In preparation for the annual Sports Festival coming in just under a week, a few students from class 1-A had decided to arrange a little "get together" to kick back before the festival arrived. Kaminari and Ashido had been the ones organizing the party, which would take place in their dorm's common room. Many agreed to come, including Fey, who hadn't spoken to any of her classmates since her incident at work. She had spent the past few days training on her own and thinking over everything that had happened between her and Tenya.
Tenya had tried to message her a few times, but she didn't have the strength to answer him more than simple one-worded messages, not with all the thoughts that were burning in her mind. She felt guilty for avoiding him all this time, especially since she had asked him to train with her, but after last time, she didn't know how to approach him anymore.
She had figured, since he was such an astute student, he would probably avoid coming to the mixer. This was one of the reasons why she had agreed to go in the first place. She wanted to hang out with her friends without having to think about what her friendship with Tenya had become. She just wanted to enjoy herself before they all had to face each other in the festival.
Fey arrived a bit early to the party while Mina, Denki and Eijirou were still setting up the common room in their dorm. They greeted her excitedly, complimenting her on her outfit and hairstyle before asking if she wanted something to drink to start off the evening.
"What do you have?" she asked inquisitively.
"We got a few things we can use for cocktails," Denki replied. "Vodka, rhum, tequila, oh and beer of course!"
"I'll have a vodka cranberry if you'd be so kind."
"One vodka cranberry coming for the pretty lady!"
He winked at her as he grabbed the necessary ingredients to prepare her drink. Meanwhile, the girls were all gathering near the electronic system where Jirou was busy programming a few tunes for the party. All the girls from class 1-A had decided to attend, including Momo Yaoyozoru, which really surprised Fey. She had a lot in common with Iida when it came to academic success. She had always striked her as the type that wouldn't necessarily attend dorm parties and would prefer to study at home. Yet there she was, hanging out with her female classmates. She even seemed quite pleased by the fact that they were all hanging out together. Fey had never really spoken to her before so she figured this would be her chance to get more acquainted with her.
"Hey girls!" she called out to them as she approached. "What's going on over here?"
"Oh hey Fey!" Toru replied cheerfully. "Jirou's picking out some music for the party while everyone arrives. She has great taste in music."
"I bet. It's nice to see everyone." She smiled at the group.
"It's nice to see you again as well," Momo answered. "We haven't had the chance to talk together all that much, but the other girls tell me that you're a peach to be around."
"That's me, fuzzy peachy Fey!"
She burst out laughing as the other girls joined her in laughter. After fiddling with the sound system for a bit, music finally erupted from the speakers spread around the main room. The party was well on its way to beginning in earnest, especially now that more people were coming in.
"Heyyy it's Fey!" Sato exclaimed as his eyes narrowed in on her from afar.
"My man Sugarman!" she yelled back, running over to him to give him a really firm handshake.
"Hahaa! Hope you've been doing those exercises I showed you."
"What? You're telling me you didn't notice my guns?"
She flexed proudly. She had gotten a bit more muscle tone since she started training a week ago. Nothing massive, but she flaunted her new muscles like the proud champion she was.
"Alright Fey!" Rikido exclaimed. "Getting those gains in, I see. Don't forget to eat plenty of protein if you want to grow even more."
"Woah you've been training with Sato, Fey?" Toru asked excitedly. Fey hadn't noticed her approaching them.
"She's also been training with Tenya," a familiar voice sounded from behind Sato.
Ochako had just arrived with Midoriya and a few other students. She smirked as she approached Fey to hug her.
"I saw you two training in the park together!" she grinned. "You two were really going at it."
Fey laughed nervously, wondering what exactly she had seen them do in the park. Hopefully, she hadn't seen what she thought and was merely talking about when they had been running laps together.
"Yeah well…" Fey began to say. "We've been really pushing each other so that we can perform our best at the festival."
It hadn't really been the case for the past few days, though, but Fey shoved that thought away. She hadn't come to the party to mope around or overthink. She just wanted to have a good time. Kaminari eventually came around with her drink, having had to serve a few more people after she had put in her own order.
"Hey sorry for the wait," he said. "He's your drink, cutie."
He winked at her again, clearly trying to flirt with her. Fey chuckled softly, taking her drink and smiled to herself.
"This is the second time you've called me pretty tonight, Denki," she called out.
"Eh, what can I say?" he shrugged. "I gotta call it like I see it, beautiful."
Fey laughed once more. "Don't you have drinks to serve?"
"Oh right! Uraraka, did you want anything?"
"I'm good, thanks!" she answered cheerfully.
As he walked away, everyone else started to get settled into the party. People had their drinks, were mingling and the party was really starting to pop off. Fey had sat down with a few of her fellow classmates to play a game of Truth or Dare. It had been her turn to play and Uraraka was the one asking her a question.
"Alright Fey," she said with a sinister tone. "Truth or Dare?"
"Truth," she answered simply, taking a sip of her second vodka cranberry of the night.
"Hehe… Do you have a crush on someone in our class?"
Fey had a feeling she would ask this question. She had been suspicious for a while about her and Tenya since the U.S.J. Incident, but she didn't expect her to do her dirty like that in a Truth or Dare situation. Fey groaned annoyingly, taking a bigger sip of drink this time to help her calm her nerves.
"... Yes," she answered unenthusiastically.
"Ha! I knew it!" Ochako celebrated triumphantly.
"For real, Fey?" Kirishima asked interrogatively. "Who's the lucky guy then? Or girl, I won't judge."
"That's not how the game works, Kirishima," Fey grumbled. "Alright, my turn. Ochako… Truth or Dare?"
"Umm… I'll go with Dare!"
"Hohoo Uraraka feeling adventurous!" Eijirou exclaimed.
"Dare, huh?" Fey snickered. "Alright then… I dare you to let Midoriya tickle you for 20 seconds without bursting out laughing."
Both of them burst out screaming "WHAT?!" at the same time, before looking away from each other and blushing.
"Why am I included in the dare?" Deku complained.
"That's how it works, Deku. Now get to it!" Fey laughed.
Everyone was patiently waiting for the tickle fest to commence. Midoriya seemed extremely hesitant to touch Uraraka, but ultimately gave in to peer pressure. He started tickling her sides and Ochako tried her best not to burst out laughing. She squirmed in her seat, trying to avoid Izuku's fingers but with Fey squishing her in between her and Midoriya, it was difficult to get away from him. The others were all cheering them on, some cheering for Deku to try different tactics to see if she would react more, and others cheering for Ochako to keep her composure. Unfortunately though, Midoriya's efforts proved to be too formidable for her and she eventually caved into the laughter.
"Okay okay! You win Deku! Just please, stop tickling meeee!"
Everyone burst out laughing including Fey and Midoriya. The only one not finding any of it amusing was Ochako, who was now pouting next to Fey like a little girl.
"Aww don't be like that Ochako," Fey said. "Besides, you're way too much of a cutie with that pouting face of yours."
Everyone around them seemed genuinely shocked by Fey's comment, including Ochako. She started blushing furiously, her face turning a deep shade of crimson from the embarrassment.
"F-Fey!" she whined.
"Wow Fey, I didn't know you swung both ways," Kirishima said amusingly.
"There's a lot you guys don't know about me," she replied with tinge mystique.
The game progressed and eventually, it came back to Fey's turn once again. She had had a few more drinks by now, not really paying attention to how fast she was drinking. This time, it was Kirishima's turn to ask her a question.
"Truth or Dare?" he grinned.
"Dare…"
He rubbed his hands together as though he was preparing something big, all the while snickering like a goblin.
"I dare you… to kiss the person that you have a crush on," he finally declared.
The room grew awfully quiet all of a sudden as everyone, even those that weren't playing the game, waited to see what Fey would do. With everyone's attention on her now, she felt incredibly self-conscious and slowly slinked back into her seat.
"Well…" she began speaking. Everyone was waiting for her response with anticipation. "Tough luck you guys, 'cause he's not here."
She grinned and stuck out her tongue mockingly at Kirishima. Everyone sighed disappointingly, returning to what they were originally doing. But in the back of their mind, they were all trying to figure out who Fey's crush was. Since not everyone had shown up to the party, it wasn't immediately obvious who she had a crush on.
"Uugh fine!" Kirishima relented. "Then I dare you to kiss… Mina."
Now the boys were especially interested in what was going to happen. Fey smugly smirked and said:
"Oh if it's just that then… Mina!"
Fey immediately turned towards where Ashido was standing with Asui and Jirou and started to walk towards her. Mina, who had been following their conversation, snickered as she approached.
"Way ahead of you sister," she said, as they both pulled each other close to kiss.
They both started to make out with each other, provoking quite the reaction from the boys at the party. Fey had a few drinks in her system already, after all, but regardless of that, she was very comfortable in her sexuality and didn't mind the dare at all. Plus, Mina seemed to be enjoying the experience just as much as she did.
"Wow they're… really going at it hard," Eijirou commented, feeling his cheeks turn red slightly.
"Man that's… actually kind of hot," Denki commented, biting his lower lip.
Ochako and Midoriya looked at them with a surprised look on their faces. They seemed shocked by their boldness, but ultimately, the whole experience made Uraraka laugh. After a few more seconds of deep make out, Mina and Fey separated as they smiled confidently at each other.
"My my Mina," Fey purred. "Didn't know you had that much in you…"
"You weren't so bad yourself, Fey," Mina smirked. "I'm guessing the guys enjoyed that as well."
The both of them laughed before resuming what they had been previously doing before the dare. Fey sat back down next to Ochako, taking a long sip of her drink once she was settled.
"But seriously Fey," Denki started. "It's killing me to not know who your crush is. Won't you tell us?"
"Maybe next time it's your turn, you can ask me," she replied briefly. "In the meantime, Truth or Dare, Denki?"
Since he had picked Dare, Fey had him do a keg stand with the help of Kirishima. Kaminari downed that thing like a champ, much to Fey's surprise. After he was done though, he seemed to be a little drunker than he was initially, which kind of fried his brain similar to how his quirk would when he over used it.
"Alright, I think that was enough Truth or Dare for tonight," Fey said as she got up from the couch. "Denki needs time to recover from his epic dare."
"Ahh but you're missing Midoriya's turn, Fey!" Eijirou protested. "Come on man! Ask her a good one!"
Fey sighed and turned towards Deku with her empty glass in her hand. Midoriya asked her Truth or Dare, to which Fey answered Truth out of habit and immediately regretted it. Midoriya, in response, pondered for a moment, really building up the suspense. He seemed to be really giving his question a lot of thought.
"Is your crush… Iida Tenya?" he finally asked after what seemed like an eternity of mental analysis.
Fey could feel her whole body tense up at his questions. Her eyes betrayed her true emotions, which prompted a series of "Oohs" and "Ahs" from her peers.
"... I'm done playing for tonight," she declared in a flat tone.
"Ooh so it is Iida?" Kirishima smirked. "Man, didn't think he was your type to be honest, but then again, class rep' is hella manly if you ask me."
"Fey and Iida kissing in a tree," Ochako started singing. "K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"
"Can we stop talking about Tenya now?!" Fey snapped back.
"You are… talking about me?"
Fey's eyes widened as she recognized the voice that had said that.
"Heyy Iida!" Eijirou greeted Iida. "We were just talking about the fact that-..."
He couldn't finish his sentence with Fey elbowing him in the stomach. He choked for a minute, having been caught off guard by his classmate. Fey turned to face Tenya, trying to mask her embarrassment by smiling at him.
"Tenyaaa!" she exclaimed. She was pretty tipsy by now. "No one told me you were going to show up…"
"I wasn't initially supposed to come," he admitted. "But I had time in my schedule after all, so I decided to drop by and see what this 'mixer' was all about…"
"I-I see!" she laughed nervously. "Y-You must be thirsty! Here! Let me get you something to drink."
"I don't really drink alco-"
"I INSIST!"
Fey grabbed hold of his arm, dragging him towards where the drinks were being prepared. She was relieved to be away from all of them, but was still nervous around Iida. She started looking at all the ingredients that were available one by one just to keep herself busy. Tenya looked at her strangely, trying to piece together what was making her act so peculiarly.
"Care to tell me what that was all about?" he leaned in to see what she was up to.
Fey was startled by Tenya being suddenly so close to her. She then started laughing anxiously.
"What do you mean?" she said, feigning innocence. "Nothing happened! It's nothing, really!… Don't worry yourself with that!"
After assembling the necessary ingredients that she needed, she started pouring a drink for Iida, but her nervousness was making her shake so much that she was spilling drink all over the table.
"Crap!" she cursed as she tried to clean up the mess she had made.
"Let me do it," Iida offered. "While you finish up whatever it is that you are concocting."
She reluctantly agreed and let him clean up the counter while she finished preparing his drink. It was a tequila based drink mixed with orange juice and grenadine syrup. She handed the glass to Tenya once she was finished and watched him examine it in great detail.
"It's called a Tequila Sunrise," she told him. "It's mixed with orange juice. I thought you'd appreciate it since you're a big fan of the stuff."
Seeing Tenya drink from the glass she had just handed him and actually liking what was inside made her instantly more relaxed. She smiled at how he seemed so enraptured by the concoction she had prepared for him.
"This is amazing!" he exclaimed. "You are quite the impressive mixologist, dear classmate!"
"Ahh it's nothing really…"
She lowered her head as she seemed to hesitate to say something. Tenya looked at her in confusion, sipping on his drink greedily.
"Listen, Tenya," she finally said to him. "I've been meaning to talk to you about… everything. Could we step outside for a moment?"
Tenya agreed and let her lead the way towards the door leading to the outdoor area. Once outside, things got a lot quieter and they could finally speak to each other without having to raise their voices.
"Is everything all right, Fey?" Iida inquired with a worried tone.
"Look I-..." Fey had trouble forming the correct words. "I've been thinking a lot, Tenya and… I've realized that I'm not yet ready to… take things to the next level between us."
It had been gnawing at her since the day they had confessed their feelings to each other. Despite her liking him more than a friend, she wasn't ready to be fully committed to a relationship yet, not with everything that was happening around them recently.
"Oh I… I see," Tenya answered. "Is there a reason behind this? Have I done something to offend you?"
"No no!" she objected quickly. "It's… not because of you, Tenya. You've been so sweet to me and… you've helped me out a lot, but with the festival coming up and with my situation at work, I just don't feel like this is the right time… I hope you're not angry with me…"
Tenya stared at her blankly. This all felt so foreign to him. He had never navigated this kind of relationship before, but somehow, he understood what Fey was trying to tell him.
"No it's fine," he declared calmly. "I understand completely."
"You… you do?" Fey asked in a surprised tone.
"We're all under a lot of stress lately because of the Sports Festival. In your case, you're also feeling stressed by elements outside of the festival. Making such an important transition at this time would be ill-advised, given the current circumstances."
"So… you're not mad at me?" She seemed genuinely surprised.
"Not at all," He smiled. "If anything, I'm glad to see that you are taking such great consideration in all of this and choosing not to rush into things blindly. I will admit, I might have been overzealous with my feelings with you the other day… N-Not that this means that they were not any less real…"
Fey looked at him with a shocked expression plastered on her face. She was genuinely impressed by how well Tenya was taking what she had said to him. He had been so passionate the other day, she figured he would have caved into himself, but he was handling the whole situation with an impressive level of maturity.
"I-I… don't know what to say," she admitted. "Thank you I suppose? I'm really baffled by how well you're taking this, Tenya… Are you sure you fully get what I'm trying to say?"
He started to laugh, placing his hand over her shoulder reassuringly.
"I am perfectly aware of what you are asking of me, Fey," he confirmed. "You need more time to figure out what it is we are… Plus, it's not such a bad idea to focus our attention on the upcoming festival if we want to be performing at our best."
"Y-Yeah… That's exactly what I thought."
She kept blinking, trying to figure out if she was dreaming or hallucinating what was happening. Tenya continued to smile at her, trying to reassure her as best as he could that he was being completely serious with her.
"Besides, we still have a few more days before the festival to continue our training," he said. "I've been patient with you and didn't want to disturb you as you were recovering from your injuries."
Fey nodded slightly, still dumbfounded by what was currently unfolding before her very eyes.
"That's… very thoughtful of you, Tenya," she said almost in a whisper.
"If it's alright with you, I'd like for us to continue with our training until the festival arrives."
"Yeah… sure. Of course…"
"Splendid! Now, I think we've covered everything that needed to be said, unless you have something else that you would like to discuss with me?"
"Hmm?... Oh no, that was it actually."
"I'm glad to hear it! In that case, I'll see you back inside, alright?"
"Yeah… See you later…"
As Tenya went back inside with his drink, Fey stood in front of the door trying to process their whole conversation in her mind. She had been stressed out about his reaction for the past few days and was dreading having to see him again because of it. In the end, he had taken it way better than she could have ever anticipated.
After spending a few more moments outside with her thoughts, she eventually went back inside to rejoin the party. Tenya was already having fun with his classmates once she rejoined the mixer, and despite feeling a bit off afterwards, she ended up really enjoying the party and left at the end of the day feeling excited again to resume her training with Iida.
