In which we get some Sadie.

Rage2091: You have so little faith in Percy! Apophis wouldn't try to possess her in the heat of battle. No he'd wait until after when her spirit shatters and she can't try and force him out.
Thickneck: Most of them would be offended, some would be amused.
Ryan Fowler: Zeus definitely will not be amused, and it will be so so much fun.
Guest: You'll have to wait and see- but unless they actually come face to face the Greek gods aren't really going to notice her, and if they do meet her they'd probably be somewhat confused because she doesn't fully feel like a demigod.
Undeath9087: I mean, Apophis is basically just shrugging off the bulk of the attacks without breaking a sweat at this stage, he's not getting hurt really just inconvenienced. And the camper she meets is definitely there over the Winter breaks.
Drizzle: I hope you enjoy!
Guest: You shall see, but what I will say is 'Fan behavior'. Which gives you like, nothing to work with.
Walter Ha: Are you kidding. Apophis isn't stupid enough for that lol. Last time he possessed her she forced him out, he's gonna want to be sure he can control her before he does.
Noir Nyan: Thank you that's really sweet. And I have spent a lot of time considering her and Poseidon's future relationship so I hope I don't disappoint lol.
Guest: She's healed as best as she can be. Physically she's basically fine other than white hair and the scar.
Guest: He's insanely strong and durable, his gaze can paralyse you I believe, he radiates chaos and can make reality splinter. Which is a lot.

Sadie wasn't happy about- well about any of this.

First she'd lost Walt- and she was still trying to process all of that- who was he now? Which one of the boys she liked was he? What was she supposed to call him? Walt? Anubis? It was a confusing and complicated situation and Sadie hated confusing and complicated- she wished Sally was there to talk to her and help her figure stuff out- but Sally was-hopefully, tucked away somewhere safe or on the other side of the planet- for preference anyway- and gods but the idea of their heavily pregnant mum being in danger was better not to even consider.

And then when she'd arrived to rescue her stupid brother, her awesome baby sister and her friend she'd been told that Percy had taken a dive into the Sea of Chaos- which had been like a kick in the teeth when she'd already had her teeth kicked in.

And then Percy had been fine- if a little pale and shaky, Bes had showed up- which did make Sadie happy, and Zia had become the eye of Ra who had been reborn- yay! All good stuff.

And then Ra just had to go and ask Percy to fight with him didn't he? That she very much wasn't happy about- and she knew Carter wasn't either. Their ten year old sister should be sticking with them for gods sake not rushing off to fight off Apophis was four gods.

But it had been very easy to see that Percy was not going to agree to stay by their sides for the battle so they'd let her stay with him as they rushed off to help defend the First Nome, and it had become very serious very quickly.

Sadie had been very upset to see their old friend Leonid looking like he was five seconds away from bleeding out.
Still, she was merged with Isis so that had at least helped as they'd descended into the madness of the battle, where they'd discovered that their uncle had been separated from his back up- their young initiates- who were fighting fiercely against the rebels to try and get to him to support him. And really, Sadie did love those guys.

And so she and Carter had plunged into the fray, fighting against the rebels with all of their strength- though Sadie had to reign Isis in- she didn't want to burn up like she almost had in Dallas, no thank you.

And uh- If Carter ever asked she would be forced to lie to him because she had to admit, he was impressive as they fought- he wielded the flail and the crook as if he'd trained with them his entire life- and their friends did amazing too- Sadie found herself feeling incredibly proud whenever she'd see one of their students kicking enemy backside- and she almost laughed despite the situation when she'd seen Shelby- who had scattered her crayons down the hallway to trip the enemy and was running through the hall, wielding her wand like a tennis racket, running between the legs of adult magicians, swatting them on the bottom and yelling, "Die, die, die!"

And yeah, Sadie wished Percy was there to see that- she was pretty sure her baby sister would implode from sheer joy and adopt the girl on the spot.

There were some residents of the First Nome still there helping- but many of them had probably fled long ago- Said was relieved to hear the familiar voice of Desjardins from the front of the group trying to get to Amos- though he was no longer the powerful magician he had once been- oh he wasn't weak, but he was nowhere near the man he had once been.

And Sadie's heart had nearly pounded out of her chest when she'd seen who was fighting alongside the ex-Chief Lector.

It was Walt- and okay she was willing to admit that he was insanely impressive- watching him fight, and he looked like normal old Walt- though his clothes had changed and he was wearing Anubis' outfit- it had been an awkward moment when he'd noticed her but Sadie had forced herself to ignore that- it really wasn't the time to deal with her emotions regarding the boys she cared about.

And then it had just gotten worse because when Walt had managed to bust them into the room Sadie had seen Amos fighting off the rebels- with the back up of Set. And the sight of Amos cloaked in Set's avatar had made Sadie's breath catch- but he was actually doing it- reigning in the god. But even so Amos had been tiring- and infuriatingly enough Isis hadn't wanted to help him- and neither had Horus- which had made their harmony with the gods slip- and it was difficult, working with a god when you weren't in harmony.

And it would have gone very, very badly if it wasn't for Walt and Anubis- who had stepped forward as one and defended her- and Sadie would forever deny the fact that she felt like butterflies had filled her belly at that- at the sight of him stood in front of her, when she'd feared that everything they'd been working for was lost- when Amos was bound in magical ropes, when her and Carter were weak and defenceless, and he'd caught the knife that would have killed her and he'd spoke so bravely that Sadie had almost melted.

"I am Walt Stone. Blood of the Pharaohs. And Anubis, god of the dead. We speak with one voice, especially on this
matter. No one harms Sadie Kane." and yeah, yeah Sadie would probably never forget that moment, especially when he thrust out his hand and the floor split open at Sarah Jacobi's feet, and souls of the dead sprang up like weeds—skeletal hands, glowing faces, fanged shadows, and winged ba with their claws extended. They swarmed Sarah Jacobi, wrapping her in ghostly linen, and dragged her screaming into the chasm. The floor closed behind her, leaving no trace that she had ever existed.

Of course it hadn't quite been over yet- but Walt had given them the advantage, and Carter had taken the chance to rise. "Magicians! We're wasting time. Apophis is above, about to destroy the world. A few brave gods and my sister are holding him back for our sakes, for the sake of Egypt and the world of mortals, but they can't do it alone. Jacobi and Kwai led you astray. Unbind the Chief Lector. We have to work together."

To which Kwai had snarled, red electricity- similar to the electricity that had hurt Percy in Dallas, arced between his fingers. "Never! We do not bow to gods."

And Sadie felt rather annoyed at that, "Listen to my brother! You don't trust the gods? They are already helping us. Meanwhile, Apophis wants us to fight one another. Why do you think your attack was timed for this morning, at the same moment Apophis is rising? Kwai and Jacobi have sold you out. The enemy is right in front of you!"

Even the rebel magicians now turned to stare at Kwai. The remaining ropes fell away from Amos.

Kwai sneered. "You're too late."

His voice hummed with power. His robes turned from blue to bloodred. His eyes glowed, his pupils turning to reptilian slits. "Even now, my master destroys the old gods, sweeping away the foundations of your world. He will swallow the sun. All of you will die."

And then they'd been in the midst of battle once more- Kwai managed to knock out most of their allies- and his own followers- but those who were channelling the power of a god seemed able to deflect the attack- which meant that Amos, Carter, Walt and Sadie herself were the only ones standing- and this time she managed to work with Isis again- the goddess might not like Set but even she knew now wasn't the time to argue about it.

The problem was that Kwai was channelling the power of Apophis- which meant even the four of them vs him wasn't going to be an easy fight- Sadie had to split her attention between defending their helpless friends and helping fight off the other magician.

It was Walt who managed to take him down, summoning two massive jackals- and Sadie was willing to admit that these ones weren't exactly cute- who had harried Kwai from either side, whilst Walt had fended off Kwai's attacks- and Sadie had watched with wide as as Walt swung his staff almost like a golf club- and Sadie resisted the urge to make a comment- she was sure Percy would have yelled something like 'Hole in one!' despite how serious the situation was but Sadie was able to restrain herself.

In any case he hit Kwai so hard that Sadie could imagine it echoing all the way through the Duat, it wasn't a pleasant noise and the magician fell, the sand creatures he'd summoned to attack them vanished just like that.

Walt called off his jackals. Amos lowered his staff. Carter rose from the rubble, looking dizzy but unharmed. They gathered around the fallen magician.

Kwai should have been dead. A line of blood trickled from his mouth. His eyes were glassy, but as Sadie studied his face- it was strange- watching a man die- but he took a sharp breath and Sadie's eyes widened in shock- because that really shouldn't be possible-and he was laughing weakly.

And none of them had time to react as he spoke, "Idiots-" his voice was raspy, a dying wheeze, "Sahei." A blood red hieroglyph burned against his chest:

His robes erupted in flames. Before their eyes, he dissolved into sand and a wave of cold—the power of Chaos—rippled through the Hall of Ages. Columns shook. Chunks of stone fell from the ceiling. A slab the size of an oven crashed into the steps of the dais, almost crushing the pharaoh's throne.

"Bring down." Sadie translated, all of the color draining from her face as she realised what the hieroglyph meant. As she could feel Isis' terror at the invocation- at the strength of it- and his intentions. "Sahei is Bring down."

Amos swore in Ancient Egyptian—something about donkeys trampling Kwai's ghost. "He used up his life force to cast this curse. The hall is already weakened. We'll have to leave before we're buried alive."

But- Sadie glanced around, her heart sinking. Their friends were knocked out- even if some of them were starting to stir there was no way they could get them all to safety in time. If they ran they would have to abandon some of them. Sadie couldn't do that. She refused.

"We have to stop it." she breathed out, "We have four gods present! Surely that's enough to save the hall." Amos furrowed his brow. "The power of Set will not help me in this. He can only destroy, not restore."

Another column toppled. It broke across the floor, barely missing one of the unconscious rebels.

Walt—who was now clad in Egyptian battle armor which would usually be very distracting for Sadie, shook his head. "This is beyond Anubis. I'm sorry."

Sadie turned her head, looking at Carter- who shook his head. And Sadie understood- he was good at battle magic. Magic like this wasn't his usual talent.

Sadie sighed heavily, pushing down her nerves. "So it comes down to me, as always. Fine. You three shield the others as best you can. If this doesn't work, get out quickly."

"If what doesn't work?" Amos said, as more chunks of ceiling rained down around them. "Sadie, what are you planning?"

"Just a word, dear uncle." she raised her staff and called on the power of Isis.

And credit where it was due, Isis immediately understood what Sadie needed. And Sadie closed her eyes and tried to find the calm in Chaos, trying to focus on the most peaceful well ordered moments of her life.

Her sixth birthday party, listening to music in her room at Brooklyn House- dancing around the room with Percy. She remembered dying their hair together- sitting on the terrace with her friends. She remembered her birthday more recently, the cake Percy had baked- the present her mum had given her. She remembered all of the times with Carter.
And she faced down her own chaos- accepted her jumped emotions about where she belonged- about who she loved.
She stilled herself, calmed her restlessness and let go of her doubts

"Ma'at."

She invoked order.
