Later that day, arrangements had been made so that Tenya and Fey would be moved to one of the Iida's vacation homes while things were being handled back in Musutafu. While they were being transported there, Fey had called her mother to tell her that they were being threatened by villains and that Tenya's family was going to be moving them for their own safety. She didn't tell her the whole story though, promising her that she would tell her everything once they were reunited. She didn't want to overwhelm her mother with too much information as the situation was going to be stressful enough as it is, and she worried about the impact it was going to have on her health.
As Fey was finishing up her phone call, Tenya tapped her on the shoulder to signal her that they had arrived at the marina. A boat was waiting to take them to a private island where Tenya's family had built a vacation home there. Fey was expecting a small-sized boat to be waiting for them. Instead, she was greeted by a small yacht moored to one of the piers. Their bodyguard ushered them towards the boat but Fey was too distracted by everything she was seeing. Tenya gently wrapped his arm around her shoulders to move her towards the yacht.
"Holy shit Tenya, how much money does your family have?" she commented, still trying to wrap her head around how rich they were.
"Now is not the time to be talking about these things," Tenya answered curtly. "We need to move quickly before we are spotted."
"R-Right, sorry about that…"
She shook her head and focused on the task at hand. Their bodyguard helped them embark on the yacht before moving towards the helm. Tenya brought Fey inside so they would be safe from prying eyes. Once inside, the boat started to move and they made their way towards the island.
After a short boat ride, the two of them arrived at their destination. Once the boat had been secured, Tenya and Fey were ushered again by their bodyguard towards the house that had been built on the island. Although the house was smaller than Tenya's main residence, it was still nicely built and the patch of land it was situated on was lush with all sorts of tropical greenery. Were it not for their current situation, Fey would have considered herself lucky to stay in such a nice looking place.
"Wow… It's so peaceful here," she said, her eyes twinkling like stars.
Tenya smiled faintly. "It's a shame we're here on such grim business…"
Fey nodded in agreement as Tenya brought her into the house once their bodyguard had finished his initial sweep. As they entered the house, they were greeted by someone they did not expect to be there.
"It is good to see you here, Master Tenya."
"Futaba-san?" Tenya looked surprised to see her. "I was not made aware of your presence here."
"Your father wished for me to accompany you both so that you would be properly taken care of while he dealt with the situation back home," she explained.
"I see… Well, it is a relief to see another friendly face around, that's for sure."
Fey thought it was odd that they weren't made aware that Futaba would be staying with them at the vacation house, but she figured that if she was here, it was probably because Tenya's family trusted her, so she pushed the thought away.
As the two of them got settled in, Futaba prepared some tea for the pair. While she was preparing it, their bodyguard stepped out of the house to do his rounds. Meanwhile, Tenya sat next to Fey in the living room, holding her hands to reassure her.
"You look worried, my Star," he said with concern in his voice.
"I'm worried for my family," she admitted. "They must be so confused as to what is happening. I couldn't bring myself to tell my mother the whole story while we were on the phone…"
"I understand. Perhaps there is something we can do to keep ourselves busy…"
"Oh? And what would that be, pray tell?"
She smirked as he turned away to grab something sitting on the floor next to the sofa. He then pulled out a few textbooks that he had brought in a bag and Fey's expression quickly changed. She had been expecting something else entirely.
"I've brought the necessary material for us to continue with our studies," he explained, smiling proudly. "After all, we will still have to pass Final Exams once all of this is cleared up."
Fey blinked a few times, almost not believing that, even in a crisis, Tenya's mind was still thinking about school and his education. She burst out laughing, prompting a very confused look from Tenya.
"It's a great idea, Tenya. Good thinking."
Tenya felt an overwhelming fuzzy feeling overcome him as she praised him. He felt so proud of his idea and was really glad that she approved. While Fey sat on the couch, Tenya started pacing with his textbook in hand as he read her a few chapters. Moving around helped him to concentrate better on his studies, and he enjoyed having such a diligent pupil watching and listening to him attentively. As they continued their studies, Futaba finally arrived with their tea.
"Your tea, sir."
"Many thanks, Futaba-san," thanked Tenya.
She bowed politely before leaving them to their studies. Fey started pouring them two cups of tea while Tenya continued his lecture. She smiled as she looked up at him. It made her smile how much he was dedicated to his tutoring. She could tell that he took a lot of pride in helping her succeed in her academic studies. But as he finished quizzing her on the contents of their last chapter, his attention quickly shifted elsewhere.
"That's odd," he commented.
"What is?" Fey asked inquisitively.
"It's been a while since our bodyguard left to do his rounds… He hasn't returned in some time."
"Maybe he just didn't want to disturb our study sessions? He might just be in the house somewhere."
She did find it strange that he hadn't reported back to Tenya in a while. She looked at him with concern, wondering if something had happened to the guard. Tenya seemed calm though, so she wasn't too worried about it.
"I'm going to have a look around, see if I can find him," he said with a calm voice, walking towards the patio door.
Fey was going to tell him that she would come with him, but he had already gone outside. She shrugged her shoulders, trying to push her worries aside. She tried convincing herself that they were safe here, that nothing bad was going to happen. To help her with her nerves, she took a few sips of tea, then sank back into the sofa, sighing contentedly.
Meanwhile, Tenya walked around the house in search of the bodyguard that had accompanied them to the island. The air was getting warm as summer approached and Tenya found himself enjoying the breeze for a moment. The current situation made it hard for him to enjoy being here, so he figured they would return together when things would calm down and they would have some free time. After stopping for a few seconds, he continued on his search. A few minutes had passed and he still couldn't find the guard. He figured he must have gone inside the house without him noticing, and as he made his way back to the house, he noticed that all the lights had been shut off inside. Tenya found this particularly odd and could feel it in his gut that something was wrong. He rushed towards the house with even more urgency, busting through the door as he called out for Fey.
"FEY?!" he shouted into the darkness.
"Tenya…"
He could hear Fey's trembling voice coming from around the corner. He stepped forward to join her, but immediately stopped when he saw her appear from around the corner with a blade to her neck. Holding her in front of her was none other than Futaba, his maid, who had materialized a blade from the inside of her wrist thanks to her quirk.
"Futaba-san?!" Tenya spoke in shock.
"You just had to go and get suspicious, didn't you?" Futaba said in an annoyed tone.
"Let her go!"
"I don't think I will…" She smiled sinisterly.
"T-Tenya…" Fey said in a weak voice. She seemed like she could barely stand up. "She… she put something in the tea…"
Tenya glowered at his maid with rage-filled eyes. He knew that he couldn't move or else it would probably set her off and she would invariably slash Fey's throat. He clenched his fists in anger, visibly shaking from all the rage that was bubbling up inside of him.
"What have you done with our bodyguard?!" he yelled in a commanding tone.
"Oh he's off enjoying a little nap," she snickered. "I had to keep him alive, or else I would have no one to pin this on…"
"Why are you doing this?! We welcomed you into our home, treated you as one of our own! We've done nothing to warrant such treacherous actions from you!"
"I'm merely following orders… See, I had initially been sent by my uncle to keep an eye on the illustrious Iida family, but when he figured out that one of his protegees had been in contact with one of their sons, he immediately called upon me to resolve the issue…"
Tenya stared at her with contempt. So she had been a villain this whole time… He couldn't believe he and his family had been so blind to her ruse. He looked at Fey worryingly, seeing her barely hold on to consciousness. The more she faltered, the more she leaned onto Futaba's blade, which was slowly digging into her skin. Tenya felt so helpless. He knew he couldn't get to her in time without using his quirk against Futaba, but he also couldn't do that without going against what Tsuragamae had told him back in Hosu. It wasn't his place yet to harm villains using his quirk, even though his life or the ones that he loved were in danger. He knew he had to abide by this if he wanted to redeem himself… but seeing his love so helpless against this treacherous woman's actions made his blood boil. He didn't know what to do and this only served to make him even more angry. Finally, when he thought all was lost, something coming from behind Futaba and Fey attracted his attention. Upon further inspection, Tenya realized that it was his bodyguard shuffling out of a room with his taser drawn. He knew he needed to separate Fey from Futaba quickly before he would shoot at her, or else she could convulse and slit her throat on Futaba's blade. He stared at the maid with a serious gaze, trying not to betray his comrade away.
"Please! She and her family have suffered enough!" Tenya pleaded. "Let her go!"
"I don't think so," Futaba responded. "She knows too much and besides, my uncle wouldn't take kindly to me failing my-"
She heard the sound of a taser priming itself and Tenya took this as his signal to move in. He activated his quirk and swiftly grabbed Futaba's blade with his bare hand. He could feel the blade cut open his hand as blood started to pour out, but at least Fey was safe. He threw back her arm and as he pulled Fey towards him, he saw the prongs of his bodyguard's taser shoot towards Futaba, hitting her in the back and delivering her a powerful shock of electricity. She immediately went down, convulsing on the ground until she was completely unconscious. The guard shuffled towards the pair with his finger still on the trigger in case she woke up.
"Forgive me, Master Tenya… She had served me a glass of water, but before I could even realize that she had poisoned it, I was knocked out cold… 'Tis a shameful display of my skills as a protector for the Iida family…"
"It is quite alright," Tenya answered. "We were all bamboozled by this… villainous woman." He turned his attention towards Fey. "Are you alright, my Star? You're not hurt, are you?"
"I'm… fine," she answered in a tired voice. "But you… you're bleeding… Tenya…"
He looked over at his left hand, wincing slightly at the wound that was bleeding all over the floor.
"I'll be alright, my Star," he reassured her. "We should be getting you to a hospital. We have no idea what kind of poison she used to subdue you."
"I'll call for a helicopter to transport us to the hospital, Master Tenya," the guard said dutifully.
Tenya nodded and set Fey down on the crouch before aiding the guard in apprehending the maid.
Once the authorities arrived, the police took Futaba away and a medical team helicoptered the three of them to the nearest hospital. Fey had already started to recover from her poisoning, but they still ran some tests to make sure that her body was properly processing it out. Tenya also received treatment for his slashed hand. Once he had been bandaged up, he called his father to tell him what had happened at the safehouse. They had a long conversation before Tenya hung up on him and returned to Fey's side.
"My father is absolutely furious at himself for allowing such a scoundrel into our home," Tenya explained. "Of all the maids under our employ, Futaba was the most caring of all… I suppose it was all just an elaborate ruse to lull us into a false sense of security…"
"It's not any of your faults," Fey replied. "You couldn't have possibly known what her true intentions were. Plus, what are the odds that she would be directly connected to the man I've been working for this whole time…"
"I must admit that it is… quite the coincidence indeed. But speaking of which, my father had some news to share regarding your place of work."
"Please tell me!"
"Well, my father has quite a few contacts within the police force… After getting in touch with them, he tipped them off about the place where you had been working all this time. It turns out that the villains that you were working for were actually in the business of trafficking people with 'exotic' looking quirks. After discovering this, the police apprehended them and had the place shut down."
"Wait you're saying that… that I won't have to go back there… ever again?"
Her last words were a bit shaky as her eyes started to water. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had endured that place for what seemed like an eternity and now, Tenya was saying that it had been shut down by the authorities. The news about the human trafficking ring obviously shocked her, but not as much as the news that she was finally going to be free of that horrible place.
"That's exactly what I'm saying, my love," Tenya smiled, cupping her cheek with his hand.
Fey started sobbing, throwing her arms around Tenya's neck as she took him into her arms.
"I can't believe it…" she whispered. "I'm… I'm finally free."
The villains had all been apprehended by the Musutafu police force by the end of the next day. Their operations were being dismantled by the police thanks to the information Fey had given Tenya's family and by the end of the weekend, the threat against them had been completely neutralized. Fey could scarcely believe that she wouldn't have to deal with these people anymore, that she wouldn't be trapped by them, but there was still an issue that remained: she was suddenly out of a job. How was she going to support her family without having to work? She couldn't work a normal job, not with the summer camp coming up. And besides, with everything that had been going on lately at U.A., Fey realized that it wouldn't be feasible anymore to work while she went to school. Of course, she was incredibly grateful for the help that the Iida Family had provided, despite them barely knowing her and never having met her family, but she couldn't help but dread what was waiting for her in the wake of what had just transpired.
At the end of the last day of the weekend, Fey was reunited with her mother and three sisters. She explained to them the entire story, how she had gotten a job at the strip club to help pay for expenses while she went to school, how her boss had threatened her and Tenya and how the whole operation had been a success. Her mother shed tears, knowing now how much her daughter had gone through and sacrificed just so that her family could have some semblance of a normal life. She wasn't mad at her at all, just relieved that all of it had been resolved.
Once Fey had talked with her family, she was invited back to Iida's house by his parents. She left for their home as soon as possible, arriving about half an hour later in front of Tenya's doorstep. He greeted her at the door before leading her towards the living room. His parents and surprisingly Tensei as well were all waiting for her in the living room. Tensei was sitting in a wheelchair with bandages wrapped around different parts of his body, but all things considered, he was in better shape than when she had initially seen him at the hospital.
"It's good to see you again, Fey," he said to her with a gentle smile. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm doing fine, sir," she timidly answered.
"Please, no need to call me 'sir'." He laughed. "We are family now, after all."
"I called you here for an important reason…" Tenya's father said. "I've talked with a few of our contacts regarding your family's situation, specifically regarding your mother's illness…"
Fey could feel her heart constricting itself in her chest. She had a creeping suspicion of what was about to happen, but her mind absolutely refused to accept that it was the case. She gripped at her heart with one hand, already feeling her eyes stinging from the tears that would surely be coming very soon.
"It's unfair that you've both been placed in such terrible circumstances," he continued with a sigh. "It's clear to me from talking with you and from talking to your family that you all deserve better and-"
"Please…" Fey whispered. "You can't… I just can't…"
She knew exactly where he was going and couldn't handle the emotional toll it was taking on her. She felt as though her heart was going to explode and gripped at it even tighter as she lowered her head.
"You've already done so much for us…" she whimpered, her shoulders shaking from her fighting the urge to burst out crying. "I can't ask anymore of you… I cannot accept any more help from you and your family…"
She wiped away a few tears that had managed to creep their way onto her cheeks.
"You barely know me… and I've been nothing but trouble for you and your son. The simple fact that he's still here, standing next to me, is nothing short of a miracle to me. So please… I can't ask for any more help from you… You've done more than enough as it is."
There was a long pause where Tenya and his family all looked at each other. Tenya's father eventually stepped forward, placing his hand on her shoulder.
"This isn't about you asking us for our help, Fey," he said calmly. "This is about us helping out people in need, people who've been unjustly dealt a bad hand in life and who deserve a second chance. Our family has been helping people like you for generations now. It's our duty to help those who need it most, especially when it comes to family… So starting tomorrow, your mother is going to be receiving the treatment she needs in order to cure her illness."
Fey released a breath she hadn't noticed she was holding, gasping loudly at what he had just said. It felt so surreal, she pinched herself just to make sure she hadn't been dreaming when she heard him say those words.
"I've also taken the liberty of ensuring that your family is going to have access to financial aid, so you can focus on your studies at U.A."
She felt her legs give out as she received the news. Tenya rushed to her side, making sure that she was okay.
"My love! Are you alright?" he asked her in a concerned voice.
Fey could barely breathe, let alone speak. Her sobs were erratic and loud as she completely broke down in front of Tenya's family.
"I… I don't know what to say…" she managed to say between breaths.
Tenya's father crouched down to smile at her, taking her into his arms.
"Just promise me that you'll do your best to realize your dream," he asked her in a gentle voice.
"I-I will! Thank you… Thank you all so much!"
