Jaune and Courage the Cowardly Dog

Chap 38: Hot Head

We were in the living room watching an old movie about a vampire named Nosferatu. Muriel was in her chair with Courage on her lap smiling. Me and Yang were on the couch watching the movie and relaxing. Eustace was in his chair reading the paper. It was a few days since Muriel got kidnapped by Growth Industries. And since then, the company went under and was shut down. Eustace also lost his new hair in those few days and learned all the money that he was paid was fake. That sent him crying for the whole day.

"'Bald? We want you!' Ooh!" Eustace suddenly said reading the paper.

"I honestly doubt anything will ever give him back his hair permanently." Yang whispered to me while chuckling a bit.

"'Gone today. Hair tomorrow. Experimental institute.'" Eustace finished reading before putting down his paper smiling. He then took off his hat and started rubbing his shiny bald hat which made a squeaking sound as he did so.

"Eustace. Eustace. Can you please fix this creak in my chair?" Muriel asked referring to the creaking her chair made every time it moved.

"Not now. Going out for a while." Eustace said as he stood up from his chair.

"Then you should take Courage for his haircut. And bring Yang and Jaune along as well." Muriel told him. This caused Eustace to stomp his foot in protest so hard that it shook the house a bit.

Ten Minutes Later

"You look good enough to me." Eustace growled out to Courage who just ignored him and continued to bounce along to the music that was playing from the radio.

"What do you think is different about this hair regrowth place Jaune?" Yang asked.

We were heading to the place Eustace read about that claims to give someone their hair back. And even after warning that it could be a scam, he still decided to go to the place and ignore getting Courage his haircut.

"No clue. But anything could be possible. And I do mean anything." I answered as I laid down on the back of the truck. We decided to sit on the back of the truck to enjoy the warmth of the day. After a couple more minutes, we felt the truck come to a sudden stop. Getting up, we look to the side and saw a building so tall that we could not see the top.

"Damn." Yang said as we got off the truck and tried to see the top of the building but could only saw clouds after a certain distance.

'Experimental institute.' Courage said reading the sign near us. 'This must be the place.'

"Come on." Eustace said as he dragged Courage inside the building with us following.

Getting inside the building, we looked around before finding an elevator. Heading in, we pressed the correct button with the doors closing. The elevator then began going up and after a few minutes, we reached the correct floor. Stepping out of the elevator, we went down the surprisingly long hallway until we reached the correct room. Seeing some chairs next to us, we sat down with Eustace tying Courage's leash to the leg of the chair. Pulling out our scrolls, we passed the time by playing some games. After about half an hour, we finally heard the doors open. Closing our scrolls and putting it away, we turned to it and saw an elderly man come out of the room.

"Thank you. Oh, thank you. And thank you and thanks. Oh, thank you." The man said as he shook the hand of someone else. After letting go, the door slammed closed. Once it was, the man reached into his pocket and took out a small bottle before kissing it and leaving.

"He's acting like he found the fountain of the life with that bottle." Yang said as we watched the man leave.

"BAGGE!" Someone called out from the room that man just came out of.

"That's me. You all stay here. Stupid dog and kids." Eustace demanded as he got up and entered the room.

'Something smells fishy or my name's Slinkenhoffer. And it's not.' Courage said once Eustace closed the door.

"Yeah, something is off about this place." I agreed.

"Either way, how long do you think it will take until he comes back out?" Yang asked already getting bored.

"Not clue. Least we have our scrolls to pass the time." I answered as we took our scrolls back out with Courage deciding to take a nap on my lap.

Half an Hour Later

"I'm heading to the bathroom. I'll be back in a bit. Coming Courage?" I said before asking him.

'What do you think?' Courage asked as he struggled not to pee while taking off his collar.

"I got ya." Yang said as she opened the collar and removed it from his neck.

'Thanks.' Courage said before getting off the chair and dashing to where the bathroom is.

"Be back in a bit." I told Yang as we headed down the hall.

Walking down the hall, we passed by many doors and chairs before eventually getting to the bathroom. Entering it, we saw the man from earlier entering as well. Heading into the stall, we proceeded to do our business. After a moment, we finished and flushed the toilet before exiting the stall. But once we did, we saw the man from earlier take out the bottle and apply whatever was in it to his head. Curious, we began to watch him silently. He placed the bottle on the sink and washed his hands. Finished, he then tried to take out some paper from the dispenser to dry his hands but couldn't get any. He then started to get angry. So angry that his head became red with blood lines appearing in his head. His teeth also started to grind a bit. But with each passing second, he got angry and angry with the whole place starting to shake. Closing the stall door just in case, I got ready for whatever was about to happen with Courage even going into the toilet to hide. After a few more seconds, we heard a massive explosion happen. Daring a peek, we looked outside and saw a massive hole in the wall where the paper towel dispenser was.

"Oh, my." The man said when he realized what he caused. He then ran out of the bathroom in panic.

'Hey, here's the bottle.' Courage said as he picked up the bottle the man had.

"Let me see that." I said as I grabbed the bottle and began to examine it. Turning it around we saw a waning on the bottle. "Warning, when using, do not get angry, do not get mad, do not get upset."

'Or else.' Courage finished.

"WHO WOULD MAKE THAT A SIDE EFFECT!" I shouted in shock and fear when I remembered that Eustace was getting the same bottle.

"Jaune! Courage!" Yangs voice was heard outside the bathroom. Quickly exiting the stall, and washing our hands, we exited the bathroom to see Yang worried. "What happened? I heard a loud explosion and came rushing."

"Remember when you asked earlier about what was this different with this program to help people regain their hair?" I asked her. She seemed confused but nodded. Reaching into my pocket, I gave her the bottle the man had. She read it with her eyes going wide a moment later.

"You're kidding right?" She asked.

"I wish." I answered as I opened the bathroom door to show her the wall that got exploded.

"And Eustace is getting the same thing." Yang said after a moment.

'We have to warn him.' Courage said worried before running down the hallway. We looked at each other for a moment before running after him. A few moments later, we returned to the door which Eustace entered. Getting there, we saw Eustace holding the bottle while shaking a gloved hand of someone.

"AH! Thanks." Eustace said as the door closed. He then kissed the bottle like the man from before did. When he saw us running towards him, he growled in anger.

"Eustace. Throw that bottle away." I told him.

"It will kill you." Yang added while Courage transformed into the guy from earlier and repeated what happened in the bathroom.

"How'd you get off your leash? Did you two let him go?" Eustace asked ignoring what we just said.

'ARRGG!' Courage said frustrated before grabbing his leash and placing it back on himself and tried to warn him again.

"Come on stupid dog and stupid kids." Eustace growled as he grabbed Courage's leash and dragged him out.

'But-but! This is not good.' Courage said as he tried to pull against the leash and not get choked.

Seeing that he was not going to listen, we decided to follow him and try to make sure he doesn't get mad, angry or upset. Getting to the elevator, we headed back down to the ground floor. Stepping out, we headed to the truck and got into the back. Eustace started up the truck and we were off to the house. But we never kept our eyes of Eustace as we were afraid if he would apply whatever was in the bottle to his head. It said to not get angry or mad and Eustace is always angry or mad. When we were about half way home, we got scared when we saw Eustace apply it to his bald head.

'Crap.' I thought worried as he started rubbing it into his head.

"Ah, none of you won't recognize me with hair." Eustace taunted with a jackass smirk.

"I doubt that. And I also doubt that it would be as luscious or magnificent as mine." Yang countered smirking when she saw Eustace seemed shocked by what she saw.

"You little-" He began but I cut him off.

"WATCH OUT! BREAK!" I shouted to him. He quickly turned around and braked just in time before we hit the upcoming intersection where someone stopped in the dead center.

"That was close." Yang said as she caught her breath.

"Watch where you're goin', ya fool!" Di Lung shouted at us as he raised his closed fist at us. But grunted in pain when Yang fired a round from her gauntlets at him. He glowered before speeding off in the direction we just came from.

"Even after losing against Courage, he is still an asshole." Yang said through gritted teeth.

"Once an asshole, always an asshole." I told her.

"You got that right. You think-" Yang started but stopped when we heard Eustace growling increase. Turning around, we saw Eustace's head go red in anger with veins appearing on his head as well.

"Get down." I told Yang as I pushed her down before reaching and grabbing Courage and pulling him towards us to have cover. After a moment, we heard an explosion come from behind us. Getting up and turning around, we saw that Di Lung's car had exploded and he was now sent flying through the air before disappearing.

"So, when someone gets angry who used that product, whoever or whatever caused the person to get angry explodes." Yang surmised.

"Seems like it. And seeing as how Eustace gets angry so easily and lets just about anything set him off, everything and everyone is in danger when he sues the product." I added as we looked towards a panting Eustace who was struggling to catch his breath.

'INCLUDING MURIEL!' Courage shouted in realization.

'CRAP.' I thought as I knew how often Eustace gets irritated at Muriel which meant she was in grave danger. Feeling the truck start up again, I began to think of a plan to keep Eustace calm.

Half an hour later

Arriving at the house took a little longer as to our surprise, Eustace actually took Courage to get his haircut. Something that Yang and I learned that Courage despised. After that, we headed back home. Getting there, we got out of the truck and walked up to the house. Opening the door, we saw Muriel rocking in her chair that was still making that creaking sound. Heading in, Yang and I went and sat down on the couch while Eustace sat in his chair. Courage went and laid down on the pillow that was next to Muriel.

"Oh, Courage, what a lovely haircut." Muriel said smiling at Courage.

"Ya know jaune, I think it's about time you get a haircut as well." Yang said teasingly while ruffling my hair. Chuckling, I smacked her hand away to which she responded by punching me lightly. But the light mood was ruined when we heard Eustace use more of the product.

'Oh no. Not more.' Courage said worried. Turing to Eustace, we saw him rub what he put into his scalp.

"We have to get that bottle away from him." I whispered to Courage and Yang. They nodded in agreement. But before we could do anything else, Muriel spoke up.

"Eustace, can't you fix this dreadful squeak?" Muriel asked unaware of the danger she was in.

'OH!' Courage said worried as Eustace continued to rub his head.

"Eustace." Muril said a bit more loudly to get his attention.

"Yeah. All right." Eustace said as he took out a hammer and approached Muriel's chair before hitting the legs of the chair with the hammer. But with each swing of the hammer, I got more and more worried for Muriel.

'Got to get mom out of here.' I thought as I began to look around for something to get her away from Eustace.

Luckily, it seems Courage was already on it as he came with his bowl before making gestures to show that he was hungry. Muriel took the bowl from him and went into the kitchen. But as soon as she did, Eustace started to get angry like he did with Di Lung and everything in the house started to shake. Soon, the phone began to rang. Eustace turned to the phone which exploded soon after. And once it did, everything calmed down. Eustace then moved to his chair and pulled out a mirror and began to check to see if any hair had grown yet.

"AH!" He growled when he found none.

"EUSTACE." Muriel called out from the kitchen. He frowned and got up and went to the kitchen. Worried we followed him and saw Muriel struggling to open a can of dog food.

"Can one of you open this darn can for me?" Muriel asked.

"I'll do so." I said as grabbed the can. But before I could open it, Eustace snatched it from me and tried to open it himself. But quickly found that he couldn't open it easily. Getting angry, he tried different ways of opening it but each failed and got him only angrier. Soon the entire room followed by house started to shake. Yet Muriel seemed to not notice it as she cleaned some dishes.

"I'll get it." Muriel said when the doorbell suddenly rang. Glad that she would no longer be in the room, I followed her to the front of the house away from Eustace. Opening the door, we saw Yang and Courage standing there.

"Got the mail Muriel." Yang said as she and Courage handed her some mail.

"Thank you, dearies." Muriel said as she grabbed the mail. But as she grabbed the mail, a loud explosion was heard from the kitchen forcing us to duck and cover our heads. All the while Muriel seemed unaware of it.

"Seems like Eustace exploded in anger again." Yang said as we stood back up and saw some rubble from the kitchen near us. Curious, we all went to the kitchen and saw that it was completely destroyed. Nothing was left except for a few cabinets, the fridge, Courage's food and dog bowl. And in the center was a pissed off Eustace. Growling, he grabbed the dog food and exited the kitchen. Moving to the side, he went up to Muriel and handed her the dog food.

"Here." He said bitterly as he went to his chair and sat down.

"Thank you, Eustace." Muriel said smiling. Unaware of what just happened.

"That's a lot." yang said worried when we saw Eustace added nearly twice as much as he did previously. Hearing some creaking, we saw Muriel rocking back and forth in her chair with a cloth and thread n her hands.

"Eustace." She called out while glaring at her chair.

'Stay calm. Stay calm.' Courage said as he began to rub Eustace's feet.

"Yang. I need a favor." I told her pulling her to the side.

"Let me guess. Knock out Eustace?" She asked glaring at him as he ignored Muriel calling out to him.

"As much as I want you to do it, I need you for something more important. In case things go south, I want you to get Muriel to safety as we try to get Eustace's anger onto someone or something else. Can you do that?" I asked her.

"You can count on me." Yang answered smirking. I sighed in relief as I went over to Eustace and began to massage his shoulder to try and keep him calm while Courage played a giant harp. Yang had gone to Muriel's side and got ready to do as I asked of her.

"Well, if you can't fix my chair. Can you at least thread my needle?" Muriel asked as she handed him a needle with thread.

'Crap.' I thought as I knew how frustrating that can be.

"Yeah, fine." Eustace said as he took the needle and thread and tried to thread it.

But missed each time he attempted it. After a few more tries and fails, he grew increasingly frustrated. Seeing as he was distracted, Courage snuck to his side and tried to take the bottle away from him. But without looking, Eustace grabbed the bottle as soon as Courage did and poured some more of the product onto his head with Courage still holding onto it. Setting it back down, Eustace rubbed his head while Courage let go off the bottle and wobbled around dizzy. To the side, I saw Yang try to distract Muriel by asking Muriel to teach her to sew. Hearing muttering, I turned back and saw Eustace getting increasingly frustrated with each failed attempt to thread the needle. Soon the house started to shake.

"Oh, it's getting a bit windy in here." Muriel said when she noticed the rumbling. Turning back to Eustace, I saw that veins started to appear on his now red face.

"Time to go." I said as I moved to Muriel and was about to get her to evacuate the house. But Courage had picked up her chair to carry her. We then all made our way to the door but found it blocked by the grandfather clock that tipped over.

"I got it." Yang said as she prepared to punch the door down. But stopped when the house stopped shaking and we heard a 'boing' sound.

"Oh." Eustace said shocked. Turning back to him, we saw that he now had a single spiral of red hair on his head. He pulled out a mirror and became happy at what he saw. But then got really angry when the hair fell down with the house shaking even more violently than before.

'AAHHH!' Courage screamed in terror,

"MOVE!" Yang shouted as she punched the door down and easily moved the grandfather clock away.

"HURRY!" I shouted as we ran as fast as we could away from the house. After a few seconds, we were sent flying further when the house exploded.

"Is everyone okay?" Yang asked as we stood up.

"Yeah, fine." I answered as I dusted myself off with Courage shaking the dust off himself. Looking around, we saw Muriel continuing to sew unaware of everything.

Half an Hour Later

Getting ack to the house, we saw that everything but the couch was destroyed. Luckily, in a day or so everything will be either back or replaced. Sitting down on the couch, we relaxed and calmed ourselves down from what just happened. But it was a bit hard as the creaking from Muriel's chair was getting on our nerves a bit.

"Everyone, remind me to tell Eustace, whenever that man gets back, to fix this chair." Muriel asked of us.

"We will." We answered at the same time.

"How long do you think it will take before he gets back Jaune?" Yang asked.

"A few days or so." I answered. It became quiet for a few moments until Yang spoke again.

"At least I was right." She said smiling.

"About what Yang?" I asked confused.

"That his hair could not possibly compare to mine." She answered with a smirk. I chuckled a bit as I did agree with that.
