Over the course of the next few months of Jaune's stay at the prestigious Beacon Academy, the students quickly came to adore the blonde child and the feeling was returned ten-fold with Jaune's constant hero-worship of the students of Beacon. That being said, as they interacted and played together, Jaune and the students quickly learned what not to do if they wanted to remain on Glynda Goodwitch's good side.

Watch a movie on the library computers instead of helping Jaune study? A scalding look from the woman and an extra assignment alongside it.

Sequestering him on a trip to Vale for new clothes without her permission? A vicious scolding alongside cleanup duty for the next three months.

Playing a game of Jaune-Ball where the students formed two teams and used Jaune as a way to score points by throwing the aura-infused child around at hilariously fast speeds? The beating of a lifetime until Jaune could calm down Glynda and assure her that he wasn't being bullied and had made the game up himself.

Try to interrupt one of Jaune's training sessions with Ozpin? Luckily no students were permanently injured, physically that is.

Nevertheless, the student body and Jaune had quickly become accustomed to each other, much to the entertainment of the rest of the staff and the annoyance of Ms. Goodwitch.

Today was a day like every other, Jaune was currently in the library reading the books Professor- sorry, Doctor Oobleck had assigned him. Once he was done reading and taking notes, he'd head over to the good Doctor's classroom during his break to go over anything he didn't understand and a pop-quiz on the history of Vale if he was unlucky.

With a stretch, Jaune looked over at what he had written down and was satisfied with his notes, this week they were covering Vale's industrial revolution. He was on par with every other child in Vale, if not ahead due to his exceptional teachers. He finished jotting down any important names he might have missed and placed the books alongside his notebook into the bag a student had given him.

Said bag had also been seen as an art project by many, its surface covered in stickers and more than a few doodles, a majority of which were made by Jaune himself. Cleaning up, Jaune slung his bag over his shoulder and headed towards the cafeteria. Seeing as he had an hour before he had to meet Oobleck and was sure Ms. Goodwitch wouldn't mind him having a small snack before lunch.

The large halls were empty as Jaune skipped to his destination, humming the tune of whatever viral song the students had introduced to him. Once in the cafeteria, he made his way to the kitchens where the kitchen staff was busy at work preparing the insane amount of food Beacon Academy consumed in a single day.

Without missing a beat Jaune made a beeline to the counter where all the sugary sweets lay in waiting, just asking to be eaten. He gave a wave to the head chef and grabbed the extra plate of cookies that was already prepared for him, grabbing his snack Jaune made his way back to his room where he was planning to eat the cookies and watch some cartoons.

Of course, not even the brilliant mind of a seven-year-old child could account for everything, as it turns out Jaune had miscalculated when Ms. Goodwitch's class would end. How did he realize his mistake you may ask? Well, both Ms. Goodwitch and Jaune Arc arrived at his door at the same time.

Glynda was not impressed in the slightest at catching Jaune red-handed, giving him that look.

"I was bringing them to you?" Jaune lied with a smile that he hoped was adorable enough to pull the lie off.

It was not.

Ms. Goodwitch opened the door with one hand and alleviated Jaune's hand of the cookie plate with another, "You can have these after dinner," she stated in a firm voice.

"Why after dinner?" Jaune whined as he plopped down on the couch.

"Just be glad I'm not taking away your T.V privileges young man." Ms. Goodwitch answered.

Jaune huffed, "Fine." He said before grabbing the remote and turning on some cartoons. He also decided that the best way to watch them was upside down of course.

"Only one episode before you go to Oobleck's classroom all right?" Goodwitch said, sitting down on the kitchen table with a cup of coffee she had prepared and a book that read "How To Parent Even Better For Dummies" on the front cover.

"Yes ma'am," Jaune said, giggling at the latest shenanigans of a cartoon mouse and the cat who was trying to hunt it.

The cartoon followed the usual cartoon template, the cat tried to hunt the mouse and in some comedic twist of luck, it'd be the cat that got hurt in the end.

After the episode ran its course Jaune straightened himself out and grabbed his bag before leaving for Oobleck's classroom. Lunch had let out by now so plenty of students now roamed the halls as they headed to the cafeteria, which meant plenty of headpats and high-fives for Jaune as he made his way to Oobleck's classroom.

Arriving a bit earlier than necessary Jaune entered the classroom before heading over to his usual seat at the front of the room. After a moment or two, the doors opened again to reveal the bespectacled, green head of Doctor Oobleck himself.

"Hello, Doctor Oobleck!" Jaune said.

The good doctor smiled "Hello Jaune, ready to go over today's chapter?"

Jaune returned the smile and got out his notes "Yep."

"Good, good, now let us begin." And thus began the thousand word per hour session of Bartholomew Oobleck, which covered all the topics that Jaune already knew, that which he didn't fully understand, and more that he didn't even know about.

As the hour passed Oobleck's session came to a close, meaning that Jaune would be left to his own devices until classes ended for the day and his training with Ozpin would begin.

This meant that a very bored child with access to a weapon was now loose on the school, and if it had been anyone other than Jaune this might have raised alarm. Luckily it was Jaune, who had listened attentively to Ozpin's lesson on weapon safety and would never dare to disobey the headmaster.

What might Jaune be doing? Training of course, by now his sessions with the headmaster had progressed quite a bit. Once Ozpin had hammered in the basics of blocking and footwork they had moved on to adding sword strikes into the mix. This was precisely what Jaune was going over right this second, standing in a guard stance facing a wooden pole dummy.

Striking at one of the limbs Jaune sent a wooden limb spinning with his blow, forcing him to shift his stance and block with Crocea Mors' shield. Without missing a beat he twisted his body and stepped back to deliver a wicked overhead slash to the now still limb, once again sending it flying back and making the branch attack him. Jaune then stepped back a second time to dodge the attack completely, landing in another guarded pose with his shield protecting his front with its mass and his sword held close to his body just like Ozpin had taught him.

Jaune kept up the attacks and fell into a rhythm, blocking, dodging, and attacking as required. At the peak of his little session, the dummy's limbs seemed to blur with speed, Jaune's face scrunched up in a display of concentration as he felt his body fall into the motions Ozpin had imprinted into his body.

By the time Jaune stopped and set down Crocea Mors, he looked around the room and saw that around the entrance of the training room, Ozpin, Professor Port, and Doctor Oobleck were all standing and watching him. The second they noticed him watching they walked forward with cheers of encouragement and pride.

Port was the first to reach the now blushing boy, who was embarrassed at the attention he was receiving from the teachers. "My boy! Look at how you moved! What marvelous progress, why you even remind me of myself when I was your age!" The jolly hunter professed loudly, patting him on the back.

Next was Oobleck, who much like Port was a figure of pride at Jaune's display of skill "I agree with Port, that was quite impressive Jaune. I cannot wait to see how you progress further as time goes on." He said in a slower tone than usual, letting the words fully sink into their small knight.

By now Jaune was a blushing mess, flush with embarrassment at the compliments and praise. Of course, this didn't stop Ozpin from commending him as well, "Look at how you've grown Jaune, look at what you can do," he said as he gestured to the dummy. Said dummy now showed significant wear and tear, the points of impact of where Crocea Mors' shield and sword struck beckoning like a beacon of Jaune's progress.

"I only did what you taught me," Jaune mumbled, scuffing the ground with his foot as his face glowed like a tomato.

Ozpin smiled, "I might have taught you the movements but it is you who used them in such a way. It was your hard work and dedication that has brought you this far, and I agree with our dear Doctor, I cannot wait until you blossom into the huntsman you are meant to be."

The small knight couldn't help but look bashful under all the praise, smiling that smile that captured the heart of Beacon.

"Well look at the time, I think we've forgotten why we came here in the first place lads." Port said as he looked at his watch "It's time for dinner Jaune and we came to fetch you."

"Dinner?" Jaune asked, "But it was just lunchtime?"

All eyebrows collectively raised at this. Ozpin was the first to comment on it. "Jaune, have you been practicing since lunch?"

"Uhh, maybe?" He answered, looking around at the windows to allow his inner-clock to kick in. Seeing as the golden rays of the sun were tinted with much redder than expected Jaune could safely say that it was now well into the afternoon, which meant he had been training for a few hours.

"Well then, let's get going before our dear Glynda begins to fret," Ozpin stated, leading the group back to their dinner.

As Jaune grew and developed under Ozpin and Beacon's staff's tutelage, many things were discovered, the biggest being that when it came to fighting, none could defeat the young boy in a battle of attrition. His innate talent with aura and the large aura preserves he possessed meant that even a student at Beacon would have a difficult time putting the young knight down if not only due to the ridiculous constitution he possessed.

He was a different breed to the usual hunter candidate. Where young trainees usually focused on being fast and overly aggressive to make up for their size in training, Jaune was cautious and leaned towards letting the battle play out until he wore out his opponent, however it was difficult for the people around him to convince him of this since Jaune had only people vastly superior to compare himself to.

Glynda Goodwitch noticed this and brought it up to Ozpin, worried that this might affect his growth in some way if he continued to have no one his age to compare himself with. So at the age of twelve, Jaune Arc was sent to Signal Academy for a semester, where he'd spend the last week of summer there with Qrow Branwen.

Qrow promised Glynda that he'd be watching over the young knight like a hawk, or in this case a crow, and so the young knight went to stay with the man that had saved him all those years ago. Getting on a bullhead directly from Vale to Patch, making sure to take his motion sickness medicine along the way as well, wouldn't want to taste his breakfast again after all.

The flight was fairly quick for the distance they traveled, the pilot waved it off as being lucky when they landed in the afternoon. Jaune had messaged Qrow when the pilot had referenced that they would be arriving earlier than usual, minding his manners and not wanting to be an unexpected surprise.

Sadly it seemed that Jaune's luck had run out, seeing as they were landing his motion sickness medicine wore off. Taking out the pill canister he dreaded the lack of weight, shaking it to no avail. Opening the lid Jaune saw that he had no more pills to take, meaning his stomach did its best imitation of a gymnast in a dryer.

The second they landed Jaune bolted out of the bullhead, locking his sights on a trash-can further down the airfield. With the speed of a man possessed, he bolted before vomiting his insides out into the trash-can. To further complicate his luck Jaune immediately heard a low chuckle behind him.

"Looks like you haven't changed a bit, kid," Qrow Branwen said, standing in all his surprisingly sober glory.

Jaune turned his gaze onto Qrow, giving a small blush at his predicament, "Hello sir, thank you for doing this," he said.

"Don't worry about it, also don't call me sir, makes me feel old," Qrow stated.

Straightening up and shifting the two duffel bags he had on him Jaune nodded before noticing that Qrow had two companions with him. Two girls, one his age with golden hair and lilac eyes, and a younger dark-haired girl with shining silver eyes.

The blonde girl cracked a crooked smile before approaching him and extending her hand, "Heya Vomit-Boy, I'm Yang Xiao-Long"

Jaune tentatively shook her hand, "My name is Jaune Arc, not Vomit-Boy."

Yang laughed, "Whatever you say Vomit-Boy."

Before Jaune could say anything about the nickname he was interrupted by the smaller girl who zoomed right up to him. Well not him specifically, but Crocea Mors sheathed at his waist.

With a quick grab the weapon was snatched and unsheathed, "What's your weapon called? What does it do? Is it mecha-shift? Is it a gun!" She exclaimed, looking up at Jaune with big ol' silver eyes.

"Ruby, you can't just take someone's weapon like that!" Scolded Yang, going into big sister mode on Ruby.

"It's all right, uhh, and for those questions. Crocea Mors, It's a sword and shield, no, and no," said Jaune before taking his sword back and clipping it on his belt, swearing to get a better way to fasten it to himself.

"Oh so it's boring," responded Ruby.

"It's a classic!" Jaune bristled. Hand at his hilt in an almost protective way, as if to defend his weapon from the criticism.

Yang quickly judo chopped Ruby on the head, cutting her off before she could continue. Making her eep and cover her head with her hands.

"Anyway I'm sorry for Ruby, she's a tad antisocial if you catch my drift," Yang said, shooting Ruby a look to shut her up.

Qrow butted in, "Are you kiddos going to keep flirting or can we get going."

This got an immediate reaction out of Yang and Jaune, both a mass of blushing faces and fumbling words claiming that they weren't flirting. This got a good chuckle out of Qrow, "All right, all right I believe you. Now let's get going."

They walked in silence towards an aged truck with dull red paint worn with time, this silence was interrupted by Ruby.

"What's flirting?" She asked innocently.

Qrow stopped to think for a second before giving his answer, "Ask your dad."

Ruby nodded before hopping in the back of the truck, Yang doing the same in a single motion. Yang then motioned for her fellow blonde to hop in, so Jaune threw his duffel bags in the back, and mimicking Yang's jump he landed in the cargo bed.

The only adult got into the driver's seat and started up the truck with a rumble, setting down the road with a steady motion. Jaune got a brief sense of deja-vu as he saw the rustic countryside fly by them, enjoying the sights as the wind ruffled his hair.

"Uncle Qrow said you're from Beacon. Is that true?" Ruby asked, interrupting the silence once again.

Jaune scratched his face, "Well yeah, I live there." He said.

"You live at Beacon?" Asked Yang, surprise leaking into her voice.

"Yeah, I also get taught by the teachers there," Jaune answered.

"Our Dad and Uncle are also teachers, but they teach at Signal, not Beacon" stated Ruby, absently picking at a string on her jacket.

"Dad's the best teacher," boasted Yang "I mean he taught me after all."

The other blonde raised an eyebrow, "Well Ozpin himself teaches me." He said.

"Who's Ozpin?" Replied Yang

Jaune looked dumbfounded, "Ozpin? You know, the headmaster of Beacon? He probably taught your dad while he was at Beacon."

"Well I haven't heard of him so he can't be that important," Yang said, "I also bet that my dad taught me better than some old guy taught you"

"And I doubt your dad could teach you better than the headmaster of Beacon could teach me" stated Jaune.

The two blondes went into a stare-off, the challenge being issued between them.

Ruby looked back and forth between the two, "Are you two flirting?" She asked.

That broke the stare off as both blondes vehemently refused to Ruby that they weren't flirting, which just made Ruby's face change from one of curiosity to one of suspicion.

Luckily for Jaune and Yang, the truck hit a series of potholes which rattled the truck violently, Qrow yelling from the front "Sorry about that! Didn't see those!"

The potholes worked as a perfect distraction since Ruby was now begging her uncle to hit more potholes so they could feel like they were on a roller coaster. Sadly for Jaune and Yang, Qrow listened and hit every single pothole on the way to their destination. This also brought up Jaune's motion sickness, meaning he was bent over the back of the truck throwing up the little he had left. Of course, this only meant that Yang's nickname of him was reinforced, even more, setting Vomit-boy in stone.

Eventually, the group arrived at a nice cabin, which Jaune could see out of the corner of his eye while giving the ground a big hug as he recovered from his motion sickness. Yang was laughing at the sight, finding Jaune's misfortune to be hilarious while Ruby just sat on his back poking his head asking if he was dead.

Jaune eventually recovered, standing up with Ruby still clinging to his back which he didn't mind. She was around nine so the weight didn't mean much to Jaune who had both training and aura. And so they entered the house, which smelled like something delicious was cooking.

It turned out that Tai Xiao-Long was in the process of cooking dinner, meaning the house was full of a wonderful aroma. Ruby then, while still on Jaune's back, called to her father and told him something very important.

"Dad, Yang's flirting with Jaune!" She yelled out, causing everyone in the living room to freeze.

Both Jaune and Yang froze, Yang in fear and Jaune from embarrassment. The reason Yang was scared became obvious soon enough, as a loud set of clattering and crashing could be heard from the kitchen. After half a second Tai emerged from the kitchen in a rush, half-covered in noodles and what seemed to be stew.

"WHAT!" He yelled. Locking his sights onto the young boy whom he knew was Jaune, although the photos Glynda had sent him were of Jaune at a younger and cuter age.

Jaune immediately dropped Ruby or at least tried to, seeing as the little girl was now hanging off his back solely by his neck, and put his hands up in a defensive manner.

"It isn't what it sounds like sir!" He said at the same time Yang blurted out "Ruby doesn't know what she's talking about!" All the while Ruby hung from Jaune's neck and gave a giggle as she was thrown around by Jaune's erratic motions.

Qrow took the whole scene in, from Ruby hanging from Jaune's neck, to Yang and Jaune's frantic words to his brother-in-law covered in what was supposed to be their dinner, and decided that this was one of the funniest things he'd ever seen. Qrow laughed his ass off in the background while Yang finally assured her dad that she wasn't flirting and Ruby just got confused by her uncle.

The older Xiao-Long finally calmed down and gave a sigh, finally realizing that he'd covered himself in pasta.

"I'll uh, go clean up. Sorry about that kiddos, you know how your old man gets." Tai said with an embarrassed chuckle.

Jaune was quick to respond, "It's all right sir, no harm done."

"Well aren't you a polite young man, make yourself at home," the older blonde said, patting Jaune's shoulder without realizing he had sauce-covered hands. Jaune nodded and looked for a place to set down his bags for the moment, choosing the couch as a good spot.

Once done with that he headed over to the kitchen and saw the mess that had been made. The stove was turned off thankfully, but the wok that had been used to cook the food had been flipped onto the ground causing most of the mess. Minding his manners he set the wok in the sink and began cleaning, finding a mop and bucket fairly easily he went to work. By the time Yang and Qrow popped their heads into the kitchen, it was sparkling clean again, except for the dishes that Jaune was currently doing.

Ruby was there as well, hanging like a sloth from Jaune's neck and opening her mouth to make an 'ahh' sound every so often so her post would feed her some cut-up fruits. "Whoa look at Vomit-Boy over here, you're like a mini-dad," Yang laughed.

"Blue eyes, blonde hair, has a girl clinging off him at all times, sounds like Tai all right," Qrow added, joining Yang in the teasing.

This got a blush out of Jaune, holding up a bowl of cut-up fruit ranging from strawberries, kiwi, and pineapple "Would y'all like some? Hope you don't mind, I cut up some fruit for Ruby."

Yang popped a chunk of pineapple in her mouth, "You aren't half bad Vomit-Boy" she stated after swallowing the fruit. Qrow didn't mind a fresh snack either, chowing down on the fruit salad while they waited for Tai to freshen up. After a few minutes, he emerged looking fresh and showered, eyes widening at the clean kitchen.

"Qrow did you clean?" He asked.

"Nah it was the kid" Qrow responded.

"Yang?"

"The other one."

"Ruby?"

"The other, other one."

Tai popped his head out to look at the kitchen and into the living room seeing Jaune serve the fruit salad on the coffee table. He hurried over to pick up Ruby and set her down from Jaune's back, who gave a small whine at being removed from her steed. Giving a small glare at both Qrow and Yang who were sitting on the couch, "You don't have to do all this Jaune, you're a guest." He said.

"It's no big deal sir, I'm going to be here for a whole semester so I might as well help around," Jaune responded.

"Really I insist, sit down and I'll call for some pizza." Said Tai, taking out his scroll to call the local pizza place. Once they picked up he leaned over and asked what the group would like.

"Pepperoni!" Said both Yang and Ruby.

"Pineapple." Shot out Qrow, which was seconded by Jaune. Yang and Ruby looked over at the two in disgust, but Qrow stuck out his tongue and blew them off.

In the end, they ordered three pizzas, one pepperoni, one pineapple, and one meat-lovers pizza. The delivery driver arrived soon enough, receiving a good-sized tip from Tai as they got paid. Luckily the pizza had arrived just in time, as they had just finished gobbling down the fruit salad Jaune had prepared.

The difference in flavors of jumping from fruits to pizza was strange, to say the least, but the children were hungry enough that it didn't matter. Jaune and Qrow were the ones that ate the pineapple pizza, seeing as everyone else seemed appalled at them for even considering the concept of eating it. Yang ate both meat-lovers and pepperoni, while Ruby was content with her few slices of pepperoni, and Tai served himself the rest of the meat-lovers that Yang didn't swallow whole.

Once they were finished Tai showed Jaune where he would be staying, a nice room upstairs with a twin bed and a nightstand next to it with the closet across from it. Seeing as it was getting dark Jaune asked where the restroom would be so he could shower, Tai then pointed him in the right direction and said goodnight.

Jaune went to shower as Tai went to bed, finishing with efficiency before heading to his room himself. He laid down and pulled out his scroll, mindlessly scrolling through the internet before finally going to sleep. Or at least he tried, seeing as his rest was disturbed by a sudden noise on his window.

He opened the window to see what it was only to get smacked in the face by a pebble.

"Oops! Sorry!" Whispered a voice, which of course belonged to Yang Xiao-Long.

"What are you doing?" Asked Jaune in a whisper.

"Do you want to do something fun?" She asked back.

Jaune gave a look, "Uhh, sure? I guess?"

"Well get down here. Also, bring your sword and shield." Yang said.

The blonde boy then tried to sneak out of his room, grabbing Crocea Mors and heading out in sweatpants and a t-shirt. He crept down the stairs as best he could to slip down to meet with Yang, who stood in the doorframe of the backdoor. She signaled him to follow her, and while normally a boy at Jaune's age would go wild at the prospect of hanging out with a girl alone in the middle of the night, the fact that she had what appeared to be a set of weapons around her wrist he knew otherwise.

Yang led Jaune down a trail in the woods, their final destination being a small clearing that showed various signs of wear and tear. Standing in the center of the field Yang threw her arms down and extended the clunky bracelets on her wrists into large metal gauntlets.

Turning to Jaune she gave a wicked smile, "Well then Vomit-Boy, let's find out who has the better teacher", Yang challenged as she got into a fighting stance. The other blonde knew what was going on but was still shocked at Yang's actions, the shock didn't last long as he unsheathed his sword and extended the shield in one smooth motion.

"Whenever you're ready Yang." He stated, guard up and sword ready to strike. With an even larger smile, Yang shot her gauntlets behind, shooting her forward with an overhead hook. Going straight to attack Jaune's temple in a somewhat sloppy motion. Even as fast as she was going her fist was diverted as Jaune shoved his shield upward, tilting her fist at an angle at slashing her stomach.

Jaune's attack was solid and hit true, but Yang seemed to shrug it off and delivered a devastating hook to his stomach. He was sent flying back three feet, his aura absorbing most of the blow and landing in a guarded stance again. He set his stance deep into the ground, eyes trained directly at Yang as Jaune lifted his shield to cover most of his chest. Yang cocked a brow at his ploy, seeing as it was the same as the first. She shrugged it off quickly and repeated the same move as well as she shot forward.

This time the hook shifted into a feint, Yang shifting her body last minute so that it was her right fist flying straight towards Jaune's face. Once again the shield shifted last minute, blocking the strike head-on in a loud ringing sound. Yang expected this to happen but didn't realize that Jaune hadn't shifted an inch, stopping her dead in her tracks and without enough room to deliver another punch. Seeing this she unloaded a round into Jaune's stomach, this time he dropped his shield and blocked the attack effectively. Retaliating with a horizontal slash to Yang, Jaune struck across her collarbone and tried to force room between the two.

Yang, however, didn't let this happen, taking the slash in stride her eyes flashed red and her golden hair flickered with flame. She then unloaded a flurry of blows onto her opponent, going all out in a series of hooks and cruel jabs. Jaune weathered the storm as best he could, taking most hits to his shield as he threw his arm around to try to block the attacks. A few got through seeing as Yang was completely unrelenting, however, Yang wasn't the only one that could shrug off attacks as if they were nothing.

With a heave, Jaune pushed through Yang with a shield bash, making room and sending her reeling backward as he interrupted her tempo. It was a solid attack too, seeing as it struck her chest with a large amount of force as well. Yang's hair crackled with flame still, but it had died down a bit from her flurry of blows. The second she recovered from Jaune's attack, Yang threw out her fists as if shadowboxing, except instead of attacking the air with nothing happening afterward several buckshot flew outward at Jaune. This forced him to once again cover his center mass with his shield, blocking his view of Yang for half a second.

A second was all she needed since she appeared almost immediately at Jaune's side. With a wicked hook Yang both hit and shot out bullets directly at Jaune's flank, shooting him backward into a tumble. By now her hair was no longer on fire, her eyes shifting back to indigo as she panted in exhaustion.

Jaune himself was in the middle of tumbling across the field. He curled up into a ball and landed on his feet, skidding back a few feet with his shield back in a guard. Yang saw this and was slacked-jawed.

"How is your aura not broken yet!" She yelled out mid pant.

Her opponent huffed out short breaths before responding "I have a lot of it."

"You make me so mad!" Yang roared as she punched downward, shooting her upward instead of forward this time. Her body was a bit shaky and it was clear it was either the first time she was doing this or she rarely did. At the peak of her arc, she thrust her fist back again, sending her downward in a renewed fury, hair trailing behind in flames with eyes red in frustration. Yang reared a fist back, going to end this in a single punch.

The fist struck metal as Jaune blocked the attack, sending him to his knees as Yang landed with a furious blow. They both held their positions, frozen in exhaustion, however, the dreaded sound of aura cracking and breaking could be heard echoing across the field. If the two were frozen in exhaustion before they were now held still by shock, Yang stood wide-eyed as she felt her strength leave her and she fell back spread-eagle onto the grass in a fit of pants.

Yang's aura had broken, her last use of her semblance pushing her over the threshold. The exhaustion of the fight fully set into her bones as she heaved tired breaths. Jaune slowly stood and sheathed his sword before collapsing his shield and clipping it to his belt. Standing over Yang he extended a hand, giving a shaky smile.

She took his hand with a solid grasp, but instead of pulling herself up, she pulled him down in a sudden motion.

They both lay on the grass looking up into the night sky, out of breath and recuperating from their match. Yang was the first to break the silence.

"You weren't kidding when you said you had a lot of aura," she said, out of breath and panting.

Jaune laughed, "Yeah," he said breathily.

Eventually, as they lay in silence they heard a series of claps, both of them shooting up in search of the source of the sound. It didn't take long for Qrow to emerge from the woods, a sly grin on his face.

"Well, well, well, that was quite a show you both put up," He said "Ozpin wasn't kidding when he said you were good Jaune, same goes to you Yang. That was pretty good for a bunch of gremlins."

"Hi uncle Qrow," Yang said sheepishly.

"Hi to you to twerp, now hurry up and follow me back before your dad wakes up too," Qrow said.

Yang and Jaune scampered up and hurriedly made their way to follow Qrow, he led them through a shorter path from which they had come in and got to the cabin faster. Qrow opened the back door silently and motioned for the two to hurry inside. Both blondes waved each other good night before going to their separate rooms, for real this time.

Morning rolled around quickly enough, Jaune and Yang ignored it, each snuggling into their beds to avoid the sun's rays. Their sleep was interrupted, however, by a series of knocks to their door from one Ruby Rose.

Yang was the first to be hauled off her bed, Ruby leading her sleepy sister to another door. This time it was Jaune she was waking, one hand steadying her sleeping sister and the other knocking on Jaune's door.

"Jaune! Wake up! Dad made waffles," Ruby screamed through the door. Jaune woke up with a groan, throwing a shirt on and opening the door to a very frazzled and dirty Yang.

Yang also saw first hand the damage she had done last night, as Jaune was a complete mess, hair covered in dirt and grime. His face was in a similar state and his clothes were no better. Yang couldn't help but snicker at Jaune's condition, which was seemingly returned as he also began to snicker at her.

Ruby looked at both of them covered in dirt and narrowed her eyes in suspicion, but not saying a thing about it. The three went down to the kitchen for breakfast, a smiling Qrow greeting them from the table. Lifting his coffee mug and taking a sip from it, a knowing look in his eyes. Tai turned from the stove, a plate of waffles in his hands and mug in the other.

As he set the food down on the table Tai took one good look at Jaune and Yang's state and quickly put together what had happened.

"Yang! What did you do!?" He scolded.

Yang stuttered and looked away, trying to think of an excuse for her and Jaune's look. However, before she could use whatever clever excuse she was thinking up Jaune interjected.

"It was me, sir, I wanted to see if I could compare to someone my age," he said, covering for Yang, "Yang said that her training was better than mine so I wanted to put it to the test."

Tai froze and gave a sigh, "It's all right Jaune, just next time you two decide to settle something make sure you have supervision."

Jaune nodded and dug into his pancakes, giving Yang a small wink once her dad's back was turned. He got a wide smile and a thumbs up in return. Ruby saw this and her suspicions seemed to be confirmed.

"Dad Yang's flirting with Jaune again!"
