Jaune and Courage the Cowardly Dog
Chap 53: The Curse of Shirley
"Oh, Eustace. Aren't you excited about your birthday party?" Muriel asked as she made some paper hats.
"How old is he going to be Jaune?" Ruby asked as she made some paper hats as well.
"Not sure." I answered as I helped Courage blow up some balloons.
"Like this Courage." Qrow said as he showed Courage how to do it. Courage nodded before doing so. But forgetting to let go after the balloon filled up with air.
"Ain't going to be no party." Eustace argued as he popped the balloon with a needle. The remains of it being on Courage's face. Sighing, I began to take off the pieces when we heard a knock on the door.
"Expecting someone Jaune?" Yang asked looking at the door.
"A visitor." Muriel said happily as she got up and went over to the door. Concerned and curious, Courage and I got up and headed over as well. Opening the door, we were slightly confused when we didn't immediately see someone. "Yes?"
"Any small change to help a poor soul?" A familiar voice asked. Looking down, we saw someone we didn't see in a while. "Hello Jaune and Courage."
"Hey Shirley." I greeted back with a smile as Courage gave a small wave.
"Oh, of course." Muriel said as she pulled out her giant purse and began to dig around. "Just a moment."
"Who is it Jaune?" Yang asked as she and Ruby walked up to us.
"You look familiar." Ruby said scratching her head.
"I helped you and the snow girl get along." Shirley explained.
"Oh, that's right. I totally forgot about that." Ruby said smacking her head.
"So, this chihuahua is the reason for you and Weiss-cream getting along?" Yang asked confused.
"Don't you listen to anything your uncle tells you?" Shirley asked annoyed.
"I would hope." Qrow suddenly said appearing behind Yang. Scaring and making her jump in shock.
"Oh, here's a little something dear." Muriel said handing Shirley a large bag of coins.
"I have a couple hundred bucks." I said as I took out two hundred dollars and handed it to her. Some might say I was being foolish for doing that but she helped me and Courage save Muriel on multiple occasions. It was the least I can do. "Anything Courage?"
'I know.' Courage answered before taking out some pliers. He then opened his mouth and used the pliers to take out his gold tooth and give it to Shirley.
"I didn't know Courage had a gold tooth." Yang said surprised.
"Neither did I." I said surprised as I watched Courage lick the spout in his mouth where his tooth was.
"And you must be hungry. I just baked it this morning." Muriel said as she somehow pulled out an intact pie from her person that she stored there for some reason. She then pulled out tea set and gave it to her. "Oh, and that would go lovely with a cup of tea."
"Why do you have a pie and tea set in there Muriel?" Qrow asked. Muriel simply smiled at him in answered.
"What about you three? Have anything?" Shirley asked.
"No. Sorry." Yang and Ruby said while Qrow shook his head and gave Shirley a few spare bucks.
"It's alright. Least your honest. Thank you for your kindness." Shirley said before looking at Qrow. "You want to ask something don't you."
"Are you the one who put the barrier to ward off the grimm from coming here?" He asked.
"Yes." She answered quick.
"Can you do it for the other kingdoms?" Yang asked.
"No." Shirley answered curtly.
"Why not? It could help so many people." Ruby asked.
"My ward only repels them. Doesn't stop them from getting in," She answered.
"What does that mean?" Yang asked confused.
"Ask you uncle." She told us. Looking to Qrow, we saw him rubbing his temples in annoyance.
"Uncle Qrow?" Ruby asked worried.
"Figures." Qrow said shaking his head.
"What does she mean Qrow?" Yang asked confused. At this, Qrow growled slightly.
"Her ward only makes nearby wandering grimm leave the area. Doesn't actually prevent them from getting in." He answered.
"I still don't get it." Ruby said scratching her head.
"What it means is that while the ward makes the grimm go away, it doesn't stop them from entering. Meaning, in a blood lust or driven by instincts, they can pass through the ward. Not to mention, people like Ozpin and Ironwoods can have others bring grimm to here with the ward doing nothing to stop them." He fully explained now fully annoyed
"Oh. So, while it might drive them away, it doesn't actually stop them from entering or from someone bringing them in." Yang surmised realizing what Shirley meant.
"Took you long enough to get it." Shirley said also annoyed yet smiling a bit. "Now, before I go, I must ask this. What about the bald one?"
"You mean Eusatce?" I asked to which she nodded.
"Yes. Eustace. You must have something to give." Muriel called out to him. He growled slightly before getting up and walking towards us.
"Yeah. I got something to give. THE BOOT!" He said slamming the door.
"OW!" I shouted in pain as the door slammed on my hands that I put out to prevent the door from hitting Shirley. "Damn it."
"Ha, ha, ha." Eustace laughed as he walked back to his chair.
"Are you okay Jaune?" Yang asked. Her eyes red and glaring at Eustace.
"Eustace!" Muriel scolded.
"Fine. Just stings a bit." I answered as Courage took out a napkin and gave it to Shirley. Looking up we saw that while she was okay, the pie we gave her landed in her face. The tea set and money we gave her still intact luckily.
"Thanks." Shirley said as she wiped the pie of her face.
"I hate my semblance but I do wish I could give it to him." Qrow muttered under her breath while glaring at Eustace. We were about to ask him what he meant but stopped when we heard a Saxaphone being played. Turning around we saw that it was Shirley playing one.
'This can be either good or really bad.' I thought worried. The time when she summoned a giant monster with that instrument still in my mind.
"What are you doing?" Qrow asked confused and concerned.
"Upon your shiny head, a curse... Long as your soul lives in your purse. And with your coins you cannot part... Your sky shall be dark as your heart." Shriley said ominously.
"Goobledygook. Ain't no such things as curses." Eustace shouted from his chair.
"Um what was that about?" Ruby asked. Shirley merely pointed back at Eustace.
'OOHHH!' Courage screamed when we saw a cloud form above Eustace and began to rain heavily.
"So, you place a curse on him." Ruby said nervous.
"Are you able to do that on anyone you want?" Yang asked nervous. Though not for the same reason as Ruby. As evident by her hands on her hair.
"Yes. But I only do so on those who deserve it. Like him." Shirley answered.
"Are you also able to take away curses?" Qrow asked curious while also sounding hopeful.
"Yes. But only if the person learns their lesson which rarely happens." She answered.
"Do you think you can-" Qrow began but Shirley cut him off.
"Change your semblance." She finished.
"Yes. Could you?" Qrow asked. At this, Shirley sighed before answering.
"Listen. While I cannot remove your accursed luck for it is part of your soul." She began before stopping and pulling out an amulet. "But I can make you control it."
"Really?" Qrow asked hopeful and surprised.
"Just wear this for the next week and you will have full control over your semblance. And can make it affect people you want rather than it affecting everyone around you." Shirley answered.
"That's it?" I asked surprised.
"Well. You do have to fill it up with a drop of blood each day to make it work. And if you forget it one day, it will reset and you must wear the amulet for an additional week." She answered.
"Thank you. What can I do to repay you?" Qrow asked as she handed him the amulet.
"Burn his hat when you get a good chance." She answered smiling.
"Consider it done." Qrow said not fully understanding what he agreed to. He then immediately pricked his finger and put some blood in the amulet before putting it on.
"Now. I shall take my leave. Thank you for the rest of your gifts." Shirley said before leaving.
"Well, that was something." I said as I closed the door.
"It's quite late. How about we all head to bed so we can get up early and start preparing for Eustace Birthday tomorrow." Muriel said as she headed up the stairs. "Good night, all."
"Good night." We told her before doing the same and heading to our rooms.
Morning
"This is fun." Ruby said as she and Courage made stars out of the cookie dough. We were making cookies for Eustace's birthday party.
"Remember Rubes. We still have to bake them before we could eat them. And they are for the party later." Yang said with a chuckle as she had to stop the young reaper from eating raw cookie dough again.
'She really loves cookies.' Courage said smiling as he cut some more cookie dough into stars.
"It's her favorite food. She goes crazy for them." I explained before chuckling a bit when Ruby blew a raspberry at me. Smiling, I went back to kneading some dough.
"How's the amulet working so far uncle Qrow?" Yang asked as she took out a freshly baked sheet full of cookies from the oven.
"So far, fine. But I am still usure if it really is doing as that lady proclaimed." He answered while looking at the amulet with hopeful eyes. Hearing some footsteps, we looked up and saw Eustace walking towards us with a raincoat on.
"Eustace, where are you going?" Muriel asked as she stopped rolling out some more dough for the cookies.
"To the picture show." He answered.
"Picture show?" Ruby asked confused.
"The movies." I explained.
"Eustace! The Curse!" Muriel reminded him.
"There ain't no curse." Eustace said irritated. As if to spite him, the cloud let out a thunder strike and began to pour even more.
"Why don't you stay and help with the party?" Muriel suggested.
"I ain't helping with no party. Cause there ain't going to be no party." Eustace bitterly answered. The storm increased in intensity even more so which forced Eustace to put up the hood of his coat. He then walked out the door to his truck.
"Oh, my." Muriel said worried. "I'm worried for him. Who knows what the curse could entail?"
"Would you like us to follow him to make sure he is okay?" I asked.
"If you would be so kind Jaune. I would hate for anything to happen to him. Especially since it's his birthday." She answered.
"Okay Muriel. I'll go and make sure he is okay. Coming Courage?" I asked as I moved to the sink to wash my hands.
'Sure. But I won't like it.' He answered as she got down from the chair and shook off the powder from himself.
"Mind if I tag along? Need to make sure I repay that lady and do what she says to Eustace." He asked.
"Alright. We'll be back later." I said as we exited the house and began to follow Eustace to the picture show.
Picture Show
"Been a while since I saw a good black and white movie." Qrow said as we entered the picture show room where Eustace was.
We were currently in the picture in the back seat watching Eustace. So far, aside from annoying a few people, nothing bad has come to others. The lightning and thunder did scare others a few times. But it seems that was about to change.
"Do you mind removing your cloud?" An old lady sitting behind Eustace asked. But instead of answering, Eustace grumbled before opening up an umbrella. The rain bouncing off it and hitting the lady and man behind him.
"The maybe you could move over a seat so we could see the screen." The man with a large orange beard suggested.
"MAKE ME!" Eustace challenged.
"I have always loathed Ozpin and Ironwoods for their approach in handling things. But I would gladly take them over having to deal with Eustace." Qrow seethed.
"He really does have a way of getting under someone's skin." I said agreeing. Courage nodded in agreement as well.
"He's getting my popcorn soggy." The lady said upset.
"I'm complaining to the manager." The man said angry. He got up and left the room. Coming back with the manager a second later.
"HEY! PUT ME DOWN!" Eusatce demanded when the manager easily picked him up and carried him out the room.
"Let's go." I said as we began to follow them. We exited the room and made our way to the front of the theater where the manager carried Eustace.
"AAAHHHHH!" Eustace screamed when the manager kicked him through the doors and out of the theater with him landing in the trash can nearby.
"Definitely deserves that." Qrow said as we exited the theater as well.
Sneaking around, we waited for Eustace to get out of the trash can. Which he did after about ten minutes. He growled out before cursing at the manager and theater. Pulling his coat closer, he began to walk away from the place. We carefully and quietly followed him. After a few minutes, he stopped at the corner of the block. Next to him was an elderly lady the seemed scared to cross the street as the cars seemed to be going at extremely fast speeds. And each time she set foot on the street; another car immediately raced by her.
"Excuse me sir. But would you please help me across the street?" The lady asked when she spotted Eustace.
"You got legs don't ya? Help yourself." Eustace yelled at her before crossing the street. The cloud above him roaring in anger at what he just did.
"Oh, how will I cross now?" The lady asked now extremely worried.
"We can help you." I said walking up to her.
"Oh, thank young man." She said smiling.
"Be careful." I said as I grabbed her hand. Courage and Qrow went into the street to halt the traffic as I helped the lady cross the street. Once across, Qrow and Courage quickly made their way to us as well.
"Thank you so much everyone. You all are so kind." The lady said smiling before leaving.
'Now where did Eustace go?' Courage asked as we began to look around.
"Over there." Qrow said pointing to our left.
Looking over there, we saw a brief sight of the cloud that now belonged to Eusatce. Seeing that we were about to lose him, we ran after him. But stopped when we saw a man with a green alien like hand struggling not to get pulled into an alleyway. Eustace also stopped when the man got his attention.
"MISTER! MISTER! PLEASE! Could you please send this to my fiancé?" The man asked as he gave Eustace a letter with a heart stamp on it. "Tell her I'm sorry but I'll have to miss our wedding. Please just buy a stamp for it. Ah. Tell her I love her..."
"I ain't buying any stamps." Eustace shouted as he crumpled the letter before tossing it back to the man. The cloud became more intense that the wind was causing Eustace trouble to stay upright. He then walked away.
"We have to help that man." I said as we raced into the alleyway. And to our surprise, it was the same alien from a few days ago. The same one that Courage scared off.
"Help me!" The man begged when he spotted us. Qrow took out his weapon and managed to get the man away from the alien. The alien growled in anger and then took out a few guns and aimed it at us.
'AAHHHH!' Courage screamed in fear. This time, his heart and tongue coming out of his body. Along with a cowboy on a horse that fired two guns before returning inside.
"EEEEE!" The alien screeched remembering Courage. It then took out a device and pressed a button on it. A bright light came from above and enveloped the alien and a second later it disappeared.
"Are you okay Floyd?" I asked now remembering his name.
"Oh, thank you all. Now if you'll excuse me. I must hurry up so I can make it to my wedding in time." Floyd said smiling before running off.
"Okay. Now we need to find Eustace." Qrow said as we exited the alleyway.
But as we exited, we saw Eustace driving by with his truck. The cloud raining on him forcing him to use his windshield wipers. Looking up to the sky, I saw that it was already getting dark. Taking out my scroll, I was surprised to see the time.
"We best be heading back. It's already pretty late and will be even later when we get back." I told them. They seemed surprised at this and were a little shocked when I shocked them the time.
'Wow. Time flies.' Courage said surprised.
Nodding in agreement, we began to make our way back home. After about a half hour, we finally made it home. Getting inside, we saw the house decorated completely in decorations for the party tomorrow. Ruby and Yang were fast asleep on the couch. Tired from all the preparations they helped Muriel do. Qrow smiled before heading over and tucking them in with the blanket that was next to them. He then sat in the chair next to them and went to sleep. Turning to Courage, we smiled at the warm scene before heading up to my room where Muriel was in front waiting for us.
"Oh, you both are back." Muriel said smiling when she saw us.
"How did preparing for Eustace's birthday go?" I asked.
"Good. Good. Your two friends helped me a lot. We managed to finish everything in a simple afternoon." She answered happily. She then grew concerned. "Did anything happen to Eustace?"
"Aside from not wanting to help two people and ruing a movie for others, he is fine. And still doesn't believe in the curse." I answered with Courage nodding to back me up.
"That man is stubborn old goat. Well. It's awful late. Better get to sleep Jaune. See you in the morning." Muriel said before getting up from her chair and heading into her room.
'Night Jaune.' Courage said before following Muriel.
"Night Courage," I replied before heading into my room.
Two Hours Later
*Knock Knock*
"Who is it?" I groggily asked as I woke up from my sleep.
'Me Jaune.' Courage answered. Rubbing my eyes, I got out of bed, put some long pajamas on before heading over to open the door.
"Hey Courage. Need something?" I asked noticing that it was still the dead of night.
'Muriel asked me to give this blanket to Eustace. Mind helping me?' He asked.
"Sure. But isn't he in the bed?" I asked confused.
'Muriel forced him to the roof when the bed got soggy because of his curse. And rather than admit to the curse, he growled before heading up.' He explained.
"Figures. Well, let's give this to him." I said as I took the blanket from him and made our way to the roof. Getting there, we saw him wrestling with the television antenna.
"GET OFF MY ROOF! I DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE!" He shouted. But as he did, I noticed something off about him.
"Where are his glasses?" I asked looking around. Spotting them nearby, I went over to pick them up. But as I did, Eustace finally noticed us.
"HUH?" He asked surprised looking over at Courage who was now holding the blanket. He then growled. "NO SOLICITORS!"
'AAAHHHHH!' Courage screamed as Eustace charged at him. But stopped when I managed to place his glasses back on him.
"What's huh? My glasses." Eustace said happy. But that quickly went away when he spotted us. "Argh! What do you both want?"
"To give you this blanket." I answered quickly. Already annoyed with him.
"Thanks. Now leave me alone." He said before roughly grabbing the blanket and moving to the other side of the roof.
"You okay Courage?" I asked turning to him.
'Fine. Thanks for the save.' He answered smiling.
"Let's head back in now. It's getting a bit chilly." I told him. He nodded and we went back inside the house. But as we made it back to my room, we heard the sound of the television coming from Muriel's room. Confused, we made our way over.
'Muriel?' Courage asked as we opened the door to reveal Muriel watching the television. Specifically, the one from downstairs.
"Is everything okay?" I asked stepping in.
"Fine dears. I just couldn't really sleep. Knowing that Eustace was on the roof and all." She answered while looking to the roof. The sound of the storm still raging.
"Would you like some tea to help you sleep?" I asked.
"That would be swell. Thank you." She answered. Nodding, we went down to prepare her some chamomile tea. After a few minutes, it was done and we headed back to the room.
"Here you go Muriel." I said as I gave her the tea.
"Thank you Jaune. Now you best get to sleep. We have a big day tomorrow." She said smiling while Courage jumped onto Eustace's side of the bed which was now dry.
"Right. Good night." I said as I exited the room and headed to mine. Getting in bed, I quickly fell asleep. Though, in the ack of my mind, I wondered exactly who did Muriel invite over for Eustace's birthday.
Next Day Two P.M.
"Good to see ya." Ma Bagge said waving her arm.
It was noon the next day and all the gests had arrived. And by that, I mean only two other people were invited that actually showed up. And they were Dr. Vindaloo and Ma Bagge. The 'party' was in full swing and I have to say, Courage and I were impressed with what Muriel, Yang and Ruby managed to accomplish while we were gone. It was simply amazing.
"Easy on the snacks Ruby. Leave some for the rest of us." Yang said chuckling as the little reaper had already eaten about a dozen cookies.
'Care for one Ma Bagge?' Courage asked as showed her the plate full of hors d'oeuvres. She took one and ate it. Only to spit it out a moment later.
"YUCK!" Ma Bagge shouted disgusted before taking a sip of her drink.
"I see that being an ass runs in the family." Qrow said glaring at Ma Bagge. And who could blame him. They both are horrible people. "Though, who is the doctor."
"That's Doctor Vindaloo. Or primary doctor." I answered.
"Is he any good?" He asked curious.
"That... is highly debatable." I answered hesitantly. As while he could treat basic sickness, anything else is not something you want him to take a look at.
"Rain or no rain. That man should really come to his own birthday party." Muriel said upset.
"Want us to go get him Muriel?" Yang asked.
"Don't worry dear. I got it." She answered before opening the door of the heater. "EUSTACE! GET DONW THIS INSTANT!"
"We can go out and get him Muriel. It would be no problem." I told her. However, instead of answering, she continued to shout into the heater.
"EUSTACE, DID YOU HEAR ME?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP THERE? YOUR GUESTS ARE WAITING!" Muriel shouted again.
"We should probably go and get him before he slips and falls from the roof due to his curse probably making the roof slippery." Qrow suggested.
"Right. let's go get him." I said as we headed to the door. But as we got close, we heard what sound like loud banging coming from the heater.
"What's that sound?" Ruby asked curious. Her answer came in the form of Eustace emerging from the heater covered head to toe in soot and ash.
"AAAHHHH!" He screamed while waving something that was in his hand.
"AAAAHHHHH!" Dr. Vindaloo and Ma Bagge screamed before running away.
"What's happening?" Ruby asked. Looking towards her, we saw that Yang had quickly covered her eyes. We were slightly confused by this but realized why when we noticed that despite the soot covering Eustace, he was only in his boxers.
"Nope. Nope. Nope." Yang repeated as she continued to cover Ruby's eyes.
"Oh, my. Now see what you have gone and done Eustace! You've scared off your guests." Muriel scolded.
"Huh?" Eustace asked confused before turning to us.
"PUT ON SOME CLOTHES!" Yang shouted at him.
"You're leaving a ring on the floor. Here stand on this coaster." Muriel scolded while grabbing a coaster from somewhere.
"YOU CAN'T FOOL ME!" Eustace shouted turning to Muriel.
"Um, come again?" I asked confused.
"OOH! YOU'RE NOT MURIEL!" Eustace exclaimed confused.
"What are you saying man? I am Muriel." She said equally confused. Eustace than grabbed Muriel and pinned her to the ground.
"1, 2, 3. I win." Eustace mocked as he kept Muriel pinned to the floor.
'AAHHHH!' Courage screamed in shock. Though, towards the end of his scream, it started to sound like that of a horn before sounding like ahorse.
"GET OFF HER!" I shouted as I tried to grab Eustace and force him off. But the combination of soot, ash and water made my grip slippery. Which he used to push me away from him. Qrow tried to intervene and get Eustace off but he was surprisingly quick and went back to the roof through the heater.
"Damn it." Qrow muttered as he tried not to slip after standing on the spot where Eustace just was.
"What happened? Where's Muriel and why is there a giant puddle on the floor?" Ruby asked confused when yang removed her hands from her eyes.
"Eustace went nuts and essentially kidnapped Muriel to the roof." Yang answered.
"Why would he do that?" Ruby asked shocked.
"A better question would be why did he say Muriel wasn't Muriel." Qrow said recalling how Eustace didn't seem to recognize her.
"Well. Whatever it is, I think this curse has gone on long enough. And I am only saying that because it is endangering Muriel." I told them.
"Then how do we get rid of it?" Yang asked.
'Maybe Shirley could get rid of it.' Courage suggested.
"Maybe. But I think she would want something in return." I said agreeing.
"Um, Jaune. Care to fill us in." Yang said reminding me they don't understand Courage.
"He said that maybe Shirley could undo the curse." I translated.
"Do you even know where she is?" Qrow asked.
"Exactly no. But we do know how she usually travels." I answered.
"Well then. Let's go. The quicker we get to her, the quicker we can free Muriel." Ruby said before using her semblance to race out of the house. We all just chuckled at her before following her.
Four Hours Later
"Finally." Yang exclaimed tired. It took roughly four hours to find Shirley. But we managed to do so.
"That took forever." Ruby complained falling to the floor from exhaustion.
'Help, help, help.' Courage said to Shirley bouncing up and down.
"The stupid one. He's stupid right?" She asked.
"That's a severe understatement." I said agreeing.
'Uh-huh.' Courage said also agreeing.
"Listen Shirley. We need you to take the curse away from him." I told her.
"There is nothing I can do." She told us while shaking her head,
"Damn it." I said disappointed.
"However, it can be removed still." She continued getting our attention.
"How?" Qrow asked.
"The farmer has to remove the curse by finding generosity within his heart. And he can only do that by seeing himself the way he really is." She answered.
"OH, COME ON!" Yang shouted in disbelief.
"Yeah. That's going to be extremely difficult." I said already knowing that is going to be next to impossible.
"But I feel sorry for all of you. For a few pieces of silver, I can sell you this mirror. All you have to do is hold it up to the stupid one." She told us while pulling out a large mirror.
"That's it?" Ruby asked surprised.
"Not everything has to be elaborate." Shirley countered annoyed.
"Here." I interjected while pulling out a bag full of silver along with Courage.
"Thanks for your business." Shirley said smiling before turning to Qrow. "How is the amulet working?"
"Fine, I guess. Haven't experienced any misfortune yet. Though, I haven't tried to use it against anyone yet." He answered.
"That will be at the end of the week. Just keep doing what I told you and it will work." Shirley reminded him.
"Right. Again, thank you." Qrow said smiling while looking at the amulet.
"Just remember our deal and we are good." Shirley said smiling.
'Sorry to interrupt. But we still need to save Muriel.' Courage reminded us impatiently
"Right. Let's go. Thanks again Shirley." I told her as we raced back to the house.
One hour Later
"Least the trip back was quicker." Yang said panting.
"Now we need to get Eustace to see the mirror." Qrow said as we reached the house.
"But first, we need to find him." I told them. At this, we heard Muriel scream.
"EUSTACE! WHERE ARE YOUR MARBLES?!" Muriel shouted.
"On the roof. Hurry." Ruby said pointing to the roof. Looking to the side, we saw a ladder we could use to climb to the roof. Heading over, we quickly made our way to the roof and saw Eustace sitting on Muriel. But what was slightly worrying was the fact that Eustace had mushrooms growing on his body.
"How does that happen?" I asked confused at seeing the numerous mushrooms growing on him.
"We can figure that out later." Qrow said as he helped Yang and Ruby up on the roof. We then moved closer to them with the mirror out. But due to the roof being slippery, we broke the mirror as soon as we neared them.
"Great. Now what?" Yang asked annoyed.
"Huh? What's that? Who's that?" Eustace asked confused. At that moment, I saw that he did not have his glasses again.
"Quick. Find his glasses. They must be on the roof or on the ground." I told the others. They nodded and began to look around for them.
"Uh, who are you boys?" Eustace asked.
'Huh?' Courage asked confused. It took a second but I knew what was happening and we could use that to our advantage.
"Play along." I whispered to Courage before turning to Eustace. "It's so hot. Our heads are burning."
'Uh-huh.' Courage agreed quickly catching on.
"Where's your hats?" Eustace asked sounding sad and distraught. Which is something we didn't think he was capable of feeling.
"We don't have one." I answered.
"No hat. Now that's not right. Little boys should have a hat. Every boy should have a hat." Eustace said upset. He then took his hat of and gave it to us. "Here. You both can share mine."
"Thank you." I said slightly uncomfortable as I never thought I would say that to Eustace. After a moment, the storm disappeared from Eustace's head.
"Oh, my. Courage. Jaune. You both did the impossible. You both got Eustace to give of himself." Muriel said surprised.
"FOUND IT!" Ruby shouted. Looking over, we saw that she was holding Eustace's glasses.
"Bring it here." I told her. She ran over and gave me the glasses which I put on Eustace. Yang and Qrow arriving a second later.
"Hey. My glasses. I can see! ACHOOO!" Eustace said before suddenly sneezing.
"Looks like the cloud left him a little gift." Yang said smirking.
"Well, let's get him inside and all patched up then." Muriel said as Qrow helped her up. We all nodded before helping Muriel and a now sick Eustace back into the house.
Next Day
"ACHOO!" Eustace sneezed again.
We were in the master bedroom. Eustace was in the bed sick with an ice bag on his head. Muriel put in a thermometer into Eustace's mouth which caused him to growl.
"Here's the soup." Ruby shouted as she came in followed by Qrow and Yang.
"And tea." Yang added.
"How is he doing?" Qrow asked.
"It's just a wee cold. He should be better by tomorrow." Muriel answered.
"That's good." I said as I poured Eustace a cup of tea.
"You know Eustace. You should thank Courage and Jaune for getting rid of that curse." Muriel told him.
"Hey. We helped." Ruby said pouting. We all chuckled at her cute expression. But the mood quickly soured when Eustace roughly took out the thermometer and began to growl.
"What are you both doing with my hat?" He demanded. He the roughly grabbed the hat and put it back on his head. But as soon as he did that, the cloud reappeared and began to pour.
'Not again.'I thought annoyed.
"There ain't no such thing as a curse." Eustace bitterly said. And as soon as he said that, the cloud struck his head with lightning. Leaving behind nothing but his charred head. We laughed at this but grew annoyed quickly when we realized we had to deal with his cloud for a while until we find another way to get rid of it.
'Going to be a long time.' I thought annoyed. 'Least I have a good book to calm me down.'
