EPILOGUE

Raymond stood back while Alex looked over the body of Excella Gionne. He watched with mild intique. Reports indicated that Excella had been injected with the Uroboros virus. Raymond had been reviewing documents recovered by Jessica's team. It detailed the success rate of cellular combination with the virus as being 2 in 10. Raymond frowned. It seemed like Excella and Albert's plan was to use the virus as a philosophers stone, in order to create a kind of new world utopia.

Raymond rolled his eyes.

He observed Alex again, who was too absorbed in her medical analysis of Excella to notice. He wondered if she held a hidden desire to cause a global apocalypse in the name of "Science" like her brother.

'Raymond, this is fascinating!" Said Alex suddenly, jolting him out of his thoughts.
'What is it?' Raymond asked, brushing his flame coloured hair out of his eyes. Alex removed her mask and gloves, sighing in satisfaction.

'It appears that the Uroboros virus was rejected by Excella's body, but instead of destroying her and creating an abomination like other subjects, it seems to have spared her.' Raymond's eyebrow raised in curiosity.

'Why would it do that?' Alex smiled.

'I have a theory; upon reading some of Albert's findings on the initial tests using Uroboros, I discovered that in extremely rare cases, the body will reject the virus, causing Uroboros to actually exit the body, both physically and on a cellular level too.' Raymond scoffed.

'Well if that's the case, how is Excella in one piece? Surely her body would have been destroyed expelling the virus? Even if it didn't, the report Jessica sent back said that a satellite cannon was used to destroy the monster that formed around Excella. How the hell could she withstand such a weapon?' Alex smirked again, and pointed at Excella's intact body.

'While I can't be one-hundred percent certain, it is possible that the virus used her as the "core" of it's body, akin to a beating heart. The virus then used the surrounding corpses to increase it's physical mass. Excella would have likely been in the centre of the mass, and probably protected by the virus. As such, the virus may have cacooned around her body allowing her to emerge unscathed.' Raymond shrugged.

Alex regarded Excella for a moment. Although still alive, Excella was technically brain dead. Alex had observed her but couldn't tell exactly why Excella was in such a state. Perhaps it was her body's way of protecting itself from the virus. Regadless, it was unlikely she would ever wake up.

'So what are you going to do with her?' Asked Raymond, folding his arms. Alex sighed in triumph.

'Further tests are needed, but Excella might hold a key ingredient I need to perfect my brother's work. It seems that even in death, she is still useful to Albert. If only he were here to share in this revelation.' Raymond sighed.

'Hmm, Well, as long as you're not planning to destroy the world I guess it doesn't matter what you do." Alex laughed musically.

'What I have in-store is much more subtle Raymond. In fact, I may have a new assignment for you and Jessica. Go now, I will inform you of your task later.' Alex observed Excella for a final time. Raymond shrugged and left Alex alone.

'You plans have failed, my dear Excella, but perhaps you can still be of use..." Alex stroked Excella's cheek, feeling the cooled skin.

"Through you, perhaps I can find the final component to achieve my dream... My dream to transcend..."
