"This is Grayfox. I'm in front of the disposal facility." the blonde SHIELD agent who was currently crouched behind a large metal container talking into his earpiece. at the far end of the area was the closed hanger door of the facility at the halfway point between him and it was an empty helicopter pad. While around the area were three soldiers on patrol dressed in winter fatigues and white balaclavas hiding their faces, all of them were sporting Russian assault rifles.
"Excellent, Grayfox. How's that Sneaking Suit working out?" once again for this mission Naruto's main tech support was Alex the young female SHIELD agent who had a knack for quoting William Shakespeare.
"I'm nice and dry, but it is a little hard to move," Naruto answered honestly as permission he had been forced to forgo his normal black SHIELD jumpsuit and replace it with the new sneaking suit he would wear under his chest, forearm, and leg armor.
"Bear with it. It's designed to prevent hypothermia. This is Alaska you know." Alex's voice called out.
As the call ended Naruto took another look from around the container. taking a few minutes to study the soldier's pattern of movement before finally beginning to make a move. There are only 15 hours left until Ocelot's deadline he needed to hurry. Naruto locates an air duct on the second-floor walkway structure that was attached to the facility, but it is guarded, Eventually, Naruto was able to sneak his way around the area making sure he was careful to avoid the soldiers as well as the cameras in the area.
Making his way across the catwalk Naruto enters the vent on the second floor of the facility moving through the vent shafts he sees two Soldiers talking through one of the vent covers. suddenly they both stopped talking when a call came in through their radio.
"new orders, Shalashaska wants a sweep of the facility again."
"This is unit 14 we copy, over." the first soldier said as he reached into his belt and pulled up the radio attached to it so he could speak.
"This is the second time today we have had to sweep the same building. meanwhile, Shalashaska has been lurking around the B2 warehouse." the second soldier complained.
"Don't let him hear you say that, or do you want to end up like unit 9 patrolling outside in the snow." with that both men took off in the opposite direction of the corridor to begin their duty.
"This is Grayfox I just have confirmed location on Ocelot," Naruto called to his earpiece as he began to make his way through the air ducts.
"Copy, we just confirmed the arrivals of Romanoff and Barton, ETA to your location 2 hours." this time it was a strict voice of Maria Hill that came through his earpiece. answering back an affirmation the blonde continued to make his way down the duct till he reached another opening. taking a moment to make sure there were no other soldiers in the corridor Naruto took the cover to the air vent off making sure to not let it fall to the ground. holding on to the edge of the opening he tucked his legs under him tightly before flipping over and rolling out of the air duct quietly landing on his hands and feet like a cat.
Moving to the elevator he pressed the call button and waited for it to arrive. as the doors began to open he moved to the side and waited a few seconds. what's no one had walked out he knew it was safe and stepping into the elevator you press the button that would take him to the second level basement floor. after a few moments he reached his desired floor and like before he pressed himself against the wall so that when the elevator doors opened anyone who might be standing in the corridor would not see him.
Quickly looking around the corner and seeing that the corridor was empty Naruto stepped out of the elevator and began to silently make his way toward the warehouse area. coming up to a pair of doors marked storage Naruto stepped into the room. the room was very large with six parallel steel beams going vertical from the floor to the roof spaced evenly throughout. noises closing the door behind him Naruto began stepping further into the room when a sound he had grown to become very accustomed to over the past two years rang out from the other side. Naruto jumped up into the air as a bullet ricochets off the floor an inch from where his foot had just been.
behind one of the furthest pillars,n older man with slightly thinning white long hair pulled back into a low ponytail with an equally White handlebar mustache turn to face Naruto. like always he was dressed in the atypical style of an old western cowboy pointed boots with spurs, Bandelier's crossing over his torso, and a gun belt with his signature red scarf and duster coat. The old man twirls a revolver in his hand.
"Ocelot!" Naruto called out angrily as he drew his own colt single action army revolver.
"I've been waiting for you, Naruto Uzumaki," Ocelot called out as he rubs his gun slowly before spotting Naruto's.
"These guys are the greatest handgun ever made the Colt Single Action Army, six bullets more than enough to kill anything that moves," Ocelot said as he reloads his gun before place in the back of his hip holster.
"Where's the warhead Ocelot!" Naruto demanded as he refused to lower his weapon. however, the old Russian cowboy just continued to look on smugly.
"If you want answers you have to earn them. come to Naruto let's play a game just me and you let's test who is better the ocelot or the gray fox." Ocelot called out excited at the possibility of their coming fight. Seeing no other way to deal with a man Naruto holstered his gun as the two-faced off. neither one of them moved as they stared each other down unblinkingly all the while their hands were slowly beginning to creep towards their respective weapons in their holsters.
"Draw!"
At Ocelot's shout, they both drew their holstered weapon. although Naruto was more agile and had speed on his side due to his advanced physiology ocelot had decades of experience with the weapon. as such the blonde had no advantage over the old cowboy. as shot, after shot rang out through the warehouse both men dodged in the duct behind pillars as they tried to hit their target after a few rounds are fired Ocelot pauses to reload his gun Naruto using the opportunity does the same.
"Just what I'd expect from you. It's been a while since I've had such a good fight, but I'm just getting warmed up." Ocelot called out from his cover his voice full of excitement.
"This isn't a game old man I'm not going to let you get away with killing innocent people," Naruto called out his voice shaking with anger as he finished reloading his next six rounds. as they both moved out to fire on each other once more now order was surprised to see that ocelot was aiming his revolver not directly at him but a spot a few feet over his right shoulder.
As Naruto pulled back the hammer of his revolver and prepared to fire his first shot he suddenly lurched forward with a grunt of pain as something hot painfully dug into the back of his shoulder. seen his opportunity Ocelots fired his remaining five shots, it was with pure luck that Naruto manage to steady himself on his feet and roll out of the way behind a pillar for cover.
"Your pretty good kid, but you still got a few things to learn," Ocelot called out before he gave a deep laugh. Naruto caused himself as he realized Ocelot was skilled enough to accurately ricochet his shots. Ocelot leaps out from behind the pillar ready to shoot once more. and even though Naruto was still not behind his cover waiting for his body to heal his bullet wound. he quickly found himself having to jump out of the way as two bullets that have been ricocheted off or wall and a pillar came at him.
"To hell with this," Naruto called out in frustration once he finally felt his shoulder had healed. he may have spent the last year and a half training and with the speed of his draw and the accuracy of his shots he'll never consider the possibility of ricocheting his shots. stepping out from behind his cover his unfired six rounds at the ready. he pumped a small amount of chakra into his legs for an added boost in speed and dashed Ocelot's position firing off his six rounds to ensure that he stayed pinned down. this foolish plan was not without its risk as Naruto felt his side and back impacted three times by ricocheted bullets.
"it's over you lose," Naruto coughed out a bit as he fought to remain focused and standing as his body healed his wounds. never once removing the barrel of his gun from the ocelot's head. however, this did not seem to disturb the Russian as he merely holstered his gun brought his hands up in a show of surrender, and began to chuckle maniacally.
"Four shots and you're still standing, color me impressed," Ocelot said with a casual air about the whole situation. "that healing ability of yours is truly remarkable."
"The warhead start talking," Naruto demanded ignoring the man's nonsense as he spent a bit of blood on the floor.
"it's currently being housed inside a metal gear on the opposite side of the facility," Ocelot said calmly.
"Metal Gear like the Shagohod!?" Naruto said in other shock remembering the massive tank from Russia 2 years ago.
"The Shagohod was merely a prototype in development first generation. the metal gear house in this facility goes by the code name Rex and far surpasses that Russian slug." ocelot clarified with an air of superiority to his voice.
"How did you manage to get a metal gear into this facility," Naruto asked now that he was able to focus better. his body was almost done healing and his breathing was under control. at Naruto's question ocelot look a bit surprised before he began to chuckle in amusement
"We didn't bring metal gear here...what do you think this place really is, or better yet what did Nicholas and his pencil pushers tell you." Ocelot said but before Naruto could say more the sound of several footsteps making their way down the corridor from the elevator could be heard approaching.
"How do I stop metal gear," Naruto asks
"Hmmm. You'll need to find Hal Emmerich, The team leader of the Metal Gear Rex project. A genius at engineering, but a little bit of an oddball." Ocelot said with a shrug. "If there is anyone who can figure out how to stop Metal Gear from launching, it's him."
"Where is this Emmerich?" Naruto demanded with more urgency as the footsteps began to grow louder and louder.
"Well... he's probably being held somewhere in the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building. It's north of here. That's where he worked.
"Wants your game Ocelot, don't bad guys keep this much information to themselves," Naruto said as he looked at the man suspiciously.
"let's just say I'm feeling generous, besides you better hurry if you're planning to stop Olga from launching that nuke." at the mention of the female soldier Naruto paused a look of uncertainty crossed his face.
However, before Naruto could ask any more questions the door at the far end of the room burst open revealing several armed Russian soldiers rushing in their weapons raised. cursing at their arrival Naruto pulled a grenade from his utility belt before pulling the pin and dropping it behind him a few feet. as the flashbang went off the Russian soldiers and ocelot all cover their eyes in the sudden bright light. by the time it was clear the blonde SHIELD agent had left the room.
Moving down the corridor Naruto quickly created some distance between himself and the storage room, after turning the corner he looked for the nearest air vent and ducked inside. not long after the sounds of footsteps could be heard as soldiers were making their way throughout the floor in search of him.
"Alex is there any information on SHIELD'S records about this Emmerich guy Ocelot was talking about?" once he was along Naruto took a moment to contact SHIELD.
"You mean Dr. Emmerich? staffing records show that he should be in the second-floor basement of the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building to the north." Alex's voice answered him after a moment of silence." According to the facility blueprints, there's a cargo door on the first floor of this building that leads to the north."
Having checked out the information Ocelot had given him was ligament Naruto proceeded to sneak his way through the rest of the building. With some work, he had made it to the hanger door. stepping through Naruto found himself stepping onto a large open snowfield that separates the next section of the facility. to the left and right of the field were cliffs that blocked off any other escape route.
Taking a cautious look around and spotting no soldiers on patrol in this area Naruto begins to carefully make his way across the snowfield all the while using chakra on the sole of his feet to keep him from leaving any kind of imprints in the snow. in no time at all he had made it across the snowfield and was now stepping into the next part of the facility.
Naruto had only just stepped into the Nuclear Weapons Storage Building when he was suddenly contacted.
"Grayfox be careful. You absolutely must not use weapons in that area." It was Alex and she sounded almost frantic.
"What? What are you talking about?" Naruto asked not understanding.
"Have you forgotten? That's where they keep the nuclear warheads. can't you see them." this time it was Hill
"There are lots of boxes piled up here, but... are they all warheads?" Naruto asked as he stepped back from a crate he was hiding behind.
"Yes. They're all dismantled warheads. All of the warheads in those boxes have had their detonation mechanisms removed so there's no fear of them exploding. Grayfox you must never use your weapon on that floor." Alex said as the call was ended.
Taking a moment to steady himself Naruto, uses some chakra and being to walk up the nearest wall till he is in the ceiling. with no boxes in his way, patrolling soldiers, and cameras he gets through the level with no trouble but when he gets to the lower level of the building. not long after he makes his way down another corridor and finally comes across a room full of computer workstations. stepping into the room Naruto spots a thin man who looked to be in his mid-thirties he had large shaggy brown hair and black-framed glasses. he has dressed in brown slacks and a blue-collar polo shirt with a white lab coat over it.
Looking around and seeing that he was the only one in the room Naruto canceled the chakra he was sent to his feet and silently dropped from the ceiling. landing right behind the man hunched over in his chair busy working at his station.
"Are you the Metal Gear chief engineer, Hal Emmerich?" Naruto asked as he took a step closer to the man. at the sudden appearance of Naruto's voice, the man gave a startled yelp as he quickly turned around in his seat.
"Who are you how did you get here are you with those Russians?" the man frantically asked the eyed Naruto up and down.
"I'm with a branch of the US government I've been sent in to deal with the hostile takeover of this facility," Naruto answer the man truthfully but still not divulging any details about himself.
"Oh. So you're here to rescue me?" Emmerich asked hopefully as a look of relief spread across his face.
"eventually but right now there's something that I've got to do first," Naruto said.
"Oh, well... okay," Emmerich said a bit downcast.
"I want to ask you something. I need information about Metal Gear." Naruto said.
"Huh? Metal Gear?" Emmerich repeated signing a bit confused.
"Why is the US government designing a metal gear in this place, for what purpose," Naruto demanded.
"It's a mobile TMD. It's designed to shoot down nuclear missiles, only for defensive purposes of course." Emmerich answered honestly. but Naruto grabs Emmerich by the collar and holds him up, shaking him.
"Don't lie to me how did Ocelot find out about this place developing a Metal Gear. how did they know that it could launch a nuclear weapon are you working with them" Naruto demanded of the man.
"Nuclear? What are you talking about? Emmerich spluttered out not understanding what Naruto was saying to him.
"The terrorist is planning to use Metal Gear to launch a nuclear missile. Are you telling me I didn't know?" Naruto demanded
"They're going to put a nuclear missile into Metal Gear's TMD missile module?" Emmerich tried to explain, but Naruto wasn't done talking.
"Wrong. From the beginning, the purpose of this exercise was to test Metal Gear's nuclear launch capability using a dummy nuclear warhead. The terrorists are just continuing the work you started." Naruto thought Dr. Emmerich away from him.
"No, you're wrong... no... a nuclear missile on Rex?" Emmerich was continuing to mutter to himself in disbelief
"So you didn't know?" Naruto said finally be leaving the man's words he saw the looks of shock and regret on his face.
"Yeah, I was never told exactly what they armed Rex with. I...I only know it's equipped with a Vulcan cannon, laser, and a rail gun." Emmerich said
"A rail gun you said? Naruto repeats it a bit confused. at the look on his face, the doctor clarified.
"Yeah. It uses magnets to fire bullets at extremely high velocities. The technology was originally developed for the SDI system and later scrapped. We were successful in miniaturizing it in a joint venture between ArmsTech and River more National Labs. The rail gun is on Rex's right arm." Emmerich explained.
"Metal Gear's main function is to launch nuclear missiles. You're sure you're not forgetting something?" Naruto asked
Metal Gear indeed has a missile module on his back that can carry up to eight missiles. But are you saying it was originally meant to carry nuclear missiles?" Emmerich said unsure of himself.
"No... could it be? Damn!! ...Damn!!" Emmerich is on the ground now banging his fist against it. "I'm such a fool! It's all my fault..."Emmerich began to berate himself and at the confused look on Naruto's face, he elaborated. "The truth is... my grandfather was part of the Manhattan Project. He suffered from guilt for the rest of his life. And my father... he was born on August 6, 1945...
"The day of the Hiroshima bomb...this is heavy doc," Naruto said recalling the day from the history lessons he had been taught over the past two years.
"Three generations of Emmerich men... We must have the curse of nuclear weapons written into our DNA. I used to think I could use science to help mankind. But the one that wound up getting used was me. Using science to help mankind. that's just in the movies..." by this point Emmerich looked as though he was ready to have a breakdown right then and there.
"That's enough crying doc, pull yourself together! Where is Metal Gear? Where on this base are they keeping it?" Naruto asked if he could find metal gear and stop it Olga or Ocelot wouldn't be able to launch that nuclear warhead.
"Rex is in the underground maintenance base." Emmerich supplied.
"Where is that?" Naruto asked.
"North of the Communications Tower. But it's a long way there." Emmerich said as he turned back to his computer station and brought up a map of the Shadow Moses facility outlining the quickest route to the Metal Gear's location. "You better hurry. If they were planning a launch from the start, then their ballistic program is probably finished. And since they haven't called for me in a few hours, they must not need me. In other words, they must be ready to launch." Emmerich said is he trying to access some information through the network but was denied access.
"Alright looks like mostly a straight shot from here," Naruto said he looked over the map of the facility and began to make his way out of the room once he had it memorized.
"wait I'll show you the way," Emmerich said as he stood from his chair, but Naruto stops him.
"Sorry, doc but this place is crawling with bad guys I can move quicker and unseen if I go on my own," Naruto said, and to make a point he took a step back from the doctor before leaping straight into the air twisting his body as he did and applying chakra to the soles of his feet so that he was sticking to the ceiling. at Emmerich's look of amazement, Naruto drop back down and landed gracefully in front of the doctor.
"wow it's just that one of my Japanese animes," Emmerich gushed out his eyes lit with Wonder" but you'll need me if you're gonna destroy Rex." he said once the shock of what he had seen past." I created Rex. It's my right... my duty to destroy it."
"I don't need you. I just need your brain." Naruto said a bit impatient he didn't want the guy to get hurt but he couldn't stick around here much longer he needed to get a move on. however, at the men's detected look Naruto quickly added. "I need you to be my guy in the chair."
"Of course, don't worry. I've got this." at his new role Emmerich looked a lot more pleased with himself, suddenly remembering something he pulls something out of his lab coat and hands it to Naruto. "Here, use this security card. It's security level 6, it will give you access to anywhere in the facility from this point on.
"Thanks, doctor Emmerich," Naruto said as he graciously expected the security card and stored it in a side pocket on his utility belt.
"Call me, Otacon." Emmerich quickly said as he sat back in his chair in front of his computer workstation.
"Otacon?" Naruto asked a bit confused.
"It stands for Otaku Convention. An Otaku is a guy like me who likes Japanimation. Japan was the first country to successfully make bipedal robots. They're still the best today in the field of robotics." Otacon explained.
"like Mobile suit Gundam and Evangelion?" Naruto asked surprised that the scientist had been inspired by anime.
"I became a scientist because I wanted to make robots like the ones in the Japanese Animes. It's true." Oticon said with excitement filling his voice at Naruto's apparent knowledge of Japanese animation.
"Alright, then you can call me Grayfox, it's my codename. I'm counting on you to help me out Otacon." Naruto said as he gave the man a nod.
"Sure thing Grayfox. I know everything about this whole base. About this base, Metal Gear Rex, the armory, and mess hall. If you need ammo or rations, just call me and I'll let you know." Otacon said as he turned to get back to work at his station but suddenly stopped when he realized something. "how am I going to get in contact with you.
"Don't worry my friends will handle that you just be ready when I need you" Naruto said as he left the room.
"Alex, can you access the Shadow Moses computer system I need you to link me up with doctor Emmerich's computer workstation." Naruto caught into his earpiece as he made his way down the corridor.
"Already on it Grayfox, give me a few minutes to set up a link." the shield agent called back.
