AN: As promised an extra chapter today. Yesterday my office door locked itself shut. We had to jimmy it like thiefs. The boss's keys were inside. lol. My boss needs to bite the bullet and fire my 3 bottom performers. The problem is she likes one of them.. no she likes all three of them. I do too but this is a numbers game. You can't keep people just because you like them when they choose not to ever improve.

Chapter 1 - Saturday

"You what?!" Jack asked her in astonishment. They were in his office and his door was thankfully closed as he'd raised his voice and was staring goggle-eyed at her now as she sat in the chair across from him looking chagrined.

"There's another problem…" Sam hedged. It was bad enough telling Jack that their offworld marriage on PX7-4B9 had led to one of the information officers pencil whipping the paperwork and recording it as an actual marriage. Sam thought with a small cringe.

Jack lowered his head and shoved his thumbs into the corners of his eyes. "What else?" He groaned.

"Well… you see because I'm listed as Catholic, and you are too… we have to get an annulment." Sam said with a deeper cringe. Pete wanted to get married in the church. Her church.

"What I don't get is how this got past either of us." Jack grumbled.

Sam let that one slide. Jack was notorious for just signing things without reading them. She could easily see him signing the paperwork that confirmed their offworld shenanigans had been, in fact, a real wedding. There was some question as to how she missed it, but if Walter brought her it in a stack of normal day-to-day work when she was busy with something else, she might have signed it without looking at the form as well. Especially if she only saw the bottom of it and assumed she was just signing off on a supply requisition for the team.

Instead she just shrugged while he looked at her hard. "Why can't you just go find a justice of the peace or something?" He asked her plaintively.

"Pete wants a big traditional wedding." Sam said defensively.

And what do you want? Jack asked Sam in his head as he looked at his miserable former 2IC. Clearly not me or you wouldn't be engaged to that spud, he thought savagely as his expression darkened with bitterness.

Sam, misinterpreting his thinly veiled ire at Pete for being directed at her, finally sat straighter. "I'll talk to the chaplain. He might be able to get this sorted out."

"I'm going to kill Danny." Jack muttered because he knew damned well whose reports had perpetrated this particular fiasco.

"It's not his fault they misread the reports, Jack." Sam snapped defensively at him. At his sharp look at her familiarity at work Sam stumbled verbally to add "Er, Sir." At the end in embarrassment.

Jack frowned and looked away. "Take care of it, Colonel." He said simply and it was clearly also a dismissal.

"Yes sir." Sam replied submissively and got up to leave. Years of her father then Jonas taking that tone had trained her not to respond with anything but compliance to it.
