally tired of the verbal jousting barked out, "What did you do Mr. Potter, Miss Granger?"

"Oh, nothing big Professor… If they truly desire their wish, we have simply pranked them out of their time… I doubt they will even be able to muster energy to prank the school for the foreseeable coming year… They will be too busy to even think outside of studies, let alone prank the school. Poor Angie and Alicia… what ever will they do with their time."

"Y..you pranked them out of their free time?" Flitwick stated more than questioned them as he looked at McGonagall in awe before the two professors fell into a fit of laughter.

"Oh, Circe and Merlin that is genius…" McGonagall stated as she started crying from laughter and relief. "100 Points for Gryffindor for each of you for saving the school's sanity as you have. That is commendable." At her words Harry whooped and howled as he jumped out of his seat yelling at the top of his voice after creating a messenger Patronus,

"Prongs and Padfoot. I WIN! Hermione and I have done what you never could. WE got McGonagall to laugh at our prank and give us house points. Woo!" After he finished, he sent the Patronus off to find Sirius.

His message to the Patronus confusing many within the hall saw the coupe being congratulated for a masterful prank on the twins. As lunch finished Harry simply stated to the twins as the couple went to leave the sulking pair,

"I am gambling on you guys and I will be damned if I am not going to get your best out of this gamble. I am prepared to sell or lose all value from my Gambol & Japes shares to see if you two truly can put them all out of business. I'll simply leave you with this, there is no quidditch this year…" At that Harry led Hermione out of the Great Hall.

The next evening saw Harry enjoying his midafternoon with is Aunt Minnie over tea and laughing constantly at the prank from yesterday. At the conclusion of their tea Minnie stated,

"Harry, I truly did enjoy many of your father's and the Marauder's antics when they were not to cause any harm to others but that was simply brilliant. You haven't a clue how much more relaxed the professors will probably be not having to constantly watch those twins for the coming year."

Smiling at her he replied, "That was a nice side-effect Auntie but you and I both know when they set their minds to something the Twins can be quite remarkable. I would go to bet with the right incentives they probably would have been some of the best students to pass through these halls all while being the most prolific pranksters to ever call this intuition home for 10 months…" His smile growing wider at the shutter that ran through his head of house.

"Thank you again for the wonderful gift Harry." She stated hoping to change the track of the afternoon's conversation.

"You're welcome Aunt Minnie…Hermione was a great deal of help for me with it. She helped me collect and organize all of my dads notes from the mastery he was taking with you while he trained as an Auror. We felt you deserved to have a keep sake from one of your most passionate students…"

Shaking her head Minnie stated, "I don't know how it is that you Potter men always fumble your ways into the most brilliant women of your generations…"

"It's a gift." Harry stated haughtily before becoming thoughtful, "That's why you knew to bet on us isn't it?" At her nod he couldn't help but chuckle before he said, "I am grateful for everyday she feels I deserve her. I still have much to do to ever be worthy of her, Aunt Minnie. I will be working a long time to prove I am enough for her."

Her lip thinning at his words, disappointed in herself for her part in his persistent but dwindling lack of confidence she asked, "Harry… Please do not make the mistake that many young men make. Do not place her upon a pedestal or within a glass house that you constantly try to protect or view as perfect. The two of you are both flawed individuals… I am eternally sorry for my part that caused you feel this relentless need to protect those that are close to you. My advice to you is simply this. Both of you will grow into exceptional individuals and hopefully and even more extraordinary couple, but only if you allow for the other to continue to grow as a person. Search and recognize for yourself where you feel your greatness may lie and pursue it. It could be in multiple or one area, but worth it. Allow and nurture her to do the same. I feel there is nothing greater for the two of you than for you to each nurture the other in your pursuits."

Harry contemplated this for a long moment. Staring deeply into his half full teacup before he lifted his eyes to his Professor and nodded, "Thank you Aunt Minnie. I needed that, and I know I need to continue to improve in my confidence. Hermione holds a lot of the thanks for its growth and improvement. She sincerely makes me a better man… Thank you for your words of wisdom. I feel it would be very easy for me to fall into that mind set you mentioned…"

Checking her offices clock, before her response, she realized that she was going to be late to the faculties staff meeting. Stating to Harry as she stood, "Drat… Harry, we appear to have run over on our time this afternoon. I need to shuttle you out so I can head to this meeting."

Both sharing a hug as Harry whispered his thanks. Locking up her office, as they departed, both heading in opposite directions. Harry mentally making the decision to talk with Dobby about something special for Hermione tomorrow…

The following evening, much past curfew for the students, Hermione was being led out the hidden passage behind the One-Eyed Witch which exited in the basement of Honeydukes by one Harry Potter. She had met him as instructed at curfew in their common room before he enveloped both of them in his Invisibility cloak. Other than her dress for the evening she had not a clue what her boyfriend planned for their first New Year's together. The note Dobby had passed to her earlier that evening had Harry only instructing her to dress formal but warm attire for the evening. As such this had led to their current situation with Hermione giving a token effort to not see them get into trouble.

"Harry, what if we get caught out of our dorms? We will get in trouble!" She asked/stated with no bite to her words as she easily allowed herself to continue being towed out of the Honeydukes cellar and out onto the streets of Hogsmeade.

Smiling at her Harry returned, "Please never change Hermione. And don't worry Dobby has sealed our beds with the same wards as we do when we leave for Avalon. You have nothing to worry about…"

"And I am sure this is where you tell me that you have thought of everything?" Hermione quipped back playfully

"Why of course I have my Dear Lady!" Harry replied with a flourish as he pulled out a Portkey, "Please grab on Beautiful."

Grasping the foot of rope, she eyed him questioningly, "It's a portkey, dear. Ragnok was very happy to provide us with one for the idea I brought to him yesterday evening." Harry stated as he grasped her other hand and stated the activation phrase,

"Celebration!"

The two felt the, now, familiar pull of their navel at the portkey's activation. Not even a moment later the two were deposited at the highest point within the city of Harry's choosing which was currently a riot with celebration for the new year. Harry the first to stand offered his hand to Hermione who was in awe of what Harry had pulled off for their evening. 'How did he get us a portkey into the city of Paris for New Year's… Are we on top of the Eiffel Tower?!' Her hands rising to cover her mouth as she gapped, gazing out to the radiant, electrifying view of the Parisians celebrating below.

"Ha…Harry? Hhhow?" She asked him as she turned towards him. Harry approaching her with a glass of wine each for the two of them.

"Well like I said I asked Ragnok about celebrating the new year and this is what he came up with. Cheeky bloke. Going to owe him big for this." He replied, with a wave of his free hand, as he led her to the table for two. "If I am correct, he has reserved a wonderful meal for us this evening as well…"

"This is amazing Harry!" She exclaimed from her seat as she could not sit still as she worked to take it all in. Harry chuckling at her enthusiasm just allowed her the childish moment. Simply smiling at her from behind his wine glass 'Anything to have you act like this, my Hermione…'

"It is isn't it?" He replied rhetorically. His eyes never leaving her as their first course arrived, Fresh shucked Oysters.

"This looks delicious Harry." Hermione stated as she easily tucked in enjoying the delicious bivalves. Harry again not able to keep from lightly laughing at his girlfriend's enthusiasm. Him tucking in as well for the first course.

As the meal progressed both enjoyed their light, inconsequential topics of conversation as the gazed out at the growing celebration filling the surrounding areas below. Never realizing that throughout the entire meal they either held their free hand or laced their legs together. Eventually giving up on being seated across from the other Harry moved his seat next to hers so she could lean into him as they consumed their beef tartare and steak fries. During the slight lull in their meal, between courses, Harry posed to her,

"Hermione if you could do anything after Hogwarts what would you like to do?" At his question she furrowed her brow as she contemplated his question. Taking a sip from the Syrah they each were sharing.

"That's a difficult question Harry… I know I would like to finish my secondary education at some point. Maybe attend University. After that I am not sure. What about you Harry?"

Their final plate of the evening arrived, one dark chocolate Papillotte and a fruit tart for them to share. After dividing their portions up Harry answered, "I'm of the same mind for achieving more with our muggle education, but after that, if I am unable to do so at the same time, I..I think I want to travel the world… You know a little bit that I haven't had much opportunity to travel for holiday. I'd like to visit and learn more from various magical cultures, expand that Grimoire of mine we created. I guess just experience what is out there." Hermione couldn't help but smile at him.

"Well, My Dear, do you think you think would have room in that dream for a companion?" She asked, her eyes shining. To her question Harry tilted his head while looking at her

"Y..yyou would want to come along?" He asked slightly surprised

"Harry…" She said with a huff, "I must be getting use to you being brighter than this because that was truly a thickheaded question. Why, in any of your description, would I not be ecstatic to travel with you?" She asked with a playful glare

Caught slightly flatfooted at her he stuttered out, "W..Well didn't kknow and ddidnt want to assume."

"Harry, I do not know about you but this relationship of ours has been a dream of mine since the day you saved me from the troll. Probably even since we both were sorted to Gryffindor. I would not let something as mundane as traveling keep us from continuing to explore what we have between each other… Or at least I assume that you will still desire to be with me in 3 years' time…" Hermione stated to him as he gapped at her before nodding along with her.

"I know its early in whatever it is we have, but I've never been more comfortable with anyone as I've been with you. It's seemed to only grow as we've continued. I would be honored for you to travel with me." He stated with a thoughtful look before gaining a cheeky grin, stating at a whisper in her ear, "I guess I will have to purchase another library trunk or two, hmm?"

Pleased with himself at the flush her cheeks and neck adopted. She quickly replied while gazing into his eyes, whispering as well, "Ohh hush you Prat…" As she pulled his face down to hers, initiating their first kiss.

All thought left Harry's mind as he simply reacted to her lips on his. Melding into the kiss. Allowing himself to react to her ministrations and direction. Hermione not fairing any better. Both not witnessing the light show from their magic's reaction to the kiss. To those who would have been close enough to witness the even they would have described it as if both of their magics were singing to the other attempting to meld together but obviously missing something. One critical piece absent.

It was lucky for the couple that Hermione's internal clock was precise because Paris erupted with a dynamic display of muggle and magical fireworks in celebration of the new year and the completion of the Yule Holiday matching up with their kiss.

Pulling away slowly Hermione opened her eyes to see Harry's features frozen in a goofy expression. Before she could say anything, his eyes opened, mesmerizing her at the intensity of magic swirling within those deep emerald pools.

"Wow!" They both replied to each other. Both gaining a cat in the cream grin towards each other. Harry's soon growing as he leaned into Hermione to peck her gently and said, "Your Prat…" earning him a gentle swat on his arm and a crushing hug. Harry checking his watch noted the time during the hug. As they released each other and the celebration calmed he said,

"I am sorry about this Hermione, but we need to be heading back." To which she nodded her agreement. After checking to make sure the bill was covered, Harry removed the second portkey from his robes, presenting it to his girlfriend. She easily took it before stepping into his arms and burrowing into him. Returning his earlier peck on the lips with a light kiss of her own. Their lips breaking apart Harry stated the phrase his sight never leaving her eyes of amber, flecked with gold,

"Mischief Managed."

Surprisingly they ran into neither Prefects nor Professors. They did need to buy off Peeves' silence with the promise of pranking products after the next Hogsmeade date. Finally, after a quick verbal lashing for waking her, the Fat Lady allowed them into their common room. As they walked towards the staircase leading up to the girl's dorms, both instinctively grasping firmer at each other. Neither wishing for this special evening to end. Each relishing the new shift in their relationship. Finally, after 15 minutes of standing arm in arm at the base of the stairs Hermione said,

"I'll be here when you wake up Harry…" Her statement finished he pulled her into a passionate kiss before stating softly in French,

"Sweet Dreams, my Hermione…" Squeezing her one last time for the evening.

"Good Night, my Harry." She easily replied back before making her way up the stairs

As Hermione made her way up the stairs to her dorm, Harry mentally whispered, to the vestige of her retreating form, repeating the epiphany that graced his mind at their first kiss, 'Hermione… please be kind to my weary heart.'
