Chapter 107

Temper Tantrum

Sirius had been hoping James was having more luck with the animagi study than he was with understanding the most recent transfiguration lesson. But judging on how James was still in the Room of Requirement when Sirius plopped in after History, and a good five minutes into James Ancient Runes class, Sirius didn't think that was the case.

Not that Sirius' attempt for the hour after that was all that successful either, or the search after that, or the search after that.

It was a good week before Sirius received a reply from Uncle Alphard and, while enlightening, it didn't help much. Alphard did suspect that there was one step that was omitted from all the textbooks. It was what he'd gotten stuck on too. Alphard, however, had attempted to move on regardless, resulting in him exploding his arm off and subsequently quitting any attempts at transforming into animals. He warned multiple times in his letter to not do that.

While it did boost Peter's ego a little that he was right, it didn't help them overcome that obstacle.

Sirius wasn't taking confusion well he was anxious to help Remus and as much as he tried he could see his transfiguration grade dropping again.

And, of course, Snape was being his usual nosey Slytherin self.

"I know you, Potter, and Lupin are up to something." Snivellus said, he'd been following them around since the Christmas holiday ended and it was seriously grating. Sirius hadn't even had a chance to replace the house hourglasses yet, it seemed like every time he was alone Snape was in the room somewhere. It was almost like the git liked being publicly humiliated.

"Took you long enough to catch on, Snivy." Sirius replied as dry as he could, replacing the Transfiguration book to where it belonged on the library shelves. The greasy-haired brat had even avoided being seen by Evans just so she wouldn't see him tickle the sleeping dragon. Lily Evans was a god-send when Snivellus started pushing his luck as she wasn't about to sit by and watch her Slytherin friend get himself beat up for his own stupidity. Sirius was about one more snivelly accusation from sitting with her just so she'd get Snape off his back. Sadly he needed the library at the moment so just hexing him wasn't a possibility and Snape seemed to have figured this out.

"I've seen Lupin sneaking around the grounds at night, heading to that stupid tree. What's there? Your secret hideout or something?" Snape moved blocking the path that Sirius was just about to take (a path that incidentally had Lily Evans alongside it.)

"Get out of my way, Snivellus, or I will hex you." Sirius glared his wand now in his hand. How much he'd love to just blow the brat up once and for all.

"No you wont. I've seen your transfiguration grades, you can't afford to be kicked out of the library. Not with that test coming up." Snape said with a smirk, not even flinching at the wand now pointed at him.

The worst part for Sirius wasn't even that Snape was right, it was that Snape had spied on him to such an extent that the arse knew his grades.

"Get. Out. Of. My. Way." Sirius said through his teeth, fury rising. Snape was enjoying watching his anger get the best of him, and he didn't try to hide it.

"If you fools aren't bragging about it then it must be something that'll get you expelled." Snape continued, his long nose crinkling as though it wasn't just Sirius that had to put up with the other's smell.

"I'm warning you, Snape. Get out of my way." Sirius could feel his control slipping away, he was so going to get banned from the library for a fourth year in a row. Ah well, he'd just get Remus to bring him books or give into James' demands to tutor him.

"Since Dumbldore'll let you do whatever the bloody hell you want it must be illegal, and then I'll need proof." Snape crossed his arms, casually talking about how to best get Sirius and his friends expelled. "Ooh, maybe it's illegal enough to to get your arse's thrown in Azkaban, now that would be a treat."

"Stupify!" Sirius finally cracked, and Snape flew backwards into a bookshelf knocking it right over and causing a few girls to scream. Evans was not among them, she was almost instantly at Snape's side, her wand out and pointed right at Sirius.

"Leave him alone." She demanded causing Sirius to laugh.

"Oh, no. It's Snivelly's little body-guard. Merlin's beard, don't you have any pride?" Sirius taunted, feeling totally justified with Snape's obvious pain as he tried to get up.

Lily was about to respond when the Librarian's scream of "OUT!" interrupted her and all three of them were forced out of the Library.

Sirius was once again told to never come back that would only last the rest of the year while Lily and Snape had a row about provoking bullies and getting friends kicked out of libraries. Lily stormed off but Snape gave a chuckle, just low enough that the retreating liberian couldn't hear and just loud enough that Sirius could.

"Very ilegal than. Good to know." Snape turned towards dungeons and Sirius stood there fuming for much longer than necessary.

Someday he was going to do something horrible to that greasy-haired git. And he wasn't going to responsible for what happened as a result.
