"Christian, have you given any thought to what I talked about?" Dr. Kensington said as he leaned against the counter. Christian kept his eyes on his hands before he pasted on a smile and slid from the chair.

"I heard you clear the first time Dr. K. I just don't think I can go through chemo again."

Sighing, The doctor set down his clipboard.

"Listen, son. Just like the last time we caught it early. We can do the same this time. I just need you to-"

"I've got to head out. I'll be in for my monthly check-up." The doctor sighed before speaking.

"Christian. I know it was hard."

"Do you?" he snapped out, harshly. The man nodded solemnly.

"I do, son. I was there when you and your family were suffering. But we can fix this."

Christian looked away willing his tears back.

"You said that last time. Look, I just want to enjoy what little bit of life I have left."

"If you ignore this, you've only got a year tops. But with this treatment, you can have so many more years. You shouldn't take that away from your family."

Not sticking around to hear anymore, Christian opened the door and strode out of the hospital. He was trying to avoid seeing his mother, but he knew that wouldn't be virtually impossible.

Because she was waiting for him at the elevator.

"Mom, what are you doing here," he said before leaning over and kissing her cheek. She rolled her eyes before grabbing his arm and steering him towards her office.

"I knew you had an appointment scheduled, and I also knew you chose a time you'd think I'd be in surgery. Which is why I gave you a false time," Grace said winking up at her now laughing son. He stopped walking. He was afraid of what he would reveal if he sat down with his mother and looked her in the eye.

Like I have cancer again, and may not be here this time next year.

"How was your check-up?"

"Good," he said making sure to act as if nothing was amiss. "Dr. K just wanted to do some bloodwork and see if everything is fine. Which is was," he said feeling guilty with the look of relief that came over his mother's eyes. She reached up and patted his cheek.

"I'm so glad, Christian. Now-"

"I've got to head out, mother. I will see you later."

Ana was annoyed. She was back at her new office trying to make sure she was re-reading the green initiative plan when she got an email from Christian. He said it was urgent concerning her business deal so she grabbed a cab to make it over to his office. She didn't even know why she bothered to hustle.

"What is so urgent that I am needed for in person? You couldn't tell me over email or phone?"

He smirked and stood from his office chair before walking over to her and kissing her cheek. Ana frowned when she saw he was a bit paler than usual.

"Are you okay?" she asked concerned. He snorted.

"Yeah. Just had something bad for lunch. Now I called you over here because It is very important you are here for what I'm about to say next."

Crossing her arms over her chest she sighed.

"Alright, let's hear it."
He sighed.

"I want you to become one of the company lawyers for Grey Enterprises." Ana's mouth opened in shock and she shook her head as if to clear it.

"Christian, I can't be a corporate lawyer! I mean I can, it's what I am, but I told you that the legal aid offices are inundated with clients and they need-"

"You can still do the work down there. I will even allow Grey Enterprises to take on some of those cases free. It looks good to have some charity cases on the books. Besides, it opens up more chances for donations."

"You're crazy! Have you even spoken with Ros about this?"

"Actually I have and she is in total agreement with me. You are level-headed, very articulate, and you'll get the job done. You're not impressed with numbers and suits, and the current team I have is making a mockery of my company."

"You mean Jose and his team?"

"Not him necessarily, but a couple of his co-workers. Ana, it's no secret I am going to hire him on. I can't stand the guy, but he's a good lawyer and he knows what he's talking about."

"Yeah," Ana muttered.

"But," Christian added, "I've seen some of the work done by some of the employees he works with, and it's unprofessional. That is why I am making you a supervising lawyer. You are in charge. You will make sure we have the right team and in return, Jose will learn to vet the team he builds and not because he's a good friend."

"Christian, what's this really about?"

"What I just said. I want a good law team. I know you'll make sure my wishes are being carried out. It's more money, and you can still do philanthropic work. Now, how does that sound?"

She barked out a laugh.

"It sounds insane and too good to be true. I need at least a week to think about this."

"I figured you'd say that." Walking back over to his desk he opened a drawer and pulled out an envelope.

"What's that?"

Leaning against the desk he crossed his feet at the ankle and his hands over his massive chest.

"Oh, that? Sitting on the desk is two tickets to Hvar."

"Hvar? Isn't that in-"

"Croatia? Yes, it is. It's for a week. I figured you and I can go, grab some sun, have a good time, and you can decide on when you'll start working for me," he said a bit arrogantly. Ana smiled before glancing away. Christian pushed off the desk and walked until he was in front of her. He placed his hands on her waist and pulled her flush against his body.

"Say yes, Ana."

She placed her hands on his shoulders before glancing up at him.

"Christian, It's just too much."

"How is it too much. I want to spend as much time with you as I can. Before work takes away anytime we have left," Christian said quickly. She rubbed his chest before her lips tilted a bit at the corner.

"Only a week?"

"Yes. We can leave the day after tomorrow."

"I don't even know the weather, I haven't been shopping, I-"

"Don't pack anything. Just go with me. Come on Ana, live a little. Take a chance with me." She looked into his eyes and saw nothing but warmth and honesty. She didn't know what it was about Christian Grey, but it was something special that had her nodding her head in agreement.

"Fine. But Christian, I want you to give me some serious time to think about this. No pressuring."

Hands held out in a peaceful gesture he nodded.

"Hey, I get it. Besides, you can sign the papers when we return back."

"Christian Grey!"
