In which only Percy would sass one of the most evil powerful beings in the universe.
Replies:
Rage2091: Percy's used it once so far, and she could only do that because she was possessed.
Thickneck: I'm honestly not sure, it's something that the books never go into.
Ryan Fowler: Damn right she is.
Guest: Her eyes are still exactly the same- but again, because of how the hair frames the face and such you're not as likely to notice the resemblance- Percy in canon is basically a mini Poseidon, which people notice pretty fast, people would have to look closer at this Percy to realise. And yeah, Percy's able to speak pretty much all languages- just imagine someone trying to pretend they can't talk to her because they only speak a certain language and she's like 'bitch please'.
PJ Fan 285: I'm glad that you're enjoying it!
Percy was stunned by the realisation- and horrified too. Because Apophis had destroyed the scroll and she hadn't exactly had much time to figure it out. She clung to Carter as the others gathered around, pressing in close, and Carter shifted, one arm wrapped tightly around her, the other clutching his sword tightly.
Khufu had his fangs bared at the criosphinxes. Alyssa had wrapped her arms around Felix, who was sobbing into her sleeve. He had quickly lost his courage when his penguins were taken away.
And Sadie was almost snarling, Walt gripping her arm, holding her back as she screamed, "So that's it? Burn up the scroll and run away as usual? Are you so afraid to show yourself in person? Is Percy right you coward! Are you scared of her?"
More laughter rolled through the room. The criosphinxes stood unmoving in the doorway, but figurines and jewelry rattled in the display cases. With a painful creaking sound, the golden baboon statue that Khufu had been chatting up suddenly turned its head.
"But I am everywhere." The serpent spoke through the statue's mouth. "I can destroy anything you value…and anyone you value."
Khufu wailed in outrage. He launched himself at the baboon and knocked it over. It melted into a steaming pool of gold.
A different statue came to life—a gilded wooden pharaoh with a hunting spear. Its eyes turned the color of blood. Its carved mouth twisted into a smile. "Your magic is weak, Sadie Kane. Human civilization has grown as old and rotten. I will swallow the sun god and plunge your world into darkness. The Sea of Chaos will consume you all. And even the halfling cannot and will not stop me! You will join me or die."
"Do you have to call me that!" Percy let out an exasperated noise. "And I will never join you."
As if the energy were too much for it to contain, the pharaoh statue burst. Its pedestal disintegrated, and another line of evil jackhammer magic snaked across the room, churning up the floor tiles. It headed for a display against the east wall—a small golden cabinet.
And that- that was odd, Apophis never did anything random.
And somehow Sadie seemed to know too. "The box!" Sadie yelped the words, "Stop him!"
And Percy tried to dart forward, but Carter's grip on her tightened. "Percy don't be stupid!"
"He's gonna destroy it!"
From somewhere outside, another explosion shook the building. Chunks of plaster rained from the ceiling.
"Are these children the best you could send against me?" Apophis spoke from an ivory shabti in the nearest case—a miniature sailor on a toy boat. "Walt Stone…you are the luckiest. Even if you survive tonight, your sickness will kill you before my great victory. You won't have to watch your world destroyed."
Walt staggered at those words, and Sadie had to steady him.
The line of destruction trundled across the floor, still heading for the golden cabinet. Alyssa thrust out her staff and barked a command.
For a moment, the floor stabilized, smoothing into a solid sheet of gray stone. Then new cracks appeared, and the force of Chaos blasted its way through.
"Brave Alyssa," the serpent said, "the earth you love will dissolve into Chaos. You will have no place to stand!"
Alyssa's staff burst into flames. She screamed and threw it aside.
"Stop it!" Felix yelled. He smashed the glass case with his staff and demolished the miniature sailor along with a dozen other shabti.
Apophis's voice simply moved to a jade amulet of Isis on a nearby manikin. "Ah, little Felix, I find you amusing. Perhaps I'll keep you as a pet, like those ridiculous birds you love. I wonder how long you'll last before your sanity crumbles."
Felix threw his wand and knocked over the manikin.
The crumbling trail of Chaos was now halfway to the golden cabinet.
"He's after that box!" Sadie managed to say. "Save the box!"
And Percy felt Carter's grip on her loosening- they moved at the same time, Percy sprinting towards the box as Carter jumped in front of the advancing chaos, stabbing his sword into the floor. His blade cut through the marble tile like ice cream. A blue line of magic extended to either side—Carter's own version of a force field. The line of disruption slammed against the barrier and stalled.
"Poor Carter Kane." The serpent's voice was all around them now—jumping from artifact to artifact, each one bursting from the power of Chaos. "Your leadership is doomed. Everything you tried to build will crumble. You will lose the ones you love the most. You cannot protect them, you failed once before."
"Shut up." Percy managed to wrap her arms around the golden cabinet. "Shut up you stupid stinking snake!"
"Percy don't be stupid! Stop-"
"No! No I won't stop." Percy yelled the words- Carter's blue defensive line was beginning to flicker. "You want me so
much then come and get me!" she tossed the cabinet towards Khufu as she darted out from behind the shielding spell, and she saw Khufu catching it, and she ignored Carter's frustrated yell- but holding off Apophis had tired him, his legs almost gave out beneath him.
"You have nerve Persephone Kane. My patience with you wears thin girl- my offer will only last for so long. What do you imagine will happen to you and your loved ones- your brother and sister- your dear mother and the unborn babes still growing inside of her. What happens to them when I lose my patience with you-"
"And I'll make you a counter offer." Percy declared, dancing around to avoid the cracks that raced after her wherever she went, "You fuck back off into the Duat and we won't completely destroy you. Who knows, maybe in a few hundred years once we're all dead and gone you can rise again."
"You wouldn't know where to start." Apophis hissed, "You make empty threats little girl. You forced me out through luck, not through skill." his voice was mocking, "You are weak, you are nothing, you're not even a true Kane-" and that made Percy angry, she let out a snarl, landing almost delicately, gripping her staff tightly before slamming the base of it into the ground, "Heh-sieh!" and the cracks stopped, doubling back on themselves- and oh, oh but there was one good thing about the snake making cracks in the ground- it meant a much easier path for the water in the pipes beneath their feet.
There was a groaning creaking noise from the pipes-and she managed to catch her brothers eye, and Carter staggered to his feet, nodding, "Everyone get to the door!"
"What-" Sadie's voice was startled, "Oh shit!" there was a look of realisation on her face, "Oh crap!"
And the cracks were snaking back towards Percy's feet again- the spell had only worked for a few seconds but it had brought her a few precious moments.
But she needed to keep Apophis' focus on her, to give the others a chance to escape as they all rushed towards the doors- and she could see Carter desperately trying to barge it open.
"Hey, hey Apophis what do you get if you mix an evil snake with a Demigod?"
"What-"
"Snake-kebab- heh, d'ya get it? Cause I'm gonna chop you up into little pieces and skewer you-" the others had all reached the door, that was good- and Percy could feel the water rushing through the pipes directly beneath Percy's feet.
Also good.
"I will rend the flesh from your bones!"
"And uh- do you know what you get when you mix a water elementalists with cracks in the floor?"
"What-"
"Easy access!" And Percy watched Carter and Sadie drag the others aside as the creaking turned into the noise of the pipes bursting and shattering, loud explosive and violent, and the water burst out with so much force that if it was anyone else above them it would have undoubtedly killed them, and Percy twirled her staff, thrusting the tip towards the door- and a fist of water surged out from the rest, smashing into the door, shattering it into a thousand pieces, and Sadie and Carter were dragging the others into the water, letting it sweep them out into the hall.
And Percy revelled in the warmth and strength that flooded through her as the water swirled around her ankles. It felt wonderful, and Percy raised her staff. "C'mon snaky boy! Let's dance!" as she spoke two ram-headed sphinxes stirred, their mouths glowing with flames as they lunged at Percy, who twirled her staff, a wall of water erupting from the water by her feet, the sphinxes smashed into the wall of water, almost bouncing backwards and landing with splashes- and Percy swirled her staff again, streams of it almost following the motions of the staff, smashing into the sphinxes.
The problem was that tendrils of red lightning were arching between the exhibits. The floor was crumbling- though that wasn't a problem for Percy who was stood on the top of the water now- the walls were cracking too, artefacts were coming to life, and the only thing that stopped them from chasing after the others was the wall of water Percy summoned up to block the doorway.
Percy felt unsteady- her head was spinning, and she felt sick. She could feel the power of chaos pressing in all around her, a power she knew so intimately because he'd been inside of her, she was probably the only mortal being who had ever used Apophis' power.
Not just alive but in history, oh chaos magic had been used before, but never the power of the Lord of Chaos himself.
She had, she knew it horribly well.
And it was bearing down, shaking the very world around them.
The mere presence of Apophis was shaking apart the whole damn building-it would destroy it-and probably much of the surrounding area too. Shit it was bad- there was nothing Percy could do to stop it, it was taking all of her power, of her focus to keep as much of the chaos contained in the room they were in, to keep Apophis' focus on her.
She felt like her skin was being torn apart from the closeness to him. She wasn't sure how long she'd be able to last- and it wouldn't be long before the museum collapsed on top of them- and she knew the others wouldn't leave the museum without her.
And because he was focusing on her, because she was actually not doing a bad job of keeping the powers of Chaos contained in the room, it meant that it was falling apart faster- and she dodged sideways, a frantic look on her face as chunks of the ceiling starting falling down- a lump of masonry hit her shoulder and Percy forced back a pained noise, her eyes flashing with annoyance, even as the water healed the injury.
"Your death will not be so easy!" and then red lightning arched towards her- and Percy screamed in pain as she was thrown off her feet, back hitting the display cabinet that had held the scroll they'd need here for, shards of glass biting into her skin.
And it seemed that Apophis was directing all of his attention to her, "The only way to stop your torment is to agree to become my eye!" and then it happened again, except it wasn't just one bolt of the red chaos lightning, it was dozens, all over- and Percy screamed- she'd never felt so much pain before it was agonizing- and she was screaming, it felt like every fibre of her being was being torn apart into thousands of shreds.
Gods but what had she done to deserve this? She was screaming she was sure of it.
And then from the doorway- Percy could see a glowing golden light. Percy had to squint- it was like sunlight except even brighter- and Percy knew what it was instinctively, felt Apophis' fury.
Sadie had summoned the power of Ma'at. Of order itself.
Percy hadn't even known it was possible for someone to summon it on such a level- and she sensed Apophis' retreat.
Percy let go over her control over the water around her as she saw the light healing the cracks in the ground and the walls- and she saw Sadie stood in the doorway- and that was about the last thing she did see before her legs gave out and she collapsed completely.
