Author's Note: Yeah... you saw the title. You knew this was coming...
This was so sad to write T-T I hope you guys don't cry too much while reading this. I promise, I'll make it up to you in the next chapters 3
After her fight with Bakugou, Fey was rushed to the infirmary so that Recovery Girl could tend to her wounds. Her body had suffered only minor scrapes and bruises but her wings had been through a lot. They had suffered significant burns on almost their entire surface and would take a bit more time to heal than the rest. Luckily, Recovery Girl managed to heal them just enough so that Fey wouldn't be in constant pain when she woke up. Then, she applied a special ointment and wrapped them in bandages to protect them as they healed.
While Fey was recovering in the infirmary, Tenya faced off against Todoroki in the semi-finals. He was sad to see Fey get eliminated from the festival, especially against Bakugou, but he knew he had to push forward if he wanted to win. He had gotten this far, might as well go all the way.
Shoto had barely given him any room to breathe during their fight, chaining ice attack after ice attack as Tenya tried to flank him. Eventually, he found his opening and managed to land a Recipro Burst right at the back of his head, pinning him to the ground. He then quickly grabbed hold of his shirt, pulling him with him as he made a run for the edge of the battle zone. He had exactly 10 seconds before his engines were stalled. He had this, he could see the edge of the zone approaching quickly. With this, he would be advancing through to the finals and would get his chance at winning first prize. He was almost there, so close he could almost touch it, but his advance was quickly cut off when one of his mufflers got completely clogged up by ice. Soon after, his entire body had been encased in ice thanks to Shoto's quirks and Tenya was eliminated from the festival...
Fey awoke soon after in the infirmary. Recovery Girl explained her injuries to her, saying that she should keep off her wings for a few days. Fey sighed as she thought about how this could affect her work in the coming days. She was already in hot water because of the festival, now her injury would also be putting her in a bad spot. She acknowledged what the nurse had told her and, once she was up to it, left the infirmary to rejoin her classmates. As she was making her way towards the rafters, she saw Tenya standing at the entrance with his phone in his hand, staring blankly at the air.
"Hey Tenya! I'm sorry I wasn't there to see your..."
He had this shocked look on his face, like he had just received some really bad news. She looked at him worryingly as she walked carefully over to him.
"What's wrong Tenya?"
He couldn't speak for a solid few minutes. Fey's heart started racing as she got more and more worried. He definitely had received some bad news from someone, but she couldn't know what exactly until he could tell her. She gently grabbed hold of his wrists, trying to make him look at her.
"Tenya...?"
He eventually snapped out of his initial shock and stared up at Fey looking at him with a concerned look on her face. He was relieved to see that she was awake now, but saw the bandages on her wings. He couldn't react to her injuries though, being too preoccupied by the conversation he had had with his mother over the phone.
"Fey..." he said in a shaky voice. "My brother's in the hospital..."
Fey eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. She hadn't expected him to say that, but it explained his reaction. She placed a hand over her mouth, not knowing what to say first.
"Oh god Tenya I-... I'm so sorry. What happened?"
This all felt way too familiar to her. It reminded her of when her father had been found after the tidal wave had struck her hometown. They had found his body washed up on the shore a few days after the incident. He wasn't breathing, and despite the doctors' best efforts, they couldn't revive him... So she knew exactly how Tenya was feeling, since she had also gone through a similar situation in the past.
"A villain got to him..." Tenya answered after a long pause, his shoulders slightly shaking.
Fey could feel Tenya's pain through his words and his body language. She couldn't help but throw herself into his arms and squeeze him as tight as she could with tears welling up in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry Tenya... I'm here for you. Do you need to leave for the hospital right now?"
She had surmised that the person that he was on the phone with was probably a family member telling him about the incident. Tenya simply nodded, trying to keep his composure in front of Fey. She pulled away from him, quickly wiping away the tears that had formed in her eyes before nodding in response.
"Okay... I'm coming with you."
She wasn't going to stand aside while Tenya was clearly going through a difficult time. She wasn't going to let him suffer alone through this, and since she had gone through something like this in the past, she was probably the best person to support him.
"I appreciate your concern..." Tenya began to speak. "But you don't have to come... My family is waiting for me in Hosu."
"Tenya," Fey's tone grew more serious. "I wasn't asking. I'm going with you whether you want to or not."
Tenya looked at her in shock. He hadn't expected her to be so direct with him. He didn't want her to see him in such a vulnerable state, but at the same time, he remembered the promise they had made to each other. She wanted to honor that promise and Tenya could only respect that.
"Alright, we'll be leaving this instant then," he declared. "Let me just settle things with the teachers and we'll be off to the train station."
Fey agreed and Tenya took her by the hand and led her towards the rafters. There, he took Midoriya and Ochaco aside. He explained the situation to them, telling them that his brother had been injured by a villain and that he needed to leave for Hosu City right away.
"Wait, you're saying Ingenium is hurt?" Midoriya said in a shocked tone.
"Yes..." Tenya answered gravely.
"Do they think he's going to be okay?" Ochaco asked worryingly.
"I don't know many details yet... That's why... I have to leave immediately."
Izuku and Ochaco stared at him with concerned eyes, then turned towards Fey.
"You're going with him, Fey?" Deku asked.
Fey simply nodded. Midoriya and Ochaco only noticed now that the two of them had been holding hands the whole time Tenya had been explaining the situation to him.
After informing their friends, Tenya went to the teachers and explained to them what was going on with his family. They instantly understood and sent him off to meet with his family. Once things were settled at the festival, they both got changed and made their way towards the train station together. No words were exchanged for the whole trip. Fey didn't want to pry into Tenya's mind while he was still processing everything that was unfolding. She could feel him squeeze her hand once in a while, silently letting her know that he appreciated her coming with him.
They reached Hosu City in the evening and made their way to the hospital once they got off the train. Once they had arrived, Tenya went to the front desk to ask for Tensei's room. Once the hospital staff gave him his brother's room, he started to run through the halls. Fey followed suit with the receptionist yelling for them not to run in the hospital. But her efforts were futile. Fey knew how urgently Tenya needed to see his brother so she ran after him as fast as she could. Once they were in proximity of Tensei's room, Tenya slowed down, calling for his mother who was standing next to the door leading to his brother's room. Fey lingered behind him as he ran to meet her.
"How is Tensei doing?!" he asked urgently.
He barely left her any time to respond to him before opening the door to his brother's room.
"BROTHER!"
"Tenya, keep your voice down and put on a mask," his mother replied, pulling up her own mask over her face.
Tenya ignored his mother's words as he barged into the room. What Fey and Tenya saw shook them to the core. Lying on a hospital bed was Tenya's older brother, Tensei. He had just had major surgery done to multiple parts of his body. A wide variety of bandages covered his entire body, including his skull which seemed to have been completely shaved. He was in so much worse shape than Fey had anticipated, and seeing Tenya's reaction only made it that much worse to witness. His mother crumbled to the floor seeing her son in so much pain at the sight of his brother. Fey thought about comforting her but decided against it since she had never met her. She stayed outside in the hallway while Tenya went to his brother's bedside.
The doctor in the room explained that the anesthesia from the surgery was wearing off and that Tensei was in and out of consciousness. He also stated that if Tensei had had his surgery any later than he did, he probably wouldn't have made it.
"Little brother," he called out in a raspy voice. "Is that you?"
"Tensei!" Tenya exclaimed as he hovered over his bedside. "You're going to be fine." He said this both to convince his brother as much as himself.
"I'm sorry..." Tensei apologized. "I'm supposed to be someone you can look up to... and respect... but look at me..."
It was almost impossible to bear to see Tenya in the state that he was in. It broke her heart to see him in such a vulnerable and broken state. She couldn't hold back her tears as Tenya's own eyes filled up with water.
"Tenya... Little brother..." Tensei continued. "I'm so sorry... I failed you."
Fey broke down at the same time Tenya did. She covered her mouth trying to suppress her sobs but it was all too much for her. She knew there was nothing she could do for him, for any of them. As she sobbed in the corridor, she attracted the attention of Tenya's mother, who looked at her in confusion through wet tears. She got up from the floor, realizing that she was not alone, and wiped away her tears as she approached Fey.
"Are you... one of Tenya's friends?" she asked in a shaky voice.
Fey could only manage to nod as she fought back her cries. She tried to wipe away her tears, but only more came. She wanted so badly just to take them all into her arms and tell them that everything was going to be okay. But she couldn't say that. She had no idea if Tensei was going to pull through or not and she didn't want to put Tenya's family through what she had gone through when her own father had passed away.
"I-I'm..." Fey tried to speak. "I'm sorry if I'm intruding... I just wanted to be there for Tenya."
She looked back at him still sobbing by his brother's bedside. The sight of him just started her sobs back up, even though she tried as hard as she could to keep some semblance of composure in front of Tenya's mother.
"I-I'm... so sorry... for what you are all going through."
Her weeping only seemed to make Tenya's mother cry even more. Before they knew it, they were in each others' arms comforting one another, even though they were complete strangers. Tenya eventually turned towards them, seeing them intertwined in an embrace. He quickly joined them and took the pair of them into his arms. Fey grabbed at Tenya's shirt tightly, pulling him as close as she could towards her. She wanted him to know that, no matter what happened, she was going to be there for him every step of the way.
