A harrowing incident with a criminal had not only left Granger with a wobbling left leg, but also battling a fever caused by an infection in his back from a wound.
Hetty was offering to take a few days off to help take care of him, but his doctor was offering him a nurse to help. Hetty didn't really like the idea, but Granger insisted that it was just to help him out with things that Hetty couldn't do. Hesitently, she agreed to it.
The nurse started causing trouble right away.
'A hospital bed downstairs?! But I have a perfectly good bed!' Hetty exclaimed.
'Going up and downstairs would be bad for his leg, he must stay downstairs for the time being.' Chloe said, in a bossy tone.
And that wasn't all. Chloe wouldn't let her feed him, or fluff his pillow, or even rub his back wound, and at bedtime, she wouldn't even let Hetty kiss him good night! Under the excuse of 'he needs his rest.'
2 days had passed, and Hetty wanted the nurse gone.
'Look, I'll talk to her. My fever is almost gone, so maybe she'll be nicer.' Granger said, wearily.
'I don't get it Owen. She won't let me take care of you, or even kiss you good night! She's terrible.' Hetty replied.
'I'll handle it. Please go to work and don't worry about me.'
Not willing to leave him alone so easily, Hetty hid a couple of hidden cameras in the bedroom. She checked them a lot in her free time.
'Why won't he stand up to this woman? She's compassionless, doesn't hug him, or offers nice words. Just, why won't he tell her to leave?' Hetty wondered, worried.
When Owen started to go to sleep, she saw him turn his back and start to cry. Hetty felt a knot form in her throat.
'Ohhh. He must be too embarrassed to say no. Sigh. Why aren't I there?! That's it. I'm firing her today and getting someone else to help him while I'm here.' She thought, frustrated.
That night
'I'm the best person to help take care of the patient! You can't fire me!' Chloe shouted.
'I can and I will! I'm his wife, and he needs someone who is not compassionless and legit cares about him!' Hetty shouted back.
'Miss Lange, with your disability, how can you possibly take care of him the proper way?'
'OH?! You think just because he's half my size that I can't take care of him at all?! I'm his wife, damn it! I know how to take care of him! And we're not about to be bossed around by some emotionless bitch who won't even let his wife help him! Now get out!'
After Chloe stormed off, Hetty went to see Owen.
'I'm sorry I didn't stand up to her. It was my idea for a nurse to take some pressure off of you, and I was too embarrassed to admit I was wrong. And I'm sorry you had to put up with her.' Granger said, sadly.
Rubbing his shoulder. 'You're forgiven. I'm glad you're okay.' Hetty replied, tenderly.
'Just out of curiosity, did you leave any cameras lying around?'
'2 in here. I didn't trust her. And no, I wasn't being jealous, I was just being protective.'
(Chuckles). 'The 1 time where your overprotective nature comes in handy.' Granger replied.
'Hey. It's come in handy more times then you think, dear.'
'I know. I know.'
After that, Hetty ditched the hospital bed for a better bed, and hired a better nurse.
For the next 2 weeks, Hetty kept watch over her husband at work with cameras and appreciated his silliness with his occasional nods to the cameras.
And at home, Hetty was back to being his primary caregiver. She fluffed his pillow, comforted him when he was having bad dreams, rubbed his back, and ocassionally sang to him.
'That other nurse tried to sing to me once, and she was beyond terrible!' Granger said.
'I bet!'
'I know I don't say this much, but, you're an amazing wife. And I'm happy that you're here.'
'Ohhhhh!' (Kissing him on the cheek). You're really amazing yourself!' Hetty replied, touched.
