Chapter 22

Day 46

Maxons Respite Governor's Office

"52 Years ago our leaders signed the Articles of Colonization. This united our people into one. Today we are still one people working towards a common goal" said Governor Maxon. "We have made great strides in making this fleet our new home to be able to support itself."
"I would also like to announce that after discussions with Commander Jasper that we are changing the names of the Epsiki to the Velos and the Libran Dreams to the Altis. Velos means Arrow in Kobolian and Altis means To Scout. We think these names are better fitting for their new role within the fleet."
"Today we are having triple points on Yellow items and on half duties" said Maxon. "Enjoy yourself and know that I am proud of what you have accomplished."
Jessi Maxon was glad her speech was over. The "Government" was a mess but everyone is being fed and being kept busy. The police force she had under her control was keeping the obvious black market under wraps and with the socialators on the Respite a black market sex ring does not appear to be happening. One thing that helped is that other than the Ovgigo everyone had a job before the Attack. So while there was a lot of moving people to new jobs and training people were busy.
Things with Jasper tricky as always. Walking the line between needing the military and avoiding the dictatorship that neither wanted. Now would this government pass a judicial review in a Libran court? Gods no but they had as of yet avoided any strikes or unrest.
"Alright people I won't keep you here long. Just wanted to say good job. Captain Kristis do you have anything else to add to your report" asked Jessi. Kristis was a surprise. When I hired him he was definitely qualified but seemed more to be waiting to retire. His new job seemed to light a fire under him and even though he had left the Colonial service almost 30 years ago he seemed to fit right back in to being a Blue Boy.
"No Governor. For now the training and rotation plan seems to be working" said Captain Kristis.
"Thank you. Tom what do you have for us" asked Jessi. Tomas had one of the tougher jobs. The Vega and the Respite to a lesser amount had some ability to make parts. Problem is that retooling to make specific parts takes hours or even days and none of the ships are exactly the same. This didn't matter when Maxon Mining was a mining company and any delays would cost credits. Now it can cause hundreds to die.
"Everything is as fixed as it can be. With rationing and a strict maintenance schedule we can start to build up some parts for both the civilian and military ships" said Tomas Decat. "Do we have any idea of what we are doing next?"
"Officially? We are looking for Kobol with the clues from the Ancient Texts while also looking for the Galactica. Unofficially? We are hoping to find the Galactica or whoever attacked the Cylon mining base. If we don't find anything soon we are debating jumping as far away as we can for a few weeks and then hoping to find a planet" said Jessi. This while a possible plan would put a huge amount of stress on the ships and burn through fuel to an alarming degree. If they did this and were unable to find anything useful in a month of so they could end up all dying in space. "I don't need to say this but keep that part quiet. For now keep saying the official line."
"OK everyone enough. Go have some fun. Get out of here" said Jessi.

Raptor 1

Captain Tonis was glad to finally out of that stupid dust cloud. It seemed like a logical place for the 3 missing mining ships or the mystery Colonial Navy ship to be but nothing was found there. That it was her idea and plan to set up searching that cloud and it was a bust was more annoying. Still now being out in open space and not in the office is nice. Time to jump to their first location.

"COLONIAL RAPTOR REPORT LOCATION OF THE CIVILIAN SHIPS" came across the radio.
"Holy Frak that's the Galactica" said Ensign Malki.
"Galactica thank the gods we found you. Our civilian ships are with the Chiron" said Tonis.
"This is Colonel Tigh. I am ordering you to land and be boarded. If you check out we will coordinate with the Chiron" said the voice on the wireless.
"Juno what are we going to do" asked Malki.
Tonis seeing the Galactica launch Vipers was confused on the aggressiveness coming across the wireless but finding the Galactica was an opportunity that could not be passed up. "Big Top land us in the port landing bay. Be ready to purge the system if needed though."

Galactica Port Landing Bay

The greeting was not friendly but after showing their faces and giving a basic rundown of what has happened since the Attack the Colonel had shared some information. The Galactica had lost it's civilian ships somehow about an hour ago. Commander Adama had been shot by a Cylon that looked like a human that the Galactica crew was calling a skinjob. Looking over the pictures I was able to confirm that Agios and Dyos were what the Galactica had listed as "Leoben".
"Colonel I am agreeing to take your message to Commander Jasper. If we could have someone to explain the tactical issues to her we will see about following through on your plan" said Captain Tonis.
"Fine you can have LT McCall here" said Tigh to her while pointing to a Raptor ECO. "Skulls give a full briefing to Commander Jasper and her crew."
"Yes sir" said LT McCall. Things are frakked but these people seem on edge. Let's deal with these crises first thought Tonis.

Chiron CIC
Time from lost Galactica Fleet 1.5 hours

Jasper was in the middle of her shift. Not much going on tonight. The usual training shifts. Specialist Baines is showing he is a whiz at tactical which is nice.
"Chiron this is Raptor 1. We need immediate landing and request to talk to the Commander" said Captain Tonis.
"Juno this is Chiron Actual on a private line" said Jasper.
"Sir we found the Galactica but there is a problem and time is short. We have a crewmember from the Galactica and they are requesting our aid" said Captain Tonis.
"We will use the pilot briefing room" said Jasper. "Chiron Actual out Raptor One."
LT Drakos you have the CIC. Have the XO and DCAG called to the pilots ready room for a meeting" said Jasper and she walked down to the flight deck.

Chiron Landing Deck

"Everyone get back to work. You heard me Riley that's a week of cleaning deck skidmarks for delaying. We can make it two if you want to keep glaring at me" said CPO Aspers.
Jaspers while walking to the pilot briefing room had noticed that people were milling around. Good to see the new deck chief had the kind soul that a CPO needed.
"Commander on Deck" said Captain Hamlin.

"We are going to help the Galactica find it's missing ships. There are around 46000 people we need to help find" said Commander Jasper. "We are jumping to the Galactica to coordinate with Colonel Tigh. I am leaving you in charge here to take care of our people Dominick" said Jasper.
"Good luck Chiron" said Colonel Marton and with that the Chiron jumped out.
"Let's get the fleet to jump to it's next rendezvous point" said Marton. "I will contact the Governor and let her know what is going on." That should be interesting. If they ran into any Cylons the Aglaea and it's 8 guns and the 2 Raptors won't be able to do much more than hopefully let the civies run away. Still they might have found help or even more of a problem.

Author Notes

Next chapter they will meet up. I picked this point for the Galactica to meet the Chiron because reasons that will hopefully make sense in the next chapter.
I did want to go back to this Colonial "government". Maxon Mining and the CeeMart ship had a decent amount of luxury goods for what is less than 4000 people. As vaguely alluded to everyone gets food. But the food is "cafeteria" or "mess hall" food. It's not horrible but kind of bland. For working people they get better food. Things like "Colonial Doritos" or "Space Nutella" are going to be gone eventually and are one of the items people use their ration cards they get from working. And of course this is set in the Battlestar Galactica universe so alcohol and cigarettes (they will save a pallet or two for Cottle when they meet him) can be purchased. These are the mentioned "yellow items." There are other color coded items that probably won't enter the plot soon.
Captain Kristis is probably one of the most important persons in the fleet but I don't really have much for him to do. He's old. Did a good job in both the Navy and in civilian life. In theory he is probably better qualified than some of the now "XOs" the secondary ships of the flotilla has but again he's old and he is doing a good job with the civilians that Jasper doesn't have to worry about. For now not much I can say about this.
So for the Galactica. Adama got shot by Boomer. The Galactica screwed up and didn't use the same coordinates. Then some mystery Raptor shows up. Tigh and the rest didn't know who they were but assumed it was a Raptor with the civilian ships that found them. When they were told "no we are someone else" they thought it might be Cylons. If I remember correctly the Galactica knew there were 12 Cylons (cough should be 13) and only knew or strongly suspected of 4 skinjobs. Leoben and Doral are confirmed and Boomer is an "almost certainly". Finally 6 or from their POV "Shelly Godfrey" is suspected of being a Cylon. When the Chiron's two pilots showed up and said "hello" Tigh had them land and checked out. He had no reason to suspect them and for two reasons needed their help. Tigh didn't trust them (he is Tigh after all) but this is a very weird plan if it is a Cylon trap and decided to give it a shot.
Jasper for a couple of reasons needed to get there ASAP so left Marton in charge of the fleet with two Raptors for communication if needed. Not a great plan but time is short.
