Proving Themselves

Authors note: Starting here, Yellow will be using Pokemon that she doesn't actually have. I gave her these Pokemon.

Yellow and Chuchu followed Toriel down the stairs and into a long hallway.

Toriel spoke, "You wish to know how to return "home", do you not?"

Yellow nodded as Toriel continued.

"Ahead of us lies the end of the RUINS. A one-way exit to the rest of the underground."

"So I just need to go through there to get home, right?" Yellow asked.

"No," Toriel replied. "I am going to destroy it."

"Destroy it?!" Yellow exclaimed.

"Yes, no one will ever be able to leave again. Now, be a good child and go upstairs."

Toriel continued walking. Yellow and Chuchu followed.

"But why?" Yellow asked. "Why do you want to destroy the exit?"

Toriel sighed. "Every child that falls down here meets the same fate. I have seen it again and again. They come. They leave. They die."

"Die?!" Yellow thought to herself.

Toriel continued. "You naive child… If you leave the RUINS… They… Asgore… Will kill you. I am only protecting you, do you understand? Go to your room."

Toriel continued walking.

"I've been through danger many times before!" Yellow explained. "I think I can handle Asgore."

"Do not try to stop me," Toriel said. "This is your final warning."

Yellow continued to follow Toriel.

"I've survived massive floods, been to other worlds, I've even gone up against many legendary Pokemon! I'll be ok."

Toriel stopped at a door and spoke. "You want to leave so badly? Hmph. You are just like the others. There is only one solution to this. Prove yourself. Prove to me that you are strong enough to survive."

With that, Yellow entered a fight.

Toriel blocks the way!

Yellow tried to say something, but she couldn't think of anything to say. Suddenly, Toriel shot flames from her hands Although they didn't hit Yellow, she didn't want to take any chances. She grabbed a Pokeball from her pocket, enlarged it, and threw it.

"Rainy! I need your help!"

Out came a Simipour, who let out a battle cry.

"Rainy, if any flames look like they're going to hit me, use Water Gun on them" Yellow commanded.

Rainy nodded, and turned his attention to the fight.

Toriel prepares a magical attack.

Toriel shot flames, while Yellow dodged, and Rainy put out those that looked like they were going to hit Yellow. Chuchu, meanwhile, was watching from a corner.

Toriel looks through you.

Yellow tried sparing Toriel, who stayed silent. More flames. More dodging. More extinguishing.

Yellow tried sparing Toriel again.

"Attack or run away!" Toriel commanded.

More flames came. This time, Yellow got hit. She kept trying to spare Toriel.

"What are you proving this way?" Toriel asked.

More flames. Yellow got hit a couple more times. Rainy was getting tired. Yellow spared Toriel again.

"Fight me or leave!"

Yellow refused to fight back. The process repeated.

"Go away!"

Again.

"I know you want to go home, but…"

Again.

"But please, go upstairs now."

Again.

"I promise, I will take good care of you here."

Again.

"I know we do not have much, but…"

Again.

"We can have a good life here."

Again.

"Why are you making this so difficult?"

Almost there.

"Please, go upstairs."

Just a little more.

Toriel said nothing.

Spare.

Toriel quietly laughed.

This is it.

"Pathetic, is it not? I cannot save even a single child."

One more time.

"No, I understand. You would just be unhappy trapped down here. The RUINS are very small once you get used to them. It would not be right for you to grow up in a place like this. My expectations… My loneliness… My fear… For you, my child, I will put them aside."

The fight ended.
