The next morning when I wake up I find a box with my kefta. I put it on over my light shirt and leggings. Then there's a knock at my door.

"Come in!"

"Oh! Alina, you look stunning!"

"Thanks, Genya. I'm surprised that they made it this quick."

"Well, with David working on it, it gets done quickly. Now head to breakfast then we'll go on a tour of the grounds."

"Okay. Could I meet David?"

"Yeah."

When we get to the dining hall, Genya stops and I turn around. "Aren't you going to eat with us?"

"No, us servants eat in the Palace," Genya said with what I detected as sadness in her voice.

"Come on. You're eating with me from now on," I say pulling her arm.

"But what if the Queen needs me?"

"Then you can go, otherwise you're eating with me," I say as I pull her into the dining hall. "I just realized, I don't know where to sit."

"You'll sit with the Etherealki."

"Okay, come on then."

I pull up two seats to the table where the Etherealki are.

"You're wearing the Darkling's color," a girl with blond hair says next to me.

"It looks so good on you," another girl with brown hair says adding, "Those accents match perfectly the way they change in the light."

"Thanks."

"I'm Nadia," the blond girl says.

"And I'm Marie," adds the brunette.

"Nice to meet you I'm Alina."

"What is she doing here?" Nadia asks rudely.

"She's eating with me. What's the big deal?"

"Oh, nothing, just that she's a servant."

"Um, rude. She's my friend."

We stop talking and eat breakfast. I avoid the anchovies and eat the bread. After we eat, Genya takes me on a tour of the Little Palace showing me where the Etherealki and Corporalki practice.

As we walk down a hall to a giant workshop Genya explains, "This is where the Fabricators work. David will be here, just he doesn't like to talk and he focuses on the tasks that he has."

"I can't wait to meet him! You seem to know a lot about him."

As we walk into the workshop there is a brown-haired young man in a purple kefta working diligently. As we walk over to him Genya tells me, "That's David."

"Hi, David. Thank you for making my kefta so quickly." He doesn't respond. "You made it perfect."

"Mhm. Can you leave now?"

"Oh, um."

"Come on Alina, let him work," Genya says, pulling me along. "Bye David."

"Mhm."

"We need to head back to the Summoners' Pavilion so you can meet Baghra."
