Chapter 1: The First Arrancars (Hisana Pov)

My name is Kurosaki Hisana. I am fourteen years old and one of the last soul reapers in existence. I was once part of the many spiritual guardians to the world of the living.

"We merit the balance of good and evil souls and protect the Soul Society", My parents would constantly tell my older brother and I. "Keeping the peace and balance of both worlds is what we do. What we always must do."

What my parents failed to tell me was that peace and balance can be easily thrown out of sync. I remember the day my entire world was shattered forever. A masked man who called himself "Emperor '' attacked and conquered the Seireitei in a matter of days. My parents tried stopping him in the world of the living, but they were no match for him and his powers. In the days that followed, he conquered the three worlds and killed my parents-something no villain has achieved.

All of this was possible thanks to a forbidden device that had the power to command time and space itself. For the next year, the remaining shinigami and I battled the Emperor and his lackeys. We did our best to free others from the Emperor's grasp. One day, Urahara Kisuke and his son/my best friend Hansuke found the answer to save our dark future.

Time travel.

When someone pledges their soul to the Emperor, he gives them a single golden key which grants the individual a one shot at manipulating their own timestream. Hansuke and I stole one from one of the guardsmen who was a former friend of ours. We presented it to Head Captain Kyoraku without hesitation. After debating amongst the rest of the surviving Captains, the Head Captain chose Hansuke and I.

"Kurosaki Hisana. Urahara Hansuke. Do you understand the importance of this mission?" I said to us before we ran through the precipice world with the enemy behind us. "Understand this, once you enter the past, each action comes with a dire consequence. Remember that"

"Yes, Captain." Suke and I said in unison. "We will not fail you."

I wondered what kind of consequences he meant? There were so many questions I wanted to ask. Hansuke drilled various scenarios and plans into my head in case we got separated or faced someone from the past. I never thought either of us would face a legendary foe as the first arrancars literally within our first hours of landing in the past. Despite the never-ending list of rules, we each made a pact not to interfere with the past unless absolutely necessary.

Since my father isn't showing up, I have no choice but to save Aunt Orhime myself.

"Bankai." I said in a whisper as I slightly twisted my zanpakuto.

A beam of light shot into the afternoon sky as swirls of dust clouds shrouded my body, allowing me and my sword to transform. As I feel my spiritual pressure increase, my once plain zanpakuto transformed into a deadly weapon.

A long black blade is in my hand, slender and smooth with a silver circular guard that had two golden crescent shaped moons inside that surrounded the beginning of the blade. The hilt was made of black and red cloth that is braided with slight accents of golden specks. At the end of the pommel- a blood red ribbon fluttered in the violent wind.

I glanced down and saw my outfit slightly changing. A soul reaper's uniform normally is a black and white kimono, but my bankai says otherwise. I wore a blood red kimono with a knee length hem and black ruffles on the sleeves. A black slash is tied around my waist with a bow in the black.

When I saw the transformation complete and my spiritual pressure reach bankai level, I slashed my blade into the air, dispersing the dust clouds around me.

"Kaikigesshoku." Total Lunar Eclipse. I proclaimed but never took my eyes off my opponent. From the back of my head, I felt Aunt Orihime's stare. "Orihime, stand back, please. I don't want you to get hurt."

" Al-alright. …" She replied softly, following the sound of her footsteps.

The arrancar lifted his left arm and scratched his nearly bald head. "So, you have a bankai, huh?" He asked in a confused tone.

I didn't reply.

He turned to his gloomy partner. "Hey, Ulquiorra. This isn't the target right? I thought it was a boy."

Ever since I was little, I would always imagine what it would be like to meet the infamous enemies my parents faced. Growing up with the stories from Grand Fisher to Ywatch, having actual arrancars before me, it was a different experience. Just standing before them and feeling their spiritual pressure, it was violent, fierce, and dead-right powerful. It made me wonder just how powerful Ywatch and Aizen were.

However, what had surprised me the most about the arrancars was their appearances.

They're just like what I'd imagined.

The arrancar right before me was no doubt Yammy Llargo; Espada #10. My parents described him as almost giant-like. Nothing like Sternitter Gerald Valkyrie from Uncle Byakuya's tales, Gerald could actually be a giant. Nevertheless, Yammy was extremely tall. I had to crank my neck high just to meet his brown terrifying eyes that made me feel small and insignificant. His red markings underneath his eyes added a murderous vibe to his personality. To an average person, they weren't that small. From an early teen and incredibly very short for my age perspective, I was like a little kid compared to this guy!

Tanned skinned, powerful build, and a ridged line cranium that always reminded me of fish fins(Don't ask why). He has black hair pulled in a low ponytail and bushy sideburns that could seriously stab you, but it wasn't as dangerous as a certain captain I know. Aside from the detailed descriptions, he sadly was indeed bald. In the center of his chest is a large hole signifying his previous time as a hollow. What remains from that previous life, a masked jawbone with eight teeth that rests on his chin.

Standing, a few feet behind right behind him was Ulquiorra Cifer, Espada #4. Aunt Orihime or should I say the future one was the one who told me about him. I recall her saying he was quite handsome for an arrancar and damn she was. He wasn't brute looking like his fellow espada, but slender and fairly muscular with an average height and melancholic expression. Short, messy black hair with a hollow mask on the top-left side of his head that was indeed shaped like a broken hornet helmet.

His skin pale-eyes an emerald green with small slit shaped pupils much like a cat's. He even parted his bangs between his eyes like me, but I didn't have the teal lines descending from the lower eyelids. That just made him more attractive in my opinion, and it made his thick eyebrows pop.

Hisana! My Zanpakuto screamed mentally. Don't crush on the enemy!

Unlike Yammy whose white arrancar jacket was open, Ulquiorra's had a longer coattail and a higher collar.

I can't help it. I'm a hormonal teen.

Not. Helping.

Sorry.

When Yammy looked back at him for an answer, Ulquiorra was staring at me in deep thought.

Crap, what's he thinking? I hope he can't smell the time residue on me and Hansuke.

That doesn't matter! screamed my sword. What matters is to fix this changed event. You know the tale by heart. Despite your father not being here to challenge him, just do what he did and that should fix this in order for the next major event to take place.'

Ulquiorra parted his lips and said. "Oh yammy. You really need to work on your investigated skills more. You should know by one glance that this little girl isn't our target. But the highlighted orange hair and the black bankai? Lord Aizen told me only the substitute soul reaper possessed that color blade."

I held back a laugh and the urge to fangirl right here and now. Containing the excitement growing inside of me, I maintained composure by smirking at Ulquiorra.

"Maybe Lord Aizen isn't as omniscient as he claims to be," I said to no one in particular. "There's so much he doesn't know."

Ulquiorra's eyes widened from shock as if I cussed in a church. "How dare you speak of him that way!"

"So...can I kill her?" Yammy asked curiously.

Ulquiorra caught me totally ignoring him, by glancing at Suke (a nickname for Hansuke) who was lying unconscious on the ground. I could barely feel his spiritual pressure. This is bad.

"Go ahead, Yammy." I heard Ulquiorra say. " I'm sure she's probably trash as well."

I slowly turned around and saw Yammy with murderous eyes as he shouted his infamous catchphrase,"Que Suerte!" He formed a fist and dropped a punch towards me. I blocked it with my zanpakuto as the ground around us crumbled from the collision.

It was Yammy's turn to widen his eyes from shock. As much as I wanted to revel in this moment, I was angry. I crank my head up and gave him a murderous stare of my own.

I gritted my teeth and hissed. "Are you the reason Suke is lying unconscious on the ground?"

He gave me a cocky grin. "You gonna do something about it, small fry?"

"Matter of fact. I am."

I jumped high in the air and sliced off his left arm before he could process a cero. I landed next to him, listening to his blood-curdling scream. He turned sharply and began to use his right arm to punch, but I dodged it in a jump.

He panted. "Damn. You little runt!"

Landing a few inches away from him, I swing my sword over my shoulder. "I'm surprised you can still call me names. It's true what the stories say, you are tough as you are ugly... You know, I'm pretty proud of myself. Considering, I just learned Bankai like three days ago."

Before Yammy could respond, Ulquiorra intervened. "It seems you're having a hard time, Yammy. Shall I take over?"

Damn his voice is sexy. Instead of working for Aizen, he should come to the world of the living and be a voice actor for anime. He'd make millions.

Focus! Gesshoku yelled.

Yammy growled at Ulquiorra for a moment. "Stay back!" When he touched his sword, Ulquiorra sighed. "I can't believe you need your Zanpakuto to take care of a piece of trash."

I knew what I had to do next and it involved excruciating pain on me and others.

Forgive me, Aunt Orihime.

I "acted" surprised when Yammy slowly drew his Zanpakuto. "That's a zanpakuto..." I said aloud and went into shock. I placed a hand over my face and began to shake. Yammy took the bait and kicked me hard in the stomach, sending me flying across the field. I heard Orihime cry and rushed over to us.

Counting the steps until she was near us, I turned around and yelled at her. "STAY WHERE YOU ARE!"

Whack. Yammy's hand cupped my head and slammed me into the rocky ground. Crack.

Orihime raised her arms to her head, motioning to activate her Shun Shun Rikka. Yet, on the third step Yammy slapped her across the face that sent her flying. She tumbled to the ground and rolled next to Uncle Chad.

"ORIHIME NO!" I bellowed, mustering some power to get up.

"Shut up!" Yammy ordered as he pulled back his arm for another punch. I stood up and used my body to shield Aunt Orihime's. I was on my hands and knees when he punched me simultaneously on my back. I had to use all my strength just to stop my knees from collapsing from the amount of force he was inflicting on me.

I stood up, spun around, and allowed him to punch me across the face like a punching bag a couple of times. And as he did, I was so completely horrified that I couldn't move a single muscle. I now know what dad felt, I thought as I felt Yammy enormous hand grip my head once more, ready to squeeze it like a zit.

At that moment, I could hear dad's voice. I could see the memory of him, telling me a bedtime story. 'With each swing, I felt my strength and spiritual pressure rapidly decrease into nothing. I groaned in pain. My vision blurred. I was helpless.'

Five year old me gasped and jumped up and down on his lap from suspense and excitement. 'What happened next daddy! What happened next!'

'He lifted me off the ground and threw me like a rag doll. He then said,

'I'm done messing around. Time for you to disappear!'

Hang on, Hisana! Gesshoku said in encouragement. Just a few more seconds.

Yammy threw me on the ground, and I coughed up blood. I opened my eyes and saw his fist about to deliver the final blow.

3...2...1...

Just like clockwork, a familiar man in a green and white striped hat and dark coat flash stepped in front of me. He stopped Yammy's blow with his shield. "Hey there, young lady. Sorry, I couldn't get here any sooner. You know how it is."

"What the?" Yammy said as Urahara flashed that all too familiar grin. "All these bugs keep popping out of nowhere and getting in the way! But since you stepped into the front lines, that means you're gonna get killed first. Sucka'!"

Yammy threw another punch our way, but then Auntie Yoruichi appeared and took care of him. Grabbing his wrist, she tossed him effortlessly to the side.

"I always wanted to see that." I muttered under my breath.

She glanced back at me, then at Uncle Kisuke.

"I got this." She said to him.

"He's all yours." He replied, handing her a small bag. Yammy rose and screamed a battle cry, but before he first made contact with their bodies. They flash stepped away, and he punched the ground.

Urahara appeared next to me, and he lifted me gently off the ground.

Parting my bloody mouth, I wheezed. "Unc-Mister-I'm sor-"

"That was very brave of you, young lady." He said kindly, putting a healing pill in my mouth. "Taking on an Espada like that? And if I didn't show up you were ready to fight the second one, weren't you?"

I parted my lips to reply, but he hushed me. "Don't speak. Will talk about this when we get back to my shop-"

"Y-yes, b-but m-my friend over there." Your son. I turned my head and stretched out an arm to Hansuke. "P-Please h-help him. I-I can't sense h-his sp-iritual p-pressure."

Urahara looked up towards him and gave me a smile. "He's just fine. Please rest. We'll take it from here."

I felt my bankai vanished, and I returned back to my normal shinigami uniform. Urahara gently placed me back on the ground away from the battle.

When I turned to look at his face, my vision started to blur. "Unc.. Kisuke..." I whispered, trying to blink the blackness away but exhaustion whisked me off into complete darkness.
