What if a smaller Colonial ship survived the Fall of the Colonies? Follow the Centaur Class Chiron
Chapter 16
Bacrita Sector
Basestar Delta6 Bridge
The list of what the Chiron can do and it's officers isn't that useful. Commander Jasper has been in the navy for over 20 years. Served on smaller ships. Major Marton has been in the navy for 25 years. Good reviews other than notes about how he does not appear interested in independent command. LT. Anders was due to report to War College for advanced training and promotion to a Battlestar. LT Swanson was a former PO that got promoted to an officer for bravery for saving 8 people after a Raptor crash caused a fire on the Styx. There might be something here but I am not seeing it.
"Brother Doral I would like you to go over what we know about the Chiron and Kestrel's officers. Maybe there is something there to give us a clue" said Agios. Best to pawn this boring crap off and Dorals are always suck ups to the person in charge.
David Doral said, "Yes Brother. I will look over this data. We have not yet heard back from our Heavy Raiders we might find some evidence of the humans."
"Perhaps but we need to figure out what to do if we do not find them" said Agios. "I will look over the information we have on Maxon Mining and see if anything helps us out. I am going to go to my quarters."
ooooooooooo
Agios was glad to be back in his quarters. No one else seemed to notice but the lighting on this ship is "off". Far to bright in some areas and very dark in others. Yes the Centurions can see just fine in the dark but the Significant Eight can not. Why do we insist that some more diffused lighting would be a bad thing? Enough letting my mind wander.
What do I know? I joined Maxon Mining about 7 months ago. They were hiring and I was supposed to keep an eye on them being an outer colony. Like the #4 that was on New Hadrian I just thought that when The Return happened that I would be downloaded back to my Brothers and Sisters. The people on the Respite were standoffish at first and did seem paranoid. Lot of complaints about the Virgon SDF and how Rollins Mining was trying to cost them their jobs. The miners who visited the Respite for R&R were looked at as a bit of a pain causing trouble for the people who lived on the Respite and jokes about "Visiting Deck 7" were made but again nothing obvious from my admittedly low level position.
Let's look over the tax and legal records from Virgon for MM. Most of this is really boring and I will have Doral look it over. Hmm that is interesting. Most of Maxon Mining's earning came from selling tyleum ore and bulk metals to the Colonies (of course) with an occasional sale to Rollins Mining in Ofis A. However there was a sale of refined tyleum to another mining corporation in the nearby Nereus Sector.
The Apovlita nicknamed "the lita" was always joked about being a punishment duty even though the pay was much higher and not something that the Maxons would usually risk sending away. Well it's a lead if nothing else comes up.

Nereus Sector
System 21496 Isis Mining Main Base
"Well Brother this system seems even more of a waste of time" said Leonard Dyo. "Not sure your missing ships will be here either."
Agios wondered again why he bothered to bring his fellow Number 2 with him. Dyo had not exactly impressed anyone. Still better than leaving him with Cavil.
"I am not so sure. Yes the Heavy Raiders did destroy the main base but I would like a count of the destroyed ships. Maybe some ships have escaped. Also we need to investigate the sector" said Agios. Even if he isn't able to find the Chiron someone needs to check this sector and being shown to do something might keep Cavil at least somewhat mollified. And if it is fated for him to find the Chiron God will provide a way.

"Brother Agios one of the Raiders have picked up a few human ships. It does not appear to be who we are looking for would you like us to investigate further" asked Doral.
Agios was trying to decide if Doral was stupid or just providing information. Doral seemed to do nothing unless being told. Give him a task and he would probably get it done competently and without the flightiness that some of his "siblings" had. However Doral would also do nothing if not told. "By all means Brother. Let us proceed to this system."

System 23567
Agios was actually impressed with this Heavy Raider. These humans were hiding and their set up seemed better than you would expect from them only being here 10 days or less. Noticing these ships was either luck or more skill than the Heavy Raiders usually showed. Also the Heavy Raider appeared to have not been noticed. Time to launch the Raiders and deal with these humans.
"Brother Dyo if you would tell the Raiders to proceed" said Agios.
With the 200 Raiders launched the 4 human ships did attempt to flee but it was far too little too late. Two ships were destroyed instantly and the other two were surrounded. Let's see what we can find out.
"Colonial ships. Shut down your engines immediately and do not resist when boarded" said Agios over the wireless.
"Cylon ship what assurances do we have that we will not be mistreated" one of the Colonial ships asked.
"None this is your last warning" said Agios in response. It would depend on many factors and these humans are in no position to bargain.
"Brother Agios I just noticed something. One of the ships we captured match the records for one of the ships that attacked Ofis B last month" said Doral.
That is interesting is not exactly pertinent. Still another line of questions for the prisoners.
"Brother Dyo I would like you to be in charge of questioning our guests" said Agios.
"Yes Brother" said Dyo.
oooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Leonard Dyo did not like questioning the prisoners and felt that Brother Agios had assigned him this task as a punishment. Agios never came down to talk to the humans. 43 people and they all had the same basic story. Time to let Agios know what was found out and then deal with the humans.
"Dyo you are saying that this group of humans were hired as muscle by the Rollins Consortium but they screwed up and hurt some people so they decided to lay low for a while?" The petty disputes of humans and how they could make as many cubits as possible is something only God can understand. "And that they bought supplies from the Isis corporation from time to time" said Agios. A bit ironic that the fuel used to attack Ofis B was sold by Ofis B but fate does weird things.
"Yes Agios that is what I have found. They don't seem to know anything of value. Nothing about any the Chiron, Maxon Mining, or any other Colonial ships" said Dyo. "What do you want to do with our prisoners?"
"Space them" said Agios. That is the punishment that the Colonies had for pirates and he didn't see any reason to do anything else.
"By your command" said Dyo in a sarcastic tone.

Author's Notes
I wanted to clear up a few things in this chapter. First the Chiron has one ship making tyleum fuel and another to deliver the tyleum. The Apovlita usually keeps it refueling tanks pretty low so if there is an emergency they can refuel another ship but does have the ability to hold more. It's dangerous though so the crews get a higher pay. Maxon Mining just refuels itself (they didn't trust anyone else and in the long term it's cheaper). When another corporation contacted them and offered a bonus for a load of tyleum fuel they jumped at the chance. Isis didn't ask too many questions and the pirates didn't want to share more information.
Also I originally had a vague plan for some pirates but decided to not use them. However they did feel to me a bit as a "loose thread" so I wanted to officially write them out of the story.
Brother David Doral was the skinjob in charge of the Basestar Delta6 (the Cylons aren't that imaginative) but when Agios was sent to deal with the Chiron he stayed to assist Agios. This Doral is even more "dull" than the others but give him a task and he will do it. Also I kind of always felt the Dorals were a bit unfairly treated in the show. Did they suck or did they suck up to the boss who was well Cavil? Would a Doral without a sarcastic sexist jackwagon as his direct superior be any different?
Thank you for reading and any questions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
