May 1998

Bloodcurdling screams were covering every inch of the air along with the pieces of debris and shrapnel that flew across whenever a spell would hit the wall. Students were lying dead, on top of Death Eaters as Jade ran past them, holding on to her wand and leg for dear life. A blonde haired, blue eyed Death Eater was close at her heels, following her and blocking her spells with ease. Jade choked out a sob, feeling her lungs start to burn and her stomach cramp. She kept running, seeing less and less people in sight. Everyone was downstairs but Jade kept running as fast as she could, going anywhere to get rid of the Death Eater's trail.

"Locomotor Mortis! Really, darling. All you're doing is making this game even more fun to play!" he said, grinning and walking up to her slowly.

Jade tried a leg locker counter curse but her wand flew out of her hand and she fell back, panting for air. Sweat was rolling off to the sides of her face and she started sobbing as he walked up to her, wiping his bloody lower lip.

"I didn't appreciate you giving me that elbow. Now I'm going to snap it off so hard-"

"Hey Rowle!"

Rowle turned around and Jade looked to the side to see Draco standing a few feet away from them with his hand raised.

"Leave her alone. She's not a threat to anyone." Draco ordered. Rowle smirked, turning fully towards Draco.

"You've switched sides awfully quickly Draco. Indeciveness-no, I'm sorry, it's cowardice that runs in your family. It's what made you neither a hero nor a Death Eater!" Rowle said.

"Great. Are you going to stand there and give me this intervention now? We're in the middle of a war-"

"You interrupted first!" Rowle roared.

Draco threw a spell at Rowle, causing him to be thrown backwards, over the balcony. Jade lied there, her back being supported by the debris, watching Draco slowly look over the balcony.

"Well he obviously won't come back now will he?" he asked himself. He turned back around to see Jade holding her injured thigh.

"How badly did you hurt yourself?" Draco asked, quickly walking over towards her. He squatted down, inspecting the gash on her thigh that peeked from the tear of her jeans.

"I honestly don't know. I've been running for my life, I can barely feel my legs." Jade said, watching Draco wrap his cloak around her.

"We can't keep you out here like this for long. I'm going to hide you in a nearby room until this war is over and-"

"You-Know-Who is going to win. He's going to kill you after he kills me. Then he's going to go after Astoria and Scorpius-"

"He won't hurt a hair on anybody after tonight. I promise Jade. Potter will defeat him." Draco promised.

Jade trembled, holding the cloak tightly against herself.

"You've lost a lot of blood. You need to rest-"

"I can't! Everyone is downstairs! Fred is downstairs!" Jade said.

"You're fucking blue in the face and Weasley's already de-" Draco stopped quickly but Jade snapped up.

"What did you say?" Jade asked.

"Longbottom-"

"Not Fred. Malfoy, look at me!" Jade cried, grabbing his collar. "Please say you're lying. Please Draco." Jade sobbed.

"I couldn't see clearly. I saw an explosion and he was just lying there. I was too busy running after Ginny and protecting her too." Draco said.

"Malfoy, you have to take me to him. I don't care how but you need to take me now!" Jade said.

"Are you fucking mental?! I can't be seen even speaking to you! This is a war! People are dying!" Malfoy hissed.

"Malfoy if anything happens to Fred, I'll die!" Jade cried. Draco paused, gritting his teeth, giving Jade a hard look. She looked hideous with her mouth twisted and her face red as tears already leaking from the corner of her eyes.

"I can't believe you, Weasley. If we get out of this alive, I'll kill you." Draco said, grabbing her hand and pulling her up. "How's your leg? Can you walk?" he asked quickly.

"Yes, yes I can. Just tell me where to go." Jade said, limping along with him.

"Fred, please open your eyes. George what's happened to him?" Molly asked as Madame Pomferey tried to resuscitate Fred. George looked at Ginny, seeing her leaning into him, crying alongside her mother. Percy was on his knees with Madame Pomferey, trying to assist any way he could.

"Fred!" a hoarse voice shouted.

Everyone turned around, seeing Jade running towards them. Her face was covered with the fine white dust from the debris and blood.

"Jade you can't be here." George started, trying to block Jade from seeing Fred but she shoved him out of the way and threw herself at Fred's body. She kept murmuring his name and placing her head on his chest, crying and begging for him to wake.

"George take her!" Percy ordered. George didn't have the heart to wrangle Jade from Fred's body. Seeing her whisper into Fred's face and waiting for him to respond was bad enough.

"I swear I'll never leave you. All you need to do is come back to me Fred. Please Fred, open your eyes." Jade whispered softly, cradling his head in her hands. She waited, looking at him, feeling her heart sink by seconds. She wasn't ready for this truth, not now.

"Fred?" Jade croaked. Everyone who watched, slowly turned their heads away. Looking anywhere they could without having to look at Fred. Jade buried her face in Fred's chest.

"You rang?" a voice coughed.

Jade felt startled by the voice and quickly looked up to see Fred smiling softly, coughing. He looked around everyone's stunned expressions and looked at Jade.

"Sorry, I had to. Though I suppose it wasn't too funny now that I think about it. You swear never to leave me?" Fred asked Jade.

"Are you taking a piss?!" Ginny shrilled.
