Two Weeks Later
It had been the quietest two weeks of Draco's life in a very long time. He did not see Fred or Astoria around, wherever he went, let alone hear them. He also noticed that Scorpius had been completely alone. He used to be entertained by Fred and Astoria's company and even learned a few words from them. Now Scorpius was as crabby as ever, even though he was happy to see his father. Draco tried to lead a normal life but the only thing that he could think about was Jade. At inappropriate times, he would think about lying next to her on the beach or kissing her in front of a bonfire. He didn't want to spend a second in a cold, grey building, figuring out numbers and developing reports. During meetings, Draco would zone off, thinking of Jade hiking next to him, the same strand of hair on the side of her face, curled and matted against her sweaty neck. She would turn around and flash him a smile and her big playful brown eyes.
"Mr. Malfoy?" someone asked.
Draco blinked, realizing he was sitting in a conference room, all eyes on him.
"Yes? Sorry, what were you saying?" Draco asked.
He couldn't focus for the life of him. They kept repeating what they were saying over and over again but he couldn't listen. He should have been happy to have it all put behind him but now he couldn't get over it. All he kept thinking about how Astoria was right, as annoying as she was. She always had him figured out. His heart dropped, remembering how it felt to kiss her, running his fingers through her hair, bringing himself closer to her face and how she blushed before he-
"Mr. Malfoy?"
"Damn it Murray! I'm trying to think about her!" Draco barked. The entire room fell silent and Draco burned in embarrassment.
"If you would rather think about her than sign a multi-million Galleon-where are you going?" Murray asked, seeing Draco get up and gather his things.
"She's kissing her fiancé while I'm here thinking about kissing her. I'm getting what I want!" Draco said, running out.
Jade's doorbell rang while she was cooking. Knowing it was most likely Ginny and Hermione coming over to help save the day, Jade walked over and opened the door to see a flood of purple and silver balloons. Jade was startled to see so many balloons but she was even more stunned to see Scorpius grinning up at her, thrusting his fist at her. The ribbons were tied to his small fist in case he wanted to let any of them go but he seemed extremely excited to stand there with the balloons following him.
"Score?" Jade asked, immediately tearing up. She swooped down and picked him up, feeling him wrap his arms and legs around her.
"Balloons!" he said excitedly.
"I know! I can see them!" Jade squealed. She pulled back, kissing his face and her eye caught Draco leaning against her porch rail with his arms crossed. He wore a light blue shirt and black pants, looking calm and relaxed. Jade's smile vanished and she looked away, focusing on Scorpius instead.
"I want to apologize." Draco said. Jade still didn't look at him. She was trying to keep herself busy, with Scorpius on her hip. "Do you at least like the balloons?" Draco asked. Jade still didn't answer him. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-" he stopped, seeing Astoria and Fred inside, looking like they were worn out. Their faces were pale when they saw Draco and they looked upstairs repeatedly and debated with each other. Jade looked behind her to see what Draco saw and looked back at him.
"Er…I'm sorry. I'm sorry for being an arse and lying to you about seeing Astoria and Fred when I didn't. It was mean and stupid and I'm sorry." Draco said. He saw that she was softening up, trying to smile at Scorpius. "I take things to an extent sometimes." Draco said, seeing that he caught Fred and Astoria's attention. "Sometimes when I'm frustrated and emotional…especially when I don't know what I want, I tend to take it out on people who don't deserve it. I really appreciate that you try to at least understand where I'm coming from and just because of that, I should never take you for granted. So I'm sorry. I'm an arse and you knew that but I can do better. If there's anything else that you want me to apologize for, let me know but I punched Eli for you and I gave you my boots and walked around with my foot in plastic wrap. So I think a few kisses of gratitude are due." Draco said. He smiled, seeing that she was fighting a smile herself.
"Draco-" Jade started but Draco waved his hands, shaking his head.
"I'm just kissing-I mean kidding." He said quickly, seeing her laugh.
"Draco I really appreciate that you came all the way out here to apologize and it's a sweet thing but-"
"You should have at least given me a warning that you were leaving. Imagine if you had left again and no one knew where you were? I would have to track you all over again." Draco said.
"Why did you track me down Costa Rica the first time?" Jade asked.
That was a very good question that Draco was not prepared for.
"I…uh-"
"POOOKIE!" a voice rang out from inside the house.
It took Draco a few seconds to recognize where he heard that annoying pet name and voice before. He looked at Jade who bit her lip and looked down in shame. Fred and Astoria groaned, shaking their heads.
"Oh no. Please tell me that's not who I fucking think it is." Draco said, seeing Cormac appear from behind Jade, without a shirt.
"Draco, you remember Cormac McLaggen." Jade said.
"Pookie's fiancé. You're the one with the dead wife right?" Cormac asked.
