"Did you get my note?" Malfoy asked Jade who quickly looked around.
"Malfoy are you insane?! If anyone sees me talking to you like this, I'll be killed! Let's have a normal conversation out of this alley!" Jade said, going to leave but Malfoy pulled her back.
"And if anyone I know sees me speaking to you, I'm finished." He said. Jade gritted her teeth, staring down at him.
"You have to calm down. No one will see us." He said.
"Why are you here? What did you want from me?" Jade asked.
"You got my letter this morning, didn't you?" He asked, smoothing his hair back.
"Asking me if I was available? This one?" Jade asked, pulling the letter out of her bag.
"Yes." He nodded.
"Sorry, I didn't realize I left my name out since I was in a rush. My owls get intercepted so I sent it through a Hogwarts owl when I wasn't being watched." He said.
"Holy shit, you get watched? Then I definitely can't be seen with you." Jade said.
Malfoy grabbed her arms and slammed her into the concrete. Jade felt the force of her head slamming into the solid brick wall. She felt a sharp pain in the back of her head and nearly cried, seeing Malfoy inches away from her face, looking furious.
"You're not listening to me and it's testing my patience! No one is watching us!" he snapped. Jade breathed heavily, turning her face away from Malfoy as she started crying.
"No…no, please don't cry." He said, letting her go. She cried harder, rubbing the back of her head.
"Fred would have protected me from you!" she squealed.
"Yes! I know! He's dashing and can save you from anything but I didn't mean to hurt your head." He said.
"You're not a good person. I don't want to talk to you." Jade sobbed, closing her eyes. She heard him sigh, gently hug her and rub the back of her head where it hit the wall.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you." he said, still rubbing her head. "Is that better? Will you speak to me now?" he asked.
"No." Jade answered. Malfoy smirked, shaking his head.
"Well if it helps, you sing and dance horrendously." He said.
Jade smiled and calmed herself down, understanding that he was in a difficult situation. She just wished she wasn't so obligated to helping him so much because Astoria loved him.
"Sometimes I don't even realize what kind of person I turned out to be in front of my loved ones…of course, you're not a loved one." He said quickly. Jade chuckled for once and Draco smiled.
"But you've been kind to me and I know it's because of Astoria. Even through all that I put you and your boyfriend's family through, you've still shown that you can be generous and forgiving." He said.
"You're not so bad yourself Malfoy. Even though you're an arse and you're incredibly stubborn and mean." Jade said seeing him smirk.
"Stop…you're making me blush." He said.
"You asked if I was available to talk. What did you need to talk about?" Jade asked.
"An hour before dinner, would you be able to meet me at the same place?" he asked.
"Second-"
"Exactly. Will you? It's really important; otherwise I'll just lose my head if I keep speaking to Myrtle. She's a nice girl and all but she's not human." He said.
"I'm sure I can. Gin has practice and I'll make up an excuse for Ass." Jade said, seeing him nod.
"You can't tell her about this. I know I've told you before but you can't mention that I speak to you." he said.
"I know, I won't." she said. "Good. I'll see you tonight then. Do you want any money?" he asked, putting his hood up.
"Why do you keep asking me if I need money? I have my own!" Jade said.
"I was just trying to be nice. Astoria loves eating those crystallized pineapples from Honeydukes. Just buy her that and buy yourself a pretty quill, some drugs or something." He said, handing her a pouch.
"I can buy them myself and I don't do drugs…not always anyways!" Jade said but Malfoy quickly left the alley. She tried following him out but he turned the corner and disappeared into the crowd.
"Stupid Slytherin…so full of himself and-"
"You haven't gone yet?" a cheery voice asked. Jade turned around to see Astoria standing behind her.
"I…I saw an old couple. I was talking to them about…well you know, they were asking if I was from Hogwarts and we were talking about it." Jade said seeing Astoria playfully narrow her eyes.
"Why are you stuttering?" she asked. Jade laughed, pointing to herself.
"Me? I'm not stutt-t-t-tering. See Ass, you put that thought in my head and now I'm doing exactly that!" Jade said seeing Astoria laugh.
"Okay fine, I get it. You know what? I'm starving and I think I see the two lovebirds coming our way! Hello there! Over here!" Astoria said, waving her arm around.
"Did you two eat? We're both really hungry." Jade said.
"We were waiting for both of your fat faces to come around and sniff us out. What kept you so long?" Ginny asked as Jade and Astoria gently shoved her.
"Jade was talking to some old people here…although it took a long time." Astoria said cocking her eyebrow at Jade.
"Well I had to kill time to wait for your bathroom break, didn't I? What took you so long anyways?" Jade asked.
"Well if you really have to ask, I gave birth to a very brown baby-"
"I'll just stop you right there. I beg and plead for my life; I'll never ask you that question again." Jade said seeing Astoria laugh.
"How charming are you?" Ginny asked as Harry laughed and coughed.
"I'm really hungry, did you both eat?" Jade asked Harry and Ginny who shook their heads.
"I don't think anyone would be hungry after that, why would you be?" Harry asked.
"I'm just used to it." Jade shrugged.
"Plus, we've heard worse!" Ginny said.
Alicia Spinnet took a sip of her tea and nodded towards Fred who had been rotating his teacup for the past twenty minutes.
"You haven't even touched your cup since you got it. Is everything all right?" Alicia asked.
"Yeah, it's just a little too hot for me right now." Fred said. Alicia placed a hand on his and gently squeezed it.
"If this is making you uncomfortable, I'll leave. I know we were set up but Angelina would understand." Alicia said.
"It's not you, it's me. It's just been four months since I…it'll take some time for me to get used to this again." Fred explained. Alicia nodded.
"I completely understand. Do you want to talk about it?" Alicia asked, seeing Fred shake his head, taking a sip of his tea.
He saw Ginny and Harry with two others behind them coming through the door of the tea shop. They didn't see him and joked around; pushing each other and gagging as Astoria looked on brightly, probably telling them another dirty joke. Even though she looked like she was back to normal, it was another girl that took a seat that gave him stomach sinking, heart flipping feelings and a nauseating headache. She was shaking her head and laughing at Astoria like she wasn't as bothered over their break up like he was feeling for the past four months. Her words replayed over in his mind and he was angry all over again. He was miserable since the day she told him and now she was happy and moved on, forgetting all about him? As much as he thought that there were times that he should have answered her owls or tried to revive their relationship, he couldn't get over the fact that she betrayed him.
Now, seeing her functioning normally made him wish that she could just feel how low he felt. He got up and threw the teacup on the floor, gaining everyone's attention.
Alicia jumped, looking horrified.
"Fred!" she exclaimed. Jade turned, seeing Fred and he could see the color leaving her face as her mouth dropped.
"Oh! I thought you forgot about me!" he said.
"Fred, what the hell are you doing?" Ginny asked but Fred ignored her. He walked over to Jade and placed his hands on the table, leaning towards her face.
"Remember me? I'm the guy you fucked over when you had sex with someone else! Is he keeping you happy?" Fred asked. Her eyes quickly grew red and teary as she stared back at him, trying to bite down her sob.
"How dare you come in here and walk around like everything is fine and dandy when I feel like throwing up every time I even think of you?" Fred asked, shaking the table.
"Fred, please-"
"NO! There's no time to be polite now! Why don't you have a conscience? It's not fair for me to feel like this when you should be feeling worse! Sometimes I just fucking hate you, do you know that? Can you live with that? Knowing that?" he roared, knocking the table down. Jade screamed, placing her hands over her mouth, tears streaming down continuously.
"Fred!" Ginny and Harry yelled, standing up. Astoria rushed over to Jade, wrapping her arms around her.
"What the hell is wrong with you, Weasley?" she barked.
Fred blinked, still seeing Alicia sitting in front of him, smiling softly.
"Did you take a daydream charm?" she asked.
He looked back at Jade who ordered her lunch with Madame Puddifoot and folded her arms, grinning at Ginny as she turned bright red as Harry excused himself to go to the bathroom. Harry saw Fred sitting there with Alicia at the corner table. He was generally surprised but was quickly switched to concern when he realized that Jade was only a few feet away.
"Fred! I didn't expect you here." Harry said, shaking Fred's hand.
"I should have known today was a Hogsmeade day. I see you bought my sister and some of her friends along…how many times have you thought about killing yourself in the past few hours of spending your time with them?" Fred asked.
Harry looked at Alicia who smiled awkwardly, not knowing whether Fred was serious or not.
"Uh…none." Harry said, scratching his head.
"Alicia Spinnet right?" Harry asked, shaking Alicia's hand.
"I'm happy you remembered. How are you Harry?" she asked seeing Harry nod and smile.
"Everything could be better, but how have you been?" Harry asked.
"I've been great, working for the Quidditch organizations for the past two years." She said seeing Harry nod.
"Well we should catch up one day and talk more." Harry said seeing her nod.
"It's really good to see you again." She said shaking his hand.
"Same to you too." Harry said.
Harry left to go to the bathroom and Alicia made a face at Fred who kept staring bitterly at Jade who sputtered in laughter as Ginny batted Astoria away with the menu. When Harry walked back out, he gave another nod towards Alicia and Fred.
"Hey! Harry!" Fred whispered.
"Yeah?" Harry asked, pausing.
"I'd appreciate if you didn't tell her I was here. I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. Poor thing might just leave hungry but then again, you'd have to feel guilty to feel uncomfortable right?" Fred asked. He didn't understand why Harry looked fed up with Fred; he was the victim here, after all!
"I'll do what I can." Harry said.
"Thanks mate. You're a solid guy." Fred said.
"So what did you two talk about?" Jade asked, when Harry left. Ginny turned bright red when Astoria formed out a scene between the salt and pepper shakers.
"Oh…Harry, I love you and your ugly looking round glasses." Astoria said in a squeaky voice, shaking the pepper shaker.
"And I love your small round arse, can I have a lick?" Astoria asked, shaking the salt shaker.
"You need help. Jade, could you take the shakers away from her?" Ginny asked as Astoria started moaning and panting as she started moving the shakers against each other.
"I want to see how this finishes, first." Jade said, clapping Astoria's hand and laughing when Ginny picked up a menu and swatted Astoria with it. Jade burst into laughter as everyone looked at them, getting curious when they heard Astoria moaning.
"What the fuck is wrong with the both of you?! I never acted like this in front of both of your crushes!" Ginny hissed when she saw Harry standing there, coming back from the bathroom. She saw Fred and the back of another girl's head she didn't recognize. Instantly, the feeling of dread came over her when she realized that Jade hadn't seen them yet. Fred was out of Jade's vision completely but Fred had a clear view of her from where he was sitting.
"Oh please, you told what's his name during our second year that I was snogging the pillow, thinking it was him, remember that Jade?" Astoria asked. Jade nodded, still laughing.
"Hey everyone!" Harry said, taking a seat in front of Ginny.
"That was a quickie." Astoria said, barely containing her laughter. She looked at Jade and slowly turned away spewing in laughter.
"What are they laughing about? And why is there so much salt and pepper on the table?" Harry asked Ginny. Jade and Astoria laughed even harder, nearly falling off their chairs.
"They smoked out whatever few brain cells that they had." Ginny said, ignoring them. She saw the look on Harry's face and quickly nodding towards where Fred sat and Harry nodded.
"You saw?" he asked in a low voice as Ginny nodded quickly.
"You think we should go?" Harry asked but a waitress walked by, serving them their plates.
"This laughing gave me a workout. Wow, am I starving." Jade said, picking up her steaming sandwich.
"Not anymore, plus, it would be really awkward to explain why, anyways." Ginny said.
"I don't see this ending well." Harry said as Ginny sighed.
"How did he sound?" Ginny asked. Harry shook his head.
"He's not handling it well at all. It's like a timed bomb to tell you the truth." Harry said.
"What are you two talking about-dammit I just burned my tongue!" Astoria screeched.
"What are you two whispering about?" Jade asked, noticing their anxiety.
Ginny saw Fred drawing himself closer to Alicia, saying something and running the back of his finger down her face. He moved in and started kissing her, causing Ginny to turn back to Harry who turned back around after seeing them. Jade moved her chair closer to Ginny and saw Fred kissing another girl. She dropped her sandwich, watching him run his hand through her hair and wrap the other around her waist, pulling her closer to him.
"I'm losing my tongue here!" Astoria yelled but paused, seeing Ginny and Harry looking highly uncomfortable with their heads bowed as Jade looked like she saw the ghost of Christmas past. She leaned over and saw what they were watching and went back to her seat, putting down her food. It was disturbing to see one of her best friends being tortured this way when all she wanted to do was get things back to normal with the man she loved. Fred was an idiot but he had the right to be angry of the false information given to him. However, she needed to tell him what McLaggen had told her a few minutes ago. She went to open her mouth but Jade excused herself, gathering her things.
"You didn't even eat." Ginny said but Jade pulled on her hat and smiled through her tear filled eyes.
"I'm not hungry. See you back at school." She said, getting up and going to leave but Fred was already standing there holding hands with Alicia.
"Oh my goodness! I had no idea you were here! How's the boyfriend? Where is the pretty little sucker?" Fred asked, looking around.
Jade kept looking at her feet, unable to look up. She was convincing herself not to cry in front of a room filled with strangers and a person she cared deeply about but Fred still continued to press her on.
"You know, Alicia, she's dating this wonderful bloke. A true catch that one but be warned; his good looks and charm can prove fatal. Isn't that right?" Fred asked Jade who wrinkled her face, trying hard not to burst into sobs.
"Fred, stop it." Alicia whispered but Fred chuckled, shaking his head.
"I can't believe you're feeling bad for her! She's the biggest fake I've ever met my entire life!" Fred said.
"Weasley, you better-" Astoria started.
"Ass, please. Please don't fight." Jade begged. Astoria clenched her jaw seeing Jade start to cry in front of her. It was the last thing she ever wanted, another last year Christmas disaster.
"He's giving you a hard time over-"
"Ass just shut up!" Jade shouted.
"Yeah Ass, just shut up." Fred said.
"You shut the fuck up you miserable bitch. Don't talk to me like I'm something you can push around. I don't love you enough to put up with your bullshit." Astoria warned.
"Oh! You love me!" Fred said, placing his hand over his heart. "That's enough from you, Fred." Ginny said, standing up as Harry paid the bill and put on his cloak.
"Enough out of me? Where were you when she blew McLaggen's brains-"
"Why do you have to publicize it this way? I told you that if you wanted to talk, we could but you didn't want to see me." Jade said weakly.
"I think I had a good reason to not want to see you. Excuse me for feeling a little stung when you slept with someone behind my back!" Fred said.
"Fred…" Jade said, breaking into fits of tears. "Oh sure, gather everyone's pity to make the ex-boyfriend look bad." Fred said.
"This has gone too far. It was really nice to see you, Alicia." Harry said, taking Jade's arm.
"Where's McLaggen? Did he dump you as soon as he got a piece of the tail he was chasing for a while? Or have you been having sex with him all this time and he found someone new?" Fred asked, watching Jade run out of the tea shop.
