Surprised to see another Dexter x Lee Lee story in the mix? Well, this one I figured would be pretty fun to write for. Remember the episode "Dexter's Assistant" where Dexter decided to give Dee Dee a large brain in order for her to be as smart as him for a science fair project? Well... what if Lee Lee offered to be Dexter's assistant instead? Only, this version is going to be a LOT more different. How? You'll have to see for yourself! Anyway, enjoy!

"Drat... computer, lights on."

Yet another day in the life of Dexter in his laboratory as he was, as per usual, working on one of his own inventions to present to the annual science fair. Every year, he enters with a brand new invention, and every year, he won a trophy for the brilliant invention. Of course, when the competition is between his inventions and one of those baking soda volcanoes, Dexter's invention would always come out on top. However, for the recent invention that Dexter wants to enter, he encountered a slight dilemma.

Sure, the invention was nearly completed, everything should be fine... and yet, one of his more admittingly design flaws in hindsight was that he had put a button that would stabilize the machine all the way down at the bottom, which, as he had just found out, caused quite some complications. And as if it wasn't bad enough... three more complications... or rather, minor annoyances arrived.

"Hi, Dexter!"

Dexter jumped as he fell down on the floor, which he now noticed had been decorated with marbles. He looked over and sighed as he adjusted his glasses. "Dee Dee, Mee Mee, Lee Lee..."

Dexter's sister and her friends couldn't help but flash innocent smiles as Dee Dee asked, "Hey Dexter, I seem to have lost my marbles..."

"Well, that's the news of the century." Dexter rolled his eyes as he pointed down to the floor. "These wouldn't happen to be the marbles here, would it?"

"No, no, not those ones." Dee Dee started to say as she started to list down the individual marbles she had. However, her friends seem to be more distracted with the large invention in the room as Mee Mee gave a whistle.

"Well, somebody has been quite busy with their handiwork." Mee Mee noted.

Lee Lee giggled. "As per usual, Dexter, your mind is a very excellent enigma."

Hearing what Lee Lee said made Dexter relax a little bit. Though he knew her to be Dee Dee's friend, he at least acknowledged that the black haired Chinese girl seemed to respect his inventions and only asked questions as opposed to just fool around in the lab... though that was just on the good days.

"Well, I'm glad you think that." Dexter said as he gave a frown. "I just wished I can find a way to work the thing."

"Well, what is your invention supposed to do?" Lee Lee asked in curiosity.

"The Spectro Mechanotron is supposed to generate enough electricity to open a wormhole to another dimension, not to travel, but just to look into." Dexter simply explained.

Mee Mee and Lee Lee opened their mouths as they 'ooooohhhh' in interest.

Dexter smirked. "At least you two can somewhat understand this. Dee Dee, no offense, would never understand something as complex as this." Dexter rolled his eyes.
"But right now, I have a dilemma. The button I need to finish the sequence is right here at the bottom, but yet I need to be on top in order to work the machine."

Mee Mee and Lee Lee looked at each other as Mee Mee lowered her eyes. "Pitiful."

"Uh, Dexter, it seems to me you need some help in order for your machine to work." Lee Lee pointed out.

Dexter lowered his eyelids. "That is all but obvious! But who could I get to help?"

Dexter, Lee Lee and Mee Mee looked over towards Dee Dee as she was still listing the marbles she was missing. Dexter gave a small laugh as he noted Lee Lee and Mee Mee's looks. "You really think that-" He then gave a chuckle. "No, no, she wouldn't be able to understand it."

"Why not? Seems to me she's always pressing buttons in your lab." Mee Mee shrugs.

Dexter opened his mouth to argue, before closing it as he put a hand under his chin to think. "Hmm. Fair point, but the only time she does that is if something needs to go wrong, and right now, nothing is going wrong."

"Oh come on, Dee Dee, the girl who ALWAYS pushes buttons whenever she sees them?" Lee Lee asked. "Don't get me wrong, Dexter, you may be a genius, but sometimes you could be blind to it."

"No, no, it's true. Just watch." Dexter said as he turned to Dee Dee. "Dee Dee, will you come here please?"

She stopped listing the marbles as she stuck her tongue out with a grin on her face. "Yes, Dexter?"

"Could you do me a favor and... push this button for me?" Dexter said as he pointed over to the button.

Mee Mee and Lee Lee rolled their eyes as they stood back and watched as Dee Dee looked at the button, looking at it in awe, before using her finger to... miss the button entirely. Mee Mee and Lee Lee looked rather bewildered as Dee Dee continually missed the button, much to Dexter's awareness.

"Okay, that should be all, thank you." Dexter said as he pushed Dee Dee aside.

"Awww, but I wanna push the button." Dee Dee whined as Dexter turned to the two girls.

"This is what I mean. When Dee Dee rampages around or wants to mess something up, she's good at pressing buttons. Asking her though? Well, she suddenly becomes... what's the word?" Dexter paused.

"Inept?" Mee Mee guessed.

"I was thinking a bigger word, but your word gets to the point." Dexter said.

Mee Mee and Lee Lee looked at each other as the latter gave a smile. "You know, Dexter, if Dee Dee won't be a managable assistant, one of us could help you out?"

Dexter paused. "Oh really? Enlighten me."

Lee Lee could only give a nod as she went over to the Spectro Button, gave a nod, and simply pushed it. Sure, it did nothing, but it was at least there. Dexter paused as he raised an eyebrow. "Well, I suppose you are pretty good at pushing buttons when told to."

The Chinese girl gave a giggle as she said, "Thank you. When you enter the lab so many times, you tend to know your way around scientific stuff."

Mee Mee turned to her friend in surprise. "I didn't think you would be into all this nerdy stuff."

"Hey, just because I love dancing and ponies and all that, that doesn't mean I shouldn't open my mind to other possibilities." Lee Lee explained as Dexter looked rather surprise. "Plus, Dexter looks like he needs an assistant right now, especially if he can't be in two places at once."

Dexter looked over at the green tutu wearing girl with interest as he put it in thought. "You know, I was thinking about putting in the brain of someone that needs it in order to become the perfect assistant... but if you're willing to volunteer..."

"Of course I'd be willing to!" Lee Lee said with a grin.

Mee Mee could only give a knowing smirk towards her friend, causing Lee Lee to roll her eyes towards her. Dexter paused as he looked over to Lee Lee. "I don't know... Lee Lee, come with me. If you're serious about being my assistant, I want to run a few tests."

Lee Lee looked over to Dexter in confusion, before giving a nod as she turned to Mee Mee. "Uh, tell Dee Dee that I'm going to be looking around Dexter's Laboratory, in case she asks where I am."

"Uh, hello?" Dee Dee said as all three looked over towards her. Dee Dee frowned as she crossed her arms. "I'm right here, you know. I heard every word you said."

"Then I guess I don't need to repeat myself." Lee Lee nodded. "I'm hanging out with Dexter. Bye, girls!"

With that, Lee Lee started to follow Dexter as Mee Mee couldn't help but smirk. "Sheesh, that girl is always looking for excuses to hang out with Dexter."

Dee Dee lowered her eyelids as she gave a nod. "Oh, she's crushing on my brother. BAD."

With that said, Mee Mee and Dee Dee let loose a barrage of giggles as they bent down to look for Dee Dee's marbles as Mee Mee picked one of them up. "You know, Dee Dee, I think this IS one of your marbles?"

"Is it?" Dee Dee asked in surprise.

Inside a small testing room in one corner of the lab, Lee Lee was sitting on a desk as she looked over to see Dexter, dressed up in a teacher's cap as he held a small piece of paper. The Chinese girl raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Uh, Dexter? What exactly are you holding?"

"If you can be trusted to be an assistant, I need to see how good you are." Dexter said. "Frankly, I would love to have an equal help me, but I'll need all the help I can get. If you pass with at least half the questions provided on this written test, I might consider you. Fail, and I'll kindly ask you to leave the laboratory, no harm, no foul."

Lee Lee felt a bit nervous as Dexter walked over and handed her the test. "Here's the test. You may begin."

With that, Lee Lee flipped over the paper and looked over the questions. Some of them felt relatively simple, like two plus two and what the compounds H and O meant, but then there were a couple more complicated questions, like the quadratic formula of x, and what NaCl meant, or the question about two trains that passed at the same time, with one going 20 miles an hour and the other at 45 miles an hour, at 3 PM. Lee Lee had to admit, this was going to be a tough test. She looked over at Dexter, who had set up an egg timer and was laying carefully on his chair.

Lee Lee took a deep breath as she looked over the test, before giving a nod, feeling a bit more determined. There was no doubt in her mind that she wanted to hang out with Dexter, if only because he was always so focused on solitude in his lab, but he did seem to like making things complicated. And she knew that if she was going to be his assistant, she had to open her mind to the academics, the possibilities... she took a deep breath. Once her mind was clear, she looked down at the test and started to get to work.

And that's the first chapter done! How did you guys like it? Next time, Dexter is going to be in for a surprise when he sees how Lee Lee manages to pass his multitude of tests... will this prove to him that she could be a VERY worthy assistant? That has yet to be seen! Anyway, read, review, criticize and suggest, folks!
