Chapter 21
Chiron Pilot Briefing Room
Day 27
Major Limaki walked into his "old" briefing room. "At ease Warlock and Juno" he said. This was to let them now this was a "CAG" visit and not an XO visit.
"We need to go over a few things so you can let your pilots know what is going on" said Limaki. "First should be able to consistently make Viper ammunition so I want some live fire exercises put in place. It's not their fault but the Viper pilots are rusty and we will eventually run into the Cylons and I want them at top form. Also come up with a "Top Gun" prize."
"Second for now we are holding off on adding another Viper. With the 4 damaged Vipers we picked up we might be able to get 2 operational but it would deplete our spare parts below safe levels" said Limaki. "On that subject our 2 Raptor crew in training are going to be ready to take a few flights in a week or so."
"Now for you Juno I have an assignment from LT Drakos" said Limaki. "We are in the Prolmar Sector now and we are coming up on the edge of what we know anything about." What little that was. Some ship passing through 75 years ago and looking out a window at a nebula 20 lightyears away is what level of "knowledge" they have and now they will have less than that.

Day 38
"What surveying is so much worse. We jump in and turn our cameras to some star 10 light years away for an hour and then repeat 3 more times" said Ensign Stevens (Panda).
"Sure but we know nothing will be out there. These scout missions are usually as boring but with far more likely to run into the Toasters and get my sweet ass shot off" said LT Dubois (Tabby). Dubois was still a bit annoyed to be stuck with an Ensign rather than Juno but in the last month she had learned to like the "kid".
"Let's jump over to the other side of the asteroid belt" said Stevens. This system seemed to be worthless but maybe the missing ships are hiding here or something useful.
"Yes sir. The spot you picked has nothing I can see to interfere" said Dubois. Jumping into an asteroid or something is unlikely but will almost certainly kill you. That is why they were jumping above or below or whatever the solar plane.
"Alright Tabby here we go" said Stevens and with that she hit the button.
"Frak that's a Cylon get us out of here" said Dubois.

Chiron Commander's Office
Let's see what did they tell us at the Academy? When not sure what to do figure out what is working and what isn't. Also what do I know versus what I don't know?
For the working list the former military and people who enlisted have reached a level of "passable". The Aglaea was able to turn the direction that Colonel Marton wanted it to and fire it's weapons at a target. The Vipers were good however a half squadron can only do so much. The Epsiki was just about to start replacing the shells for the "big guns" soon. And the Libran Dreams and it's new Raptor refueling system let the surveying be done a lot faster.
The "Fleet Navigation Training Program" under Captain Kristis was paying off. The fleet was able to jump quick enough and "tight" enough that it would get the high praise of "not crap." The "economy" of "work or eat boiled turnips" meant that things are getting fixed and everyone was somewhat busy. Eventually some of the Viper and Raptor parts might be able to be replaced.
'The "not working" list is too big to get into so forget that' thought Jasper. 'So what do we know?'
We are approaching an area of space with more dust in it than usual that is partially blocking out stars on the other side. There is a "local" blue giant that might go nova in only a million years. We even found a rogue planet that unfortunately had nothing useful on it. The old Leonis Science Ministry would pay us a fortune for this information but I am not seeing anything useful.
'What don't I know' thought Jasper. We don't know who destroyed the Cylon mining base. It appears to have been done recently as they have sent some repair ships to fix the damage. Probably not the Rycon due to timing and location. It could be the Galactica, the Canceron SDF ships, or someone else. I also don't have any ideas where the Galactica, Kobol, or anything useful is. I need to come up with a plan of where to go next. The Rycon or Fleet Base Atilla was the only real plan I had. A Professor of Astrophysics or Kobol mythology would be helpful but few of them decided to also be Tyleum miners on the fringe of Colonial space.
I wish Marton was still here. Limaki is doing fine but Marton was able to kick me in the butt when needed. 'Enough whining. You are the Commander figure out a plan' thought Jasper.

For the Raptors "surveying" is kind of a general term. Right now the Raptors are surveying distant stars by looking at them with cameras and then some poor soul has to figure out if there is anything there. "Scouting" is going to an actual solar system and seeing if there is anything to find.
I expect the end of part 1 to be in only a few more chapters. Sorry for the delay posting had a busy week.
