I have an assignment to do, and I'm too lazy for that, so I wrote this instead.

Rest time

The sun is already rising when they finally return to the inn. For almost a week, they spent whole nights chasing and killing demons, and now they are exhausted, wishing for a moment of respite. Yes, they are Pillars, but even they are humans. They also need to rest.

He's so tired he doesn't care to answer the innkeeper's greeting or to listen to what she's saying. His only objective is the futon already prepared in his room and to bury himself under the covers for at least a couple of hours. Just a couple of hours. That is enough.

He opens the door of his room, and sure enough, the futon with its clean covers is already set for him on the floor. Although the only thing he wants is to throw himself on it, he still dutifully set his sword at arm's reach. He doesn't bother to even take off his haori, though he does unbutton the first few buttons of his jacket and shirt. Unable to keep his eyes open anymore, he finally lets himself drop on the futon.

He hears faint footsteps coming to his way, the sound of the door softly opening and closing before feeling a sudden warmth by his side. A warmth wearing a butterfly pin and light-coloured haori.

"What… Kochō? What are you? ..." he mutters half-asleep, unable to hide the annoyance in his voice.

"What? The mission is done, so I'm going to rest. I told you I was coming to your room, Tomioka-san, but looks like you didn't listen to me, again. Oh, well. Have a good rest."

And she's already fast asleep, even before he can say anything. He can only stare at her for a few moments and then merely sighs. There is no point arguing with her. He prefers having her close to him anyway. His hand unconsciously holds her closer.

Forgetting of everything except of her, he closes his eyes and drifts in a dreamless slumber, until the crow comes again.
