Battlestar Rycon

Deck Chief Ralston unlike many actually liked Patrol Duty on the Border Zone. First the higher tempo flight operations gave more time for training. Second since the Cylon War had never officially ended there was a pay bonus for being on the Border Zone. There was always the scuttlebutt that the brass would remove it but for now it worked out to 10% higher pay.
Dear gods is Technician Kerrigan a mess. First and this isn't her fault but she is too good looking. If two thirds of the men and a third of the women didn't act like frakking 14 year olds around her that would be nice. Again not her fault and her direct PO needs to get that crap under control now. To be fair Kerrigan is either oblivious or really good at ignoring how people react around her.
Still for the last couple hours she has been very distracted. Should go check and see what is going on.
"ATTENTION ALL HANDS BATTLESTATIONS" went over the PA.

"Everyone let's clear the deck. We will have Vipers and Raptors coming in hot be ready to refuel and reload" said Chief Ralston. He moved over to the LSO to see what he could figure out.
"Sir repeat that. You are saying to hold off launching any more Vipers and Raptors" said the LSO. "Yes sir."
The LSO looked pissed. 'What is going on' thought Ralston. If this is a Cylon or whatever attack why are we not launching all the Vipers? Now the weapons stopped firing? A couple of hits but with the shaking it does not appear to be serious. And now we have jumped? What about the Vipers and Raptors out there?

"Everyone here is what I have been told" Ralston had his entire deck crew gathered around. "Fleet Base Attila has also been attacked but we did pick up a messenger Raptor there. The Cylons attacked the Colonies yesterday. We have confirmed that the Colonies have all suffered massive nuclear strikes. At this time I do not have any more information."
Ralston gave the crew some time to process this. "If anyone is basic flight qualified they are to report to the new CAG."

"We need to pull the CNP program on all Vipers and Raptors we have left. Figuring out how to train the pilots to fly them without the CNP is the CAG's problem not yours Jenkins. Just get to work" said Ralston. Frakking idiot. 4 squadrons completely wiped out and he thought that the Vipers would fly like a brick without the CNP is the problem. Never mind apparently that the Cylons had hacked the entire Colonial Defense System. Technician Jenkins knows better than everyone else how critical the CNP is.
"Chief what can I do to help" asked Technician Kerrigan.
"Get started on the reserve Vipers. We can't afford any hangar queens" said Ralston. Kerrigan is possibly the biggest "book smart but no on hand skills" that Ralston had ever worked with in his career but Kerrigan was doing better than anyone else with the double shifts. She might be slow as in not having the experience but she doesn't make any mistakes from being tired. Thankfully the Rycon had the reserves along with the partial survivors of the last 2 squadrons. Still need to make sure everything works right as some flight school failure will need as little mechanical issues as possible.

The Commander had been hoping to pick up some Tyleum but the Cylons appear to have the same idea. One Basestar and 200 Raiders and Heavy Raiders showed that something was going on here.
"Everyone be ready for hot landings" said Ralston. That half the pilots had less than 10 days training before their first combat mission means that damage is very likely.
"Basestar destroyed! All crews ready for incoming Vipers" said the overhead system.
"51,52,53 that is all remaining Vipers" said the LSO.
'That is eleven Vipers lost' thought Ralston. Damage appeared to be light to medium. Probably not enough skill in the pilots to deal with heavy damage unfortunately.
"Alright people let's get the pilots out of their birds and get everything fixed up" said Ralston.
"Did Trio make it" asked Technician Kerrigan.
"Trio" was a former deckhand from Kerrigan's crew that had been promoted to being a Viper pilot.
"Sorry no" said the LSO.
'Frak. He was a good kid' thought Ralston. Kerrigan seemed to deflate when she heard the news.
"You OK Sarah" asked Ralston.
"Yes Chief" said Kerrigan.
Ralston didn't believe her but everyone was faking it anyway.

There was some good news from the last battle. Three Colonial cargo ships had been hiding and when the Cylons were destroyed they had contacted the Ricon. Also the pilots even with the losses seemed to be jelling together better.
Bad news was the the deck crew was taking the loss of John Tripps "Trio" really hard. Tripps was a popular member of the deck crew and when he went to be a pilot everyone was happy to see a "deck monkey" become an officer. Kerrigan seemed to be taking it harder. Maybe they had something going on or maybe it's just how she is processing everything. Need to keep an eye on her along with everyone else.

The last week they spent fixing up all damage from the battles and training the pilots. They could vaguely be described as squadrons now even if "Kicker" would have disagreed with that. Guess it doesn't matter since Kicker is dead along with her entire squadron. Still haven't heard what the plan is. Some people are saying we should run and find a new planet. Some are saying to return back to the Colonies and kill as many Toasters as possible before dying. Not sure what I prefer thought Ralston. Dang it why is Kerrigan acting squirrelly again?
"ATTENTION ALL PERSONNEL CYLON ATTACK INCOMING" said the PA.
"Frak that is 5 Basestars" said the LSO.
"All Vipers and Raptors launch. The Admiral is planning on giving the civies as much time as we can and then we will jump out of here" said the CAG.

Technician Sarah Kerrigan did not know who the old man was but the blond lady looked very familiar.
"Where am I and why the frak does she look like me" yelled Kerrigan.
"Calm down Sister you are home now" said her lookalike.
"Bullshit and how did we escape the Toasters?" Kerrigan had never expected to ever wake up again much less waking up naked in a bath tub with her clone and a guy who looks like a priest talking to her.
"How did you escape the Toasters" asked the old man.
"Yes the Cylons had us surrounded and everything was blowing up and the XO ordered us to brace for impact" said Kerrigan.
"Box her" said the old man.

Author Notes

I was going to make this a longer story and then got lazy. Since everyone dies anyway I just went to a two person POV story.
Chief Ralston is not an officer so his knowledge is not all knowing and the story is almost entirely from his POV.
The Vipers that didn't get blown up in the first battle were the ones that either hadn't launched yet or were in reserve status. Same thing with pilots plus some "you'll do in a pinch" pilots.
