Perfect
Chapter Fourteen
We were back on Naboo, only this time in the university's cathedral. The only other choice as accommodating would be the throne room in the palace. Even though it had been offered, we didn't wish to inconvenience the Queen and opted for the university. The Basilica would hold up to five-hundred guests, and I had no doubt we may have that many in attendance. Obi-Wan was a popular Jedi amongst his peers, and I…well, I was once Queen.
My family, as proud as they were of my accomplishment of actually finding someone to put up with me, were working diligently in preparation for the event. And this time, I had made preparations myself. I had purchased a wedding gown, and Obi-Wan had a groomsman as well as a real ring, he'd informed me. Anakin was proud to be involved and had even begun asking me the names of some of the Queen's handmaidens. I was pleased he was moving on, but I was also allowing myself to be a little selfish. It was my wedding day after all, and I had to be the happiest woman in the galaxy!
At first, I had worried Obi-Wan's memories would be slow to return, as well as his feelings for me. However, once the Jedi Healer had opened those blocked recollections, it all came flooding back. He had informed me he was overwhelmed with it all, but to make amends for his lack of attention to me for the past ten years, he proposed all over again, and he promised I'd have a wedding nobody would ever forget.
This time, he'd arranged for all the Jedi he knew to form the question: 'Will you marry me?' on the street outside of my apartment using their lightsabers. Of course, I said yes, and everything was a bustle of activity after that.
Sometimes, in the evenings when he was off duty, we would sit together on my veranda in the same lounging chair and watch the traffic whiz by. We didn't need to say a word. The joy of being together and holding each other was enough and we treasured every second of it, knowing we would soon be parted.
In fact, two days before the wedding, the Council had called him and Anakin off on another mission. I swallowed my pride and prepared to inform my family the wedding would have to be delayed, but Obi-Wan assured me he would make it to Naboo in time, even if he had to abort his mission early to do so. He wouldn't disappoint me again, he promised.
A tiny voice in the back of my mind began to cast doubt, but I refused to listen to it. He'd be there.
Two days later, as the Cathedral bells heralded the beginning of our wedding ceremony and he was nowhere to be seen, I was still sure he would come and I reminded my friends and family of that. Despite their uncertainty, I was confident.
I took that confidence to the steps in front of the building and waited. From a distance, I saw him running from the direction of the spaceport. Anakin was beside him, attempting to help him change his clothing as they moved. It was a somewhat humorous spectacle, and he didn't manage to complete dressing until ascended the stairs and met me at the top.
"We made it!" he announced, slightly out of breath.
"Perfect timing," I told him, kissing him quickly.
"You look absolutely stunning," he commented, stepping back to glance up and down as I spun around to show him the entire ensemble.
"You see?" Anakin announced while adjusting his own formal cloak. "This is what all women want. A big fancy wedding with a big fancy dress."
I gazed at Obi-Wan to silently declare I didn't agree with that statement. What I wanted was standing in front of me. The celebration only gave me the opportunity to announce to the galaxy how much I loved this man.
He smiled in understanding and wrapped his around my waist. "Let's get this party started."
I was never one who enjoyed social situations such as this. We rarely had them in the Temple. Oh, sometimes there would be an occasional naming day celebration – such as when Master Yoda turned eight-hundred, but that was nothing compared to this. I'd never seen so many beings all gathered together in one place. Well, at least not for a happy occasion such as this.
I was self-conscious as I stood by my Master in front of everyone and kept tugging on my cloak. It was new and it was itching my neck. The actual ceremony didn't last that long, however, and soon I was able to abandon that part of my formal uniform as we headed out into the university gardens for food and dancing.
These Naboo sure know how to put on a good spread. There was enough food here to feed a planet twice this size! I took the tour, trying to decide what morsels looked the tastiest, but had taken so much time doing so, the orchestra began playing by the time I found a seat.
The married couple was announced and then took their place out on the dance floor, where they began to sway slowly together. They danced as if they were the only two people on the planet; their gazes locked. I had never seen any two people so much in love and I forced the lump forming in my throat down with a gulp of muja juice.
"Theysa an attractive pair. That's what meesa thinks."
My childhood friend, Jar-Jar, had sat down next to me. He was going to most likely interrupt the peace of my meal, but at this particular moment, I didn't care. If my Master was happy, I was happy. And I was eating free food. That always made me happy!
"I think you're right," I told him between bites of roasted nerf as I gazed at the recently remarried couple. They had begun to spin around the floor as if they weren't held down by gravity like the rest of us. "Although I'd venture to say they're more than just attractive - they're perfect together. Hey, are you going to eat that?"

A/N: Thank you for the feedback! I really enjoyed writing this story. The next one in my head is a comedy, which will most likely involve a favorite character of mine. (other than Obi-Wan and Padme, of course!) Hope to see you there!
And just for fun, FYI - each chapter in this story includes use of the word "perfect." I did that on purpose! Check it out if you don't believe me! :)
