Chapter 1: Who Is He?
'How did this happen?' he thought to himself. 'There was no way this happening.' What was that led him to this moment? This should have never happened. He did everything he could to avoid this person. Ever since third year. 'So why?'
Three Years Ago:
'Who is that?' he heard the whispers when they returned to Hogwarts the year after the Chamber of Secrets incident. Everyone looked confused when they saw him on the train, then when he sat at the Ravenclaw table the looks he got from the Slytherins were utter shock. 'What happened to his hair?' or 'Why is he sitting at the Ravenclaw table?' these were the comments that surrounded Draco Malfoy when he returned for his third year. He was no longer had that snarky abrasive attitude he had been famous for his first and second year, and no one knew what was going on. But soon it had came out in the Prophet a few weeks after their third year started:
Lord Malfoy Charged with Potioning His Son
Lucius Malfoy was put on trial yesterday on the charges of potioning his own son. After the recent incidents that occurred over the last school year with the Chamber of Secrets the young Malfoy heir returned home but appeared to be acting stranger than he had just before he left for Hogwarts that year. Worried his mother took him to St. Mungos only to find her young son had not only been potioned with numerous potions that effected his personality and temperament, but also loyalty potions set to his father.
Narcissa Malfoy nee Black was incensed when she learned this. She confronted her husband furious with him and from the report received by the Auror Department a battle ensued. After being confronted Lucius Malfoy, enraged by her defying him, attacked his own wife. Unfortunately for him, his wife was not as helpless as he assumed. The report confirmed he shot a Cruciatus Curse at her. Narcissa responded with blocking the curse with a conjured slab of stone then immediately firing of multiple curses of her own.
Her husband had not expected this; he managed to block two of them with his shield before the third shattered it. He took three additional curses to the chest before falling down in a slump. She then called for the Auror's and had him arrested on the charges of not only potioning their son and attacking her upon being confronted, but also for something that was discovered in young Draco's exam report.
Not only did the Healers at ST. Mungos discover potions but they also discovered tale-tale signs of multiple Cruciatus Curses used on the boy. This knowledge is what truly enraged the boy's mother. Which resulted in the duel that later ensued. Lucius has now been charged with two counts of child abuse and line theft by his own wife, as it is commonly known prolonged exposure to the Cruciatus Curse can cause men to become sterile.
Narcissa Malfoy has since took her son and has move in with her older sister and her husband. While Lucius has gotten off with hefty fines when it comes to his actions against his son. He is now battling his wife in court trying to prevent her from divorcing him. We reached out to Lady Malfoy for a comment and she had this to say:
"Of all the insane things he has done throughout the course of our marriage the one thing I will not abide is the torture of my child at the hands of the man who is supposed to protect him. To hell with Pureblood tradition, I refuse to sit back and allow my son to be tortured by his own father. Just because our parents treated us that way does not mean we should do it to our children, and I will not sit idly by and let my son be subjected to that kind of cruelty." She ranted, "I am now fighting, with the help of my sister Andromeda Tonks Nee Black and her husband, Law wizard Edward Tonks, to divorce that bastard and completely strip him of any rights he has as Draco's father I will not let him destroy my baby."
Following that article the school was a buzz with the knowledge of how Draco's mother demanded that the Headmaster re-sort Draco so the children of his father's friends couldn't harm him. It was later learned that Draco had actually been dying his hair all this time on his father's orders to look just like him. Now he was barely recognizable: His hair was now a very soft dirty blonde closer to his mother's dark brown hair instead of the platinum blonde hair that his father sported. He also appeared to be a bit shorter than before. It was later learned that his shoes had had lifts in them to make him appear taller than he was. His actual height was closer to that of a first year even though he was thirteen. It was also learned that his eyes were actually a sparkling silver color and the effects of the potions had made them appear to be a dull grey. But the thing that really surprise everyone the most was the way he acted. He appeared to be very shy, quiet, and occasionally jumpy. But what shocked everyone the most was how studious become. He had begun to spend every waking moment the library.
Later that year Sirius Black had been proven innocent after he joined up with his cousins, Draco's mother and her sister, and got his name cleared while simultaneously exposing the real traitor to the Potters who had been hiding right beside Harry the entire time. Aurors had stormed into the school in early April and barged into Gryffindor Tower to capture the transformed Pettigrew, who was hiding as the pet rat of Ronald Weasley. There had been a massive struggle when they cornered him causing the traitor steal his former 'owners' wand and blasted a giant hole into the tower before escaping. The headline that came after that read:
Black Cleared: Pettigrew Escaped Capture
Famed Azkaban Escapee, Sirius Black, was cleared of all charges two days ago at his extremely late trial that he never received after his arrest on November 1st 1991. Evidence came to light proving that Sirius Black was never the Potter Family's Secret Keeper. Turns out Black admitted under the effects of Veritaserum that not only had he and James Potter become illegal animagus, which was how Black escaped, but so had their long time friend Peter Pettigrew. The interrogation under Veritaserum revealed their forms as Black's being a large black dog that resembled a Grim, James Potter's as a towering stag, and Pettigrew' as being a common garden rat.
It was during this investigation members of the Wizengamot learn the truth behind the fall of the Boy Who Lived's parents. Sirius admitted that initially he was the Secret Keeper but a few days after they performed the Fidelius Charm on the Potter home in Godric's Hollow he had them switch the Secret Keeper to Peter Pettigrew thinking he would be the less obvious choice. This had in-fact turned out to be the wrong choice. Pettigrew later betrayed the Potters to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Name and when Black found out he went after Pettigrew intending to kill him, but when he cornered the traitor on the muggle street Pettigrew had begun screaming that Black had betrayed them. Black then watched as Pettigrew cut off his finger and blew up the street before transforming into his rat form and fleeing leaving Sirius to take the blame of the now murdered muggles and betraying the Potters.
After that Black explained how his arrest had taken place. He told the court he had been arrested as soon as the Aurors arrived on the scene finding him laughing hysterically from being so fooled, and without even interrogating him he was chucked into Azkaban labeled a murderer and traitor. When asked why he had not escaped until now Sirius explained he felt it was a just punishment for failing to protect his best friends and resigned to his fate occasionally using his animagus form to keep himself from going completely insane.
However one day while the Minister had been visiting the Prison. Black asked the Minister, as Minister Fudge walked by Black's cell, for the used copy of the Daily Prophet that Minister Fudge already finished reading. It was that paper that urged Black to escape. Many of you may wonder which article set him off. Turns out it was the article shortly after the Summer holidays started depicting the Weasley family who had been photographed on their trip to Egypt after winning the annual Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw.
When asked why had such an article set Black to escape the island? He answered that the Weasley boy who had appeared to be the youngest of the boys had a pet rat, that was missing one toe, sitting on his shoulder. After inspecting it closely he confirmed the rat sitting on the boy's shoulder was actually Pettigrew who's transformed form Black had seen many times. The article in question also stated the boy, Ronald Weasley, was friends with Harry Potter, Black's Godson, at Hogwarts. Black stated that that meant Pettigrew, the real traitor, was hiding right beside Harry. The following night Black transformed into his Animagus form and escaped his cell then 'Dogpaddled' to shore hell-bent on protecting Harry.
Black then explained that after he made his way to Hogsmead he hid in the Shrieking Shack were he was found by his cousin, Narcissa Malfoy nee Black, who had used Family Magic to track him down. Black explained how his cousin took him to her sister's were the pair of them interrogated him and got the truth. The former Black Sisters then reached out to Amelia Bones, Head of the DMLE, asking her to look into Sirius' arrest and trial. Madam Bones had been confused as to why the sisters requested this but when she did she was shocked by what she found:
"The Aurors who arrested Black REALLY cocked up." The Department head told us, "Not only did not one of them checked Black's wand to find out what his last spell was. The only thing found in the crater was Pettigrew's finger…nothing else! No blood, no bone just a finger. The after math of the Blasting Curse Black had been accused of using would not have caused that kind of result there should have been body parts everywhere." Our esteemed Madam Bones continued to Rage on, "and to top it off Former Minister Bagnold and Former Head of the DMLE Bartimus Crouch SR. did not even hold a trial. They just chucked him in Azkaban! IDIOTS!"
After the interrogation Black was quickly cleared of all charges and was awarded restitution for his twelve year lock up. Later that evening Aurors stormed into Hogwarts to capture Pettigrew only to have the traitor escape after basting a hole into the side of the castle. With Black now cleared the Dementors were pulled from Hogwarts and a man hunt has now been issued for Pettigrew. After hearing the news Black had this to say:
"I can't believe they let that bastard escape." Black growled, "I'll personally hire some Hit-Wizards to track the scum down." When asked what he will do until Pettigrew can be apprehended he responded, "I'm going to heal up and help my cousin in her court case against her soon to be ex-husband then take up my duties as my Godson's guardian."
When Draco read that article he did not expect it to have any effect on his life but boy was he wrong. The following summer found him living at Number 12 Grimmauld Place. A month later his mother won her case and hers and Draco's last names were changed to Black. But that hadn't been a big deal to him. No the biggest problem was that two days after his Mother's triumphant win…Harry Potter moved in as well. Draco had been shocked to come down one morning and find Potter sitting at the table with his mother pleasantly chatting. Upon seeing this he immediately turned around and went back upstairs. He had spent the entirety of third year staying far away from Potter and his friends and now had to live with him.
Fortunately his mother promised by the time he came back from his fourth year they'd be in their own new place. With that decided he did his best to stay far away from Potter taking all his meals in his room. He was relieved when they returned to Hogwarts where avoiding Potter was much easier. He had had multiple encounters with the boy their first and second year while under the effects of his father's potions. He had antagonized the sullen boy one too many times for his liking. Harry had always been a quiet kid the first time Draco talked to him the boy glared viciously at him which would have sent un-potioned Draco running, but potioned Draco wanted to put Potter in his place.
Over those two years multiple times Draco had verbally assaulted Potter and his fellow Gryffindor's that alone made the now potion free Draco afraid of him. Potter had always been quiet and appeared to be ready to curse the first person to push him too far. Draco had been relieve he never actually set Potter off, and had no intention of setting him off. However Draco's hopes of never having to associate with he dark haired boy again after fourth year were dashed when Harry's name came out of the Goblet of Fire. After the whole tournament ended Voldemort was back and his mother decided they'd continue to stay at Grimmauld Place with Sirius for safety and they weren't the only ones. The Weasley Family moved in along with numerous members of the Order. The house became loud and rambunctious.
This meant Draco had many more people to avoid in the house he was forced to stay in so he ended up spending most of his time either in his room or in the library. One of the days he chose to spend his time in the library he encountered Hermione Granger. His face went white when she came in and he immediately got up and went back to his room. She had been the girl Potter took to the Yule Ball so surely they were a couple. He wasn't going to make the mistake of pissing her off. This happened multiple times until one day when the girl came in while he was reading. He immediately stood when the girl barked, "SIT!" he stared at her wide eyed and returned to his seat slowly and they sat in silence both reading.
After that, the two of them sat together many nights even after they returned to Hogwarts. The girl never spoke to him, not once. She would simply sit across fro him in the library and whenever Harry came to find her Draco would always disappear behind shelves after making it seem like he was finished. He would hide in the stacks and watch them talk quietly waiting for them to leave. This happened many times and as soon as they left he would return to his spot and resume working. Throughout their fifth year this constantly happened. He would end up watching the two of them and soon he noticed he seemed to just watch Harry.
Harry would come into the library by himself occasionally just to work. Draco found that any time this happened he would remain in the stacks and watch his former rival quietly and would wonder what he was working on. After Umbridge busted Potter's little group Harry would be in the library almost every night sitting quietly at the table Draco usually used. Draco never said anything he simply watched him. But by the end of the year Voldemort exposed himself in the Ministry trying to break in the Department of Mysteries.
Umbridge was booted from the school and under investigation for child endangerment. After that the Weasley's went back to their home but that still left Draco with Harry at Grimmauld place the summer before sixth year. His mother was still too nervous to have them leave the safety of the Black Family wards. So Draco and his mother stayed there with Sirius, his lover Remus Lupin and Harry. They got on like a quiet little family all accept Draco who would keep quiet at dinners and actively avoid eye contact with anyone accept his mother.
The one thing he did in that house was read in the library and occasionally he'd find Potter reading there as well. When ever he did he'd stand in the shadow of the doorway and watch until Harry noticed him then he would quickly make his way back upstairs. He didn't understand it but whenever Harry caught him watching, his face would feel so hot like it was on fire. This confused him. Why was it whenever their eyes met his face felt so hot? He was ecstatic when school started again so he could hide in the library once again.
It was now the middle of their first term or sixth year. Draco was coming around the corned with a stack of books in his hand when he spotted Potter sitting at the table Draco had just been occupying. His notes were still scattered across his side of the table. His face got hot almost immediately spotting him there, but he couldn't go get his things. Not with Harry sitting right there. He backed up and went to his usual spot where he would watch and wait for him to leave. Minutes went by and the stack of books got heavier an heavier so he turned to set them down on the cart beside him and when he turned back Potter was gone. Draco noticed is stuff was still there though.
'He must have gone to get a text book. Okay I'll go get my stuff and-' he thought as he turned to head out he bump into something sturdy and hard. He quickly realized it wasn't a something it was someone. "I'm sorr-" he started to say quietly as he looked up at the person. His face went white when he saw who was looking down at him.
Harry Potter was standing right in front of him looking at him with that permanent 'Don't fuck with me' expression the boy always wore. Draco tremble a bit, "I'm so sorry…" he mumbled and tried to quickly move around the taller boy to go get his things and flee the library.
Harry's arm shot out blocking Draco's escape route which caused the blonde to freeze in place trembling. 'Is this it? Is he finally going to get back at me for the stuff I did first and second year?' he thought. Draco closed his eyes waiting for the inevitable punch or curse he had coming to him but nothing came. He peeked one eye opened and saw Harry was facing him still with that fierce look. "Why are you always watching me?" Harry asked him.
Draco blinked not expecting that question and before he could stop himself and think, his mouth open, "Because your so handsome." Draco's eyes widened when he heard those words leave his own mouth. 'What did I just say?!' he thought frantically. He covered his mouth with his hand as his face felt extremely hot.
Before he could come up with an excuse he felt Harry grab his own wrist and pull his hand away from his mouth. Draco's eyes widened as Harry bent down his face inches from his own and before he could pull away he was pinned against the wall behind him and Harry's lips were on his own. Harry Potter was kissing him. Draco's eyes went as wide as a house elf's as he felt the other boy's lips on his own. When Harry pulled away he gave Draco a faint smile as he held Draco's arm in place above his head.
"How cute." He whispered before pressing their lips together again kissing him deeper this time.
'What the hell is happening?!' Draco internally screamed.
