UA stood high and proud on a clear day. Students walked from trains and into the main grounds to get to class. However, while the school usually had passerby's who took time out of their day to admire the building that taught the next generation of Heroes, today was different.
A mosh-pit of journalist and reporters crowded the entrance to the campus. They harassed any student unfortunate enough to get within their line of sight. Then again, it was no wonder why the media vultures hounded anyone related to the school given yesterday's announcement. All Might, the Symbol of Peace, publicly revealed that he was apart of UA's faculty of teachers.
Meanwhile, a man hid in the shadows of an alleyway. He watched the news scavengers try and sink their teeth into a small boy with green hair. They pestered the boy with questions about how the big Number One Hero was as good at teaching kids as he was saving them. The boy stammered to avoid the question as he tried to get through the bog of reporters.
The man hated all of it. He hated the journalists who lapped up anything and everything about Heroes. How they were quick to label anything into a dual-stance dichotomy: Heroes and Villains. He hated the boy who was throwing away his life to protect a rotten system. He hated the concept of Heroes themselves, who cared more about their own glory and image over helping the real victims of society. The man wanted to do nothing else but turn the whole school into dust.
But the man knew better. His master would admonish him for such foolish thinking. Attacking a school full of Heroes, especially with the top Hero, by himself wouldn't end well for him.
So, the man waited. He watched the green hair boy squeeze out of the sea of reporters and made his way further into campus. The man stood still in the darkness. He would act when his contact inside the school sent the signal. He smiled at the reporters. They would make a good distraction while he got what he came for.
The man scratched his neck in excitement. It wasn't about this job; it was what would come after. His dry, cracked lips spread further into a grin. He couldn't wait till the Heroes saw what his master cooked up.
Izuku sighed a breath of relief once he was inside. He saw horror stories about reporter mobs on Hero videos but experiencing one was completely different. Izuku didn't think he'd have to deal with the media so soon. He barely answered their rapid-fire questions about if All Might was a good teacher or not. How was he supposed to know? He had one class!
Well, that wasn't entirely true, but Izuku couldn't spill the beans about All Might training him nearly a year ago. Still, Izuku felt sorry for any other kids who crossed their path. Luckily, Aizawa came in and told them off as Izuku was making his way to the front door. The crowd didn't leave, but Izuku hoped they would reconsider their tactics on getting a scoop.
He really should have known better.
Izuku sat at his desk waiting for homeroom to start. As the bell rung, Aizawa sat at his desk and addressed the class.
"Today, you all will decide a crucial part that will affect the rest of your time here." Aizawa held the class in suspense.
"You must choose a class representative."
The class let out a collective sigh at something so mundane. However, it brought up a roar of nominations. From Kaminari to Ashido, the pink girl, to even Mineta. Of course, Kacchan threatened death to those who didn't vote for him.
Izuku kept quiet during all of this. He didn't want to be in any position of leadership, to be honest. He was hoping to coast through this without any trouble.
"Everyone!" Iida stood up and raised his voice. "The only way to solve this by a democratic election!"
"Wouldn't everyone just vote for themselves?" A frog-looking girl named Asui asked. "It's not like we know each other that well yet."
"Precisely! That way, the person with the most votes will have already won the respect and admiration of their classmates." Iida explained. He then turned to Aizawa.
"Aizawa, sir, will this be allowed?" Iida asked.
Aizawa drank from his juice pouch while already nearly cocooned in his sleeping bag.
"I don't care. Just finish before homeroom ends." Aizawa zipped up his sleeping bag and took a nap.
Iida passed out notecards for everyone to write down their votes. Izuku knew he wasn't going to vote for himself. He thought about his answer before writing it down. After all the cards were collected, the final verdict was added up.
Yaoyorozu ended up with 4 votes and, surprisingly, Izuku wound up with three.
"Yaoyorozu, congratulations, you're class representative." Aizawa said after his election power nap. "Midoriya, since you had the second highest amount of votes, you're vice-representative."
Yaoyorozu stood poised and dignified, like someone who was meant to be a leader. Izuku was sweating bullets, trying not to look like a fool.
Izuku was shocked by this turn of events. He didn't expect three different people to vote for him. He scanned the room to analyze who would vote for him. Uraraka, maybe. And that was a big maybe. At least he didn't get president. Izuku didn't think he would make it if he did.
"I thank everyone for their trust and pledge to be the best representative in all my ability." Yaoyorozu bowed after her short inauguration speech.
"A-And I promise to help…" Izuku gave a shaky thumbs up.
Yeah, Izuku wouldn't make it now. He needed to give the position to somebody else. But how would he do that?
Lunch period arrived and the trio of Izuku, Uraraka, and Iida all sat together at the same table.
"Congrats on getting VP, Deku," Uraraka congratulated the telekinetic.
"Yes, it seems the people have made their decision, and they wanted you." Iida said with less enthusiasm.
"Hey, I didn't think I'd get any votes," Izuku defended himself. "Honestly, I can't believe Iida didn't win. I mean, not that you look like a shoo-in for class rep, but -."
"Was my one vote from you, Midoriya?"
"Yeah, I thought you would be really good at it."
Iida nodded. "And while I didn't get the result I expected, I am willing to be the bigger man and admit you were a solid choice for representative. I did put my vote for you, Midoriya."
"Aww, it's been barely a week, and you two trust each other so much you'd vote for each other," Uraraka chimed in.
Izuku hid his face to deny the embarrassment of Uraraka pointing out how fast Izuku and Iida's friendship had developed.
"Speaking of which," Izuku spoke up to change to topic. "Iida, what did you mean by 'expected result'? Did you expect to win?"
"Yeah. Come on, Iida, we want to know." Uraraka added.
Iida seemed to be off guard by Izuku's question, as well as Uraraka's sudden curiosity. He looked to see if anyone was eavesdropping before leaning in.
"Okay, so do you two know of the Pro Hero, Ingenium?" Iida asked.
Both Izuku's and Uraraka's faces lit up in recognition.
"The Turbo Hero?!" Midoriya answered.
"I heard his agency has hundreds of Sidekicks!" Uraraka added.
"Well," Iida answered. "He's my older brother."
This earned gasps of amazement from the two.
"In fact, my whole family has a long history of being Pro Heroes." Iida added.
"Why didn't you tell us?! That's so cool!" Uraraka said.
"To be frank," Iida answered. "I didn't want my family's reputation to impact how everyone saw me. I wanted to be a Hero on my own merits, without my family's legacy."
Izuku thought about it, legacy. As far as he knew, Izuku was the first Pro Hero of his family. His mom never mentioned any relatives in the Hero business, and his father only communicated through paychecks and the occasional letter. Izuku never had to deal with living up to a family's standards the way Iida did.
Yet, his thoughts drifted back to the beach, where Izuku turned down All Might's power. What if he did accept One for All? Could Izuku handle that legacy? He probably would have kept it hidden, not only because All Might asked him too, but because Izuku would want his peers to see him for himself and not All Might's successor.
"I think I get it," Izuku mumbled before seeing that it caught the attention of his friends.
"I mean, I sort of get why Iida didn't tell us his family history." Izuku added. "And how he wanted everyone to see for who he is and not his family."
Iida nodded and bowed. "Yes, and I apologize for keeping this secret from my two friends."
"You don't have to apologize," Uraraka comforted. "It's not that big of a deal to us."
Iida sat up straight and smiled.
The moment was interrupted by a loud, blaring sound. It reverberated all along inside the cafeteria. Izuku put his hands to his ears to try and deafen the alarm. The students looked around wildly to find out what was going on.
"Waring! Waring! Level 3 security breach detected! Waring! Waring!" An automated voice blared over the loudspeaker.
"What's a Level 3 security breach?!" A student shouted.
"It means someone broke through the gate!" An older student answered. "We're under attack!"
With that, panic broke out. Students were rushing to find any exit. Tables were overturned, and kids were pushed down in the rush.
Izuku, Uraraka, and Iida were all pushed to a wall in the ensuing panic. Uraraka managed to grab on a ledge of a window and pull herself up. She gasped.
"Guys, look!" She cried out.
Iida made his way up to the window and helped Izuku as well. Outside, the door wasn't being sieged by supervillains. Instead, a crowd of reporters were banging on the door.
"It's just the media!" Uraraka elaborated.
"How are we going to tell that to everyone else?!" Izuku asked.
The three tried to make their own strategies before Iida's eyes shined with a plan.
"There!" Iida pointed with Izuku's and Uraraka's heads followed. "The emergency exit sign! If one of us can get up there, we can alert the rest of the student body! How strong are your voices?!"
"I think you're the loudest one out of us," Uraraka noted. "You're our best bet."
Iida nodded and turned to Izuku.
"Midoriya, can you move me with your Quirk?"
"I can try."
Izuku focused his Quirk on Iida. However, the constant noise and alarms messed with his concentration, and Iida barely got a foot off the ground.
"I can't!" Izuku admitted with despair. "There's too much noise for me to concentrate!"
Iida turned to Uraraka. She nodded, already getting the gist of Iida's plan. She slapped him, connecting all five fingers. With that, Iida began to float off the ground. He then maneuvered up the wall, before leaping off it. He sailed through the room with Uraraka keeping a steady watch over him. As he was above the sign, Uraraka pressed her fingers together, letting Iida drop on top of it.
Iida turned to face the crowd.
"Everybody, calm down! We are not under attack! It is just the media!" Iida yelled.
Most of the crowd started to die down and look at Iida's frantic, stilted movements.
"This is not a Villain attack! It's just reporters who have gotten through the gate!" Iida continued. "Everybody form orderly lines and follow procedures! We are members of one of the most prestigious schools, and we should act like it!"
The crowd gradually calmed down and dispersed over time. Eventually, Izuku, Uraraka, and Iida all made their way back to their homeroom. It turned out that a majority of the student body had given Iida the nickname of "Emergency Exit" for his actions during the break-in. If Iida was embarrassed by it, he didn't show it.
"Well, that was wild," Uraraka commented. "At least we learned a limitation of your Quirk, Deku."
"Yeah," Izuku scratched the back of his head. "I never thought how much concentration my Quirk required and how easily it can be broken. I mean, I've read up on Pros with telekinetic Quirks and someofthemmentionedhavingtroublewithconcnetraionifthereistoomuchstimuli-."
"Deku, you're mumbling again."
"Sorry. Uraraka, you, um, you did really well floating Iida without getting nauseous."
Urarka smiled. "Compared to all those robots in the enternace exam, Iida's a lightweight."
The two lightly giggled at that before the door opened to reveal Aizawa. The Eraser Hero moved to his desk.
"So," Aizawa began. "Lunch period was a bit more exciting today than usual."
The class looked on for updates.
"It seems that there was a momentary lapse in UA's security." Aizawa continued. "We are looking into it and are taking measures to prevent another situation like this. As for the reporters, they will be hit with trespassing charges, as well as strongly worded messages advising them to not be anywhere UA's campus for the rest of their careers."
While this did bring some assurance to the students, it still didn't answer the question most held in their throats.
"Despite today's interesting event, we will not close school early."
A decent amount of audible groans echoed in the classroom.
"Quit whining," Aizawa ordered. "You're all students of UA and are expected to handle certain situations like this at least once during your time here. As for now, if anyone doesn't have any other questions, prepare for your next period."
Izuku's hand shot up. Aizawa turned to him.
"Midoryia?"
Izuku stood up, trying to find the courage in public speaking.
"Aizawa, sir," Izuku gulped. "I want to resign as Vice-Representative and give that role to Iida."
A few gasps rose up but were quickly silenced.
"And your reasoning is?" Aizawa raised an eyebrow.
"During the break-in at lunch, Iida took charge." Izuku explained. "He was the one who came up with the plan. He was the one who calmed everyone down. And he got everyone to follow procedure. I could barely do anything, while Iida took control of the situation. I believe Iida is better qualified as Vice-Representative than I am. But I won't force this on Iida if he doesn't want it."
Iida stood up, emotion twitching on his face, and bowed.
"Midoriya, I would be honored to accept such a responsibility," Iida answered with the utmost seriousness. He then turned to Aizawa. "If Aizawa-sensei allows it, that is."
Aizawa shrugs. "Fair enough. Iida, congratulations, you're the new Vice-Representative."
A crowd of cheers rang inside the classroom. Several kids were chanting "Emergency Exit!" in admiration. Iida waved, slightly overwhelmed by the positive reception.
"Iida, I look forward to working with you." Yaoyorozu said.
"As do I, Class Representative." Iida answered.
"With that all out of the way, everyone, get ready for your next class." Aizawa said. "Iida, Yaoyorozu, you two will have to stay later to learn about your new duties."
And the rest of the day continued as normal.
Nezu stared at the screens, his beady eyes taking in every angle. He was going over the security recordings during the media break in. Nezu knew that any reporter would not likely have a Quirk needed to get through UA's defenses. Still, he needed to check. Someone got through his walls, and he needed to find out who.
He checked camera after camera, looking for anyone suspicious. One camera kept track of the crowd of reporters at all times. Nezu switched cameras till he found one that focused on a man with a hood over his head standing next to a wall. Recognizing that this man wasn't a part of the group of reporters, Nezu kept an eye on him. Eventually, the footage showed the man approaching the wall of UA's gate. There, he pressed his hand against it.
The wall decayed in real time as the man removed his hand. As the hole got larger and the decay slowed to a stop, the man walked away from the camera. Speeding up the footage, Nezu found where one of the reporters noticed the hole and the rest followed. From there, the man rejoined as part of the crowd before splitting off on his own. Nezu followed this stranger's path before the man fell out of the camera's view.
Nezu checked all of the cameras, trying to find their mysterious intruder. His search eventually found the man inside one of the stairwells. Nezu used the cameras to follow the man's path to a section of the various teachers' offices.
It was in a near barebones office where Nezu found the man. The intruder looked at one of the filing cabinets before fishing inside his jacket. He pulled out two surgical gloves and put them on each hand. The man then rummaged through the cabinet, trying to find whatever he was looking for.
His search stopped at a folder. The image was too far away for Nezu's eyes to decipher, but it apparently held something to the man. The man dug through the folder before pulling out a piece of paper. Once again, the paper was too far away to read, and Nezu silently cursed himself over his inability to get a clearer resolution.
The man held the paper with three fingers in one hand. He dug out a phone in the other. The man eventually opened the camera app and took photos of the paper. He then pocketed the phone before placing the paper back in the folder and closing the cabinet. He took off the glove on his right hand before digging out his phone and sending a text.
The man removed the left glove and shook his hands before a vortex appeared. The man stepped inside and vanished with the portal closing behind him.
Nezu distanced himself from the screens, processing what he saw. A man with a powerful Quirk used the media as a distraction to sneak inside and take pictures of UA documents.
Nezu focused his enhanced intellect, brought on by his High Specs Quirk, to analyze what he witnessed. First, the man's Quirk was the ability to decay at least inorganic matter by touch. This was evident in the new hole in UA's gate. Second, the man's Quirk most likely relies on either by all five fingers touching the object or skin contact. The surgical gloves plus the fact that the intruder never touched anything with all five fingers besides the wall gave credence to that. And lastly, the intruder was not doing this alone. The portal must be the work of another person's Quirk. Plus, the man was able to avoid most of the cameras while navigating UA's grounds. This unsettled Nezu. Could UA have a traitor in their ranks? It was too early to call just yet.
Nezu clicked his claws together. Despite his smiling face, he was grimacing. Someone was targeting UA, or the Hero community at large. This infiltration wasn't the main event, it was leading up to something bigger. Something organized. But who was the mastermind? Nezu didn't know, and it intrigued him.
Nezu was now in a game of strategy with an unknown opponent. He could make a move early, but would it force his opponent to try something more dangerous. A Villain wanted something on that document. Student files? Teacher files? Academic files? Nezu didn't know yet.
Yet, yet, that was the word of the day. Nezu couldn't make a move, yet. He didn't know his opponent, yet. The principal's tail twitched with worry. Should he do nothing in order to draw out his mystery opponent, even if it could endanger hundreds of students and faculties?
Then again, his higher ups would want him to save face. The Hero Commission wouldn't want their top school to be shown vulnerable. That some Villain can easily break into the most prestigious Hero school in Japan. While Nezu understood the human need to not show fear, his animalistic side balked at it. Taking precautions was necessary. You couldn't hide behind a strong persona as a predator comes ripping for your throat. You needed to escape and make plans.
Still, Nezu already knew the answer. UA would continue as normal while they rebuilt their defenses. It didn't sit well with the principal, but he knew he had to bide his time.
"Still," Nezu said to himself, shaking his head. "I just can't shake the feeling that this isn't going to turn out well."
And that is it for this chapter. Thank you to everyone reading this and all the new followers who have joined. Sorry updates have been slow. School has been a never-ending slog for me.
During my time on here, I've had numerous comments across multiple stories. Most of them were positive, some were quizzical, and some were just demands for more. Now, I'm not saying that I never had a negative comment that criticized my writing. I've had a few, and I have learned from them.
During Issue 6's release, I got a slew of comments from Guest, who had some choice words about how my story was going. I want to thank that Guest because I get to do a Dear Negative Reader moment.
Or the Author going one by one and answering comments and complaints. So let's do it, shall we?
Ch 1: I feel like All Might is the type of hero who can't let someone die on his watch. Think of when Peter Parker rushes in to save the girl from the burning building in Spider-Man 2. Given that most Pro's at the scene were busy with crowd control and waiting on someone with a better Quirk to show up, I think All Might would eventually tell himself, "If I don't, who will?" All Might can't standby when he has the power to help someone. So, while the Sludge Villain rampages longer than in canon and Bakugo gets injured afterwards, All Might would have eventually pulled himself up by boots and saved Bakugo.
Ch 2: On the subject of powers, it is stated in the movie that the boys' telekinesis works like a muscle. You have to build it up to make it stronger. While we don't know the exact timeframe between them getting their powers and the baseball test, we do know it is relatively recent. When Andrew catches the ball in mid-air, we can see blood start to slowly run down his nose. Think of it like you suddenly have legs. You can't walk yet because your legs haven't built up the strength to do it on their own. You might stand up a little before falling back down. Think of Izuku's development of his powers like a person who starts out crawling to someone who sprints marathons.
Ch. 3.1: Some of the comments are upset that I gave One for All to Mirio, thinking that he's going to lose it to Overhaul. The truth is that this story won't be sticking by canon's events by the time that happens. Sure, it looks that way now, but the time we get to Overhaul, Eri, and Mirio, things won't exactly be the same.
Ch 3.2: I am going to respectfully disagree with your opinion. Like I said in the chapter, I find stories where Izuku has to adapt to MHA's events with a different powerset to be interesting. It forces the author to think of different ways to write events that would seem familiar to the reader. Plus, I'm just not a fan of stories where Izuku has a Quirk and One for All. It seems like stacking the deck in Izuku's favor, and I think we can agree we like to see the cinnamon bun struggle every once in a while.
Ch 5: I'm sort of lost on the wording on this comment, but I think I get the gist. You believe that if power corrupts someone, they were always evil to begin with. There is some logic in this story's case. After all, All Might is a Physical God and uses his powers to exclusively help people. But the point is that the line is delivered by Aizawa, who least knows about who Izuku is as a person. Bear in mind, Izuku's power breaks some of the laws that the residents of MHA know about powers. Aizawa does have a point of not fully trusting a teenager that has potentially limitless power. One of the points I try to make with this story is how power can affect you, and how you can control your own power.
Ch 6: While I have nothing against Midnight and Present Mic as characters, do keep in mind that I am writing this through character perspectives, mainly Izuku's. Izuku is a teenager who, while an absolute Hero fanboy, also has his personal frustrations. I try and take my own school experiences and apply it to this story to give off a sense of realism. While I never had superpowered celebrities teach at my school, I did have teachers that I didn't hate, but irritated me during class and weren't my favorites.
And to the guest asking about pairings, most likely Uraraka and Izuku. Call me basic, but I'm not going to delve super deep into their romance.
With that all out of the way, I want to thank you for your support. It's been incredible to me. I think this is now my highest rated story. So, please favorite, follow, and leave comments if you want to. They're always helpful.
I think that's everything for now. See ya next time!
