Author's note: I only JUST realized that I had been writing Ochaco's name wrong (oops). From now on, it'll be written the correct way xP
Fey fidgeted with the feathers around her wrists nervously as she thought about how she was going to defeat Katsuki. Sero had been a formidable opponent, but Bakugou was on a whole other level. In terms of combat abilities, he surpassed her on every level, which was why she had tried to avoid direct confrontation with him during the whole festival. Now, she was going to have to go head on against him in an environment that was clearly more advantageous to him than to her. Even if she did stay at the outer edges of the combat zone, any one of his blasts could instantly reach her and send her out of bounds if she wasn't careful enough. This time, there wouldn't be any second chances. If she failed in any way, it would be over for her in an instant.
Tenya grabbed her hand firmly as she kept pulling off the feathers from her wrists. This snapped her out of her anxious spiraling and forced her to look at him. He tried to smile as reassuringly as he could, but even he knew how dangerous this was going to be for her. Regardless of how talented and driven Bakugou was, he more importantly had a grudge against her and would surely be hellbent on making her pay for making a fool out of him at school and during the first half of the festival. This worried him more than his actual strengths. He had seen how relentless he had been with Midoriya in the Battle Trial. He could only imagine what he would do to Fey if he got his hands on her somehow...
"I'm scared, Tenya..." Fey whispered as she lowered her head in shame.
As much as she wanted to beat the living hell out of Bakugou, she couldn't help but know deep down that he was much stronger than her. She knew the chances of her succeeding were minuscule and she didn't want to lose to someone like him. Not after all he had said and done, not after he had beaten one of her best friends in combat. Tenya could feel her shaking next to him, so he got down on one knee in front of her and grabbed her by both arms to make her look at him.
"It's perfectly normal to feel scared," he said calmly. "But you mustn't despair, Fey. The only thing you can do is believe in yourself and give it all that you have. Think about your family, your friends... We're all here, cheering you on to do your very best."
Fey absorbed his word carefully, trying not to let her anxiety get the better of her. She nodded slightly, forcing herself to smile so that she could convince herself that she had this in the bag, even though every part of her was telling her to run.
"Thanks, Tenya," she said, her lips quivering slightly as she smiled. "That means a lot... I'll try to think of you guys while I'm down there fighting him."
"I could give you some pointers on how you could beat him," Midoriya volunteered. "But honestly, I don't have much to give you, Fey..."
"It's fine, Deku," she said, turning her attention towards him. "I'll manage on my own. Besides, this is my fight. No one else is going to fight it for me. This is just another challenge for me to overcome..."
She exhaled loudly, taking deep breaths to try and calm herself down. Bakugou wasn't invincible. She just needed to find what his weakness could be, analyze his movements like she did with Sero. Then maybe, she would stand a chance against him...
The second round of combat began and Tenya was now up against Shiozaki, the girl with the green vines for hair. Fey wondered how this fight was going to end, since Ibara could cover a lot of ground with her vines and Tenya may not be able to outrun all of them. Plus, she was known for her trap tactics, and Iida had previously fallen victim to Hatsumei's trap in his previous battle. Weren't it not for the fact that she had no desire to win the festival, Tenya would have probably lost and Fey knew how heavily this weighed on him. Even though he had been supportive of her and not shown his true emotions, Fey could tell that he was doubting himself as well.
The fight began with Ibara sending a barrage of vines in Iida's direction. Tenya managed to evade most of her attacks, using his speed to dodge each attack. But very quickly, Fey could see what Ibara was trying to do and it worried her. She was boxing Tenya in with her vines and Iida wasn't paying attention to it. She couldn't yell for him since it wasn't allowed, so she had to watch as he slowly fell into his opponent's trap. Before he even knew what had happened, Tenya suddenly found himself wrapped up in Ibara's vines. He was still standing though, but for how long?
Tenya cursed at himself for letting himself get trapped like that. This was the second time now that he had humiliated himself in front of everyone. How was he to become as great of a hero as his brother if he continued to fall into everyone's traps? He recalled when his own brother had won the Sports Festival when he was still studying at U.A. He recalled how proud he felt that his big brother had won the festival and how well he had done. Tenya could feel the emotions starting to break him, but he refused to let this be the end. So he let himself fall forward, activating his Recipro Burst on one leg to gain traction and break out of Ibara's vines. Then, once he was free from the confines of her hair, he activated his Burst once again, but on the other leg, propelling himself forward towards his opponent. Not expecting him to free himself so quickly, she didn't have time to prepare a counter attack as Tenya grabbed hold of her hair and threw her out of the battle area with all his might. Ibara was disqualified as she was now out of bounds and Tenya felt as though he had redeemed himself.
Fey leaped out of her seat and cheered for Tenya proudly. He noticed her jumping around and calling out his name from the rafters. Even though he had such a crushing victory against her, he still remained a gentleman and bowed respectfully to his opponent as he was declared the victor. But with Tenya's battle now done, this meant that it was almost Fey's turn to return to the stage. She reluctantly left for the waiting rooms once more, fighting hard not to let her doubts and her emotions get the better of her. She had so many people counting on her. She needed a clear head if she wanted to live up to their expectations of her.
After waiting a few minutes in the waiting room, Fey was called to the field once again. She marched onto the field with a determined look on her face. Regardless of the outcome, she was determined to leave her mark on the stage today. She would fight as hard as she needed to if it guaranteed her victory over Katsuki. She only needed to keep her intrusive thoughts out of her mind while she faced him.
Bakugou entered the battlefield at the same time as she did, glaring at her from across the court. She returned his gaze as she took her mark on the opposite side of the stadium. This was it. This was her make or break moment. If she managed to defeat Bakugou, she could move on to the next round and potentially face off against Tenya in the very last round. She needed to win if she wanted to go as far as he did in the competition. She steeled herself, clenching her fists as she waited for the bell to ring.
"I'm gonna make you regret making a fool out of me, you damn PIXIE!" Bakugou shouted from his side of the battlefield right as the battle was starting.
He immediately went on the offensive, giving her no time to fly away. She crossed her arms in front of her to block his first attack, his blast knocking her away from him. The impact hurt, but she was still standing. Once she was cleared from him, she immediately took to the skies, making sure not to stray too far from the center of the battle zone so that she wouldn't be accidentally blown out of bounds by Bakugou's quirk. Katsuki immediately followed her into the air, using his blasts to propel him towards her with impressive speed. She was ready to intercept him mid-air, but he quickly changed directions and flew over her, striking again once he was behind her. The blast hit her directly between her wings, sending her plummeting towards the ground. Fey managed to catch herself before she hit the ground though, shooting upwards again to take to the skies once more. If she was going to have any chance at beating Bakugou, she would have to take him on where she had the advantage.
After a few initial scrapes, Fey started getting the hang of things, resisting Bakugou's attack with difficulty, but still managing it nonetheless. He wasn't going to pull any punches with her though. He wanted to win as much as she did. So he started focussing his attacks on Fey's wings, trying to ground her as much as possible to slow her movements down. Without her wings, she would basically be just a sitting duck for him and he could take his prize with no resistance. But Fey was making it very hard for him to hit her on the wings, as she had superior aerial control when it came to aerial combat.
What she lacked though, was pure unbridled strength like Bakugou had. She may not be as strong as him, but she didn't actually need to hit him to win this fight. She only needed him to fall back on the ground for her to secure her victory, and after exchanging a few more blows, her moment had finally come. As soon as Bakugou's feet touched the ground, she immediately started to spin around him at a very high speed, almost disappearing completely from view as she did.
"CYCLONIC RIFT!"
Her movements were quickly starting to create a powerful wind current as it picked up dust and dirt from the ground, effectively trapping Bakugou into an enormous tornado as she spun around him rapidly. Bakugou tried blasting her tornado away, but the sheer amount of dust particles made it hard for him to ignite his palms, only managing to create small blasts. Tenya, Midoriya and Ochaco watched the scene unfold with amazement. They had never seen Fey pull off something this impressive with her quirk and it was actually effective against Bakugou. They thought for a moment that maybe they had overestimated Bakugou, that maybe there was a chance after all that she might beat him.
Fey continued spinning around him at high speed, almost reaching her maximum velocity. If she continued long enough, her tornado would eventually suck in her opponent and send him flying out of bounds. She could feel the currents slowly reaching their peak. It was only a matter of time before Bakugou lost his footing and he could feel it too. So with careful preparation, he pointed his hand up towards the sky, looking straight up at the opening at the top of Fey's tornado.
"Stop... UNDERESTIMATING ME!" he shouted angrily, releasing an enormous blast from his raised palm.
The explosion he had produced was even greater than the one he had made during Ochaco's fight. The flames from his blast were sucked up by the powerful current, completely engulfing Fey as she was knocked down by Bakugou's blast. Tenya watched as she came crashing down on the ground, her wings completely singed by the explosion. She twitched painfully as she tried to get back up, but she could feel her body struggling to keep up after using such a massive amount of energy. Bakugou approached her with calm anger, his palm slightly twitching as well. Fey shot a look of disgust towards him, propping herself up with her leg as she struggled to rise to her feet.
"I'm not gonna lose..." she growled in a low voice. "Not to the likes of YOU!"
She sprung forward, ready to strike at him, but his foot came crashing down into her stomach, making her spit. He then planted his elbow in between her wings hard, sending her back to the floor.
"You're finished," he said with restrained anger. "NOW DIE!"
It was almost too painful to watch as Bakugou delivered another devastating blast towards Fey, sending her flying once again. She rolled onto the ground limply, unable to catch herself anymore. Her whole body was hurting from all the hits she had taken, but her singed wings were the most painful out of everything. At some point, Bakugou stopped attacking when Fey had stopped moving, walking up to her and grabbing her by the shirt. She lifted her up to his face, staring directly into her eyes.
"Now everyone can see you for the fool you are, bitch," he growled through gritted teeth. "That'll teach you... not to underestimate me!"
"The only fool... I see... is you," Fey managed to speak. "You may have won against me... but I got to see you for who you truly are, Katsuki..." She coughed. "Next time... you won't be so... lucky..."
He was about to deliver her another punch when she passed out while in his grasp. He immediately stopped and dropped her on the ground. Midnight called for the medical crew and declared Bakugou as the winner. Even though Fey had suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Bakugou, she had shown the world what she was truly made of that day. She had shown everyone that she deserved to be at U.A. Academy, where all the great heroes were made.
