The Bird of Time part two: Kino thought back to the stories Master had given her to read - in one, a person had panicked and frozen to death. Another protagonist had died by infection. More by thirst, quicksand, bog, crocodile, abandonment or betrayal. Now, Kino knew, she was in one of those stories, and despite all her efforts and preparation, fate had found her weakness!
