This story was prompted by an article I read that had a lot of spoilers for the 2nd Downton Abbey movie so...this summary isn't going to have much in it other than to say...don't read it if you don't want to be spoiled about Charles and Elsie.

Many characters, upstairs and down, have a great importance in Matthew's recovery, during 1917, late 1918 and beyond. War has a way of distinguishing what is important and what isn't. The Dowager Countess is ailing & must finally and fully relinquish the reins of the past to the remaining Old Guard. Chelsie-centric, but this does not start nor end where you might expect. Familiarity with other BTF stories recommended. Aligns with previously outlined timelines & headcanon post S4. Rating increases to M from Chapter 2. Pt.E or F- for adult themes&actions.
