Into the Darkness

Entering the doorway with a torch to light their way, Gard of the Evabon and Davaak of the Labinnac both looked upon the images not only upon the walls, but upon the ceiling and floor of the dark corridor as well. They were images of atrocity, massacre and torture, images that were the stuff of nightmare, images that eventually turned into those of anguished, screaming faces.

Whatever the Statue was, whoever it was, it was no mere carving that had been hewn from the side of a cliff. It was anomalous and somehow evil. Had that always been the case, or had the Soul Stone somehow corrupted it, corrupted something that could not properly control its power? Could the stones such as the Eye of Thundera, the Spirit Stone and the Tech Stone truly do something such as that to those who were not able to control them? No, that could not have been the case. Something else must have been at work here, but what?

Suddenly, Davaak froze in his tracks and made a cry that sounded less like something a person would make and more like that a beast would when in pain. Gard followed his companion's gaze and saw in the distance a faintly glowing silhouette coming closer and closer.

The silhouette was humanoid in shape and red in colour with an angular head. Had Gard ever seen anything like it before? Never and he could only wonder if Davaak had, for his reaction suggested that the Labinnac had.

What happened next puzzled Gard. After handing the Evabon the torch, the Labinnac proceeded to make a whistling sound, flap his arms and walk in a circle. Was this the reason that this member of the High Warlord's family had been treated thusly and had his wings torn from his body? Was he considered mad by their standards?

No, this was no fit of madness. Whatever that silhouette was, Davaak was attempting to ward it off, though Gard could hardly understand how whistling, flapping arms and walking in a circle would ever do any such thing.

When the silhouette did not cease getting closer, Davaak became more panicked. Taking Gard's axe from him, Davaak them proceeded to wave it back and forth. Only then did the silhouette stop and Gard did think that this horrible specter, whatever it was, seemed to become almost hesitant. When Davaak started walking forward, still waving the axe back and forth, Gard could see the silhouette began to step backward before ultimately vanishing.

"Pas un fouet, mais assez bon." Uttered Davaak once the silhouette had vanished. Handing the axe back to Gard, the Labinnac took the torch and stared into the darkness

Approaching his companion, Gard pointed at his good eye and then out into the darkness, asking what Davaak saw. Davaak could do naught but stare at Gard with a look of uncertainty. Nodding his head, Gard gripped his axe tightly and strode forward, Davaak soon following after.
