Chapter 7 - Love or Lust
Subaru was frantically running back to where he left Emilia. He thought he had more time until the village would be attacked. But with what Elsa said, there's no doubt it's happening tonight. And Elsa is involve this time as well, what the fuck is going! Why does shit keep changing in this loops?! He needs to get Emilia, go back to the mansion and hopefully get everyone to help out. Rem and Ram are pretty strong, Beatrice and Puck are a must. He knows that Roswaal holds the title of the strongest mage in the kingdom, but something tells him that he wouldn't be able to rely on him.
After a minute of running, he's finally returned to the lake where Emilia was waiting at. She had picked up a variety of flowers while waiting for him to return. She turned towards Subaru as she heard him running over. He was panting, trying to catch his breath. She could tell something was wrong since he rushed over here and had a serious look on his face.
"Subaru? What's wrong, why were you running back? Did something happen?" The silver haired half elf looked at him with concern.
After Subaru catches his breath, he says "Emilia-tan, we have to go back to the mansion. Something bad happened and we need everyone's help"
"But what about our dayte?" Emilia did not want the special day she was having to end so abruptly.
He felt bad about having to end their first date like this, but there wasn't much of a choice. "I'm sorry but it's an emergency, I'll explain everything when we're with everyone. I promise we'll go have another date, we'll have many dates that you could ever want! I've already thought of a few things we could do on our next one" Subaru tried to persuade Emilia while also trying to cheer her up that they had many future dates to look forward to.
Emilia just looked at the black haired boy, she still didn't like that they had to stop. But she trusted Subaru, so if he said it was an emergency. Then it was an emergency. She'll also be holding onto Subaru's word of her having as many dates as she could want.
"You promise?" She earnestly asked.
"Of course, in case you forgot. I'm the one that wanted to go on dates with you in the first place" He responded, also remembering the times he broke his promise to her in his previous loops.
'This time, I'm going to make sure to not break any' He swore to himself.
Emilia smiled, hearing him promise that made her feel much better.
"But we really need to get going! The faster the better" With that the two rushed back to the mansion.
At the Mansion
After reaching the Mansion, the two were greeted by the pink haired twin sister. A very annoying look plastered her face as she placed her gaze onto Subaru.
"Hah, the irresponsible dog comes back. Not two days working here and already skipping your tasks, if you aren't here that makes it so I can't force my work onto you" She said as she glared at Subaru.
"I can explain… well not really. You're right that I skipped for my own personal enjoyment- wait what that last part you just said!?" Finally catching what she just said, but quickly dismissing that thought from his mind.
"Actually that's not important right now, I need you to gather everyone. Can you go fetch Roswaal and Rem" Ram could tell with his body language alone that he was serious. Whatever he was talking about has got him on edge. While she has a personal interest in the boy as she saw him as something she could use as for her own… well in his words, 'personal enjoyment'. However just because she likes what's in between his legs doesn't mean she's just going to listen to what he says without reason.
"Please Ram, we need everyone here" Emilia asked.
However if Emilia was ordering her, that was another thing altogether.
"Why of course Emilia-sama, however it is regretful to say that Roswaal-sama isn't here" Ram explained to the two of them. "I'll go and fetch Rem, however Puck is currently with Lady Beatrice. It will take me a while to locate them as they are in the Forbidden Library"
"Don't worry about those two, you could leave them to me if they're in that room" Ram only nodded, since it was just one less thing she had to do. With that she left to go get her sister.
"Do you know where to find them Subaru, it's suuuuper hard to find the Forbidden Library because of Beatrice's ability" Emilia knew firsthand just how difficult finding the right door to get there could be.
"You see these sort of things where you have to find the hidden room is easy for someone like me" Subaru said with confidence, he walked towards the first door he saw and opened it.
The sight he was greeted with was Beatrice who was sitting in the chair that's in the center of the room. Currently her arms were cuddling Puck into her chest as she rubbed her face on the top of his head, enjoying the feeling of his soft fur rubbing against her cheek. However she froze as she heard the door open, slowly moving her head up. Staring at the black haired boy looking at her.
As she was holding Puck onto her chest, him being shoved into her bountiful breast. Subaru was currently a tad jealous of the treatment Puck was receiving.
"Wooow! Subaru, you actually found them on your first try. It usually takes a while to find Beatrice" Beatrice had an angry tick mark on her shiny forehead, not only had they interrupted her cuddle time with Puck. Even though it wasn't an insult, what Emilia had just said further soured her mood.
"Ah, sorry Beako. Didn't mean to interrupt, but can we ask for you and Puck to come out real quick. I need to tell you guys all something important, Ram is on her way to fetch Rem-"
"We're already here" Ram stated, right next to Subaru. Rem standing right behind her.
Subaru slightly jumped, startled with Ram seemingly to pop out of nowhere.
"You just went looking for Rem not even a minute ago!"
"She was nearby, now hurry and explain why you needed the presence of everyone… heh" Ram couldn't help but scoff.
"Don't laugh! You just startled me is all…" Subaru did not want to make Emilia think he would be so easily scared.
"Well now that everyone is here, there's something I found out. Arlam Village is going to be attacked today" Subaru said with a serious expression.
"And how is it exactly that you know of this" Rem stepped forward Subaru with an accusing glare. He stepped back, raising his arms up.
"It's not what you think! Emilia and were having a date-"
"What?!" Puck finally speaking up, removing himself from Beatrice's arms and floating towards Subaru.
"I'm the one who asked him to, so don't get mad at him" Emilia standing in Puck's way.
"I know everyone has something they want to say but listen! I was on the way to the village to get something for me and Emilia-tan something to eat. But before I got there I encountered Elsa, she said that-" Subaru was interrupted by an anxious Emilia who grabbed his shoulders and made him face her, checking up and down his body.
"Are you okay?! She didn't do anything to you did she?! Did she touch you anywhere you didn't want her to!" Emilia asked in concern, remembering how Elsa was rubbing herself all over Subaru back at the slums.
He grabbed onto her arms and pulled them off of him, keeping his hands on top of hers. "I'm fine, she didn't hurt me. I'm okay, I'm not sure why but she seems to have a special interest in me and let me go. But she did imply she would come after me after she finishes her job tonight, she went towards the village after that. So I think the village is in danger!" Subaru explained, hoping to convince them of the situation they were in.
"An interest in you? Just let you go? And we're just supposed to believe such a convenient story, for all we know you're in it with her!" Rem said with yet again an accusing tone in her voice.
"He's telling the truth, I can tell that he's not lying" Puck said as he had his paw under his chin as he was thinking. The Bowel Hunter came back, is it because of unfinished business with the insignia? And he knew Subaru was telling the truth as well when it came to her having a certain interest with him, seeing it first hand back at the loot house.
With the Great Spirit Puck confirming what Subaru's saying, Rem had no choice but to believe Subaru… for now.
"Even so, the Bowel Hunter saying she has to finish a job and just head towards the village is a vague answer to say the least. However with Roswaal's being absent, the timing of her choosing to do so now may not be a coincidence" Ram said out loud, adding more credibility to Subaru's claim.
"Let's head to the village at once, we mustn't let the village suffer any casualties during Roswaal-sama's absence. Let's hope we have time to prepare for the Bowel Hunter acts" Ram declared to everyone.
"This has nothing to do with Betty, I suppose. I'll be in the Library waiting, in fact" Beatrice said as she stayed in her seat, opening a book to read.
Subaru would have liked her help, but with his current relationship with her right now. He doubts he could convince her. No one argues with her, they all head to leave for the mansion. However they stopped with both Subaru's and Emilia's stomachs growling.
They head to the kitchen to grab something for them to eat on the way to the village, all the while Ram berating Subaru for skipping work and breakfast.
Near the Village
The group were close to the village now, Emilia was wearing a white cloak with a hood that looked like bunny ears. He recognized it as the cloak that would make people not be able to recognize the wearer.
"Looks like we're too late" Ram said bitterly.
"What do you mean, we're not there yet?" Subaru knew about her clairvoyance, and knew that she could probably see what's happening even if they weren't there. However she never told them this loop so he still had a part to play. Even though it's been futile this whole time.
"I have the ability to view the same thing as other animals in the vicinity as long as they are the same wavelength as me. But we need to hurry!" Ram yelled as the group quickened their pace.
Once they arrived at the village, they could see people trying to defend themselves against a horde of Mabeast but were quickly losing.
Everyone but Subaru were able to make quick work on the Mabeast, however there were many people injured. After a quick look around, they noticed most of the people here were only women.
"What happened, where's everyone else?" Subaru crouched down to one of the wounded. Emilia and Rem quickly went to the others that were injured and started to use their healing magic.
"Th-The children *cough cough* The children have gone missing… The men went into the forest to go looking for them… But not too long after the Mabeast came into the village, and started attacking" The woman had orange hair and had a slender figure with nice curves, unfortunately right now wasn't the time to admire her beauty. She was trying to explain everything despite the pain she was in. Luckily there didn't seem to be anyone that was killed, but there were lots of people with gashes and bites all over their bodies that were deep. Including this woman, Emilia had finished the person she was healing and headed over to the one Subaru was talking to.
"Thank you… if you people haven't shown up when you did. I fear what would have happened to the rest of us" Subaru didn't even want to think about what would've happened if they were just a minute too late.
However right now Subaru was absolutely pissed, something strange was going on. Everything just keeps happening way too differently, this wasn't how the village incident happened before! Why was everything being changed so drastically, none of these things were subtle changes. What's the point of this cursed ability he has if he couldn't rely on it. Unfortunately now wasn't the right time to think about it, there were more urgents matters at hand.
"Let's go look for the people that went searching for the kids, either Emilia or Rem needs to stay behind to heal the villagers. If we're lucky we'll find them before they encounter Elsa" Subaru said, right now this was probably the best way to go about it.
"And I think the one to stay is you Emilia-tan" Subaru looked over and told the silver haired half elf.
"But I want to go, those children are in danger, I can't just-"
"Lia, Subaru is right. You should stay and heal, with me and you we'll be able to heal everyone faster than Rem could" Puck says trying to convince Emilia. The two continued to argue with each other, while that was happening, Subaru asked one of the villagers which direction did the search party go towards, and she pointed in the direction they went.
"Ram, Rem our first priority is to group up with the villagers that went looking for the children. After that we'll help them find the missing children and escort them back to the village. If we're lucky we can do this without encountering Elsa" Subaru explained, last time this happened Elsa wasn't a part of this incident. The children did go missing but the only difference was that the Mabeast entered the village and some of the villagers went into the forest searching for the children. All of that could have happened without Elsa's involvement. He's hoping the children were at the same spot as last time and not somewhere where Elsa was also at.
"Okay, I'll stay" Emilia said softly to Puck, understanding where he was coming from. She just didn't want to leave Subaru alone knowing that Elsa might be around! But she couldn't be selfish, these villagers needed them right now.
"Don't worry Emilia-tan, we'll be back before you can even say dunderhead" He gave her a thumbs up as they group entered the forest.
"Thunderhead…" She said to no one in particular as she started to heal the rest of the villagers.
After a few minutes of walking through the forest.
"Don't be thinking of doing anything suspicious, I'll be sure to be keeping my eye on you" Rem stated coldly to the black haired boy.
"How can you say something like that, especially when you took my first time" He jokingly replied as he thought to himself that he still needs to earn her trust again.
However Ram stopped in place, causing both Rem and Subaru to stop.
"There's something watching us, it's from behind. Rem!" she called out, a Mabeast lunging towards them. Rem quickly pulls out her morning star and bashing the Mabeast's head in.
'You know, I never figured out where she keeps that'
"Let's continue" Ram and Rem walked ahead as Subaru looked at the now dead Mabeast, gulping that he doesn't meet the same fate as it.
"So Ram, you haven't located any of the villagers yet?" Asking, since they have been walking for a while now.
"No" Ram said as they continued their search.
No one said it, but they were all growing worried. There was quite the amount that went searching for the children, but they still haven't met a single one. They feared that the worst outcome may have come to pass. Especially with Ram's clairvoyance they haven't found anyone yet. They couldn't help but have a bad feeling, but they just had to bear with it as they continued their search.
As they kept getting deeper into the woods, the number of Mabeasts they encountered has only increased. Subaru was beginning to dread what may or may not happen, thinking of maybe resetting since there was still no sign of any of the villagers or the children. However, just as he was contemplating on what to do, Ram found them.
"The villagers, they're with the children! But they're being attacked by the Mabeast!" Ram yelled as she started to run to the direction of the villagers. Rem and Subaru quickly followed, after a minute they reached a clearing in the forest and saw the villagers that were indeed with the children. However as they were grouped up, the Mabeasts had surrounded them, the villagers keeping the children in the center trying their best to defend them. Ram and Rem went and helped kill the Mabeast, the villagers relaxed after seeing the twin maids kill the last of them.
"Is everyone alright?" Subaru asked them, seeing most of them with some minor wounds but nothing that looked fatal. Coming closer to the group so that he could ask them some questions.
"Yeah, thank you. For saving us"
Subaru looked around, before asking "Is this all of you, and are those all the children that were missing?"
"Regarding those who came looking for them, yes this is all of us" The man replied, but a small girl with orange hair came forward. "There's still a girl in the forest, she got separated from us when we were in the forest" She said worryingly.
Great, so this wasn't over just yet.
Subaru reaches and pats the girl's head. "Don't worry, we'll find her" He removes his from her head before turning to the man once again.
"Were these the only Mabeast you guys encountered?" Subaru needed to make sure of something.
"Yes, we didn't see any until we found the kids" The man responded. Subaru let out a sigh of relief. So any of the Mabeast that could have placed a curse on them were just killed right now. But of course there's still a kid missing, just like last time. If everything was going to be different anyways why couldn't there be a nice or convenient one like all the kids being here!
He looked back into the forest, seeing movement in it. No doubt Mabeast is still lurking about, waiting for their chance to strike. Thinking, Subaru was trying to find out what was the next course of action they should take. Ram doesn't have as much mana as Rem, so with that being the case.
"Ram, you think you have enough mana to escort the villagers back? I don't think it'd be wise to send them back without one of you two to protect them" Ram understood what he was proposing.
"I have enough to take them back, with my Clairvoyance I should be able to choose a path with the least amount of Mabeast's" Ram looked at Rem.
"Rem, you and Barusu go and look for the last child. But if you think it's too much for you to handle. Just remember, it's okay to leave Barusu behind"
"Wait what?!"
Ram knew Rem was strong, but she's unsure how she compared to the notorious Bowel Hunter. Worse comes to worse, she didn't want her dear sister to be a victim to Elsa.
Rem smiling, "Of course Nee-sama" She holstered up her Morning Star, turning to Subaru.
"Wait, before you go" The villager that Subaru was talking to, he ended up handing a sword to him. "You should atleast have something to defend yourself with, consider it thanks. For saving us" Subaru gladly accepted the weapon, he was hoping he didn't have to break it like last time.
"Let's go shall we" Rem said as she headed into the forest.
'She's not actually going to leave me behind, right?' Subaru hasn't gained her trust yet so he was a bit concerned to say the least.
The sun was directly above them, meaning it was around noon. Rem and Subaru have killed numerous amounts of Mabeasts while searching. Subaru has managed to actually kill some on his own, however when they were multiple he would be overwhelmed and would need Rem to save him.
Kind of like right now, where they were surrounded on all sides by Mabeasts. Rem was busy dealing with most of the Mabeasts while Subaru was trying his best not to be a burden. However he slipped up, falling down while the Mabeast he was fighting plunged towards him. Eagerly wanting to see what a main character tasted like. Thankfully, Rem had come in to kill the Mabeast before it could maul into Subaru.
Unfortunately that had left her vulnerable to the Mabeasts she stopped fighting in order to save Subaru. She tried to turn back and defend herself but she was too late, one of the Mabeast had its fangs bared into her arm. She lowered her left arm that had the Mabeasts, and raised her right hand and slammed it down into its dome, smashing its head to pieces.
She continued to kill the rest until there were no more in the area. Turning to Subaru with a furious look in her eye. "Why did you even come if you were just going to be in the way! You may not be siding with the enemy but you might as well be. You're practically helping them by just being a liability for being here" Subaru was disheartened, looking at her arm that was chomped on. Blood trailing down to her hand, dripping off her fingertips. Because of him.
To think that there was a time where Rem revered to him as her Hero. He wanted to-
Subaru had noticed something, and before he could even think. His body moved on his own, pushing Rem down onto the floor.
"What do you think you're-" Rem was lashing out, until she saw his shoulder bleeding, It had looked like it had been slash, and not by the claws of a Mabeast.
"Sorry, there's a lot I'd like to apologize about. But it seems we have company" Subaru said as tried to ignore the pain in his shoulder, wanting to put up a strong front with Rem watching.
He got off of her and looked to see who it was that tried to slash down Rem, and sure enough it was none other than Elsa. Rem got up, looking at the one who was responsible for this whole ordeal. Seeing the infamous Bowel Hunter for the first time.
"Su-ba-ru~ I'm happy you came all this way just to see me again! You see I just completed my task so we can finish where we left off~" She looked at him with a predatory gaze as she brought the knife that sliced his shoulder to her lips, licking some of the blood off the blade. She enjoyed the taste, but she knows there's another body fluid of his that she'll enjoy much more than this. And she was dying to get it soon.
"Don't worry as soon as I get rid of her, we'll get to have our much needed time-" Rem not wanting to listen to her any longer threw her morning star at her. Elsa jumped out the way, landing on a tree branch as she narrowed her eyes at the blue haired oni.
"My my, didn't your parents ever teach you that it's rude to interrupt someone when they're talking" Elsa said as she twirled her blade in one of her hands, before jumping towards Rem.
"Careful, she has two blades!" Subaru warned so she wouldn't get caught by surprise. Seeing how Elsa wouldn't be able to use that as a surprise attack she decided she might as well just take it out and use both.
Rem jumped away from Subaru and twirled the chain on the morning star, and threw it at Elsa. The Bowel Hunter, not having time to dodge since she was just running right towards her, brought her left blade up trying to deflect it, the force much stronger than she anticipated as the hand that deflected it was pushed back and because of the impact, made her drop the blade in her left hand in the process. However what she didn't expect was for Rem to rush towards her as soon as she threw the morning star.
With Elsa's stance broken and not having recovered from the impact, Rem jumped up and with her right arm that was uninjured grabbed onto Elsa's hair and dragged it down to the knee she was swinging up to smash into Elsa's face. However in one quick motion Elsa had dropped the blade on her right arm and grabbed onto Rem's knee before it reached her face. Her hand that had deflected the morning star was pushed back was in a good position for Elsa to swing her fist into Rem's abdomen. Rem winced from the force of the blow, her grasp on Elsa's hair weakening. The bowel hunter let go of Rem's knee and did a roundhouse kick, sending Rem flying to the direction of the Subaru.
In Subaru's eye, that whole exchange happened in mere seconds. It was when Rem went flying past him and hitting right into a tree did he start to understand how bad the situation was. Elsa was much stronger than he thought.
Rem was also just made aware that this wasn't good. She was at a disadvantage, right now she wasn't sure if she could go into her Oni form without killing Subaru. Then there's the fact her left arm was still injured from earlier. Even if she was in perfect health, and didn't have to worry about Subaru. She wasn't even confident that she could defeat Elsa in her Oni form. She was able to recognize that with just that one attack.
After all that kick alone she just knocked the air out of her and had trouble getting up. Elsa rushed in after grabbing the blades she dropped, going to finish the job. Rem could see the sadistic smile on her face as she was most likely about to get killed. Her lost thoughts went to her last family member, her sister Ram. Regretting that she could never atone for her sins. Just as Elsa was about to take Rem's life, her eyes went wide as she saw Subaru tackle Elsa to the ground.
"Don't you dare-MFFNMNMFF" Subaru was surprised that he was actually able to tackle Elsa, thinking for sure she would be able to dodge him. Now he knows that she let him, as she turned her body to him right before he got her. She held her hands around his head and smothered him into her soft and generous chest.
"If you wanted me so badly, you only had to say so~" She whispered to him. What the hell is with the woman! Fortunately, or unfortunately for those who like this type of treatment. That gave enough time for Rem to regain her bearings and rushed over trying to deal a blow to Elsa.
The Bowel Hunter, seeing this reluctantly, kicks Subaru off of her and jumps away.
"Tsk, you know girly. If you just stayed where you were. You could've been able to enjoy the show and maybe live for a few minutes. Or however long me and him wanted to keep going for~" Subaru getting goosebumps when she said that, who in their right mind wants to have sex while in the middle of killing someone?!
Rem however knew that this was a losing battle, she knew that she couldn't win against her.
"If you have a trump card that you've been saving up on, now would be a great time to use it" Subaru hinted for her to use her Oni form, since it may be their only chance.
"I do have one but it's not something I can control. I would most likely attack you as well, and I don't really care for that con. I don't think I would be able to win against her despite that" She said disappointingly. Should she run away, it's not like she would kill Subaru. But she doesn't think Elsa would let her just go though. Was this where she meets her end, never being able to atone for the sin against her sister?
Subaru was in deep thought, but he had thought quickly. If Rem says she can't beat Elsa even after bringing out her horn. As much as he didn't want to, there was only one thing he could think of which would let the two of them keep their lives.
"You know, I didn't really show it but I really wanted us to get along" Subaru said softly, as he looked directly at Rem. "You probably have no idea how much I care for you, and if you did it wouldn't even make sense for you and you'd think I'm crazy. Despite how much you seem to hate me, I still can't help but want to see you smile" Subaru tried to force a smile on his face to hide the fear on his body, though Rem was able to see past his false bravado easily.
"Why" Not understanding the sudden words that Subaru was telling her. Cares for her, wants to see her smile? They don't even know each other.
He turns his back on Rem, now facing Elsa who was standing in front of him with an amused smile on her face.
"Darling, please move aside for just a moment. I need to-"
"I'll go with you, you can do whatever you want to me! I won't resist… Just please" Subaru went down onto his knees, begging.
"Just please, let her go"
This was the best he could think of. Rem said so herself that even if she was in her Oni form she wouldn't win. So Ram wouldn't be able to face her either. Emilia and Puck couldn't win at the loot house. Even then Rem of Emilia needed to be at the village to heal the injured. There's also the last kid that's still missing. That and everythings being different, could he even rely on Return by Death.
Rem stared at the sight before her, why would he even do this for her. 'Why' She couldn't help but think over and over again.
As of right now, no one has been killed. If he were to surrender himself to Elsa, if she would spare Rem. That would be for the best, he would just have to deal with her desires for who knows how long. But once Rem is recovered and regroups with Emilia and Ram then he could be saved. With Rem being able to smell him, and with Ram's clairvoyance. They should have no problem finding him. This was the best plan he could think of. He just needed Elsa to say-
"Okay, she wasn't someone I was contracted to kill so I could let all this slide. But if she was, I wouldn't spare her, even for you" She looked at Subaru with a menacing glare before switching to a seductive smile.
"Now let's hurry up and go. I can't wait to unwrap my reward~ Unless you've changed your mind" She said as she skipped away.
Subaru would just have to follow her whims for the time being.
"Why!" Rem shouted, whether it was because she couldn't believe what just happened or because she couldn't understand it. She didn't know, probably both.
Subaru gets up and turns to her with a sad smile on his face.
"I can't really explain it to you, but at the very least. I would never let the girl who I shared my first time with just die" he pats her head despite the scowl on her face.
"Tell Emilia-tan, I'm sorry" And with that Subaru walks away to Elsa, who seems to be humming a song to herself, no doubt for being in a good mood.
Rem stays quiet, after all why should she care. He had the stench of the same batstards who murdered her entire village, the same ones that cut off her sister's horn. Sure she had slept with him that one time, something had her and her sister yearning for him. But she only played along because it's something her sister wanted. If it was for Ram she would do anything.
So why is that she feels so frustrated with herself? Is it because she had to be saved by him, because of his sudden confession that he cares for her, for reasons that are unknown to her. Because if Ram was in her shoes, and had her horn. That Ram would've been able to solve everything without a problem? She didn't know.
What she did know was that she wanted to tell Subaru to wait, to explain himself. To tell her why he said the things he said. But she couldn't, because she knows what would happen to her if she didn't let him be taken by Elsa.
Death.
Subaru had been following Elsa for some time now, she didn't really say anything on the way to wherever they were going. Which he found surprising. She was walking in front of him, and well to say it the view from walking behind her wasn't so bad would be an understatement. However he noticed something up ahead. It looked like a small house, was this their hideout?
Also they walked past a couple of Mabeast, but aside from growling at Subaru. They didn't attack them, Elsa seems to know something about it. But when he asked, she said he'll find out soon.
