The Soldier had come up with the plan in his spare time, though, he never actually believed he'd put it into practice. Hydra's reach seemed too complete – too powerful – to truthfully consider running. But then the man stopped fighting. He said he knew him. And the Soldier felt…felt… He knew what he felt was important. So, he ran.

After destroying HYDRA's ability to take him again, he starts to define himself as more than the Winter Soldier, and maybe as Bucky Barnes, as more of his past surfaces. When Steve asks him to come back into the field, he can't say no, soon finding himself with a support system he hasn't had in decades. He'll need them when tragedy strikes. Steve has always loved attending the Christmas Eve service, but this year is different.

Bucky is slowly getting used to Tower life. It helps that Steve is always there with him.

The Avengers are home for the holidays, having really broken into Steve's apartment, but of course Steve let them. But they have gotten him the best Christmas present of his lifetime, which is saying something 'cause he's almost a hundred years old! Romanogers.

Bucky has a hard time realising that you just can't save everyone.

Bucky Barnes is used to strange happenings; his time with the Howling Commandos has guaranteed that. He's therefore not totally thrown off balance when he wakes up in an extraordinary tower in a seemingly impossible year. He can't help but be worried though, no matter how much reassurance he's getting from Steve and his new team.

Steve hasn't slept in 35 hours. The trial for the Winter Soldier is quickly approaching, Christmas is only a few days away ... and oh, he hasn't heard from Bucky all day. Their apartment is empty. Steve can only assume the worst.

Bucky is a demon that grants wishes in exchange for souls. Steve is 7 when he visits, but 17 when Bucky comes to collect. Bucky keeps making excuses for why he keeps putting off collecting, until an ultimatum is given: take Steve Rogers soul or take his place in Hell. Bucky chooses the former.
