Blake pov

I wake up about an hour before the party. Thankfully, my parents aren't home to see my bruises or black eye. I shower and do my usual routine before I get a text from Sam telling me the party is about to start.

I would show up right on time, but since it was my first party here and I wanted to make an impression, I figured showing up a little late would make me look like I did this sort of thing a lot before I moved here.

If I showed up early or on time, I'd probably look like a try hard.

I eat some oatmeal then brush my teeth before heading over around fifteen minutes after the scheduled start time.

Kyler's jeep is parked in front of the house and I just roll my eyes. I did not want to hang with them anymore, but if I wanted a shot with Sam, I'd probably have to play nice with them for now.

"Hey, there he is!" A bunch of voices say along with a bunch of typical greetings.

I glance around. The guys are in the pool while Kyler and Rory sit by the edge. Kyler glares at me with burning hatred. Wonder what his problem is.

Authors note: Kyler is even madder at Blake in this story because Kyler likes Sam and Blake hung out with her alone this time instead of Moon.

"Blake, you made it!" Sam says excitedly when she walks up to me.

I subtly check her out. She looks hot as hell in her red bikini. Yasmine gives me a dirty look and Moon grins brightly at me.

"Yeah, thanks for having me," I respond with a smile.

"So, want me to give you a house tour?" Sam offers pointing at her house.

Inside, my heart is doing backflips and punching my chest. She asked to give me a house tour! Does that mean she wants to be alone with me? Does that mean she's getting hot, or just being nice?

"S-sure, yeah, totally," I say.

She giggles and grabs my hand to lead me to where she wants to go. Moon chuckles at us and I don't catch a glimpse of the guys. I bet Kyler is still giving me the evil eye, but why?

Did he have a thing for Sam or not like me apologizing to Miguel? I doubt it's the latter because he left before that.

Sam takes me inside the pool house and lets go of my hand. She tells me her dad used to teach her karate here. Interesting. I'd never done karate in my entire life.

"I know it's a bit odd," Sam says with a slightly embarrassed grin.

"No it isn't. I think it's pretty cool," I respond, looking around the room.

"Okay, now you're just being nice," Sam teases.

"You complement hunting LaRusso?" I tease with a grin.

She bursts out laughing.

"Trust me, I wish I knew karate. Could've helped me out last night," I say taking off my shades and revealing my black eye.

"I'm sorry that happened to you Blake. At least the police got there," Sam says grabbing my arm tenderly.

"To be honest. It was our fault," I say looking down.

"What do you mean?" She asks sounding slightly concerned.

I sigh.

"Kyler was beating up on the kid who outed us for being underage. He shoved him against the hobo's car. I don't get why he even cared, the car was a piece of shit anyway, but he stood up and started yelling at us. Kyler and the guys started insulting him and Kyler even shoved him, then he just snapped and stared beating us up," I say shrugging.

"Wow, that's…," Sam responds sounding unsure how to respond.

"Sam, you can't tell anyone I told you that. They'll think I'm some sort of snitch. Just please, keep it under wraps for me," I plead with sincerity.

Sam sighs.

"Okay, fine," she responds folding her arms.

"Thank you. Also, has anyone said anything about, you know… last night," I ask awkwardly and kick myself mentally.

What kinda question was that dumbass?! You just sounding like a dipshit weirdo! Now, it WILL make things awkward. Nice going Murphy.

Sam's eyes go wide and her cheeks redden. Definitely out of embarrassment and nothing else.

"Just Moon. Why, is there a problem?" Sam asks looking worried.

"No, no, no, not at all. It's just, I don't know… nothing. I was just curious," I stammer.

"Well, yeah. It's not awkward unless you make it awkward, right," she stammers then chuckles slightly.

I gaze into her beautiful blue eyes. My eyes drift down to her lips for a split second and I swear she does the same. She hasn't backed away. Alright, you can do this Murphy, just go for it! If it goes south, we'll you don't even like these guys anyway.

I walk up to her slowly and she looks into my eyes.

"Well, what if it didn't have to be awkward," I whisper warmly.

She walks a bit closer and our faces are inches apart. However, the door bursts open and none other than Brucks is standing there. Sam and I back away instantly.

We're we about to… KISS?!

Brucks featured light up and he points at us open mouthed.

"Woah! Did I catch y'all in the middle of some tonsil hockey?! Oh shit! Sorry to cock block you like that man!" Brucks bellows very loud and obnoxiously.

Sam and I immediately begin protesting frantically. Brucks runs out into the yard and begins yelling gibberish.

"Son of a bitch," I whisper to myself and we run out into the yard.

"Nothing happened! We were literally just talking!" I yell as everyone cheers for us.

"Yeah, talking with your dick!" Brucks yells to Kyler and they both laugh obnoxiously, but I can see the anger in Kyler's features.

Sam and I glance around anxiously. She gives me a quick apologetic look. I do the same. Nothing fucking happened (even though I really wanted something to,) but still, I wasn't about to get humiliated.

"Nothing happened guys!" I yell.

"Whatever dawg, sure," Kyler taunts.

Rory finally decides to change the topic by suggesting we play some pool basketball.

"I'm in," I say and hop into the water.

Sam pov

I'm hyperventilating a little and go to sit with Yasmine and Moon at the poolside. What the hell was that?! Blake and I didn't do anything. Well, we might have almost, but we didn't! Plus, we've known each other for a day, there's no way in hell he likes me. As much as I wanna kiss him, it'd be way to fast.

"Wow, Sam, what a downgrade," Yasmine mocks with her bitchy smile.

I glare at her and she laughs.

"Sam, you dirty girl," Moon teases more jokingly.

"Nothing happened!" I snap.

"Relax Sam. We're messing with you. We know you'd never go near Freddy Kruger junior. Plus, Kyler's been eye banging you all day," Yasmine remarks in disgust.

"Okay, that's a big exaggeration. He only has three scars. Looks like he got clawed by a tiger," Moon says.

"You're defending him Moon?" Yasmine remarks in disgust.

I tune them out as I watch the game. I consider going to talk to the other girls at the party who I don't know as well, but decide to just focus on the guys playing pool basketball and the others watching.

Kyler and Blake are playing rather aggressively. Kyler keeps cheap shotting him and Blake elbows him in the face and taunts him, but I can't hear them. Kyler was a wrestler and I didn't want Blake to get in yet another fight. Seeing him hurt like that hurt me to.

Finally, the game ends and the guys get out to hang with us. We start filling up solo cups with beer and mixers. However, all hell breaks loose when Kyler bumps into Blake and causes him to drop his drink.

"What's your problem dude?" Blake asks annoyed.

Kyler sizes him up and gets in his face, but Blake doesn't look scared at all.

"You wanna know my problem newbie? It's you! We decided to let you in, but you're tryna act cooler than us. I saw you after we fought that bum chattin it up with Rhea! Then you decide to try and make moves on my girl!" Kyler yells and gestures to me.

I freeze for a second. What the fuck?! I was NOT Kyler's girl. Yeah we've been texting, but I'm not sure if I want to date him. He's cute and I'd probably would've said yes before I met Blake. I'm still not sure where that's gonna go, but I'm not Kyler's girl.

"Sam isn't your "girl,"" Blake yells back mockingly and makes quotes with his fingers.

"Oh really?" Kyler says challengingly.

He begins to walk closer to Blake.

"Yeah really!" Blake yells back.

I snort slightly at Blake's snappy response. Classic

"Hey guys! I caught ol Murphy chattin it up in the mini mart with the clerk. Saw you checking out his fat ass!" Kyler jabs and everyone gasps and bursts out laughing, but I'm disgusted.

It didn't take an idiot to know that was a lie. Unfortunately, most of the people here are idiots or just crave drama.

"What?" Blake says sounding completely confused and clueless.

"You know what else he told me? He said getting beaten up by the bum really turned him on," Kyler says and begins laughing.

Everyone makes grossed out noises and Blake's face begins to falter as he looks anxious at all the unwanted attention he's getting.

Observation one about Blake Murphy, he doesn't like being the center of attention and is a little shy. I'll be sure to make note of that later.

Authors note: this will be something Sam kinda keeps note of throughout the story. She seems very observational in the show about certain people and probably has certain traits she remembers. Just a nifty add on.

"Y'all really believe this crap?!" Blake asks gesturing to Kyler trying to sound casual.

I want to scream NO, but something stops me and I don't know what it is. Why can't Kyler just knock it off?

"Well, you did come from Texas," Yasmine remarks looking disgusted.

Blake makes a face at her.

"That literally makes no sense, at all!" Blake snaps at Yasmine who just shrugs.

"I wonder what you said to Sam, huh. "Hey, wanna know how I got these scars?"" Kyler remarks trying to mimic The Joker.

Blake's expression morphs from nervous to angry at Kyler's last remark. Blake glares into Kyler's smug face and Kyler sizes him up in response.

"What's the matter? Those scars make you retarded?!" Kyler remarks then shoves Blake who stumbles slightly.

"What?" I mutter to myself.

God, I felt like I was losing brain cells the more I listened to Kyler.

Kyler walks up to Blake who is still yet to respond. Just walk away, he's not worth it. Don't even give him the time of day. I'm silently hoping Blake will just somehow shrug it off, but my wishes go on deaf ears as whatever Kyler whispers in Blake's ear makes his eyes go ablaze with white hot fury and he reels back his fist.

"Oh no," I whisper to myself as Blake's fist smashes into Kyler's nose.

Kyler stumbles back in shock and checks his nose. Kyler looks to see blood on his fingers then his own face turns into that of anger.

"You're a dead man, freak," Kyler declares and decks Blake right back who falls to his side with a thud and a grunt.

Kyler grabs Blake and the two struggle. I'm panicking. This was NOT supposed to happen. What if my parents walked in on a FIGHT in our backyard? I'd be grounded until Christmas at the very least.

"STOP FIGHTING!" I try to yell over the cheering guys.

Thankfully, Moon is also yelling for Blake and Kyler to stop, but the guys are way louder. Yasmine and the other girls are just ignoring it.

The two guys are throwing punches wildly. Blake slams Kyler into the wall of our house and lands a few punches to the ribs, but Kyler picks him up and rag dolls him into the concrete besides the pool. They get into a lock again and Blake drives him back until the both fly into the pool.

"STOP! PLEASE STOP!" I beg to deaf ears.

Blake is getting drowned in the water as Kyler rapid fire punches all over his ribs while holding a struggling Blake under the water. He lifts Blake up for a second by the hair and he coughs wildly and gasps for air. Blake's nose and lip are gushing blood and he manages to elbow Kyler hard in the ribs.

As a result, Kyler dunks him back under. Blake's struggles slowly grow weaker and weaker. My throat is growing more and more dry as my protesting keeps failing.

"Screw this," I mutter to myself and take off my coverup.

If you want something done right, you've gotta do it yourself.

I'm gonna stop this fight, not only would I get into trouble if I didn't, but I wasn't about to let him keep hurting Blake. However, I'm frozen in terror because before I can leap into the pool, I hear a voice.

"Hey, what the hell's going on here?" The voice of my father rings out.

"Oh shit," I whisper wide eyed.

I'm rooted in place and can't move.

"All right, everyone get out of here right now!" He yells in anger and turns off the speaker.

I look around to see Blake scramble out of the pool and sprint right past my dad who doesn't even notice. I have to make sure he's okay.

"Blake wait!" I cry out following behind him, but he's long gone by the time I'm able to get the words out.

Dammit.

"I'm so sorry dad. I had no idea you'd be home so early," I say apologetically.

"It doesn't make a difference what time I get home Sam. You think we want a bunch of strangers in the backyard making a mess?" He remarks sounding irritated.

This gets on my nerves. These people are my friends. I'm a little grateful because Kyler let go of Blake in a rush to run off, but still.

"They're not strangers, they're my friends," I defend.

"Yeah, some friends," my dad remarks disapprovingly.

What did he want from me? I was so tired of being a nerd. I loved Aisha, but I wanted to be popular and spend my weekends going to parties and dates with guys.

I storm into the house when my dad starts yelling about the guys wearing his swimsuits. They all forgot to bring their own except for Blake and I didn't know what to do. I storm straight to my room and punch my pillow in frustration.

Everything was going so great today. Why did my dad have to ruin it? I feel even worse because Brucks totally ruined the moment between Blake and I and proceeded to spread lies. I mean we WEREN'T even doing anything. Just talking.

I mean maybe we might have kissed or something. I really wished we had, but we barely know each other. It's so unfair. I need to make sure he's okay.

I get out my phone and start texting Blake.
