(Skullgirls OST: The Fish Man's Dance)
"It would seem the ASG labs have a lot of questions to answer, Ben..." Words that came from the Princess' mouth didn't really bothered Merasmus by the slight. But to an inch of it, he was quite curious to see judging by the Princess' body language, hints the she, at some point, knew who she was talking to - A large saxophone man, dressed like a detective..? Merasmus was confused. Or rather, disturbed... But either way, with all the disturbing things that he had been through with Soldier, and her wreckless team of bad batch in the mercenary world, this would be just another bizarre walk in the park... The wizard frowned at most while ignoring the princess and the saxophone man, both now arguing over something involving the past, this kingdom, a once alliance and some things along those lines that Merasmus didn't bothered getting his business involved.
He didn't cared about these people to be truly honest. Though, he holds a slight sympathy for the young princess of Canopy Kingdom for such heavy responsibilities she's have to shoulder, but Merasmus wasn't going to let his emotions to outweigh him and his current priority, not even to the slightest. His main priority, was to get Soldier, and to convince her to be on his side and to play along the rules of this strange military... He wasn't even sure at such a bargain that he's already made with the Princess, but Merasmus was willing to do anything at any length to get himself, and Soldier back home... Speaking of which... "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ACTUALLY SIDED WITH THOSE FASCISTS! DO YOU EVEN HAVE ANY COMMON SENSE AT ALL, MAGGOT!? THEY'RE NAZIS!"
Merasmus faced his attention on Soldier, who was now holding her shotgun with gritted teeth. Merasmus frowned at the woman, but taking a few steps next to princess Parasoul, he calmly responded. All attention, fully on him and Soldier. "Soldier. For the last time... They are not Nazis. Why can't you understand something so simply said and explained you fool?" "THAT'S BECAUSE I DON'T TRUST THE FASCISTS! AND THEY ARE FASCISTS! JOIN ME HERE, MAGGOT! FORGET THOSE DAMN UMBRELLA NAZIS! THEY'RE AN ENEMY AND SHOULDN'T BE TRUSTED! I BET THEIR KINGDOM IS EVEN RULED BY A FASCIST KING! WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR THEIR HELP! -THE ANTI-SKULLGIRL LABS ARE THE ONE'S THAT CAN HELP US GET BACK HOME ONCE WE KILL THE SKULLGIRL!"
"You do not have the right to insult my father..." Parasoul finally interrupted. Clearly, she sounded very insulted, but she remained calm nonetheless without the look of being offended by Soldier's statement. She turned her head to Merasmus and continued with a somewhat bitter remark. "You're companion is not what I was expecting to meet... A rather, rude, and seemingly brain defective woman-" "YOU TAKE THAT BACK, FASCIST PRINCESS! YOU WANNA FIGHT, THEN I'LL SHOW YOU WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR!"
Merasmus was about to stop the Soldier, but it was too late when she pointed her shotgun at Parasoul at quick speed and fired. "Soldier-!" Merasmus yelled, but all he could see as things went so fast, was the Black Egrets firing at the large saxophone man, who wasn't even flinching at the bullets he's taking while fighting then back. The cat woman on Soldier's side, was also attacking Egrets at close combat with immense speed like a real cat in a body of a young woman. And lastly... Soldier... The woman was so insane she charged at Parasoul while firing her shotgun, with the Princess, thankfully, bocking the hits with her umbrella while firing back at Soldier with a German Luger pistol in hand.
Merasmus stood in shock. He didn't knew what to do... But he needed to make a decision that's for sure... Should he side with Soldier, or stay with the Egrets and side with Princess Parasoul..?
"I AM GOING KILL YOU, AND DESTROY YOUR FASCIST KINGDOM ONCE I'M THROUGH WITH YOU, MAGGOT!" Soldier shouted as she slammed her empty shotgun at the Princess, who was quick enough to block the hit with her umbrella before retaliating with a hard swing, hitting Soldier in the head, but save for her helmet, protecting her from direct impact.
As she tried and kept hitting the Princess with her shotgun without bothering to reload, the Princess managed to keep track of her attacks, and began to use counter attacking as a defensive attack. Such a clean strategic move that the princess easily calculated her attacks at a short time and can now predict her attacks... This frustrated Soldier as she finally pulled out her shovel and began using her own strategy -Through brute force- and fully charged further at the Princess. "I! WILL! KILL! YOU! MAGGOT!" Taking several direct hits from the umbrella, Soldier ignored the damages she's sustained, and finally managed to land a couple few hits on the Princess. Heavy, solid delivered blows that forcefully knocked the Princess a couple of steps back while trying to counterattack, and by the time she was slowly backing away on purpose, with their melee weapons clashing intensely, Soldier gave a very hard swing, hitting the Princess in the face with such a brute force, sending her stumbling down the ground. "Cheap... Shot.." The Princess muttered with a groan, her face, with a very visible red mark on the side turned before glaring at Soldier as she began to get back up, only this time - Soldier quickly charged and completely tackled the Princess on the ground, her hands both tightly gripped on the young woman's neck, strangling the Princess to death as she tries with her very best efforts to pry off from Soldier's strong grip while slowly beginning to choke.
"STOP!" Merasmus suddenly shouted. But then, quickly physically tackled Soldier on the ground and pinned her down. "Soldier, stop! She is not a Nazi! Neither she's a fascist! She's the Princess of Canopy Kingdom, and she is the only way of help we have to get back home! Stop this insanity at once, woman!" Merasmus furiously shouted as he pinned the Soldier down.
"I WILL NOT SIDE WITH FASCISTS! AND I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU MAGGOT! LET GO OF ME RIGHT NOW! THE ANTI-SKULLGIRL LABS ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN HELP US GET BACK HOME SO I CAN GET BACK ON KICKING YOUR ASS AT MANN MANOR!" Soldier struggled but failed to break free. God, she hated being a woman right now, and that alone, proved this moment being humiliating for her to fail breaking herself free from Merasmus.
"Cat Scratch!" Suddenly, Nadia came scratching on Merasmus' arm, before giving an upper kick at the Wizard's jaw. This caused Merasmus to get off Soldier and try to retaliate, but before he could try and hit Nadia with his wooden staff, Soldier took the chance to kick him straight in the abdomen and with enough force, Merasmus fell straight on the ground with a thud. "That... Hurt! Soldier!"
"THANKS SISTER!" Soldier quickly said as Nadia helped her up. "Don't thank me just yet..." Nadia responded, her eyes at the sight of "Big Band taking on the whole armed Black Egrets by himself. "WHERE THE HELL IS THAT BOOBY NURSE..? SHE SHOULD BE HELPING-!" Soldier stopped with a curse to forget about the nurse before pulling out her Direct Hit then turning to Nadia. "LET'S GIVE 'EM HELL, SISTER!" Nadia just grinned. "Looks like you're up for a Scratch..."
As they both charged at the Egrets to help Big Band, Soldier carefully aimed her Direct Hit and fired two rockets. Killing about seven Egrets blown up to bits. This of course, alarms Big Band while fighting alongside them. "Jane! We don't need to kill them! Just knock them down and evacuate-!" "I NEVER GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO CALL ME BY NAME, MAGGOT! AND I DO WHAT I SEE NECESSARY! THESE FASCISTS NEED TO DIE!" Rraaawr! I like this woman's thinking!"
Although Big Band protested, he didn't objected to the method of Soldier as he realized that he was finally taking quite some damages and was slowly minimizing close combat attacks on group targets. The help he gets is appreciated. But speaking of help... Where in the names of the Holy Trinity is Valentine..? She should've been here assisting from above...
Nadia on the other hand, threw her head at an Egret soldier and landing a hit before fetching on all fours to kick her head as a single projectile against the Egrets with Stg-44 rifles. This gave Soldier some opening by firing a couple of rockets from her Direct Hit, causing such devastating explosions, slaughtering the Black Egrets armed with Mp40 submachine guns. Big Band didn't liked the woman's violent nature as he witnessed the carnage. He even pity the Egrets as they get brutally slaughtered, and their killer is simply just laughing and cheering like a deranged lunatic. Mental stability is a huge part for ASG operative recruitment... This woman, Jane Doe, 'The Soldier' is not ASG material... Or more likely... More than ASG material... Whoever, or wherever she worked for before she ended up here on New Meridian, the Soldier probably was involved with something more inhumanly sadistic to be able to stomach something like what she's doing. Probably even worse than the Medici..? And her fighting methods are starting to become questionably disturbing... Did she also just knocked down Parasoul..? On her own? "Officer! Watch out!" Nadia leapt in front of him and roundhouse kicked a Black Egret who was about to shoot at him.
"Thanks... I... Already got that under control..." Big Band muttered, but Nadia just waved it off. "We're all just Under-Dogs. Can't blame you for disliking me and my gang, but just so you know, we're not enemies here... We're just fighting for something we separately believe in. Anyway..." She paused, glancing at Soldier, clearly attacking the remaining Black Egrets violently with her shovel and shotgun. Little Innsmouth is going to be under serious investigation for manslaughter soon...
"This... Has... Gone far enough..!" All remaining attention turned to Parasoul, who was finally getting back up, though being assisted by the wizard, Big Band and Nadia stood their ground. But Nadia spoke up loudly, despite Soldier's murder spree on the poor remaining Black Egrets. "You wanna know about that 'Deal' going on? Guess what, we ain't making deals with the labrats of Anti-Skullgirl labs! We were setting up a rigged ambush on Medici goons patrolling Little Innsmouth! That deal will happen tonight! To set them up by taking a bait which is our arranged deal to falsely buy smuggled guns, and to take them out on the spot as a counter tactic to their heist here on Little Innsmouth three weeks ago! But here you are, ruining things like you usually do! We just got Yu-Wan's restaurant defended from some Medici bottom feeders and now you show up all Trinity and mighty like you know what's even going on! Get lost and run back to your fancy royal castle!" Nadia bitterly spat.
Parasoul was taken back further by the words slightly, but she didn't budge and responded. "Your vigilant activities are considered illegal. You, and Ben Birdland are non-law enforcement operatives. Not anymore for you, Ben. The Egrets does not tolerate such vigilant operations."
With all the chaos between Soldier and the last few Egrets being ignored by this very moment, Big Band stepped forward. "You can't handle everything, Princess. After everything that so many soldiers under Canopy Kingdom's military and their alliance with us in the ASG... After the Grand War, and everything we've all been through together as an alliance - We should be on the same side. But you wouldn't know a thing about that, Parasoul. Because you weren't even appointed for service back then... And I thought I knew that young Princess that always admired what the ASG and Canopy Military had achieved together..."
"ENOUGH OF THIS LOAD OF CRAP!" The moment was interrupted. The chaos around them was all over now... Soldier stepped past several dead, mutilated Black Egrets before casually tossing a severe head, still wearing a Black Egret gas mask and helmet, almost like it was just a ball tossed aside... She pointed her shotgun at Parasoul with one hand, then pointed her free hand at Merasmus. "LAST CHANCE, WIZARD! YOU'RE COMING WITH ME TO THE ASG LABS, AND WE WILL KILL WHATEVER THIS SKULLGIRL IS, THEN WE CAN GET BACK HOME WITH THE HELP OF ASG!"
The wizard, Merasmus, frowned. Unlike Parasoul who was threatened and horrified at the sight of her own men, slaughtered before her and now had her umbrella raised in defense, the wizard only stood idly. Almost implying as if he has already dealt with the Soldier several times before. Perhaps, even many times that no one could even count. But nobody's the wiser aside from the Soldier and Merasmus from knowing that about the two of them and their numerous rivalry with one another...
"Soldier... Stop this nonsense... I beg of you... Don't harm the Princess, you've already slaughtered her men." Merasmus got in front of Parasoul, ready to defend her. She wore an objective look of course, but she wouldn't deny the wizard, nor even Big Band and Nadia, who both stood frozen, unsure of what's about to happen next, could see how she's clearly in bad shape already to even fight the Soldier. That woman did some real damage on her...
"WHY ARE YOU DEFENDING HER!? SHE'S A-" Soldier furiously shouted but Merasmus interrupted quickly. "Why must we always fight on opposite sides, Soldier? This is a dire situation we're both in. The last thing we want is to make it worse, and you keep making it possible, and you even seem to enjoy it!" "WELL DON'T BLAME ME, MAGGOT! I JUST WANNA KILL THE SKULLGIRL, AND GET BACK HOME TO MY TEAM!" Parasoul raised an eyebrow and whispered. "Team..?" "There's nine of them, Princess... Nine, psychotic mercenaries..." Merasmus whispered back, clearly in distaste. He swear to god and this Holy Trinity, he noticed Parasoul slightly shaken. Clearly disturbed hearing it.
"C'MMNOOOON! DON'T KEEP ME WAITING, WIZARD!" Soldier ordered, in a much threatning tone, directly to Merasmus, the wizard. "This is an act of kidnap, what you are trying to do..." Parasoul interrupted but this caused Soldier to switch out her shotgun to her Direct Hit. "I AM NOT TALKING TO YOU, FASCIST! I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY OR WHAT YOU THINK! THAT SKULLGIRL IS ONLY MINE TO KILL! WITH OR WITHOUT MERASMUS!" The lunatic turned her head to the wizard. "YOU WANNA JOIN THE FASCIST, FINE! I WILL HUNT DOWN THAT SKULLGIRL, AND KILL THE MAFIAS MYSELF!" Soldier furiously shouted. Everyone was clearly taken back by her attitude. Parasoul, Big Band and even Nadia, but all except Merasmus. This was normal for him now. This sight of Soldier alone wasn't even the bad part, let alone the worst she can be...
"This is all getting out of topic." Big Band finally spoke, but to his surprise, he noticed the shiny reflection shin of a sniper scope. A large sniper rifle... "No!" He charged toward Soldier and *BLAM!* Big Band fell onto his knee, then tried to get back up. The bullet didn't critically damaged him, but it did forced him down by his knee. "SNIPER!" Soldier shouted. Nadia immediately rushed to her side, with Merasmus looking confused, though kept his guard up. "Juju!" Parasoul shouted out.
An asian Egret sniper with a large rifle was spotted by Soldier. "I'VE DEALT WITH WORSE SNIPERS THAN YOU! AND YOU'RE NOT A PROFESSIONAL THAT HAVE STANDARDS!" Soldier without a second thought, fired her Direct Hit at a small building. The building, or specifically the top of it blew by a single rocket. The sniper wasn't spotted, no confirming if dead or somehow survived. "JUJU!" Parasoul shouted in shock. But with all her strength, she furiously charged at Soldier with her umbrella, Krieg in hand, ready to swing hard at the deranged woman in red. "No! Princess!" Merasmus called out loud but was completely ignored.
"Oh no you don't..!" Big Band immediately blocked Parasoul's charge with his cymbal shield, stunning the Princess before hitting her a couple of time with all his might before knocking her down. "I'm sorry, Parasoul... But you wouldn't understand what were really fighting for if you would keep being naive from the reality we're in now..." Big Band spoke out, trying to console with what he's said. But he was suddenly attacked by Merasmus. The wizard threw a boulder at Big Band using his levitation magic by hand. This knocked down Big Band, but he still managed to get back up. "I dare you not, challenge a wizard, you abominable musical instrument! Harm the Princess - And I will be forced to kill you!" Merasmus threatened. Parasoul was getting back up with what strength she have left. Soldier was about to fire another rocket, this time at the princess, but Big Band turned to her over his shoulder. "Go... I'll hold them off and meet up with you." Nadia glared at him and objected. "Hisss... We can fight! And I'm not leaving Minette-!" "You wanna get arrested? Or worse?" Big Band interrupted. Soldier didn't liked retreating either. But she knew what Big Band meant, and she knew where to meet up with him as a rendezvous point. "ROGER THAT! LET'S GO MAGGOT!" With that, Soldier grabbed Nadia by her arm and began dragging her. Unbeknownst to her, Nadia had the ability to detach own limbs, with her head as she did earlier being only an example.
"We can't leave Minette-!" "WE WILL COME BACK FOR HER! BUT WE NEED TO GO TO THE RENDEZVOUS POINT FOR SAFETY!" Soldier interrupted Nadia. The cat woman frowned. Although she could just detach away from her arm and attack Soldier off guard. But that's the last thing she wanted to do... Considering how dangerous she saw this woman did to those pesky Egrets... Nadia felt defeated, and only hoped to the Holy Trinity for Minette and Yu-Wan to be safe while she's forced to come along with some dangerous stranger she'd only met today... So much for setting up trap for the Medici later tonight, Nadia figured...
(Skullgirls OST: Them's Fightin' Words)
Big Band suffered several hits from Merasmus' projectile attacks. His melee attack wasn't much, which is his disadvantage, but Big Band will have to get closer to the wizard to give direct hits at the wizard. He groaned in pain, but he was going to buy enough time for Soldier and Nadia to escape. He can worry about his later... He can always tank his way in, and out... He has to...
He charged toward Merasmus, as his final attempt to attack the wizard while tanking through the projectiles, but he was caught off guard when he was shot a couple of times by Parasoul using her Luger pistol. Apparently, he got stuck in between the two, now both attacking him all at once. "Keep your distance off him, Merasmus! Use your projectiles! I'll deal with him at close range!" Parasoul ordered and Merasmus obliged. This made it difficult for Big Band to focus on Parasoul, now that Merasmus fully focused attacking him at range, while trying his best to carefully not hit the princess, who was currently in bad shape just as Big Band.
He sustained plenty more hits than his hits given on Parasoul, who sustained a couple. But not as much as Big Band sustained. Sooner, sirens and a few choppers were heard before several more Black Egrets finally arrived in the scene, witnessing Parasoul and Merasmus working together against Big Band, who still managed to give his best to put up his last stand. But his last stand was to be expected. Parasoul's umbrella, Krieg, dropped a couple of it's golden spores from its umbrella form. A couple of glowing golden orbs that surrounded Big Band. But on the outter of the golden tear orbs from the spores on Krieg, Big Band was now completely surrounded by more heavily armed Black Egrets, all pointing guns at him, with Parasoul and Merasmus among the group. "Salt... Peanuts..." Big Band muttered as he saw Parasoul, distanced from him and the golden tears of Krieg all around, walked a few steps forward. "This is the only chance I'll give you, Ben... I'll have those tears disintegrated. But you're under arrest. Come with us."
Big Band looked around. He has nowhere to run. Although he could try to get away using his rocket boosters to fly off the situation. But seeing that there were over three Black Egret choppers, each with snipers aimed and focused down on him, not to mention, the wizard, Merasmus could simply levitate in ease. He wouldn't be surprised to see the wizard able to fly after him... He gave a defeated sigh. There's always another chance to bail out... At least he could guess... "I'm getting too old for this..." He muttered before finally dropping down on both knees. Surrendering.
The golden tears surrounding him disintegrated. Then slowly came approaching, was Parasoul, speaking in a hushed, but firmed tone. "Come with us quietly, Ben..." He looked up at the young princess lifting up her royal weapon, Krieg, now shielding her from the shade of the sun. As far he could remember, she was only a young, naive princess... But that was a couple of years back... "You grew strong..."

Soldier and Nadia landed on top of a building. Both of them now deep within the city of New Meridian. "You're crazier than a rabid dog! We could've exploded by what rocket you fired on the ground just to give us a boost up here on a roof top!" Nadia angrily exclaimed. Apparently, rocket jumping wasn't a good idea... But Soldier... Soldier was Soldier... Guess she'll have to get used to this deranged lunatic around... Nadia sat on the ground, hugging her knees. "Minette and Yu-Wan... We've left them back there..." She quietly said. Soldier, looking around responded. "THOSE FASCIST, AND ANYONE FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT WOULD HAVE PARAMEDICS. THEY'LL BE FINE, MAGGOT." Nadia frowned. Soldier's loud voice wasn't comforting. But, she wasn't seeking comfort... She'll just have to get back to Minette and Yu-Wan the sooner she can. At least once the feds laid off Little Innsmouth... "Folks call me Ms. Fortune... Figured letting you know, so you can either call me that, or Nadia... Better than maggot..." She muttered a little flatly.
"SO YOUR NAME IS NADIA FORTUNE?" Soldier asked. Nadia casually nodded. "WELL... CONSIDERING I ALREADY KNOW YOU'RE PART OF THE FISHBONE GANG AND NOW I KNOW THEY'RE GOOD PEOPLE AT HEART, CARE TELLING ME HOW YOU'RE ABLE TO DETACH YOUR HEAD EARLIER WITHOUT DYING?" Soldier asked as she sat down next to Nadia. Nadia felt surprised by this. But she just casually grinned shortly. "Wanna get the full or short version?" Soldier yawned shortly before responding. "WE'RE ON THE RUN. SHORT VERSION PLEASE." Nadia just casually chuckled. "Well... I've always been part of the Fishbone Gang... But to give the summary, I had friends also in the gang. But they're all gone, except for me... Truth is, we snuck into the Medici Tower to get this artifact asked the Life Gem. It's... Kind of a complicated sorry, but that gem has the ability to keep someone younger. Basically it was owned by Lorenzo Medici, the main head of the bottom feeders, needed it to live longer, while also appearing younger. He's creepily old as heck lemme tell you that. But anyways, we managed to steal it from him and fought our way out of the Tower, Fortune-Netly, but they managed to chase us all the way to the Marina Bay near Little Innsmouth... We were ambushed... All my friends were murdered. Gunned down... And I was was chopped to pieces. Literally." Nadia paused shortly before continuing after a small sigh. "They tossed our bodies into the ocean... No witnesses, even the NMPD nearby were there, never said a word. But you know why..."
"BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT LIFE GEM? DID THEY GET IT BACK?" Soldier asked. Nadia weakly smiled before responding. "Before they got to us, I knew we were done for by the time the NMPD turned out to be helping them catch us. When the corrupt feds blocked us, I knew it was over. So I figured they won't get what they want if we were all going to die..." She looked at Soldier in the eyes seriously. "I swallowed the Life Gem." YOU WHAT!?" "Yep. I swallowed it. And by the time I was mutilated to pieces, I never expected to come back to life, in one piece. Apparently, the Life Gem not only makes whoever possess it to stay young and become ageless. It also makes them undying. But that's the... Riskiest part... If you're old like Lorenzo Medici, and you lose the Life Gem, you'd go back to being old and weak, unless you have the Gem again to make you look young and ageless again."
Soldier took a moment to process this. But then she realized with quite an emotionally expressed gasp. "DOES THAT MEAN... IF THAT LIFE GEM GETS RIPPED OUT OF YOUR BODY..." Nadia smiled weakly. "Yep... I'll die... For real... That last time I died with my friends was my last one life of all nine that I've lost from past fighting against the Medici... This is the tenth life... Heh. Could you believe it? A cat, with ten lives? Nine, standard lives, but one secret final, extra... Had me in Stitches..." She made a very poorly bad timed pun for a joke... Soldier felt bad for her... " THIS IS ALL SO SAD... BUT LET ME SEE IF I CAN HELP YOU AND YOUR PEOPLE SORTED OUT OF THIS MAFIA CRAP OF A PROBLEM!" Nadia only smiled weakly at what Soldier said. But then she changed the subject as she noticed a large billboard on the roof top with them. "I guess your rocket jumping got us landing not on the moon. But in the Stars..."
Soldier looked at the billboard. She saw a childish display of outer space, and the stars in pinkish and purple colors. In front was a cute little white eyeless bunny, with a golden eyeball in its mouth while smiling happily. Next to it, was a child, probably at age eleven or twelve as Soldier assumed. Sporting a cyan green dress, and has cyan green colored turquoise styled hair with a pair of long braids. She held a sword, and wore a white eye patch, covering her right eye... Minus the golden star on the eye patch, Soldier snickered. She remembered the nurse all of a sudden... But where is that damn boobed nurse? Did she just ditched her and Big Band? Soldier frowned and focused on the child at the billboard. "SEASON 199: EPISODE 1 OF THE LONG-TIME RUNNING SHOW 'ANNIE OF THE STARS' PREMIERING TONIGHT AT 9:00 PM..."
Nadia scoffed. "She's the super popular child star. Annie. Very influential to kids. Most adults grew up from generation, to generation, to generation knowing her by the show. Even I grew up watching some of it. I think it was like... Season 85... Or 86... Eh... I dunno. The show's got more lives than a cat like myself. It's been around for a long time as most people could remember... Anyway, I'd rather we take the stairs down off this building than... Risk giving me another lift in your crazy rocket jumping thing. We might as well get you a trip down inside to see live filming of Annie on set. If, we're Fortune-Nete..." Soldier stared at the child.
