Chapter 13: Mewtwo and the Search for Crystal Clear Answers

(A/N: I saw a review mention that they'd like to see potentially some gym leaders also romance with Red, I won't confirm or deny if I have plans for things like that but I'm not looking to hard limit to just the dexholders. Also to my constant reviewer Darkspinesonic37, no worries about writing the same thing every chapter, I just appreciate the knowledge that my readers and reviewers are following the series when I post new chapters. Enjoy the chap!)

General

Red turned his head to the direction of the familiar voice, and saw a girl with blue upturned twin tails, a white hat, red top, slightly goofy blue overalls, and white thigh highs to complement her shapely legs.

"Crys! What are you doing here?" Red was both surprised and relieved to see a familiar face in all the chaos.

If Red was a little less rattled by the appearance of an angry Mewtwo, he probably would have pieced together that Crys was here for the exact same reason as the other dexholders on his team, to help defeat the evil orgs causing havoc.

Lucky for Red's pride, Crys humored his question with a playful "I'm here to rescue you buddy!" Crys gave a flirty wink at him and then realized that there were a bunch of familiar and unfamiliar female faces behind him.

"Wow, last time I saw him I'm pretty sure only Yellow and maybe Blue were fawning over him, what… happened?" Crys thought to herself slightly confusedly.

Blue and Yellow in the meantime, were even more in turmoil now that they had to contend with Mewtwo's and Crys' appearance.

The former caused confusion and panic, while the latter caused headaches and panic.

Blue looked at Yellow and both of them shared a silent agreement to check with Crys if everything was still going well with Gold after they got through this battle.

Of course, during these shenanigans, Mewtwo wasn't just idly sitting by. After he finished capturing the majority of the trainers backstage, he turned his attention to White and Amanda who were still bewildered on stage with the still-frozen Leaf Tornado/Storm suspended in mid-air.

Telepathically, the team heard Mewtwo's angry thoughts "You will all surrender to our new world order, any pokemon that can help with the liberation of pokemon will be freed by me personally."

White and Mei flinched at hearing this, both were thinking that what he was saying sure sounded like a familiar Unovan team. Mei had some deep ties to the ideology that Mewtwo was spouting, so she was especially affected when she saw he was using it for evil.

Suddenly Mewtwo's attention was drawn away from White when Red yelled "Mewtwo, what are you doing? Why are you working for Team Neo, and more importantly, where's Blaine?"

Mewtwo seemed to glare at Red and snarled out "So it's you Red, my masters let me know that you are one of the worst offenders in brainwashing others to enslave pokemon."

It didn't look like Mewtwo was bluffing either, there was genuine anger exuding from Mewtwo.

Red didn't seem to be intimidated though, he repeated "Nevermind forgetting me, where's Blaine?"

Mewtwo looked at Red disdainfully and all he uttered was "Who's Blaine?" before ignoring Red again to focus on Amanda and White.

He started by directing all the leaves in the air towards the hapless Amanda.

White saw this happening and rushed towards Amanda to help block the attack with her body.

Red was appalled to see Mewtwo attacking so mercilessly and quickly asked Pika to send a powerful thunderbolt to intercept the attack.

The extreme power of Pika's thunderbolt disrupted the psychic connection between Mewtwo and the leaves and White was temporarily saved from danger.

"White, can you help me fend off Mewtwo?" Red asked in a slightly worried voice. He was trying his best to sound calm so that his new partner wouldn't panic from the prospect of dueling a legendary pokemon.

"Sorry Red, I'm not much of a battler, I actually was hoping to be more helpful on the managing and organizing side. Not that that's particularly helpful right now…" White apologetically looked at Red.

White wasn't incompetent as a trainer anymore, her adventures in Unova, especially the trials on the battle subway had made her into a decent trainer in her own right.

However, there was a large gap between decent trainer, and someone who could fight toe to toe with one of the most feared legendary pokemon in existence.

White's managerial skills made her acutely aware that she needed to delegate the responsibility of this battle to individuals who wouldn't slow down the team.

She quickly took charge of the situation and yelled out "Okay who in the team can handle battling Mewtwo? Come help Red if you can, otherwise let's work on rescuing as many trainers and pokemon as possible!"

Platina was a little put off that she was getting orders from someone other than herself or Red, but quickly adapted and brought her Empoleon out for battle.

Meanwhile Yellow was torn between whether to help the trainers and pokemon who were in danger, or to try to help bring Mewtwo back to his senses as she had a personal connection with Mewtwo and Blaine.

Ultimately, she decided she couldn't be as helpful in a straightup battle as it looked like Mewtwo was not in his right mind at the moment, so she went off to escort some scared looking audience members.

Blue and Sapphire didn't even have to think a second moment before they brought out their powerful looking starters in Blasty and Chic.

Mei hated seeing pokemon being hurt so she also designated herself to help the rescue efforts.

In her case though, she had to assist in some clashes between trainers and the Team Neo grunts who had finally came out in full force to support Mewtwo's rampage.

Crys walked over to Red's side and kicked out Mega's (her Meganium) pokeball. "Even if we manage to hold back Mewtwo, someone is going to need to capture him and so we can get him back to his senses, so you're going to need me for this one Red".

Red thought this was a pretty sensible proposal from Crys and turned to face Mewtwo who was getting impatient with all the disruptions to his actions that was currently being instigated by the other dexholders not in the main battling squad.

He tried to rush Crys with a zen headbutt, as she was the one who had disrespected him initially by kicking a pokeball at him as he had started his "liberation campaign".

"Try to capture me? The hubris of humans knows no limits when it comes to trying to enslave me and my fellow pokemon." Mewtwo angrily thought to himself as he was further enraged from the memory of someone thinking they could enslave him.

He found himself being abruptly stopped by a big soft object midway through his zen headbutt.

He looked up and saw the imposing scowl of Lax as Red had sent his trusty partner out to intercept for Crys.

"Lax, use knock off!" Lax sent out a powerful knock off which sent Mewtwo back, but oddly did not result in a knocked off item.

"That's odd… so that means Mewtwo isn't being controlled by some kind of mind controlling item…" Red mused aloud as he tried to figure out what was wrong with his legendary friend.

Mewtwo recoiled back from the force of the knockoff and directed a powerful psystrike at all of Red's battle team in retaliation.

Everyone was able to either dodge or counterattack the move with their own powerful moves, but there was no telling how much stamina Mewtwo had left in the tank for moves like this.

Red was still trying to sus out what was causing Mewtwo to behave so oddly when an idea struck him.

It would seem that Platina had the same idea at that moment as they both turned and made eye contact with each other simultaneously.

"He must have someone controlling him!" they declared in unison.

"That means we just have to find the mastermind and defeat him to return Mewtwo to normal."

To be sure, it wasn't like the five expert trainers present couldn't defeat Mewtwo, legendary or not, they had their fair share of encounters with legendary and mythical pokemon of similar caliber before.

Instead of mindlessly knocking out Mewtwo and capturing him (which may or may not bring him back to normal). Platina had decided that it would be more efficient to solving the question of why Mewtwo was brainwashed if they found the source of his brainwashing then caught him afterward to bring him to safety.

Otherwise, there was no telling how many powerful pokemon Team Neo had under their control.

Platina took the time between Mewtwo's psystrikes and their counterattacks to tell the rest of the team the plan.

Red and co. agreed immediately and Red ordered Lax to charge Mewtwo with a Giga Impact in order to suppress his options.

In the meantime, Red and Platina looked around the area around the contest stage to see if they could find anyone especially suspicious.

This proved to be harder than usual as the varied uniforms of the Team Neo members included modified Team Aqua, Magma, and Plasma uniforms.

There was no shortage of sketchy looking enemies in the area, but there was so much chaos between the clashing trainers and grunts that it was hard to pinpoint anyone who was especially sketchy.

White, who was observing the situation from her original position along with Amanda tried to rack her brain on what about Mewtwo's actions could hint towards the location of a potential mastermind.

As she was thinking hard about the possibilities, Crys' loud (some would say bossy) voice cut through her concentration "WHITE DODGE!" was all she heard before she noticed a stray rock throw that had come her way.

Amanda used her Serperior tale and deflected the rock onto the wooden floors of the stage.

White let out a sigh of relief as she had dodged a metaphorical bullet there thanks to Crys' awareness. But before she could relax, Mewtwo suddenly teleported behind her and as if it was something personal, he then knocked her and Amanda towards Red and co.

Red rushed over and sent Toge to help catch White in his wings, after breaking White's momentum, Toge dutifully set White down in Red's arms.

[+1 to the harem for you master] Toge happily chirped as he set White in Red's arms.

Of course, Red only thought that his Togekiss was being a dutiful pokemon and at this point, princess carrying (although he didn't know that this is what he was doing) was something he was used to.

He had a concerned look on his face as he looked deeply into White's eyes and asked "Are you alright White?!"

White, who was only used to a clueless baka who couldn't think of anything past winning the pokemon league, was completely caught off-guard by the mature and caring look Red was giving at closer quarters. Along with Red's well-built arms and defined chest that she was currently cradled in, she found herself blushing wildly and could only look away in embarrassment as her heart was skipping many beats.

Red on the other hand… was trying his best to be a perfect gentleman, but it was hard to not show a reaction on his face when he was holding White's supple bare thighs as she had on nothing but short shorts on her lower half.

Thankfully, he was spared from any other potential slip ups as the seriousness of the situation combined with Amanda landing behind them shook him back into reality.

He gently set White down and gave a quick look at Amanda to make sure she was alright as well. When he confirmed that both were fine he returned his gaze back to the battlefield.

Mewtwo was floating over the area White was standing beforehand and looking extra pissed off.

White glanced over to Mewtwo and it was at that moment that everything clicked for her.

She quickly grabbed her new team's attention and said "Guys, I think I figured out where the mastermind is!"

(A/N: Crys joins the cast! I wanted to give her a bit more of a spotlight for this one but unfortunately y'all are gonna have to look forward to her moments in the future. I'm currently still on the Gold/Silver arc of the manga so I'd like to give her more characterization when I refresh myself on her in the Crystal portion. Thanks to my constant reviewers including Goku35, Darkspinesonic37, and Natsu27 for consistently reviewing each of my chapters. Your support and feedback along with my other readers help motivate me to write more.
