This story Idea came to me after reading a Fanfic Called "Masters of Genjutsu" by Tsukune08, and I'm Also a Huge Fan of Norse Mythology, so I wanted to make my own Story Combining the few Ideas, The First Being that Instead of Naruto being put on Team 7 he is instead Chosen to be the Apprentice of Yūhi Kurenai 'The Genjutsu Mistress of Konoha', The Second Combining Norse Mythology with the Uzumaki Clan, the Third is to do with the Kage Bunshin no Jutsu Secret and they are some more but i'll Keep them a Secret for now.
Part 1 - New Beginnings
Yūhi Kurenai is a Stunning fair-skinned slender woman, With long black untamed hair and Beautiful Red Eyes that can Piece the Soul of any one. She is normally a strict, but Caring and Intelligent woman who finds it hard to trust people.
Today is another day for her, she asked the Hokage if she could be a Jonin Sensei, and over the few weeks from getting approved she has been watching the students of the current Class. Hyūga Hinata a Girl that she has supported for a few years now is currently sitting by herself, she is Shy but intelligent a genius if she only had the confidence to break out of her shell, Inuzuka Kiba a rather ill tempered boy who thinks he is the Alpha of his class, Aburame Shino a quiet boy who from what she can tell is Extremely Intelligent but hides it well.
This is the team she will probably get a Tracking team, with her Specialising in Genjutsu, they could make the quiet Fearsome team. As she is watching the academy early in the morning, she sees all the students but one, the Young Blonde jinchūriki Uzumaki Naruto. That can only mean one of two things.
The first is that he overslept, something that isn't uncommon from what she has seen, but the Second that is more common is that he is about to pull a prank, and that when she hears it the sound of Paint cans hitting each other, as she looks to where the sound is coming from she sees that he has painted the Hokage Monument.
She chuckles at this, surprised that she didn't see him do it for god sake, He is wearing a 'Kill me Orange Jumpsuit', but as her duty she is going to catch the boy. She sees him running and evading Anbu, Jonin and Chunin. She sees he is going into a Maze of Alleyways, she goes to cut him off at the end of one but he turns, going down another one, after a few minutes of this repeating. He is caught by a man with Brown hair tied up in a ponytail and a scar going over his nose.
Kurenai Lands in front of the two and looks down at the Blond Boy?, as she looks at him he has a lot more of a Feminan face and from the way he is standing it looks a little Feminan but Naruto adjusts and she just waves it off.
The Woman speaks up to the two of them, "I have a question for our local Prank King" she says shutting daggers at the boy, the boy Flinches. "What is your question, Miss kunoichi?"
"Why did you keep changing direction in the alleyways?" She asks the boy in a curious Tone. His Voice breaks as he answers "I felt like someone was following, so I turned. To try and escape."
She nods at the boy, "that's all I wanted to know." before leaving. As she gets back to her spot to watch the students, she is thinking "could he be a sensor? Or was it just instinct from being chased all the time? I need to know more about the Uzumaki clan before I come to a conclusion".
Yūhi Kurenai is sat in her apartment with a Cup of her favourite tea, reading a book on the Uzumaki Clan, and boy she know they were feared, for they Fuinjustu but that's not the half of it, before they founded the Village of Uzushiogakure, they used to Pillage, Raid and Destroy anyone that got in is way. It wasn't till the Senju and Uchiha, Combined Efforts to stop them, that they finally calmed down. They used to be called, 'the Vikings of the shinobi World'.
They had a unique Fitting style, the Maelstrom Style, that focused on moving around their opponent like a Maelstrom, and either quick attacks with Daggers or Strong attacks with Swords. They were said to have a very unique Bloodline, Body, Mind and Soul, the Body provided a Healing factor, the Mind allowed them to sense Chakra and the Soul would give a huge amount of chakra. They were a few mutations of the Body, Mind and Soul, but they are the main ones.
Kurenai Smiles to herself as she thinks "tomorrow when teams are going to be assigned i'm going to ask for Uzumaki Naruto can be my apprentice. Because from what i've seen, he might have poor chakra control, but with the right Training, and tutelage he could become the best Genjustu master in Konoha, with the mind he has, and if my guess is right he is a sensor and that will help him even more."
The following morning she walks to the Hokages tower to speak to the Hokage. He arrives and asks the secretary if the Hokage is available and she tells her that is he. She enters the room after being told she can enter and sees the Old Kage, he is that of an old man with Grey hair and a goatee, dressed in his white and red hokage outfit.
"Kurenai-San, what can I do for you today?" he says with a happy Smile on his face. "Hokage-san I was just wondering if team placements have been set yet?" she asks with a Straight face.
"They have not yet. I'm currently working on them. Is there a reason why you ask?" wanting to know the information. She clears her throat "well yes I was wondering if Uzumaki Naruto Passed?" The Hokage Narrows his eye, and nods giving her the confirmation. "Well I was wondering, If could get him as my Apprentice."
The Old Kage's Eyes Widen, not thinking anyone would want him as an apprentice, "after Everything i've seen over the past few months watching the class, and especially yesterday with him painting the Hokage Rock, he has such a creative mind. That I feel is going unnurtured at the academy, with him being the 'you know what'. I think by giving some proper care, he could be a Master of my Art."
The old Kage Leans back into his chair, and thinks for a few minutes. He closes his eyes waying the Pro's and Con's. Before opening them again, "I was Originally going to give you a tracking team, but with what you have said I think you might be right."
"But now the question is who would I give the tracking team too?" he ponders out loud, Kakashi would be his first option, but the counsel wants him to train the Last Uchiha. Kurenai speaks up "I have a suggestion, Hokage?"
After giving the suggestion the old Kage smiles like the Idea, "well i'll have to think more about that suggestion but you might be right. Normally I would give you your team next week but since an apprentice is different, I will allow you to start training Naruto as of today. He will be coming here soon to collect some money for helping stop a traitor last night, I will introduce you to him then."
Curious, she asks what happened and is informed of the incident last night.
A few hours pass and Kurenai is sat over from Naruto in his 'Kill Me Orange' Jumpsuit in a Cafe that she frequents often. Owned by a former Ninja, so they don't kick Naruto out but welcome him, like any other customer.
After having some Tea, she breaks the silence "Naruto Tell me about yourself, Hobbies, Dreams, and dislikes. If it makes it easier for you I'll start first." getting a nod from the young boy. "Well my name is Yūhi Kurenai, my Hobbies reading, hanging with my friends and growing my own tea leaves, my Dream is to bring Genjutsu out of the stigma that it is in being a useless art, and my Dislike are People that are ignorant towards Genjutsu, Perverts and traitors. How about you?"
Naruto talks a deep breathe to calm his nerves "my name is Uzumaki Naruto, my Hobbies are Gardening, eating new types of ramen, Trying to make new friends and training, my Goal was to become Hokage but I feel like that is impossible now, so now it's to be a Ninja that people can respect and to find out about my family" he says with some sadness his his voice as he looks down, " and my Dislike are Fan Girls, the three minutes it take ramen to cook and people who can't tell the difference the glass and the water in it." he says that last part with some venom in his voice.
She nods, getting a better understanding of the boy, "Well Naruto, I've got to tell you, you are lucky." this getting confused look on his face, "Normally a genin would have to wait a Week before meeting his sensei, but since you are going to be an Apprentice you don't have to wait. So I'm going to start training you early." she says with a big smile, that cheers Naruto up.
"But before that next week I'm going to have to improve your Basics, since I read your School reports and you lack of… well… Everything." she says with Sorry look on her face, he looks defeated, "but with your Shadow Clone Jutsu it 'll take less time" as she explains the secret behind them. This gets a huge smile on his face.
"Also your Outfit, will have to change. A Shinobi should not be wearing a "Kill Me Orange" jumpsuit." she tells him, Naruto mumbles something under his breath, With her Icy Looks, "what was that?"
"This outfit is the best, Orange is such an amazing colour, and on top of that, Clothes are expensive, the money I got today will barely cover me for the month." he blurts out, but she is confused he got almost 35000 ryo for what he did, that should of been enough to last him a few months, hell her food bill was only 500 ryo a month and he rent was only 1000 ryo since she was in a shinobi only building, Clothes aren't that expensive maybe a few 1000 ryo.
"What do you mean Naruto?" she asks in a concerned voice. "Well from the 10,000 stipend I get a week, my Rent is 2000 ryo a week, food is normally 6000 plus ryo and that ever I have left has to I put 500 ryo a way on saving and the 1500 ryo that is left over I normally have to put into my food bill at Ichirakus since it the only place I can eat out. Even then Food normally only lasts a few days before it goes off, if that."
This Piss off Kurenai, she knows Shops are over Charging the boy and not only that, but selling him out of date food or close to out of date food, his landlord is ripping him off in rent, and if he is paying that for the basics what is he playing for clothes.
"i'm going to have to talk to the Hokage about this" she thinks to herself, "Well Naruto since you are a full fledged Shinobi now, you can move into a building that is a lot cheaper as apart of the Ninja Program, and as your sensei, I can help you out and show you some good shops that won't overcharge you, Ok" she says with a sickly Sweet Smile not that Naruto Notices.
As the two finish up they head by to the Hokages Tower when they hear the Screams of a "WHAT!?" coming from it. Kurenai chuckles to herself recognizing the voice, this makes Naruto turn his head in confusion.
Over the next Week, after 'talking' to the Hokage, about what she found out, Naruto is moved into a Shinobi Only building, funny enough it's her building over the corridor from her. The Previous tenant got married into the Inuzuka Clan and moved into their compound.
The apartment is bigger than his last, it has a bigger Living Room/Dining room/kitchen with enough room for the boy, a larger bathroom, with a walk in shower and a bath, instead of a Bath shower combo, it has a guest room, a Master Bedroom with a Walk in Closet and Balcony that he can grow Plants on. Since no one will mess with it since it is a shinobi only building watched by Anbu, and almost all the Anbu like Naruto, they knew with his pranks they would always get a good workout and it helped on the boring days.
Kurenai also introduces him to a few Former shinobi owned shops that wont charge him an arm and a leg for Food. Along with a Clothes and Armoury shop for Ninjas Called "Rising Banners". Owned by a Former Blacksmith 'Senka Riku' his is an Older man Completely Hairless from working the forge his whole life, he looks about 60 years old, but still muscular, with scars across his arms, he wears Fabric Top, with Cloth Trousers and Leather boots and Apron.
Upon Meeting Naruto he recognizes him as Kushina child, as he has his mother Face. he is warm with Naruto greeting him as if he was a person. And Naruto gets a few sets of Clothes from the man, before heading to the shop close to the end of the Week, Kurenai and Naruto Study, all the basics and even show him books about his Clan, Naruto Took to this like a duck to water, Reading and Rereading over and over again.
To the point when new clothes are suggested Naruto wants to wear something similar to what his ancestors used to wear. He get a Burnt Orange Coloured Hooded shirt comes just above the elbows and that travels just below his stomach about half way between his waist and knees on top of the is a Leather Chest piece with the Uzumaki Clan Symbol on the back, with a shoulder pad on his right side that has is strap on, under his shirt is a Mess Armoured top, and a cumberbon, that has he has Arm Bracers on that over his wrist and Gloves that only cover his first three fingers, Black anbu Trousers, and With Black Ninja Boots that cover the full foot, and some Weights for his legs. He has also learned about the fighting Style of the Uzumaki the Maelstrom Style, and Wanted to learn Twin Dagger Fighting Style, so he picks up two Daggers Both 15 Inches length Blades by 3 Inches wide, Heavy but well balanced, that are holstered on his Lower Back, And intotal all this cost him 20,000 ryo, and he gets 5 sets of the clothes and 4 sets of daggers. He informs her that the 3 jumpsuits he has cost him 30,000 ryo.
Another thing she learns about Naruto is his rainy day fund has close to 500,000 Ryo, saying it was in case anything bad happened and he stopped getting his stipend, saying that would at least last him a year if he was careful. Kurenai thinking to herself, "he has more money saved up that I do and this is his rainy day fund, i'm going to have to Report a few store"
At the end of the Week, Naruto is sat in his apartment with Kurenai, her having his clones Read Whilst he Sorting out a Bookshelf in his Living Room, as she is sat at a table Drinking Tea, she Decides that now is the best time to talk about his training.
"Naruto" the Boy Stops what he is doing and turns to her, "starting tomorrow I will be beginning your Training and Missions, Since we got you the books and Scrolls on the Maelstrom Style, you will be learning that With Clones, Whilst you and some other clones will be mastering your Chakra control, that will be in the mornings and the afternoon we will be taking the D-Rank missions I told you about." getting a Smile and a nod from Naruto.
"Now for the main reason I want you to profect your chakra control is because I believe you have what it takes to become a Genjutsu Master." Kurenai tells him with a confident smile on her face. "Genjutsu? Jiji always said I would make a great Ninjutsu Specialist because of my High Chakra Reserves." having a slightly worried look on his face.
"Well that is true but because of creativity in your pranks, your Stealth Skill, from being able to hide from the Anbu. I believe that you could become a Master of the Art of Genjutsu within a few years, and think about how much people would respect you, If you became the first Genjutsu Hokage. Plus that is not saying you can't still learn Ninjutsu, just I believe you would make a better Genjutsu specialist." As she tells him this, his Face goes from what of Worry to disbelief, she was saying that she thinks he can become Hokage, and with that of a Big Smile and that of a Victory Pose, she smile "You bet, I'll Become the Best Genjutsu Master they is and then i'll become Hokage, Believe it." that puts a huge smile on that of her face.
"Remember Naruto, Chakra control is the Key to Genjutsu, so I'm going to be running you into the ground till you master it, you and your Clones!" Kurenai Shouts as Naruto and about 200 Clones attempt to run up the side of a Tree, Naruto Noticing whenever one Dispels his control gets slightly better depending on how well the clone was doing.
As Kurenai is watching like a slave Driver, a Purple Hair Woman Drops down Next to her, but keeping hidden as not to desturb her students Training, "so Aneki, how is your Geki training?"
Kurenai Smiles, "Well Anko-Chan, currently Slow then again it's only his first day training, since all of last week was getting him settled in and teaching the basics of what the Academy should have taught him. Have you gotten your team yet?" Kurenai Says with a Big Smile on her face.
"I don't know how you did it but when I do, I will get you back." Anko says with a scowl on her face at her best Friend. "I don't know what you are talking about, but the Hokage must have thought you worthy of leading one. Who is on your team?" Say says messing with her friend.
Scowling trying to figure it out but give up, "Aneki, I have Hyūga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba and Aburame Shino. A tracking team." she nods "from what i've seen and heard, Aburame Shino is smart but Hides it, Inuzuka Kiba thinks he is an Alpha and Hyūga Hinata is smart but needs to be broken out of her shell." Anko takes the information from her Friend.
"I have to go and see the Kage. for a pre team Meeting" Anko says as she starts to walk off, Kurenai smiles and Says "Good Luck". "I don't need it, Aneki," Anko Says with a Sadistic smile on her face. "I know, it was for the kids". As Anko Shunshin away, in a swirl of leaves, getting Kurenai to smile and giggle.
The Original Naruto Stops Training, "Kurenai-Sensei, who was that, that just appeared and then left?" he asks, turning his head curiously. "You Sensed the person that was here?" Naruto Nods, not really understanding what she is getting at, she didn't notice Anko will she Spoke. "How long have you been able to do that Naruto?" Naruto shrugs "since before the Academy." Naruto Starts thinking, "maybe since I was 5, maybe".
"Well get back to training and we can talk about this later, ok" she says to the boy getting a nod. "If he is actually a sencor, this could be even better, I will have to talk to the Hokage about how to train him" she gets a Huge Smile on her face. "The others won't know what hit them, From Deadlast to Top Shinobi".
The Hokage's Office is Filled with Jonin, Looking at a Crystal ball on the Hokage's desk. Looking through Iruka's class as he is giving them a Speech. A man with Brown Spiky hair and Chin Strap beard and a Fag in his mouth. Look around the room, seeing that of a Woman with Purple Hair, "I guess the Rumours are true, Anko is getting a team. But where is Kurenai? I know she was getting a team this year."
He continues looking and spots a Man with Gravity Defying White Hair, his Headband pulled over one of his eyes, and a mask covering his lower face. paying attention to the ball, "Kakashi i'm surprised you are here and not lost on the path of Life" getting the attention of the whole Room and a few snickers.
Kakashi gives the man an Eye Smile "of course I'm here, I wanted to see what team I get, the only one I know is the Last Uchiha. Speaking of people, I thought you would be standing with Kurenai." this getting a few giggles from a few other jonin. Kakashi looks around "where is Kurenai?"
The Hokage Clears his Throat, "Kurenai, has chosen to take an apprentice, instead of a Team." this getting whispers from the others. Kakashi Speaks up "has she chosen to take Hyūga girl as her apprentice, as I know those two are close."
"No, she has taken Uzumaki Naruto on as her apprentice." the old kage tells everyone as he lets out a puff of smoke out of his pipe. A few ask if that's a good Idea because of what he is.
"I don't See a problem with it." Kakashi says, even then he was hoping for the Blond on his team. "She is a Master of Genjutsu, she would be able to stop him if he ever lost control and to my knowledge he hasn't to this day." The Kage agreeing with Kakashi's assessment.
"So since I think I'm one of the only ones in the dark, who else is going to be on my team?" Kakashi asks with his Eye Smile.
The Hokage looks at Kakashi, "the team you will be getting is Uchiha Sasuke, Haruno Sakura and …"
Iruka's class sits waiting for their teacher to arrive to be told what team they will be on. Sasuke is sat by the window Brooding, Yamanaka Ino and sakura are fighting over who sits next to him, Nara Shikamaru is sleeping, as his best friend Akimichi Chōji is eating next to him, Hyūga Hinata is sat by herself waiting to see if Naruto will show up, Inuzuka Kiba is talking to his Ninja Hound Akamaru and Aburame Shino is waiting patiently.
As the door opens up, they teacher Umino Iruka, With a Smile on his face. The class goes quiet "Beginning today all of you are real Ninja, but you are still merely rookie 'genin'. Now… you will soon be assigned duties by the village, So today we will be creating three man teams and each team will have a 'jonin Sensei, but since they is a odd number of you so…" but before he can continue Kiba interrupts him, "Is that because that Idiot Naruto didn't Pass?'' getting a few laughs out of the class. Hinata thinks to herself "so it's true Naruto-Kun Didn't pass.". Shikamaru thinks to himself "Wait, Naruto didn't Pass didn't he or she, I saw him or her the other day he had his headband on and everything.".
Iruka continues, "well Naruto did Pass" getting a few disbelieving looks out of the class. "Naruto, Was chosen by a Jonin to become their apprentice. So he is with them already."
Sasuke Smarks but hides it, Shikamaru Laughs to himself, Choji stops eating for a moment, Hinata is Excited for him, Kiba thinks he is so Lucky, Shino is Neutral, Sakura and Ino are cursing the Blond thinking that is should have been Sasuke to get chosen for an apprenticeship.
Naruto is currently Running up the Tree, when he feels like someone Wishes violence against him, him and his clone lose concentration Falling off the Trues the Clones dispelling.
Naruto is sat on the Floor rubbing his head "ow, from the Fall and from getting my memories from my clones."
"Naruto what happened, Why did you and all your clones lose concentration?" She asks, concerned about the boy.
"I don't know Sensei, I just felt like someone wanted to hurt me, because of Sasuke." Kurenai looked at him like he said something strange. "Well back to Training."
" Now Like I was saying since there is an odd number of people and someone for the Lower Class has been chosen to Graduate Early to make sure the teams have three genin on them." Iruka gestures for the person to come in.
Entering the Room is a Girl about 4ft8 with Spiky Black Hair tied in a ponytail, a a black vest with a Mesh Under shirt, a Plated Band around her wrist, Heavy duty Ninja Shorts with Ninja Boots that come up to her knee, her forehead protector tied into her ponytail, she has two red fang marks under her eyes and they is a Black Wolfdog next to her, that comes up to her knees. It's bigger than Akumaru.
"This is Inuzuka Hena, and her Wolfdog Mishka." Iruka introduces her, "it's a pleasure to meet you all, Like Iruka-Sensei Said im Inuzuka Hena, and this is Mishka, and Unlike my Cousin Kiba, my Family does produce Talented Ninja." she says with a Innocent smile, getting a laugh from the class.
"Hena talk a Set" he heads up and sits next to her cousin. "Now as for the team". He goes through them one by one, "Team 7 Will be Inuzuka Hena and Mishka, Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura. Your Jonin will be Hatake Kakashi" getting a cheer from Sakura and a few growls from the other girls. "Team 8 Will be Hyūga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba and Aburame Shino. Your Jonin will be Mitarashi Anko. Team 9 is still in rotation, Team 10 will be Nara Shikamaru, Akimichi Chōji and Yamanaka Ino and your Jonin will be Sarutobi Asuma. You will be meeting your Jonin Senseis this afternoon so be back for one, you can all go for a break."
As he finishes Speaking, his Window Shatters as a Banner goes through it the banner is pinned to the Wall by two Kunai and the batter Reads 'Mitarashi Anko single and Sexy Jonin Sensei of Team 8' as the Woman stands in the middle this getting looks from everyone shocked, "Right Team 8 Meet me at Best Dongo shop in Konoha in 30 Minutes", as she throws a Smoke bomb and her and the banner is gone, as Team 8 look at each other before realising what she said and Bolt out the Door.
Iruka is looking at the Window and Shouts "ANKO!".
As all of that is going on, Naruto is hanging upside down on a Tree branch stuck there with his Feet, "Ok since you can stick on to the tree with your feet, it's time for some missions." she told the happy boy, who looked instantly down, knowing what was coming.
As Anko is getting to know her team, at her favourite Dongo shop, they see a Cart hurling down the street with a Beautiful Raven Haired Woman with Red eyes, red lipstick and purple eyeshadow. red mesh armour blouse with only the right sleeve visible, Overall, this is very broad material which resembles bandages with a pattern on it similar to those of rose thorns. Her hands and upper thighs are also wrapped in bandages With forehead protector and regular shinobi sandals. Stood on top of the cart as a Boy is pulling the cart, they see Naruto not recognizing him in his new outfit, with the hood up.
"Come on, You can do better than that. We need to get this delivery done" The Raven Haired woman Shouts. Anko Breaks out into laughter. "Aneki is really putting the geki through his paces."
Hinata stutters out, "whhho was thaaat sensei?", "that was my Best Friend Yūhi Kurenai, and her apprentice Uzumaki Naruto. stutters" she tells the Shy girl. "That was Naruto, I didn't recognize him and I feel sorry for him having such a Crazy and Crazy Beautiful Sensei.", Kiba thinks to himself.
Yūhi Kurenai and Uzumaki Naruto Naruto are stud in front of the Hokage and Iruka in the mission Room, they both Smile at the two. Naruto looks Tired, "well congratulations to both of you, you have broken the Record of Most Missions done by a new Genin in one day, With 12 Missions in 7 hours, previously held by Team 9 with 8 in 7 hours." the Hokage says giving both of them a Big Smile.
"Well Jiji, I could do more." Naruto Says, clearly Tired, and the Hokage Laughs "I'm sure you can Naruto-kun, but there are currently no more Missions today." he sees the boy regain Fire in his Eyes happy about that.
"So Kurenai-chan, How is young Naruto Doing?" he Asks about to pick up his pipe then decides not to as she gives him a look. "He is adjusting, studying is still going slow, as he is more of a physical learner than a book learner, that unless it comes to the Uzumaki Clan," she says with a Smile, " as for Training, he got the basics of Tree Walking down today, he just needs to master it now. He can stick to a tree, he just needs to be able to fight on the surface for an hour."
Hearing this shocked Both of them, "HOW!?" Iruka Shouts questioningly, Naruto Smiles giving a Cheeky Grin, "Clones". Irua Confused but the hokage laughs.
"Just Wondering, do you know how many teams Passed the True Genin Test?" Kurenai Asks concerned for Hinata. "I'll Find out Tomorrow afternoon in a Meeting with the Jonin Sensei, I expect you to be there." She nods but Naruto has his eyes closed confused, "what is the True Genin Test?"
"That right Naruto-Kun you don't know since you got an apprenticeship," Iruka says with a Smile, "the True Genin test, is a test that is given to Genin after they meet they Jonin Sensei, to see if they Jonin think they are ready to become Genin or be sent back to the academy. Since you have an apprenticeship you didn't have to do one since you were hand chosen."
That Makes Naruto Beam, getting everyone else in the room to do as well, as its infectus. "Well Naruto, let's pick up our pay for today, because today has been a Long day, then let's head for some food and then Home to rest tomorrow." his Sensei Says. getting a "Hai" from Naruto. As the two head out.
