Aizawa continued putting Fey through a series of physical tests to see just how good she was with her quirk. She did well on the first two tests, even though she lost the race against Iida. For the others that came after, it was another story. Her third test had been a ball toss in which she performed poorly, especially since she had gone up against Bakugou of all people. Then she was subjected to a test of weight lifting which she completely failed at. Her arms were not meant to lift such heavy loads. Then, she ended things with a few sparring matches, one of which had been against Midoriya and she won only because he was too scared to hurt himself if he used his quirks. Later on, once class was done and everyone left for lunch, Izuku told her that he was also concerned that he would hurt her if he gave it all that he had during their fight.
Ochako had introduced Fey to Midoriya after their tests were done. The three of them marched towards the cafeteria, chatting away like they were already best friends. Fey was relieved that Midoriya's initial embarrassment had quickly faded compared to some of his classmates. As they made their way towards one of the tables, Fey quickly noticed Iida already sitting at the table Uraraka and Midoriya were walking towards. She stopped following them mid-way, which prompted the pair to stop and turn around to face her.
"Is everything okay?" Izuku asked, concerned.
"Aren't you going to sit with us?" Ochako asked.
Tenya had also noticed the three of them up ahead, clearly making their way towards their usual table. His body stiffened as his cheeks turned red for the thousandth time today. He turned his gaze away, avoiding eye contact with her at all costs. Fey didn't want to make things uncomfortable while they ate and quickly looked around to see if there were other tables she could sit at. Her eyes zeroed in on Mina's table, where she was sitting with Kirishima and a few other classmates. There was still room at their table and she figured she could eat with them and leave Midoriya and Uraraka to eat with their classmate.
"You guys sit at your usual spot," she assured them. "I'll go sit with Mina and get to know some people. We'll see each other in class, alright?"
"Alright Salvador-chan!" Midoriya chirped.
"Umm please just call me Fey... or Fey-chan if you really want to," Fey answered bashfully.
"Oh sorry Fey! It's just customary to call each other by our last names, that's why."
"I know I just-... Don't worry about it okay?" She smiled.
The pair nodded as they turned to make their way to their usual table. Before she could move, Fey pulled on Ochako's arm to stop her.
"Wait!" she exclaimed. "Can I... ask something from you?" Fey continued shyly.
"What's on your mind Fey?" Ochako replied, growing closer to her so that the boys wouldn't hear them talking.
Fey seemed reluctant at first to share what she had on her mind, but she eventually gave in and leaned in close to tell her in confidence. Ochako agreed without a fuss and gave her a thumbs up before walking to her table. Fey sighed with relief and looked over at Ashido and Kirishima's table. She approached them with a friendly smile, placing her bag on the edge of their table as she did.
"Hey guys," she greeted them. "Mind if I sit with you?"
"Hey it's Fey!" Mina exclaimed happily. "Of course you can sit with us! We were just talking about you."
"Oh? Hopefully nothing to mean," she joked, taking a seat at their table.
"Naah don't worry," Mina replied. "I was just telling the boys how cool your quirk was!"
Kirishima laughed loudly.
"Yeah man! Your quirk is seriously cool!" he shouted. "Like when you were hitting all those targets so fast! Man! That was awesome!"
He wrapped one arm around Fey's shoulder, squeezing her slightly and shaking her excitedly. Fey seemed a bit taken aback by his gesture, but also by what he was saying. She wasn't so used to getting too many compliments regarding her quirk, especially not from extremely talented people like the ones that were in class 1-A.
"Thanks man," she thanked him with a smile. She didn't mind him squeezing her with his arm. It was clear that he did this to be friendly.
"By the way," Mina began. "We noticed how you were drinking a lot from your bottle after your race against Iida. Was that because of your quirk?"
Fey looked at them with a surprised expression. She didn't think anyone would have noticed her drinking from her water bottle during practice. She chuckled slightly, retrieving the gourd from her bag.
"You guys are really perceptive," she complimented them. "And yeah, my quirk makes it so that my body's metabolism is highly accelerated, especially when I use it a lot. This means that my body burns sugar a lot faster than most people."
"Hey that sounds just like how your quirk works Rikido!" Mina exclaimed excitedly, turning her attention towards the largest guy at the table.
Rikido chuckled and smiled big at the two girls.
"Sounds pretty similar, yeah," he said.
"But that still doesn't explain the water," Mina remarked.
"That's because it's not water," Fey snickered. "Well... not entirely anyways."
She opened up her bottle to take a sip from it, then passed it to Mina so that she could inspect what was inside.
"I mix water with a lot of sugar to keep myself hydrated and all sugared up," she explained. "That's just when I don't have time to eat. Between classes, I'll probably eat a snack or two to keep my energy up."
"Oooh I see!" Mina cheerfully replied as she peered into the bottle that she was handed. "So... what would happen if you ran out of juice, so to speak?"
"Well, since my body works pretty similarly to a hummingbird's, if my reserves get really low, my body starts shutting down and eventually, I'll go into a deep, deep sleep, until I get some fluids and sugar in me."
"Wait..." Eijirou interrupted. "So like... you fall asleep when you use your quirk too much?"
"Yeah pretty much... Only, I would say it's more like a coma than like taking a nap. You wouldn't be able to wake me up if I was in that state."
"Sheesh! That sounds awful!" he declared. "Hopefully you won't find yourself in that kind of situation anytime soon."
"It's only happened to me a couple of times in my life. I think I know my body well enough to avoid it." She turned her attention to Rikido. "But maybe Rikido here can watch my back if I ever feel hypoglycemic."
She gave him a wink which made him slightly blush but he laughed it off, giving her a thumbs up as he responded.
"Sure! We can exchange snacks when we feel the munchies creeping in," he said.
Fey giggled joyfully. She was feeling more and more at ease with her classmates, who were making her feel surprisingly at home. They were all talking to her as if she had known them for years, even Kirishima, who had also been one of her clients the night before. She was glad that he didn't seem intimidated or embarrassed to be around her. Now if only it were the case with the other people that were there that night...
The group finished having lunch and continued talking right up until it was time to return to class. Once in class, Fey stuck with Mina and Ochako as they had a team project to do that day in English class. Fey gave them a slight edge since she knew a lot more English than them. In exchange, the two girls gave her a few pointers regarding her Japanese so that she could talk more like a native speaker. Fey even impressed them with a few words of Tagalog, one of the native languages from her homeland. But as the day was winding down, Fey couldn't help but remember what she had asked of Ochako in the cafeteria...
Not before long, her first day of school had come to a close and that meant that she was going to meet with someone with whom she had dreaded speaking to during the whole second half of the day. After retrieving all of her things, Fey made her way out of the classroom, waving goodbye to her newfound friends and making her way towards where she had told this person to meet her. She felt her heart thumping loudly in her chest. She absolutely hated that she needed to do this, but if she was going to be a student here at U. A. Academy, she needed to get this off her chest as soon as possible. Once she was outside of the school, she waited near the entrance for her "date" to arrive...
Surely enough, Ochako, Midoriya and Iida exited the school together. The three of them exchanged their goodbyes for the day, but only two of them left for the dorms. Tenya stayed behind, stopping for a moment to get his bearings before marching towards Fey. Her heart started racing as soon as he started walking towards her and she felt as though it would come out of her throat. She gulped down hard as he got close, his eyes still avoiding her even now. There was a silence between them for a moment, then it was Iida who broke the silence by speaking first.
"Uraraka told me in the cafeteria that you wished to speak to me after class," he said calmly.
Fey nodded in silence, not entirely sure how she would begin. She breathed slightly, trying to center herself before answering.
"Yes," she began. "I-... I know you've been avoiding me." she admitted, her eyes looking to the side in embarrassment.
Tenya slightly choked on his own breath as he heard her say that she had known about his avoiding behavior. He started to blush, both out of embarrassment but also out of shame that someone would notice such shameful behavior coming from him.
"Look I... I get it," Fey continued. "Last night, neither of us knew that we would see each other... so soon. And under such... circumstances."
She grabbed at the feathers around her wrists, pulling on them absentmindedly. Green and yellow feathers started falling on the ground around her.
"But I'd appreciate it if... you kept quiet about all that... A-And I would appreciate you not avoiding me. We're classmates after all and... I would really hate what happened last night to come between us being friends..."
She shyly looked up at Iida, who was finally looking back at her in shock. He realized how stupid he had been acting since the beginning of the day and was shocked by how unfriendly he had been towards her. If his family had witnessed it, they would have probably shunned him, or worse...
"No you're right," he said to her. "I've acted very poorly towards you since the beginning of the day. My actions were very unbecoming of someone of the Iida family. Forgive me..."
His response surprised Fey. She didn't expect him to apologize to her so quickly and so thoroughly. He even seemed remorseful, which she also didn't expect.
"My actions have reflected extremely poorly on my role as class representative," he continued. "As of tonight, I shall henceforth resign from this position to make amends..."
Fey's eyes grew wide as she wildly shook her arms in front of her, sending little feathers flying in every direction.
"Y-You don't have to go that far!" she protested. "I just wanted to clear the air with you, that's all! Please don't resign... I can see that the class really looks up to you."
Tenya looked up from his bowing position and straightened his back slowly. She had only spent a day at U. A. and she could already tell that his classmates looked up to him? He stared at her curiously, wondering how that was possible, or if it was just him that was so unperceptive. He shook his head slightly. That wasn't what mattered right now. What mattered was that she wished for things to be normal between them, but Iida didn't know if that would be possible. If his family ever figured out who she was and learned that he was friends with someone of her character, they would surely despise him...
But there was something in the way that she looked at him, in the way that she had gone through all this trouble just to speak to him about this. To his knowledge, she hadn't spoken to any of the others about the night before. But then again, they had not acted as poorly as he did. Well, maybe with a few exceptions... He had, after all, prevented Mineta from engaging with her earlier in the day after she had introduced herself to the class...
"Alright," he began saying. "I will not resign, but I am determined to make amends for my poor behavior." He bowed in front of her again.
Fey chuckled softly. He seemed so earnest in his desire to make it up to her. It was almost cute.
"Then, let's start over, hmm?" she said as she stretched out a hand towards him. "My name's Salvador Fey, and you?"
Tenya straightened up again, gazing up at her hand for a moment before smiling at her.
"Iida Tenya," he answered, shaking her hand in his. "It is my pleasure to welcome you to U. A. Academy, Miss Salvador."
"Please, call me Fey."
