"So basically, you're saying that the Mayor is too busy to meet with us himself?" Blossom raised an eyebrow at the well dressed brunette man seated across the desk from her, Bubbles and Buttercup. Buttercup folded her arms with a huff and bubbles twirled a strand of her blonde hair.
"He is a busy man after all. He doesn't really have extra time to spend on..." The mayor's assistant gestured at the girls, "...These sorts of things."
Blossom was beginning to lose her patience… Definitely not off to a good start. "He's the one who sent the letter, requesting that we come." Blossom stated, coolly.
"Yes, well.. Either way, I've been tasked with today's meeting. So let's get started, shall we?"
The girls exchanged quick glances and Blossom nodded. "Yes, Mr..?" She asked, finding it extremely rude that he hadn't started with his name in the first place. What kind of professional business man didn't start with introductions?
"Knapps."
"Okay, Mr. Knapps, to what do we owe this pleasure?" She put on the most polite smile she could manage.
He cleared his throat and clasped his hands over the top of his desk. "As I'm sure you three remember.. We have a strict law against the use of superpowers here in Citiesville. Under no circumstance, is that to be broken." He gave the girls a stern look. "During your stay here you will be expected to comply with our rules. That means no apprehending criminals, our police force is very capable of handling these things."
Yeah, that's why Citiesville has the highest crime rate in the tri-state area. Even higher than Viletown. She thought, trying hard to contain the eye roll that was threatening to escape her.
"No powers, no fighting crime, no destruction of property." He practically spat the last part, a flash of vexation in his lifeless eyes.
"The people in this city sure do know how to hold a grudge." Buttercup said irritatedly, under her breath.
"Yes sir, we understand completely, is there anything else?" Blossom directed her attention from Buttercup back to him.
"Ah, yes." He said, opening the top drawer of his desk. "The city has very generously provided you each with a bus pass to use at your convenience."
You mean to make sure we don't have any excuse to fly. She felt the eye roll leave her that time and quickly tried to play it off like she had something in her eye.
He slid three bus passes across the wooden top of his desk and strained to force a half smile at them, before getting to his feet.
"Thank you." Blossom replied, taking the passes. She and the other girls also stood now and followed him to the door of his office.
"We'll get in touch if need be. Thank you for your time." He concluded the meeting, opening the door to let them out, before shutting himself back in the room.
Walking down the front steps of the City Hall, Blossom handed each of her sisters a bus pass. "Well girls, we certainly aren't in Townsville anymore."
The air was stiff and full of pollution from the many factories. There was an overcast of gloom and doom above the whole disgusting city. How were they ever going to make it through an entire semester of school living in a place like this? Yes they had stayed there for a short time before, but their time had been very short and very unpleasant. That's when they were kids, now they were nearly adults. Blossom sighed, in complete disbelief, Not only was she missing a chunk of her Junior year of highschool.. But she also had to live in this hell hole? Seriously it was as if HIM himself has created this place just to torture the three of them.
"Oh my gosh, did you just see that?!" Bubbles gripped onto Blossom's arm and nodded across the street. Blossom snapped out of her discontented daze and whipped her head in the direction that Bubbles and Buttercup were staring.
"There is literally a drug deal happening right in the middle of broad daylight and there's not a cop in sight." Buttercup threw up her hands, already defeated. "Citiesville fucking sucks."
"This whole situation sucks." Blossom added. "It's going to be a complete nightmare." Both of her sisters laughed, it was definitely out of character for Blossom to be anything but optimistic in any given circumstance. "Either way we really need to get through it this time, and not return to Townsville with our… Powers between our legs?" She tried.
Buttercup almost choked. "Well you know what they say.. Pussy power. Right?" She burst out into a violent laughter, eliciting some rude glances from nearby citizens.
"Buttercup! Eww. That is so not what I meant." Blossom glared. "Just- Nevermind. The point is, we need to do this for The Professor, it's a lot more important than the last time. And we're older now, we will get through this. I promise."
This time around, the Utonium family was staying in a much nicer apartment building. Gone were the roaches and decay. Instead the building was one of the only nice places they'd seen during their time so far. It wasn't surrounded by litter and covered in graffiti like most of the others. If you looked at the apartment alone, and didn't catch anything else whatsoever in your peripherals, it almost looked like you were far far away.. in a different, better city. Literally anywhere else.
The girls had already unpacked their things. Since they were only going to be staying for a few months, they brought as little as possible to get them through their misery. Mostly clothes and some things to kill time. Blossom had opted out of bringing books, since there's no way she could bring enough, there just wasn't enough room. Instead, The Professor had bought her a Kindle and promised to buy her one book a week. Buttercup brought her skateboard, and that's basically it for things to do. She insisted that she'd be spending most of her free time out of the house. And Bubbles brought plenty of art supplies and makeup to pass the time.
"Okay girls, tomorrow's our first day at Citiesville High." Blossom tried to hide her disdain to calm her worried sister's face. Buttercup wasn't scared of anything, especially not highschool, Bubbles on the other hand, was a nervous wreck. Her anxiety was through the roof, having to start a horrible new school in the middle of the year. While Blossom did feel slightly nervous, she was mostly just worried that this school wouldn't be able to challenge her mind in any way.
"Yeah." Buttercup yawned. "I'm fucking beat."
"This city certainly does have a way of draining the life out of its residents.." Bubbles added.
Blossom went to check her hotline watch for the time and then sighed in disappointment when she remembered that she didn't currently have it. So she slid her phone out of her pocket, 10:36pm. Better get some sleep, tomorrow was gonna be a long day.
The following morning the girls went to school a little early, in order to meet with Principal Walters and receive their schedules, as well as a tour of the school.
Blossom was in all AP classes as well as an independent study period, as was to be expected. Buttercup and Bubbles were basically in the same classes that they would've been taking in Townsville, so at least that would be familiar.
"This is Daisy Athart." Mrs. Walters told them. "She'll show you around quickly, answer any questions and then I believe she has first period with you Blossom."
The petite blonde smiled and waved. Her short bob suited her perfectly. She was pretty and seemed genuinely happy, unlike nearly everyone else they'd met thus far.
"Nice to meet you Daisy, I'm Blossom." The two girls shook hands and then the girls followed her out of the office and down the hall.
Basically she showed them how the classroom numbers worked, took them to their lockers and then showed them the cafeteria and gym. Then the tour was over, because class was about to start. Bubbles and Buttercup parted, heading to their separate classes and Blossom walked with Daisy to AP Calculus.
"So, what brings you to CVH?"
"Oh The Prof- My dad just got transferred here for work. It'll only be one semester though." She smiled.
Daisy nodded her head, "This place is a shit hole. Sorry you have to spend your time here." She laughed. "I can't wait to get out of here."
Blossom glanced at her curiously. "Oh?"
"Yeah, that's why I'm taking so many APs.. I really want a scholarship, hopefully to NYU." Daisy looked down, happily embarrassed
"Nice choice! That's one of my top picks as well." Blossom replied, "Hopefully we'll have some other classes together. I have all APs too."
"So, sorry to be so nosy, but.. do you have a boyfriend? Or a girlfriend!" The blonde asked.
Blossom let out a light laugh, "No, I'm single. Why do you ask?"
"Just, you're really pretty and I wanted to warn you.. The guys around here can be really…. Inappropriate, when it comes to pretty girls." She gave a sympathetic smile, "With you being a new student too.. I just- Try to be careful."
Blossom bit her lip, "Thank you for letting me know. You really seem like a nice person. It's a welcome change.. from everyone else I've met."
Blossom really thought that her and Daisy could become good friends, and suddenly she was more hopeful about her stay. When the first bell rang, they picked up the pace, so they wouldn't be late.
"Ugh, finally it's lunch time! They better have some decent grub around here." Buttercup growled, getting in line. Blossom, and Daisy were right behind her and Bubbles had very quickly made a new friend that she was sitting with.
"The nachos are always a safe choice." Daisy pointed at a student cafeteria worker. "You see that guy with the glasses?" Buttercup nodded. "If you smile at him he'll give you extra. Like way extra."
Buttercup laughed. "Okay Daisy, I see you."
The three of them took a seat at Daisy's usual table, Buttercup with her heaping tray of nachos. There were two boys and a girl already seated.
One of the boys, his name was Paul, couldn't seem to tear his eyes off of Blossom.
"This is Blossom and Buttercup." Daisy announced to her friends, "It's their first day. And Paul… try not to stare." She joked, causing him to blush.
Another guy approached the table, eyeing them curiously, and gestured to the empty chair next to Buttercup. "Hey, mind if I sit? Sup Daze."
"Knock yourself out." She said, through a mouthful of nachos. He took the seat, setting his tray down and then looked from his own tray to Buttercup's, confused. "How the fuck did you manage that new girl?"
She smirked. "It's Buttercup." She ate another chip. "I smiled at the kid."
"Must be fucking nice having tits." He laughed.
"Yeah it is. Maybe you should get some." She replied.
"Eh, I quite like being a guy. Besides, I'd like to be able to keep playing sports." He chuckled.
Buttercup stopped eating now and glared at him. "What's that supposed to mean?"
He was a little taken aback by her sudden mood change. "Uh.. I mean, no offense-"
"I don't get offended." She said flatly. "What's your sport?"
"Football."
"Football huh?" A devious grin spread over her face. "And what's your name?"
"Zion."
"Well Zion, I bet you $20 I could kick your ass in a game of football."
Zion scrunched his eyebrows, staring at Buttercup to see if she was serious. Blossom just laughed and shook her head. "One v one or teams?"
"Either." Buttercup said through gulps of her chocolate milk. "But I don't know anyone yet, if you have enough people for two small teams then that's perfect."
"Well I am on the football team." He laughed in disbelief. "You really wanna do this."
"Absolutely."
So have you met 'the boys' yet? Daisy asked the three puffs, heading back from lunch.
"The boys?" Bubbles asked. "There are lots of boys." She giggled.
"I'll take that as a no then." Daisy said, smirking.
Blossom and Buttercup exchanged a glance that Daisy caught.
"They basically own this school. Well not basically, they do.. own the school." She explained. "You'll know them when you see them, I promise. They're unmistakable."
Blossom got to her next class just before the bell rang, having gotten a little turned around on her way. She went straight to the teacher's desk, ignoring all the curious eyes on her.
"Hi Mr. Keller, I'm Blossom Utonium. It's my first day."
He gave her a small smile and pointed to an empty table in the back of the class. "That's the only free seat available. So it's yours."
She nodded and walked back to the table. Which seat? There are two. Oh well, guess it probably doesn't matter.
She sat at the one on the left. Mr. Keller was giving a weekly overview. Blossom sat her bag on the ground beside her, bending over in her chair, to rummage through her things and find her notebook.
"You're in my seat." A male voice said, only a couple inches from her ear. "But with an ass like that… I can't be too mad." He smirked, backing away from her and taking the empty spot next to her.
Having located her supplies, she sat up with a scoff, and whipped around to face him. Who does this guy think he is. When she saw his face, her blood ran cold, all but draining from her body.
"Brick?"
