Santa Carla - 1987

Chapter 1 - Intro

"Are we there yet, mom?" Samara asked.

"Almost. Another 10 minutes and we'll be there. Grandpa is waiting for us." Lucy, the mother said.

"Alright." Sam said as Nanook whined pitifully.

"Almost there Nanook." Lucy said and patted the husky lovingly.

Samara felt bad for her poor dog. This trip from Phoenix to California was harder on him than the humans of the family. And old log home showed in the distance. Lucy pointed excitedly. That was their new home. Dad cheated on mom so now they were all going to California. Dad did not want either of his children. He did not even try to get custody of either of them. It had broken Samara's heart that he did not at least try.

"We are here!" Lucy finally announced stopping the car.

The roar of Michelle's, Mickey, motorcycle ceased as she too came to a stop. Lucy went to the house to let Grandpa know they were there and Michelle and Samara began gathering their things. With arms laden they reached the porch seeing their mother helping grandpa to stand. Either he fell or he was trying to play a prank. Sam's money was on him playing a prank.

"Maybe next time grandpa." Mickey joked.

"Maybe, pumpkin." Grandpa replied.

"Lucy, dear you are the only woman I know that didn't improve her situation getting divorced." Grandpa said grabbing a suitcase.

"It doesn't matter dad. I have my girls. That's what matters." she retorted.

It took a few hours to get everything brought in and put away. Grandpa did not have a TV but that was ok. As long as they had music the girls were ok. Grandpa mentioned a boardwalk that they could probably find jobs and maybe a few friends. Mom said they could go the next night. Get some rest that night and get some food in their bellies. Lucy made spaghetti and meatballs and a side salad. It was a nice evening to relax. They stayed up a couple more hours and got their rooms settled to their liking. That night they fell peacefully asleep for the first time in a while.
