What if a smaller Colonial ship survived the Fall of the Colonies? Follow the Centaur Class Chiron
Chapter 19
Cora Sector "Darkspace"
Day 23
Raptor 2
"and with the last ship total's in Jessi Maxon has been confirmed as Governor of the fleet" said the wireless.
LT. Geri Casar (Silk) said, "thank the gods that crap is over. Even with end of the worlds politicians have to have elections. Did you vote Turtle?"
"Frak no. That dick from the Ovgigo thought because he had the prettiest ship we would vote for him and Maxon is a control freak" said Ensign Laura Wisohi (Turtle).
"That 'control freak" is our leader" joked Casar. "Raptor 4 are you ready to jump? There's a lot more nothing to go and see." The Cadmus sector had been a bust. No ships Colonial or Cylon (which probably is a good thing for the second). Other than finding some ice to top off their tanks nothing of interest in the whole Sector. And this new Sector is even more of a backwater.
"Raptor 2 we are ready to depart" replied Marbles.
"Chiron Raptor 2 and 4 is ready to jump to the coordinates" said Casar.
"Good luck Raptors 2 and 4" replied back Major Limaki and with that both Raptors hit the jump button.

Cora Sector System 15217
Ensign Cory Meyers (Kye) was thinking about the last few weeks. At first he resented being "demoted" to the Raptors especially as ECO but honestly this fits my temperament better. Only 3 systems more to go before heading home and the next system I get to be in the pilots seat. "Sir I am getting a slight trace of something behind that large asteroid."
LT. Taylor Joseph (Marbles) looked over his screen. There might be something over there. More to the point there is nothing dangerous that they can sense. "Let's go check it out Kye. Keep your eyes peeled for anything." They waited the minute to clear the asteroid and then "Holy Shit is that what it looks like?"
Frak everything looked dead but this is a much bigger find then they expected. "Ensign launch passive drones and then hit the 4 ships with Dradis for 30 seconds and then we are heading back to the Chiron."
Chiron Officers Briefing Room
The Senior Officers were in the briefing room along with the two Raptor crewmembers. Major Lamiki and Captain Anders were rechecking the Dradis images from the Raptor. "Sir from what we have here it appears to be a Mercury class Battlestar and three Cylon Baseships have been destroyed. Small craft are harder to get clear numbers on but I would guess over 50 Vipers and around 700 Raiders were destroyed" said Major Limaki.
"Do we know which ship it was" asked Jasper. Damn it she was hoping find one of the Battlestar Groups out here to link up with.
"No sir not from the readings we have" said Limaki.
"Next question. Do we have any idea if the Cylons know about this" asked Jasper. There might be some useful supplies to salvage from the Mercury or even maybe Cylon ships.
"Sir uncertain but I would lean towards yes. From the one battle we had and the sensor logs we got from the Aglaea the Cylons in general carry 200 Raiders and 30 Heavy Raiders per Basestar. They could in theory pack in more but we should be cautious. I suspect that one or more Basestars survived the battle" said Limaki.
"Here is what we will do. We are gong to jump the fleet 2 light years from this asteroid belt" said Jasper. If the Cylons found them that far away the gods wanted them dead anyway and this would allow many more Raptor flights to survey the wreckage. "I want the Raptors checking on the drones and seeing what we can maybe grab. Before we jump the Libran Dreams or any other ships in I want to know exactly what we are going after." Probably won't find anything on the Battlestar. Whoever the Commander had been they had rammed a Cylon ship almost obliterating both and the rads are off the scale.

The last 12 hours had been very hectic. The Raptors had been exploring the area where the battle had happened. "No signs of the Toasters yet sir" said Major Limaki. "The Rycon along with ramming the Toaster ship must have got hit by over a dozen nukes. Even if there is something useful it's way too hot to send people in to look."
"Admiral Kronus was always a tough old bastard. Contact all the other flotilla leaders we will have a service for the Rycon at 0800 tomorrow" said Jasper.
"Yes sir. Did you want to proceed with the salvage operation" asked Lamiki. There were no undamaged Vipers or Raptors but still parts are parts.
"Yes we need to grab what we can. Contact the LD and tell Anders to be ready to proceed at 1000 tomorrow" said Jasper.

Day 24
Libran Dreams 11:15.
The crew was subdued after the service for the Rycon. That another Battlestar was destroyed with what appears to be all hands lost was another blow to the Navy. Still the Rycon had fought hard and was an example of what the Colonial Navy could do against the Cylons.
Things were going slowly but 4 heavily damaged Vipers and 2 Raptors had been loaded up. They should be done in another 5 hours.
"Sir Raptor 3 report that they are headed in to deposit another Viper" said Technician Suter.
"Thank you Tech" said Anders.
"Cylon ship!" yelled Suter. "Missiles fired."
"Order all Raptors to jump and jump the ship" ordered Anders.

Basestar Beta3
Day 19
Justin Agios had lost the Chiron and it's fleet. They had cleared out some Colonial outpost that had been abandoned but no sign of any other humans since the incident with the pirates. Clearing Sectors was boring but now he had been ordered to the Cora Sector to talk to one of the "Cavils". The Ones are always difficult but the line that have taken the last name Cavil are somehow worse.
"Brother Agios I would like your help to find the missing Colonial ships. Hopefully this time you will not lose them" said Tomas Cavil.
"Brother Tomas. I will do my best to find the Colonial ships in this area" said Agios. That somehow 'Brother' Tomas had with five Basestars attacked the Rycon and then lost three Basestars and taken major damage on the other two and somehow lost almost all of his Raiders while losing the 3 ships that the Rycon was protecting and now he felt the need to mock me?
"Brother Tomas are we certain we do not have an agent aboard those ships" asked Leonard Dyo. No one knew exactly how it worked but at times a vague "sense of direction" would come across the Significant Eight from their siblings from the same model line. It was far less certain than the tracker but it had been shown to be useful.
"No the Six who was onboard the Rycon was destroyed with the Rycon. Unfortunately her download did not work properly. Her information gained when on the Rycon is fragmented" said a Six.
"Sorry sister. Hopefully God will bring back her memories" said Agios. All of the Significant Eight had a base "history" on download but the memories and experiences after that download is what made them unique. All of the Significant Eight feared losing that individuality.
"Yes I certainly hope so" said Cavil in his way that you could not figure if he was mocking you or not. "Brother Agios I am going to return my ships to the Colony for repairs. Is there anything you need before I depart?"
Agios was again uncertain of Cavil's tone. Still maybe the offer is genuine. "If we could keep your Heavy Raptors" asked Agios. Or at least the ones that you hadn't pissed away. "I have found they are good for exploring systems."
"If you wish Brother" said Cavil clearly not caring about the Heavy Raptors. With that Agios and Dyo started to walk to their Heavy Raptor.
Basestar Delta6
Agios was starting to question some things. Of the 6 models of the Significant Eight on the Delta6 (luckily I don't have a One to deal with) only Agios and Dyo had been "outside" and dealt with the Colonials. Brother David was "born" just before the attack on the Colonies and the others were born afterwards when more Colonial ships escaped than the Cavils had planned for. That the "Cavils" seemed more experienced than the other lines seemed more than a coincidence. Still time to do our duty.
"Brother David the 3 ships we are looking for now are all cargo ships" said Agios. "Take the specifications of those ships and set up a search pattern for the Cora and surrounding sectors. Look for anything that might be considered a point of interest." These 3 ships do not have the capability of doing much more than running but still best to find them.
"Yes Brother Agios. I will take care of it" said David Doral.
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
"Brother Agios we have found something. A Heavy Raptor found something in System 15217" said Brother David.
Agios looked over the notes. System 15217? Wait that is where the Rycon was destroyed. "What did we find there" asked Agios.
"A Colonial ship and Raptors appear to salvaging from the Rycon's debris" said David.
So Cavil didn't even follow "his" own orders to make sure everything is destroyed? Probably thought it was beneath him. Agios looked over the sensor data that was brought back. Wait is that the Libran Dreams? Destiny is looking out for him. "Do we know if the Heavy Raider was noticed" asked Agios.
"We do not believe so" said David Doral.
"Brother this is our chance" said Dyo.
"Yes make sure that the Raiders are ready to go" said Agios. "We will jump in immediately."
Author notes
So I kind of have to explain some Cylon things here. The Cylons seemed to grow as people on the show. How much was their experiences gained with people and how much was time is not certain. Boomer and Athena certainly seemed more like people than most but also Grace Park was a major character so "not sure but leaning towards experience equals growth." The "Naked Boomers" on the Kobol Basestar seemed naive as frak just sitting there and waiting to be nuked. That is also where I am getting my "brother" cult vibe that I am trying to show.
Also the show added Cavil and D'Anna Biers later. Those two are FAR more snarky than the others especially Cavil so trying to fit early BSG with "The Plan" BSG is kind of difficult.
Now can models sense other models? No. But the biggest issue I have had with Battlestar Galactica is "why didn't the Colonials just jump a bunch of times in random directions and just lose the Cylons?" If the Galactica and it's fleet jumped 100 times about 700 light years away from the Colonies than realistically how could the Cylons ever find them? Needs of the plot and all is the answer but I am trying to put a "Watsonian" answer not a "Doylist" answer in here. So the Cylons on the Basestars in this story get a vague "over that way" feeling. The Galactica's fleet and the Pegasus did have Skinjobs. The Chiron has no Skinjobs (the Chiron doesn't know for sure that Skinjobs are real and certainly doesn't know they don't have any) but now Agios has a clue where the Chiron is. And being a Leoben he can now be all "fate and destiny will of God" and use that to refocus his efforts to find the Chiron.
The Rycon was one of the "missing" six Battlestars. We know what happened with two of them (or I am sure you can guess) but I am trying to close out some dangling lose threads here. Also I needed Agios to find the Chiron again and this seemed a way to do both.
Thank you all for reading. Any questions or comments are greatly appreciated.
