Welcome back, everyone. Davaak is a character I had introduced back in "Melyk." I brought him back in order to have a sympathetic, heroic and non-cannibalistic Labinnac character. Enjoy and review.

An Unlikely Ally

Gard was about to set foot into the doorway, when he felt a pair of hands grab him by the shoulders and pull him away. When the owner of the hands stepped before him, the Old Savage found to his surprise that it was a Labinnac, one of the High Warlord's family. The charcoal skin, the red eyes, all that he was missing was the wings that caused him to resemble Mumm-Ra so greatly. What had happened to his wings, Gard could only wonder.

Though a member of the High Warlord's family, the Labinnac still greatly resembled others of his kind. His eyes were owl-like, he had large claws and his body looked emaciated, almost like that of a skeleton.

There was panic in the Labinnac's eyes as he exclaimed: "Non! N'entrez paz! C'est la mort!" Gard did not need to speak the language to know that the Labinnac was warning him not to walk through the doorway. Still, he wished to know the name of the Labinnac who unexpectedly turned ally. Bringing a hand to his chest, Gard said his name. Nodding understandingly, the Labinnac placed a hand on his own chest and said: "Davaak!" Then throwing his hands skyward, Davaak began dancing, happily shouting: "Davaak! Gard! Davaak! Gard! Freres! Amis! Freres! Amis! Plus de conflit!"

His stoic expression cracking, Gard could not help but smile. An Evabon and a Labinnac, two age-old enemies now friends? He was not so sure they were friends yet, nor was he sure they were allies. All that he knew was that this member of the High Warlord's family was no danger.

Placing a hand on Davaak's shoulder, Gard pointed his axe at one of the moons of Third Earth and said: "Moon!"

Nodding his head, Davaak uttered: "Oui, oui! Lune est 'Moon'! Merveilleux! Merveilleux!" Then walking to a nearby tree, he pulled off some bark and said "Aliments! Aliments!" before placing a piece in his mouth and chewing happily.

Gard was amazed. A Labinnac who did not eat the flesh of other sentient species? Were he to report this in Wilusa, would anyone believe him?

Had this been the reason that Davaak had lost his wings? Then noticing a mark upon Davaak's chest, Gard could not help but wonder if the poor fellow was an outcast. His legs, his face both scar-covered. What had this poor fellow gone through at Karthage?

Pointing toward the doorway, Gard suddenly saw all joy leave the Labinnac's countenance. Shaking his head, Davaak walked over to a fallen tree branch and proceeded to make a torch out of it, shooting lightning out his fingertips just as Mumm-Ra could to bring fire to the branch, though the electricity seemed like a candle compared to the inferno that was Mumm-Ra's power.

With a somewhat resigned expression, Davaak stepped forward. It was clear to Gard that he had no desire to enter the doorway, but still he would.
