Jaune and Courage the Cowardly Dog

Chap 29: Mission to the Sun

It was a beautiful sunny day. And everything was clean and fresh. It has been a month since Conway came here and left in a polluted balloon. Winter and Weiss did recover from seeing that filthy pig and are now back at Beacon. Though, a week after Conway was gone, Winter came back with a specialized cleaning crew to decontaminate the place since there was toxic waste material and some other hazardous material here. And while it was a bit painful the cleaning process, I was glad that we were now completely safe.

Currently, Muriel and I were outside watering some plants we had planted earlier in the week. Eustace was working on his truck as it got damaged from all the mud and trash that got into the engine. Courage was inside the house having a snack. Hearing a door open, I looked up and saw Courage coming over to us with the mail in his mouth.

"Oh, Courage. You got the mail." Muriel said as she stopped watering the flowers. Which already made her a better farmer than Eustace.

"Anything interesting Muriel?" I asked as she opened up the mail which was only one letter.

"Yes. It's an offer for a time share. All we have to do is take a little trip. Boys, we're going on vacation." Muriel answered happily.

"There's got to be a catch." I told Courage.

'When isn't there a catch?' Courage sighed as he already started wondering what it could be.

"Hopefully, it's not too ridiculous or dangerous." I hoped as I stood back up.

We then all headed back inside the house to fill out the paper while also getting ready for the trip. Though, I felt like we're going to find something out that no one has ever seen before.

One Week Later 8 A.M. Space

*CROW*

'All right. Nap time is over. You twits' The voice on the intercom said waking us up before opening up the pods we were sleeping in. Stretching, we all hopped down from the pods.

'Wow, that was a good rest.' I thought as I stretched a bit more. I never thought that sleeping upright in a pod could be so good.

'Maybe, we can make some makeshift ones for when we get back home?' Courage said turning to me. I was about to say something when we heard a loud crash next to us. Turning to it, we Eustace on the floor.

"Hey, what did I do?" He asked confused. Looking u, I saw that his pod moved meaning that the computer shook the pod to get him to wake up.

"Morning everyone." Glynda said through a yawn as she hopped down from her pod.

"How is everyone feeling?" Winter asked as she stretched as well before hoping down as well.

"Sensational." Penny answered walking up to us. Since she was a robot and did not need 'sleep' like the rest of us, she was in another room for the night.

"Now that we are all up. How about we head up to the front and see what we are tasked to do?" Muriel suggested.

We all nodded and headed towards the front part of the rocket where the main computer was. All the while Eustace grumbled at having to do this without his paper. Doing what you may ask? Well, to go and try out a new experimental rocket that uses no dust and ride it into space. Just your typical trip one must take to get a timeshare of your choice. But once we saw that Glynda, Winter and Penny were coming along, we all knew that there was a hidden objective that we most also do. What that objective is, still remains to be seen. However, what worries us the most is that Penny, Winter and Glynda are also clueless about the whole thing as well. After a solid ten minutes, we reached the front of the rocket where Eustace immediately got in the chair and started pressing buttons randomly.

"Darn this rocket. Can't get any picture on the t.v." Eustace complained as he started slamming the buttons.

"Must you always be a brute?" Winter asked before yanking him away from the chair with Glynda using her semblance to hold him down as she also despises Eustace. Even though she only met Eustace briefly the first time and briefly this time as well, she already hates him a lot.

"What are you trying to look for Winter?" Glynda asked.

"The controls mainly but I also feel like there is a message that was left for us. Found it." Winter answered before pressing a set of buttons which caused a hologram to appear.

'Hey, that looks like the general we saw at the pentagon.' Courage said seeing the hologram of the very same general appear.

"You have met this general before Jaune and Courage?" Penny asked,

"Wait, you met this man before?" Winter also asked.

"Yes, we met him in a place called the pentagon. We tried to get his help but he was an idiot who only seemed interested in brutalizing his lieutenant with random objects. They even thought that we were pizza boys when they realized we were in the same room with them for ten minutes before noticing us." I explained.

"Oh, no." Winter said not liking how I described him.

"Then this can't be good." Glynda said already dreading what was happening when a voice came on. But it did not belong to the general.

'The following information is classified. Not to mention vital, to the security of the human and faunus race. Thank you.' The voice exclaimed before going eerily calm at the end.

"Blah, blah, blah." Eustace complained still being held down by Glynda. But then grumbled when she smacked him on the head with her weapon.

"I think the man with the shiny buttons has something important to tell us." Muriel said pointing to the general.

"He might tell us why we are really doing this. Hopefully." Winter said as she pinched her nose in frustration.

Seeing that he now had the floor and our attention, the man cleared his throat and began to talk. Only for everyone to grow confused and irritated when the general only spoke actual gibberish and nobody could understand him. A screen even appeared behind the genral in many different languages that none of us knew either. And as if to throw salt on the wounds, at the very end, the general said in perfect clear English; God Speed.

"Oh, my." Muriel said confused.

'Huh?' Courage asked confused as well.

"Did anyone else understand him?" Winter asked. Her eyes visibly twitching.

"No. Ozpin will pay for sending me on this flight. And on the one time I can actually relax." Glynda answered nearly breaking her weapon in two from how angry she was. I honestly felt bad for her since she usually had very little time to herself and now Ozpin took it away from her this time.

"Penny, do you understand?" I asked turning to her.

"Sorry Jaune. I have no data or understanding of what language he was speaking." She answered looking down.

"Just change the channel." Eustace spoke up not understanding anything that just happened. But was silenced when Glynda and Winter smacked him at the same time with their weapons.

"Okay. So, does anyone know how to translate that or are we just completely lost?" Winter asked with her head in her hands. But before anyone could answer, the computer, that sounded a lot like the one back at the house, spoke up.

'Don't you dolts speak English?' It began with an insult. Making it near identical with the one back home. 'The sun is about to go out. You have to fix it. Everything you need is in that briefcase over there.'

"That doesn't seem realistic." Winter said looking over to the briefcase.

"I swear if this is a prank..." Glynda said before trailing off as she tried her best to calm down.

"I also want to say this is a prank, but considering what Courage and I have faced before, this doesn't seem too far out of the realm of possibilities." I said as I went over to the briefcase and began to open it. Only to reveal a comically large bulb. "On second thought, this has to be a prank."

"Seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a time share." Muriel said sounding worried and surprised.

"Thats how they get ya. Gotta read the fine print." Eustace said bitterly as if he knew from the beginning this exact thing was going to happen. But thankfully, this time he was silenced completely. And by this, I mean that Glynda and Winter fully knocked him out as they ran out of patience with him. Honestly, who wouldn't with him.

'If you don't fix the sun. It'll glow bright red and then it goes out.' The computer finished.

"Well, if someone is going to fix the sun, it might as well be us, I suppose." Muriel said now wanting to help.

"Especially since we are already on our way to the sun it seems." Penny added sounding worried if she could survive the high temperatures of the sun.

'So, do get the sun fixed before the clock hits zero. You twits.' The computer said before going silent.

"You know Jaune. If there was such a thing as computers like this one having siblings, I would say he is a relative to the one in your house." Glynda said glaring at the computer.

"I agree. Especially how this one also seems to like insulting people." Winter added.

"Yeah, he does seem similar to the one back at the house." I agreed.

"Well then, since we have about four hours before we get there according to this clock, we might as well explore around the ship to occupy ourselves." Muriel suggested.

"I think that would be a good for all of us." Glynda said nodding.

"I agree as I want to see how this ship can possibly get us to the sun without melting. Not to mention, this ship does not run-on dust so I am genuinely interested to see what powers it." Winter said curious.

We all nodded at this. Glynda went in the direction of the cafeteria. Probably to get herself something to drink to calm her nerves down. Winter went wo where the engines and fuel are kept. Muriel said she will go around and clean up the ship a bit. Eustace, who had woken up said he's going to the bathroom. Once they were gone, that left me, Penny and Courage in the room.

"What do guys want to do?" I asked them.

"How about we try and learn more about what this computer?" Penny suggested.

'I think that would be good idea. Maybe we can even find out how that lightbulb will fix the sun.' Courage said hopping onto the chair and began pressing buttons randomly.

"I think that will be a good idea. As I am curious how a light bulb will fix the sun." I agreed. Stepping closer, we watched Courage continue to press buttons but got startled a bit when the computer suddenly spoke up.

'No, no. You space monkey. Press "SHIFT" and then "ENTER."' The computer said sounding as if he had something planned.

'Alright.' Courage said as he followed the command. Only for the speaker to open up with a mechanical arm quickly coming out with a pie and smashing it against Courage's face.

'Ha, ha, ha! I get them with that every time.' The computer said laughing as the arm went back to where it was.

"He is definitely related to the one at the house." I said as I cleaned the pie from Courage's face. Though I did eat a piece to find out that it was a strawberry pie.

"Do you think the one who programmed this computer also made the computer at your house Jaune?" Penny asked.

"I doubt that. But it wouldn't surprise me it that was true." I answered as I cleaned my hands. I then picked up Courage and sat in the chair to try myself.

'Okay, rocket boy.' The computer began sounding mischievously. 'Double click the icon that looks like a little doggy.'

"Simple enough." I said doing so before moving to the side to avoid a pie that I thought was going to come. Only to feel like an idiot when tar hit me from above followed by feathers falling on me.

'Ha! You two are gullible.' The computer taunted. Hearing some chuckling, I turned and saw Penny chuckling.

"Not one word." I said struggling not to laugh as well. But failed when Penny started fully laughing along with Courage,

"Shall you all try one more?" A voice from behind asked. Turning around, we saw Glynda and Winter approaching us. Each was smirking when they saw me covered in tar and feathers.

"I must say Jaune, that look suits you." Winter said giving a light chuckle.

"Now, shall you try one more time?" Glynda asked smiling.

"Sure." I answered with a smile as Courage and I pressed one more button. Only to instantly regret it when two giant fists came flying from the speaker and hit us square in the face. The force stunning us a bit which caused me and Courage to fall to the ground.

"Are you okay Jaune?" Penny asked helping me up.

"Yeah, my aura got me covered. How about you Courage." I answered before asking Courage.

'Yeah, I'm fine.' He said as he shook his head.

"Now, that you both had your fun, is there something you need?" I asked

"To get you three as since there is only a rough two hours before we get to the sun, Muriel decided to make all of us some food." Glynda answered.

"Okay, we're coming." I told them.

Though as we made our way out of the room, I noticed Penny looking a bit dejected at this. Most likely that she is unable to eat like the rest of us. That made me hope that one day she can become human so she can experience the joys of being a human. Going through the spaceship, we eventually made our way to the dining room and saw Muriel and Eustace already sitting down. On the table there was some plates for each of us. Including one for Penny. Sitting down, we saw that on the plate was a weird pink tube. We were confused on what this was but Winter seemed to know what it is.

"And here I thought I would no longer have to eat food from a tube." Winter said irritably.

"Um, how do you eat this?" Glynda asked.

"Place your mouth onto the tube and squeeze the paste into your mouth." Winter answered.

"Lousy stinking tube food." Eustace complained before doing what Winter said and ate some of the paste. "Hey, not bad."

"Your right." Winter said surprised as she ate some of the paste. "Wish I had some of this back in the academy."

"Sadly, this tube food is better than most of the food that is served in Beacon." Glynda said while easting some of the food.

"Now that we are all here, we can discuss on how to actually fix the sun with that lightbulb." Winter said getting our attention.

"Did you three find anything?" Glynda asked. I was about to answer but stopped when Muriel started seeming woozy.

"Ohh..." She moaned trialing off as she seemed to lose focus.

"Are you okay Ms. Bagge?" Penny asked.

"Birds!" Muriel said suddenly instead.

"Birds? Are you sure you are okay Ms. Bagge?" Glynda asked worried.

"Ah, you're seeing things. More turkey in a tube." Eustace dismissed what she said which angered Glynda and Winter. But before they could do anything, Muriel spoke up again.

"HALIFAX! Wicky, wicky, wicky! Mambo time." Muriel said seeming to have lost it. But what caught our attention was that her voice was extremely high at first but went deep at the end.

"Muriel, I think you should... What?" I began but stopped when Muriel's suddenly her hair went into her head and come back out a as an extremely long red beard.

"What's... huh?" Eustace asked confused.

'AAHHHH!' Courage gasped when he saw this.

"What is happening?" Penny asked when the beard disappeared and Muriel's came back but was about fifty times as much before returning to normal.

"AAAHHHHH!" Muriel screamed while flailing her arms and legs before falling out of her chair after picking up the tube of food.

"Hey, what you do that for?" Eustace asked getting annoyed.

"I don't know." Muriel said in a childlike voice before reaching and pulling on Eustace's ear.

"Muril, hear what I say? AAHHH!" Eustace asked before screaming in pain as Muriel pulled and stretched his ear to ridiculous lengths. She then pulled his nose and stretched his nose that same way she did to his ears. And finally pulled out a nose hair from him.

"Ms. Bagge, behave yourself." Winter reprimanded.

"AAHHHH!" Eustace screamed again when Muriel ignored Winter and jumped onto Eustace's shoulder and started to play drums on his head. Then she grabbed Eustace's head and somehow pulled him out of his chair and slammed him onto the table.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Glynda shouted before pulling out her weapon and used her semblance and used in on Muriel to restrain her and brought her to the center of the room.

"Ms. Bagge calm yourself and we will release you." Winter said warning her.

"Ha, ha, ha." Muriel laughed ignoring what Winter said and somehow defying Glynda's semblance and started inflating her space suit to an enormous size before shrinking down and repeating it a few more times.

"WHAT IS HAPPENING?!" Glynda asked shocked at what she was seeing. However, because she got distracted, Muriel was no longer trapped and moved to the table and took a giant bite out of the table and swallowed the piece she broke off.

"Come on, come on. Set it off." Muriel challenged as if we were in a boxing match.

"AAAHHHHH!" Eustace and Courage both screamed in terror.

"Muriel. Please calm down." I told her now extremely worried.

"I think I could use a wee nap." Muriel said happily as if nothing just happened. She then walked down the hall. But instead of walking on the floor like everyone else, she walked on the ceiling.

'What just happened?' Courage asked shivering while holding Eustace who was scared as well.

"In all my years of living and listening to Ports stories, I have never come across something as strange out of place like that." Glynda said staring off into the hallway.

"Something is definitely wrong with her and I doubt she is losing her mind or is just sick." Winter said pointing to the table that Muriel tore a chunk off with her mouth.

"Perhaps it's an alien." Penny suggested.

"Don't be ridiculous Penny." Winter chided.

"Actually, the last time Penny was here, we were visited by an extraterrestrial race. Though not an organic one as it was a robot." I said defending Penny.

"Wait, so both actually met an alien race." Winter said amazed.

'Yeah,' Courage said supporting us. I took out my scroll and showed them an image I took of Penny standing on top of Robot Randy.

"Wow. I didn't expect that." Glynda said surprised. "So perhaps it's an alien as like Winter said, its highly doubtful that it's a simple sickness."

"But the question still remains on how to cure Muriel and get rid of the alien." Winter reminded us.

"AAAHHH, you're all-seeing things. I'm off to get my hat back." Eustace said annoyed before getting off Courage and leaving the room.

'Perhaps the computer might know.' Courage suggested.

"Worth a shot Courage." I told him.

"What did he say?" Glynda asked.

"Courage suggested that we use the ships computer. Since its similar to the one back at Jaune's house, it might actually know what to do." Penny answered and explained what Courage said.

"That could work or at the very least rule some stuff out." Winter said agreeing with us.

"Let us go." Glynda said turning to the door. We got up from our seats and made our way to the computer room. Getting there, Courage sat down in the chair and began typing into the console.

'Oh, you all. What do you all want?' The computer asked annoyed.

"Muriel is not acting right and we want to know what is wrong with her." I answered as Courage typed in what we saw.

'Of course, Muriel is acting weird. She's locked in a tin can with you isn't she.' The computer taunted before a seltzer spray bottle quickly came out and sprayed Courage three times before it went back inside the console.

"This will be your only warning. Keep this up and I will make sure you get destroyed in the most painful way possible." Glynda threatened having no patience for the computer.

"And I will make sure we can do it," Winter added while gripping her weapon tightly.

*Sigh* 'You all are no fun. Can't take a joke can you. Okay, okay. I know exactly what's wrong with Muriel and how you can save her and the sun from going out all at once.' The computer said annoyed.

"Well then, what is it? What do we do?" I asked impatiently as I saw that we were getting close to the sun.

'All you have to do is...' The computer began to answer but trailed off a bit and could no longer understand him as his speech became garbled. Static then came flying from the console with red, blue and yellow lights coming from the panel above us.

"What just happen?" Penny asked while covering herself from the sudden flashing lights.

'AAAHHHHH!' Courage screamed getting our attention. He then pointed to the clock and we saw that we had less than half an hour before the sun would go out.

"Crap, the computer is dead. We have no control at all." I told them as I tried to get a response form the console but nothing happened.

'What do we do? What do we do?' Courage asked panicked.

"Wait, maybe I can hardwire or find out what went wrong." Penny suggested.

"And how do you plan on doing that?" Glynda asked.

"Behind that panel is all the wires. Maybe one got loose or was cut. I can go in and fix it." Penny answered.

"All right. But be careful Penny." I told her as she got on her knees. Before she went in though, I gave her my scroll with the camera function on. "When your inside, before you fix it, take a picture of the damage."

"Okay." Penny said going in followed by Courage.

"What do you think happened Jaune?" Winter asked.

"I have no idea. But I have a feeling that Muriel did this." I answered.

"Your right. Muriel ate through the wires." Penny said startling us.

"Wait, so whatever is controlling Muriel made her eat the wires?" Glynda asked worried.

"Yeah, she caused the console to shut down by chewing though nearly every wire next to her room." Penny explained.

"This is not good." Winter stated while pulling out her sword.

"We have to restrain her before whatever is controlling her does more damage." Glynda added as she took her weapon back out.

"Right, but before we go, we have to put on our helmets as we are about to land but to also be able to breathe in case Muriel destroys the oxygen supply." I told them while passing out helmets. Even giving ono to Penny and telling her I wanted to make sure she was safe even though she did not need to breathe and that I just want to make sure she is safe and not take any risks.

"All right, let's go." I said through the radio once everyone had their helmets on and checking to make sure the radios were working.

Nodding, I grabbed the suitcase as we were close to landing before heading down to Muriel's room. But we did not need to go that far as after a few turns, we found Muriel. And gasped when we saw her chewing through the tube that gave oxygen into Eustace spacesuit. He was outside trying to retrieve his hat that he lost when he used the bathroom when the hat fell into the toilet.

"Ha, ha, ha!" Muriel laughed in a different voice entirely. We also just noticed that her skin was now green.

"AAAHHHH!" We heard Eustace scream into the radio as we saw him through the window drift through space and away from the ship.

"My name is Mastafa Al Bacterius. I am inside the brain of Muriel." The alien inside Muriel announced.

"Why have you come here to do this?" Winter demanded pointing her sword at Muriel which made me and Courage sweat nervously at the thought of Muriel getting hurt.

"I have come a great distance to sabotage your mission. You humans are not satisfied messing with your planet. You feel the need to mess with space also. Well, if the sun wants to fizzle, let it. We like it dark." The alien answered.

"But nobody will be able to see without the sun's light." Penny told him.

"So, get a flashlight and some D-Cells cause it's lights out space clowns." The alien argued.

'OOOH!' Courage whined before lunging at Muriel's head and looing inside her ear.

"Ha, ha, ha." We heard the alien laugh himself instead of through Muriel.

"That's not going to happen." Glynda said as she sued her semblance to restrain Muriel so as to prevent her from doing any more harm.

"Think again." The alien said through Muriel before making her suit inflate again like before I was confused as to the purpose of this but got my answer when I saw that it allowed the alien to make Muriel to reach and turn the knob next to them which controlled the gravity.

"Woah!" We all shouted when we suddenly started floating due to the gravity being turned off.

"Gotcha." The alien/Muriel said as they kicked Courage at Glynda which caused her to release Muriel.

"OOF!" They grunted as they hit the wall behind them. But they swiftly managed to bounced off the wall and float back towards Muriel. The alien seemed ready for this but got surprised when I jumped on her back.

"Hey, let go." The alien/Muriel demanded as she tried to reach me to toss me off. But before she could, Penny and Courage grabbed onto her arms to restrain her. The alien tried to move around to get them off but froze when Glynda used her semblance to send her to the wall. Then Winter pulled out some ice dust to make sure she could no longer try anything else.

"Okay, she is restrained. But now we need to figure out how to get rid of the alien." Glynda said as she examined Muriel's ear to see if she could see the alien again.

'I got it.' Courage said as he floated to Muriel's head and placed a plunger on her head and started to try and use it to get the alien out.

"Um, Courage. I do not believe that will work." Winter said as she moved to get Courage off. But before she could, Courage had somehow pulled to her which not only sent him flying away with the plunger, but break Muriel out of the ice that Winter created and sent her flying into the head first toilet that was across the hall.

"These people and dog are terrible. Look what they did. Look what they did." The alien said as it struggled to get Muriel out.

"Hold on Muriel. We'll get you out." I shouted after turning the gravity back on. But as we made our way there, we nearly fell over when the ship landed on the sun followed by getting extremely hot really quickly.

"We landed." Winter surmised after getting her balance back.

"That means we are short on time." Glynda said before turning to us. "We'll get Muriel out of the toilet. You three fix the sun somehow."

"Okay. We'll be back." I said as we exited the ship and stepped onto the sun.

"Where do we go to?" Penny asked looking around.

'Over there!' Courage shouted getting our attention. Looking to where he was pointing, we saw steps leading into the core of the sun. Though I did mentally wonder why they looked like subway steps. Running there, we quickly went down the steps and through the long narrow hallway. After a few minutes, we reached the core of the sun.

"Really. The sun is powered by a single bulb." I said disbelieving at what I am seeing.

'Jaune. We save pulled Muriel out of the toilet. She is safe and has a helmet on with the alien now gone from her.' Winter told me through the radio.

"That's good." I said as we approached the bulb. But we stopped when Glynda's voice came on.

'But the ship literally melted. You have to hurry!' Glynda said urgently.

"Quick." I said panicked as I opened the suitcase and grabbed the bulb while Penny removed the bulb that need to be replaced.

'OOHHH!' Courage whimpered when Penny removed the bulb and it became pitch black instantly.

"I got it." I said as I plugged the new bulb in which made the sun light up brightly again.

"Yes. Mission accomplished." Penny shouted in joy.

'Now, let's go back to the others.' Courage told us as he picked up the suitcase.

"Right, let's go." I said as we raced back to the surface of the sun. Getting there, we saw Muril, Glynda and Winter bouncing up and down because the sun was burning their feet.

"Great, you three fixed the sun." Winter said jumping up and down.

"But how are we ever going to get out of here?" Muriel asked. At that moment, we heard Eustace laughing. Looking up, we saw him riding a giant asteroid back to earth.

"Hang on." Courage and I shouted as we press a button on our suits which launched a grappling hook from the gloves which managed to hook onto the passing asteroid. We then were lifted off the sun and were heading home. Once we no longer felt the intense heat, we began to pull ourselves onto the asteroid.

"Did you three really fix the sun?" Muriel asked.

"We did. Though I am surprised that it was a literal lightbulb powering the sun and giving life to the planet." I answered.

"You're kidding Jaune?" Glynda asked.

"No, he's not." Penny defended before showing them a picture of the bulb she took with my scroll. This caused both Glynda and Winter to go wide eyed at this before passing out from surprise.

"How long do you think before we get back home?" Penny asked.

"A few hours maybe. As it took that long to get here." I answered. She nodded and we got ourselves comfy for the ride home.

Three days later

"Who would have though the time share would be on Mars. Nice of the general to send us our house." Muriel said as we sat down on the blanket to enjoy our picnic.

"And nice of him to allow me to come with and give Glynda and Winter proper vacations." Penny added. It was true. Once we got back, we all got our vacations. Glynda and Winter were both sent to a tropical island for two weeks paid. Though, I have a slight feeling the paid part was because Ozpin did not want to feel Glynda wrath for sending her on this trip.

"It sure is." I said agreeing with Penny.

"Birds!" Eustace suddenly shouted getting our attention.

"Oh, my." Muriel said worried.

"Halifax. Wicky, wicky, wicky," Eustace shouted deranged before getting serious. "You thought you got rid of me. I have not begun to-"

"Thanks Penny." I said as Penny used Eustace's own mallet to knock him out.

"You're welcome Jaune." She replied.

'What should we do with him.' Courage asked.

"Only one thing to do. Flush out the alien like we did when he was inside Muriel." I answered. At this, the alien flew out of Eustace's head screaming in fear.

"Well, that solves that. Who's hungry?" Muriel asked getting our attention while we all ignored the groaning Eustace.
