"Legends. Stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past."

"Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness — creatures of destruction — the creatures of Grimm - set their sights on man and all of his creations. These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void."

"However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness, and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. This power was appropriately named "Dust."

"But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone... darkness will return."

Roman Torchwick and four of his henchmen head down an alley from the shadows. They stop behind Roman, who reignites his cigar without touching it, and grinned before walking down the road, frightening nearby citizens as they make their way towards the shop From Dust Till Dawn. Unknown to them they are being watched by a hidden group of eleven individuals.

"So you may prepare your guardians, build your monuments to a so-called "free world", but take heed... there will be no victory in strength."

Roman and his henchmen enter the shop, the camera lowering to a young girl wearing a hooded red cloak in the corner of the shop, reading a weapons magazine.

"But perhaps victory is in the simpler things that you've long forgotten. Things that require a smaller, more honest soul."

The henchmen look around and at the Dust crystals in the display when Roman approaches the elderly shopkeeper.

"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a Dust shop open this late?" Roman said while flicking his cigar.

One of his henchmen points a gun at the shopkeeper causing the old man to back away in fear.

"P-please! Just take my Lien and leave!" The Shopkeeper pleaded, raising his hands in the air.

"Shhh, shhh, shhh, shhh, calm down, we're not here for your money." Roman says gesturing at the Shopkeeper before turning to his henchman "Grab the Dust."

One of Roman's goons opened a case and removed one of several cylinders, which he and his compatriots used to take Dust from the tube containers on the walls. Another henchman approaches the shopkeeper with an open case.

"Crystals. Burn. Uncut."

The shopkeeper proceeds to fill the case. As another henchman goes for another tube, he hears the muted "This Will Be the Day" song from the girl's direction, and unsheathes his sword. Finding the girl minding her own business, he aimed his sword at her back.

"Alright kid, put your hands where I can see 'em." He ordered but he got no response. "Hey, I said hands in the air! You got a death wish or something!?"

He goes over to her and turns her around, the hood dropping to reveal a surprised Ruby Rose who is wearing headphones. He motions for her to lower them, which she did.

"Yes?"

"I said, put your hands in the air, now!"

"Are you... robbing me?" Ruby asked innocently.

"Yes!"

"Ooohhh..." Ruby says in mock surprise before smirking, the thug now realizing just how screwed he really was.

Roman was waiting for his men to finish the heist when sounds of a struggle were heard. He then noticed the thug who threatened Ruby was sent flying out the window, bloodied and beaten. Despite this sudden turn of events, Roman calmly motioned for another of his goons to handle Ruby.

As the thug charged at Ruby, she tackled him out the window of the shop, which was noticed by the mysterious group who were trailing Roman and his crew.

"Woah! That girl's got the moves." One of the individuals said.

"Yeah, she's like a pint-sized powerhouse!"

"She's not a normal little girl, that's for sure."

"Okay, so who's volunteering to kick Roman's ass?"

"As much as I want to cave the fucker's head in, I'll pass."

"I went first last time so I'll let someone else get the spotlight."

"I'll do it."

"Try not to go overboard."

"Yeah, I'll try to remember that."

Meanwhile Roman and the other henchmen were looking outside as Ruby gets up and unfolded her signature weapon, Crescent Rose, into its scythe form. Roman scowled, but Ruby simply grinned back at them before twirling the weapon around, striking it into the ground, and turning off her headphones.

"Okayyy...Get her!" Roman ordered his henchmen.

The henchmen head out of the shop and run at Ruby, who spun around on top of her scythe and kicked the first approaching criminal in the face. She then got Crescent Rose out of the ground and fired it off to hit another one with the blunt end, sending him flying. She fired again and brought the side down on one attacker and dodged the next's gunfire with her rifle's speed, getting close enough to knock him into the air and follow him upwards so she could knock him away to Roman's feet.

"You were worth every cent. Truly, you were." Roman said to Ruby, dropping his cigar and crushing it with his cane as approaching police sirens are heard.

"Well, Red, I think we can all say it's been an eventful evening, and as much as I'd love to stick around…" he raised his cane, Melodic Cudgel, and opened the bottom to reveal a rifle with a cross grid "I'm afraid this is where we part ways."

Roman unleashes a concussive Dust blast at Ruby. Before the girl could dodge, one of the unknown individuals dropped down in front of the blast. Revealing a sword, he used it to deflect the blast into the sky.

"Who are you?" Roman asks the newcomer.

The stranger steps into the light revealing himself; he was a tall athletic man of fair complexion with messy short black hair, brown eyes, and a handsome face. He wore a black suit, with green buttons on the suit with gloves.

"Who am I?" He says with a smirk as he jabbed a thumb at himself. "I am Travis Castor."

"Oh great! More meddling kids." Roman groaned in annoyance. "Anyways I am a very busy man so if you would excuse me…."

The thief then swiftly aimed Melodic Cudgel at Travis and fired several shots at him. The boy quickly deflected every shot fired at him with ease.

"That's all you got…" He said before noticing that Roman was nowhere to be seen.

"He's up there!" Ruby said, pointing at the rooftops.

Travis looks and sees Roman scurrying across the rooftops.

"Thanks, Red." Travis said, giving Ruby a wink before leaping towards the rooftop.

"Wow," Ruby said before noticing the befuddled Shopkeeper. "You okay if I go after him?"

The Shopkeeper numbly nods and Ruby dashed towards a nearby ladder to follow Travis, who had managed to gain up with Roman as he headed to the rooftop's edge.

"You've got nowhere to run, pal." Travis told Roman pointing his sword at him "I suggest you surrender."

Roman stops at the edge of the roof and turns to face Travis.

"Persistent…" He said annoyed.

"Don't forget about me!" Ruby shouted excitedly as she landed next to Travis.

Roman scowled at the pair but then smirks as a Bullhead appears rising in the air. A hatch on the Bullhead opens as the thief boarded it.

"End of the line, you two!" He said.

Roman tossed a Fire Dust crystal at the pair and shot at it. This created a large explosion that engulfed Travis and Ruby.

"Whoa-ho-ho-ho!" Roman laughed but stopped when he saw something on the roof. "Huh?"

There was Travis and Ruby, who were unharmed and surrounded by a golden barrier.

"What?" Roman said.

"Nice try buddy but that's not enough," Travis said with a wild grin. "Now it's my turn."

Travis fired multiple golden energy blasts at the Bullhead, this causes Roman to lose his balance and get thrown around the bullhead. The pilot, an unseen female wearing a red dress, was struggling with the controls.

"We've got a Hunter!" Roman yells to the pilot. The woman gets up while Roman takes the controls. The woman then appears in the hatch and her dress lights up with flames which she then projected towards Travis. Travis dodged the fireballs before retaliating with a beam of white light. The woman intercepted the laser with a fireball and fired fireballs at Travis who used telekinesis to block them.

"You're a tough customer huh?" Travis says.

Travis then grips his sword and with a mighty swing sends a huge air slash at the Bullhead. The woman is surprised but Roman barely manages to move the Bullhead out of the path of the attack. Travis then encases the aircraft in an energy barrier.

"Got you!" He said.

The woman is then surrounded by rings of fire which expand outwards towards the barrier creating an explosion powerful enough to shatter it.

"Damn! I almost had them." Travis cursed.

"Don't worry I got this!" Ruby says firing several shots from Crescent Rose in rifle form but the woman blocked each shot and created two rings of fire around her opponents. Travis realizing the danger, grabbed Ruby and dashed away before explosions happened where they once stood destroying the rooftop.

Travis looks up when the smoke clears to see the Bullhead fly into the night with the woman watching him.

"That could have gone better." Travis quipped.

"That was amazing!" Ruby shouted in glee "You were like boom and pow!"

"You're an excitable girl aren't you," Travis said.

"I'm Ruby Rose." Ruby introduced herself "Nice to meet you."

"Pleasure to meet you, Ruby. I'm Travis Castor."

"Ahem!"

Both Travis and Ruby turned around to see a middle-aged woman with light blonde hair tied in a bun with a curl hanging down the right side of her face. She wore oval glasses, a white long-sleeved pleated top, a black pencil skirt, and black heeled boots. She had a wand in hand. She is Glynda Goodwitch.

"We're in trouble aren't we?" Travis said dryly.

An hour later:

Travis and Ruby were now in a dimly lit interrogation room at the police station with the woman, Glynda Goodwitch. Ruby was looking ashamed and nervous while Travis was bored.

"I hope that you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly. You put yourselves and others in great danger," Glynda said, admonishing the pair.

"They started it!" Ruby protested.

"Ruby's right, we were only acting in self-defense," Travis stated.

"If it were up to me, you'd be sent home…With a pat on the back…And a slap on the wrist." Glynda said, slapping her riding crop for emphasis. "But…There is someone here who would like to meet you two."

Entering the room was a silver-haired middle-aged man with a light complexion and sharp facial features. He wore shaded glass spectacles and a small, purple, cross-shaped pin on the cowl around his neck. His outfit mainly consisted of an unzipped black suit over a dark green, buttoned vest, and green shirt. He also wore black trouser shoes and long, dark-green pants. In his hands was a mug of coffee and a plate of cookies.

"Ruby Rose….You have silver eyes." Ozpin said, leaning in to look at Ruby's face. Travis looked at Ozpin quizzically

"What's up with this guy?"

Turning to Travis, Ozpin took a moment to examine him as well. Travis responded by raising an eyebrow. Seemingly satisfied, Ozpin dropped the plate of cookies on the table where Ruby wasted no time in devouring them. Sipping into his cup, Ozpin then perked up.

"So! Where did you learn to do this?" he asked Travis and Ruby gesturing to his tablet which displayed their fight with Roman's group and the mysterious woman.

"S-Signal Academy." Ruby said nervously.

"And you young man?" Ozpin asked Travis.

"So you were watching us?" Travis asked, ignoring Ozpin's question.

"I won't say that I was monitoring your fight because it took place in front of a street camera." Ozpin clarified.

"Anyways if you really want to know I was homeschooled," Travis said.

"I see."

Unbeknownst to the Headmaster, Travis had lied.

"So what does the Headmaster of Beacon Academy want with two teens?" Travis asked.

"I must admit that I'm curious as to what I've seen from you. I can't deny talent when I see it." Ozpin said.

"If you say so," Travis replied.

"Do you want to be a huntress?" Ozpin asked Ruby.

"Um…Yeah." Ruby replied sheepishly.

"So I noticed." Ozpin said "It's just that I've only seen one other scythe-wielder of that skill before. A dusty, old crow…"

"Oh, that's my Uncle!" Ruby said excitedly. "He's a teacher at Signal."

"I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all like— Hoowah! Witchaaaa!" Ruby said, making karate gestures, which elected a chuckle from Travis.

"You want to slay monsters?" Ozpin asked Ruby.

"Yeah! I only have two more years of training left at Signal! And then I'm going to apply to Beacon! You see, my sister's starting there this year, and she's trying to become a Huntress, and I'm trying to become a Huntress 'cause I wanna help people. My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought, `Hey, I might as well make a career out of it! I mean the police are alright, but Huntsmen and Huntresses are just so much more romantic and exciting and cool and really, gosh, you know!" Ruby rambled endlessly in excitement.

"Hold your horses, Red." Travis said jokingly.

Ozpin and Glynda studied Ruby before glancing at each other. A gesture that Travis noticed and he had a gut feeling what Ozpin would ask.

"Ms. Rose, do you know who I am?" Ozpin said.

"You're Professor Ozpin. You're the headmaster at Beacon," Ruby responded.

"Would you like to come to my school?" Ozpin offered.

"More than anything," Ruby said.

"Well okay," Ozpin said plainly before taking another sip of his drink.

Ruby stood there wide-eyed and open-mouthed for a moment before grinning from ear to ear.

"And you Mr. Castor, you seem like you're the right age to enroll in a huntsman academy," Ozpin said. "Would you like to join Beacon as well?"

Travis folded his arms and his eyes became shadowed before he replied a few moments after.

"Sure I accept but on one condition."

"What is this condition I may ask?" Ozpin said.

"That I bring my friends along with me," Travis stated.

Ozpin and Glynda glanced at each other before Ozpin spoke.

"I don't see why not, welcome aboard Travis Castor."

"Perfect. Phase One is complete." Travis thought "It's time for Team Infinity to save this world from its fate."
