Chapter 1: Back

Regret…

Something that everyone felt at some point in their lives…

No matter how important, or how trivial, the decision; you often ended up wondering what could have been. How you could've changed your future…

You could think about those embarrassing times in your childhood, or about something stupid you'd said to your crush.

In the end… everyone had regrets.

And Ron Stoppable was far from an exception…

The blonde's head was throbbing, his forehead scraping against the hard ground. His palms were balled into fists, bleeding badly. No surprise, after having slammed them over and over into the now-pulverized rock that stood before him.

He was completely alone, after the worst nightmare that he'd ever witnessed. It was supposed to have been a happy day. For both himself, as well as Kim. But the painful truth was more than he could bear.

"Kim…" The name that had always brought him joy, now left the bitter and metallic taste of blood in his mouth. His best friend and partner, for so many years, Kim Possible… was gone.

All because of that bastard! The blonde boy could feel his blood boiling again, remembering the fake smile. He'd managed to fool his best friend into lowering her guard, enough for him to…

Just how had that night changed from going to the dance, to fighting for their very lives? It had been just another one of many plots, by a madman that wanted to end the winning streak of Team Possible.

Ron lifted his head off of the ground, the cold night air hitting his forehead. His face was dirty, two clear tracks of tears running down from his eyes. His mission uniform was damaged beyond repair, barely able to hold together anymore.

His slumped body no longer contained the strength to move… What was the point? With Kim out of the picture, did he even have any reason to continue fighting? The pain of seeing her brought down was not something he wanted to remember… But Ron doubted he'd ever be able to forget it, even if he tried.

The cold wind pressed against his back, pushing him. He lurched forward, slamming his hurt hands into rubble to stop himself. The wind almost seemed as if it was whispering into his ear, as it howled around him. 'There's nothing I can do…' the blonde teen despaired, the wind growing ever stronger.

Ron refused to listen to the wind, or the pain in his back trying to force him to move his body. He had no reason to listen… no reason to get up… no reason to stay.

The wind suddenly stopped completely, leaving the blond teen's world completely silent. He just wanted to be left alone. Before Ron could sink even deeper into his despair, he heard a near-silent whisper in his ear. He turned his head to the side, spotting something laying on the ground next to him.

A crude statue of a monkey, that was what it was to anyone else. …except for the very few who knew of the truth behind its origins. It was one of the reasons for all of this happening in the first place.

For some reason he'd had it with him when he'd been blasted off the madman's lair. But he couldn't remember why… he couldn't focus.

'The Monkey Idol…', another one of the ridiculous items that Monkey Fist had insisted would give him ultimate power. An object that would make him into a god… what a joke… He was just another nutjob, looking for power in his own insane way.

But, if that was the case… why did he feel some sort of pull emanating from it?

Ron examined the small thing more closely. It had seen better days, judging from all the cracks and bits that were falling off of it.

'Ah, good riddance…' he groused. This thing had brought only bad luck to everyone who'd tried to use its power.

Ron didn't know why, but he was certain that the statue was losing its energy… The idol's glowing eyes were starting to lose what little luminescence they had left.

The blonde teen could still hear it, the faint whisper in his ear slowly growing quieter… Like it was moments away from dying out completely. It was calling out to him, pleading for him to move.

'Save… change…' echoed in his mind.

Ron wasn't sure what it was, but some force compelled him to stand in front of the artifact. Looking down upon it for a moment, his hand reached forward and grabbed. It began crumbling in his hand.

'Wish… wish… wish…' the faint chant whispered in his mind. It was an old voice, a weak voice… and oh so very tired.

"Wish?" Ron asked. He wasn't interested in wishes anymore… he didn't have a reason for them any longer.

'Wish… wish…' the voice continued, even weaker than before. More pieces broke off.

"What's the point?" the blonde sidekick asked.

'Wish…' There was almost nothing left of the idol now, even the voice had stopped.

"Wish?" what a laughable suggestion… There was only one thing he wanted.

A smiling face appeared in his mind for a brief moment, it brought tears to his eyes. He felt the monkey idol fall apart completely in his hands, dissolving away into the wind.

His body felt weaker than before, he fell backwards. But instead of the hard ground, he just kept falling. Everything faded to black.

'Kim…'

X-=-=-=-=-X

The world was turning and thrashing all around him. His mind was exploding, on the verge of fainting, all the while fighting the pain enveloping his body. It was as if he was taking blows from an invisible enemy, one unable to show him any mercy. His skin was burning and freezing, all at the same time. He found himself unable to breathe, or even think about what was happening to him.

There was no way to fight it… No way to escape from this torment… All he could attempt to do, was to endure it as best he could. Or, until his mind and body was broken… He wasn't sure what would give first.

The pain was growing even stronger, threatening to rend his form to shreds. He wanted to scream! Anything to relieve this endless torment!

'This pain is nothing compared to-' The thought brought his focus back, his eyes opening in terror a second later.

The blonde boy was breathing loudly, as if to take in as much air as he could. He prepared for the pain to attack him again, before noticing that he was staring at a familiar-looking ceiling.

The blonde teen glanced at the room around him, relieved that he was free from pain for the moment. The room was one he knew well, but also one that he never thought he'd ever see again. This was his room! The one that had been destroyed!

It was weird! It was great! Maybe he'd believed that it had been ruined but, in reality, it had been the house next to his? Or was this another plot, to mess with his mind?

Ron's musings on his bizarre situation were interrupted by a few knocks on the door to his room. It opened slowly, a woman walking in.

She had short blonde hair and was wearing a pair of white pajamas, she looked slightly worried. "Honey, are you okay?" the woman asked, her voice cementing her identity.

"M-Mom?" Ron asked. It was her, without a shadow of a doubt. The woman who'd raised him to be who he was, even if she'd had a lot on her mind at the time.

The older Stoppable hurriedly moved closer, sitting down next to her only son. "Did you have a nightmare?" the woman asked, her voice gentle.

"A nightmare?" the blonde parroted, his voice coming out far more shaken than he'd meant it to. 'A nightmare? Does she think I'm still a little kid?'

"Yes… was it scary?" she asked. The boy moved to rise, her hand landed on his shoulder. "It's okay honey… Mommy is here." The blonde woman hugged him closely to her chest.

It was only now that Ron noticed how much bigger his mother was than him. She'd always been taller than both him and his father, but never like this! It was almost like he was a kid again!

His eyes roamed the room around him, as he squirmed in his mother's embrace. "I-I'm okay Mom… I was… just surprised…" he spoke up, his voice significantly less raspy than before.

"Oh? Is my Ronnie a big boy already?" She patted his head gently, looking down at him with a smile. "You don't have to be ashamed. If you had a bad dream, you can always come and sleep with Mommy and Daddy! Now, do you want to tell me what it was about?" she asked, receiving a no from her boy. The blonde woman made sure he was okay one last time, before heading back to her own room. She shot Ron one last smile, before wishing him a goodnight.

Ron crawled off of his bed, listening for signs that the older woman was still awake. She was… but she was merely talking to his father, to inform him of the "dream" he'd had. She was clearly stalling, delaying her own rest, to make sure her young boy really didn't need her.

'Okay. Now… what the hell is going on?' Ron looked around himself. He wasn't dreaming, or in some sort of simulation, not from what he could tell. Stranger yet, his room didn't look like this… Everything seemed way too childish… even for him. There were a lot of posters of superheroes and monsters, from different movies that he used to love. One thing that was missing was the most noticeable difference of all… there were no pictures of him and Kim anywhere in sight! Like there was any idiot out there who would be able to forget, if Kim had been their best friend and partner! 'So, everything here is fake' the blonde boy concluded, before noticing another oversight on his part… He felt different. Almost smaller, or shorter… "That's just crazy-" The blonde sidekick looked at his hands, only to see a much smaller pair. As opposed to his regular-sized ones. "What?" His head moved to check the rest of his body, only to notice one impossible fact.

"I've been shrunk!" he called out in a childlike voice, waiting for something to happen. 'Nothing… Maybe this is another one of Drakken's stupid schemes?' the boy guessed. His eyes started to grow very tired, for some reason. He wasn't sure if his previous pain was to blame, or his current confusion… He seriously needed to understand this situation.

"Well, I won't be able to figure it out while I'm so out of it…" the blonde sidekick mused, moving back to the bed. He'd figure it out, even if he had to sleep with one eye open and wait for whoever was responsible to make their move!

The sun peeked out from behind the clouds, a single ray of sunlight piercing its way between the blinds. The light hit the blonde boy in the face.

His eyes opened slowly in annoyance, he glancing at the room around him. 'Still here? Damn it…' he hissed. The boy had tried as hard as he could to keep himself awake last night, but even he was out like a light at some point. He was sure nobody had entered the room after he'd fallen asleep, doing so would probably have woken him instantly.

Ron got up from his bed, surprised that he didn't feel any of the pain from yesterday. That came as a big relief… he wasn't sure if he could take that again.

"Good morning, sleepy head!" the happy tone of his mother greeted, his door opening. "Oh, you're already awake!" the older blonde woman observed, smiling.

"Y-Yeah, I am…" Ron answered, looking away. Why was she acting so weird? His mother wasn't one to wake him up in the morning… That job was reserved for Kim, or Rufus. So, her waking him up was definitely not right.

"I see. I bet your really excited about your big day, right?" his mother gushed, Ron looked confused.

"My… big day?"

"That's right, today is your first day of preschool! So, we've got to get you ready and there on time! Now get dressed and ready, okay?! Your father and I will be waiting for you downstairs!" the woman exclaimed, exiting the room and closing the door.

Ron just stared at the door to his room, watching it shut with a silent click. He didn't speak, just standing there. His mind seemed to shut down completely, taking a few moments to restart.

"What?"

X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X

The blonde boy walked hand in hand with his mother, exiting the house. After failing to go down to have breakfast with his parents, his mother had returned to his room. She'd dragged him down the stairs, gushing at just how cute he was for being scared of his first day.

They both told him he'd have a lot of fun, that he'd make a ton of friends there. They'd made sure he'd had some pancakes, just the way he liked them. After ensuring he was properly dressed, his mother escorted him outside. She drove them to their destination, the blonde boy staring out of the backseat window.

It was the same familiar road, the regular scenery all around him… That had been his old room… They were his parents, just younger-looking… His body was smaller. There were too many signs that seemed real to him… But that couldn't be right! If it was, then that could only mean that he really was-

"Okay, here we are!" the older woman sang. She parked her car and helped him exit. His mother attempted to go in with him, but was stopped by the teacher.

Ron didn't wait, entering inside. Looking around him, he took in the sight of kids running around… Some were crying, a few were just standing in the corner looking frightened. A few older women wore a uniform, clearly working there, they were busy running around and taking names.

He continued onwards to the outside area… He had to take a moment, to marvel at this extremely unbelievable situation. He stood inside the empty playground, an ideal location for him at the moment. "Okay… now… where do I even begin?!" He wanted to pull his hair out from the sheer madness of what he'd seen. The only thing that kept him going, was the fact that this was too crazy to be real. It had to be fake!

It wasn't the first time that he or Kim had been stuck in a simulation of some kind!

"Hey!" someone called out from behind the blonde.

Ron was too busy to notice, mumbling to himself. He was still trying to understand who was responsible for his issue, as well as just how he would get out of it.

"Hello?" the voice tried again, only louder now that the person was closer.

'No… it couldn't have been Monkey Fist… He's too dumb. That, and he would insist on seeing me suffer because of him. Or, it's-'

"Stop ignoring me!" the one behind him called out in anger, he nearly jumped out of his skin.

"Wha!" Ron turn around in worry, preparing for an incoming attack. He'd even dropped into his favorite stance, but was left shocked as to who the one who'd called him out of his stupor was. She was just a little girl, now standing very close to him.

"So, you finally decided to notice me?" the girl groused, her hands on her hips. "Took you long enough!" she huffed in annoyance.

Ron's eyes almost popped out of his skull, he just stared at her. She was short, even more so than he was, with tanned skin and long brown hair. She wore a purple dress and white shoes, on her head was a small blue hairpin. Her teal-colored eyes stared at him angrily, a sight that was simultaneously so familiar, yet so foreign.

"B-Bonbon?" was the only thing to escape his mouth, too shocked to say anything else. There was not a shred of doubt in his mind that this was Bonnie Rockwaller! The Queen B of Middleton High! And the very one who'd made it her mission in life to butt heads with Kim over everything, as well as to insult him every chance she got!

She suddenly smiled at him, a hint of surprise on her face. "B-Bonbon?" she asked.

"Ahh, well… It just… fits you?" he responded, unsure.

The short brunette stared at him for a moment, as if thinking about something. "Bonbon… Bonbon… It's cute… I like it!" she declared. She closed the remaining distance between them, before wrapping her arms around the confused boy. "Thank you, Ron!"

Ron just stood there as the girl hugged him as tightly as she could, even rubbing her face against his neck. "I'm so happy we're in the same class! You know, I had to ask my mom for it!" the young Bonnie informed.

'What the hell is going on?!' he screamed in his mind. "You-You don't say…"

"I know!" The girl moved away from him, smiling broadly in such an innocent way that he found it hard to believe that she was even the same person. "Why do you look so surprised to see me? You came over to play with me last Sunday!" she reminded.

'I did WHAT?!' he yelped, even more amazed than before. He finally noticed that there was someone standing behind the small brunette.

"This is my new friend, Tara!" Bonnie introduced the girl behind her to Ron, Tara was completely different from her normal self. Said blonde girl was much shorter, for a start. Her body completely lacked the pleasing curves he was used to, she looked like a little kid! She seemed innocent, as well as timid around everyone.

"N-New friend?" the blonde boy asked, this raising a fresh alarm in his mind. Wasn't Tara Bonnie's besty? They'd always hung around each other, they even attended the same classes a lot, just like him and Kim did…

"U-Um… h-hello…" the blonde girl spoke up, in a weak tone that wasn't like her at all. She sounded so scared.

"Mmm? What's wrong Tara? Are you okay?" Bonnie asked, now hanging onto Ron's arm. The blonde girl just looked around nervously.

"Don't worry Tara! Ron's been my friend for a long time! He won't make fun of you!" the brunette girl declared in a confident tone, pulling him closer towards Tara.

'I have been?!' The blonde sidekick was more than shocked. Since when were he and Bonnie friends? He noticed that the brunette was shooting him an odd look. "Oh! Right, um… I promise I won't make fun of you, Tara" he corroborated, smiling.

The small blonde girl looked conflicted for a moment at his words, as if she wasn't sure if she should trust them. Bonnie pondered something for a second.

"Bonbon…" she mused. She stared at her friend for a few moments, suddenly a big smile spread across her face. "If you call me Bonbon, then I'm going to call you Ronnie!" she suddenly declared.

"Wha- Ronnie?" The blonde sidekick looked confused. 'Where have I heard that name before?' he wondered, looking at Tara. 'Wasn't that what Tara used to call me before?' The reasons why had never been explained to him, he hadn't had a way to ask either. The blonde cheerleader had just started calling him that out of the blue one day… It had been sort of like her nickname for him. At least it wasn't a hurtful one, like what Bonnie used to call him.

"So?" Bonnie suddenly asked, as if expecting something. "Do you like it?" she clarified.

"Yes?" he replied tentatively, the brunette frowned at his hesitation.

"You don't like it?" Bonnie asked.

'Why did she sound so sad about that?' Ron just shook his head for a no, as fast as he could. "No, I-I like it a lot! It's great!"

"Ronnie?" the blonde girl next to them interjected suddenly.

"It's cute, right?!" the brunette girl asked her new friend.

Tara nodded for conformation, seemingly more comfortable for some reason. "R-Ronnie…" the young girl repeated. A small, embarrassed smile graced her features, it was the same one she'd sported back at Camp Wannaweep. He wanted to ask the two something else, but the sound of a ringing bell emanating from the classroom caught the three children's attention.

"Come on Ronnie, we're late!" Bonnie started pulling him away, Tara following them.

He allowed himself to be dragged along by the brunette, too busy inside his own thoughts to care. 'I need to figure out what the hell is going on… Because, there is no way that this is real!'

X-=-=-=-=-X

This was real…

Or, at least, so he now believed… It was insane to even think it…

From all the things he'd seen and noticed so far, it was vividly clear to him that he was still dreaming… Or that he'd somehow gotten transported backwards in time, into his younger body. But that was too crazy to believe… even for him!

The young blonde boy had just had the pleasure of introducing himself to a bunch of young pre-kindergartners. It was so odd, standing there, looking at a group of different kids. They'd listened to, and looked at, him like he was an odd creature of some kind. Granted, every kid had gotten the same reaction from them. But still, it was an odd experience. Bonnie had been waving at him all the while, as if to try and encourage him… It'd only made him more nervous!

If this really was the case, that he'd gone backwards in time… then where was Kim? After all, she'd been the one he'd met in Pre-K… Not Bonnie, or Tara!

After the introductions were finished, one of the teachers gave them all some tasks to do. It was kids' stuff, intended to make them relax and get used to the place, even he could see that… He didn't want to do any of it, but drawing any attention to himself was just asking for trouble. So, he did the only thing he could think of…

"What are you drawing, Ronnie?" asked Bonnie. She sat next to him, with Tara next to her.

'Oh, right… This is still a thing, apparently…' He just glanced back at the brunette, who was still very close to him. "Nothing special… just an animal" he explained.

"Is it a dog?" She looked at the weird 'art' he'd made.

"No, it's a na- it's a mole rat" he corrected himself.

"Oh… he looks weird…" The younger Bonnie giggled at his work.

'Don't get angry… just ignore it…'the blonde boy chanted. Even if he had to deal with this for only the rest of the next hour, was it too much to ask for to sit next to someone else? Tara maybe? At least SHE didn't make fun of him… Well, at least he knew that it definitely WAS Bonnie next to him.

After their classwork was finished they were allowed to play in the classroom, or run around outside and tire themselves out. Ron chose the latter, as he needed to think… Unfortunately for the blonde boy, he wasn't as alone as he'd hoped to be.

His new tag-along was more than happy to keep him company, even if he didn't want any… She'd even insisted that they play, like before. She'd been more than forceful when she'd done so.

They were the only ones in the sandbox at the moment, that being Bonnie's idea of playing. She was just sitting in front of him, talking and making believe that they were somewhere else. Apparently, she was a big movie star. Ron happened to be one of her fans. 'I wasn't aware that being a fan was a job…' he groused to himself. He really didn't want to get on her nerves, if he could help it.

Surprisingly, Tara wasn't with them. She'd probably been left behind in class, after Bonnie had dragged him outside to play. The blonde sidekick could hear the very familiar sounds of laughter coming from inside the classroom… The sounds of someone being made fun of, he knew them all too well. Immediately he rose up from his seat, walking back towards the classroom.

"Wha- Where are you going, Ronnie?" the brunette asked, but received no answer from him.

The young boy wasn't sure what he expected to find, the situation just seemed to call out to him. He arrived back at the classroom to find a scene that almost, but not quite, matched one firmly etched into his memory.

"S-Stop it…" stuttered a frightened-looking Tara. She was being picked on by two boys in the class. They were pulling her hair, laughing at her distress… In the future these two probably would have resorted to begging her for a date, considering what sort of beauty she'd turn into. But for now? Picking on the girl they liked was the only thing they knew.

Still… it didn't change one simple fact.

Ron didn't care for bullying… It didn't matter if this was a dream, or not!

"Hey, leave her alone!" he called out to the two, in a much higher-pitched voice than he'd intended.

The two stopped and looked at him, clearly surprised. None of the other kids had even cared about what they were doing. "What do you want?" the bigger boy asked.

"I want you to leave her alone! She doesn't like it!" he called out again, moving closer to the boys.

"I don't care!" The one nearest to him tried to push him to the ground with one hand.

Ron maneuvered with far greater speed than a kid his age should have. He sidestepped, causing the boy who'd tried to push him to fall to the floor next to him.

The bully looked confused, then angry. He got up and attempted to do the same again, only to produce the same result.

Tara took the opportunity to pull herself away from the second boy next to her, running to hide behind the blonde sidekick.

The bully on the floor started crying loudly from his spot on the ground, this prompted the teacher to check on the issue.

"What happened?" She crouched down to calm the crying boy, his friend looked worried.

"He fell over" Ron explained. The teacher stared at him for a moment, before helping the boy up from the floor. She led him over to a nearby corner to calm him down, his friend walked away with them.

Ron stared at his teacher as she moved away with the two boys. He did feel bad about making him cry… but he didn't really have many choices at the time. He wasn't about to hit or yell at them, he really doubted that it would have made a difference if he'd tried talking to them. Looking over his shoulder he noticed the small form of Tara, she was clutching onto his shirt and looking up at him.

"T-Thank you Ronnie" she whispered. She wore a tiny smile, even if she was still somewhat shook-up.

'So, Ronnie it is… Great…' He didn't really mind his new pet name, but something felt off to him. "Are you okay Tara?" Asking the girl how she was seemed to sooth her, her form straightened a bit.

She nodded for confirmation, but still held onto the side of his shirt. It was cute, but with the threat gone, he didn't understand why Tara hadn't let go. 'She must still be frightened…' he thought, before smiling at her in an attempt to calm her.

"Don't worry Tara, I won't let them bully you" he assured. He even patted her head for good measure, hoping it was enough to do the trick.

"There you are… why did you go? I was about to put on my big show!" Bonnie appeared from behind him, looked very annoyed at being left alone.

"Sorry Bonnie-" he began, before witnessing her expression grow more annoyed. "Bonbon-" he corrected, a tiny smile bloomed on her face. "They were bulling Tara, so I helped her…"

"Did you cry until they left her alone?" Bonnie asked honestly.

"He didn't cry!" Tara spoke up from her new spot.

"He didn't?" Bonnie asked, clearly surprised. "Ronnie usually talks until they hit him. …and then I need to help him" the brunette elaborated, as if it was a common occurrence.

'I was never like that… right?' the blonde boy thought, trying to remember details from this early in his childhood. He failed… the only thing he remembered from that time was Kim.

Suddenly, the blonde boy noticed three boys that he didn't know walking past him. They weren't from his class… They looked too odd, though familiar at the same time.

One of them had blue skin, the second one looked like a boy in a skirt, the third one looked like a Monkey! Too bizarre to even think about!

The last thing he noticed was the girl the three of them were walking towards… a redhead with twin-tails.
